Anyone who doesn't see Mario 64 as an open world game that invites exploration hasn't played it properly.

There are hardly any games, what few there are barely use the gamepad in an effective way at all. This console isn't ready yet. I have faith that it will be, I'm enjoying my 3DS now, but that wasn't ready either.

What is happening with Nintendo releasing consoles before they are ready?

Remember the N64? Comes out with Mario 64, straight away a definitive and groundbreaking game that utilizes the new controller well.

I think it would be good to leave most of the clone characters as downloadable content. That way their eventual inclusion (or exclusion if you don't want to get it) wont upset the balance of the game so much.

Has Nintendo ever gone so long without releasing a new epic Mario or Zelda game?

I'd like a Shiek game, that explores what she was doing all that time in Ocarina.

It would be nice if they actually finished making the game this time round.

I'm not an admin, nor do I technically have the information to answer your question, but I'm quite confident that the 3DS version will have online multiplayer.

If it doesn't, there could well be rioting in the streets.

I still think the first entry is the purest version.

If there is to be less characters in these installments (as was vaguely hinted at, but not confirmed) then I hope the roster and gameplay is more balanced, otherwise it'll be the worst of both worlds.

I haven't been disappointed by the series yet though.

Pacman surely has to be there.

I expect we'll see Nabbit as a character in Mario Kart 8.

3D Land was a good fit for a handheld console, but this looks kind of lazy. Why is '3D' even in the title?

Interesting choice of words. I was most impressed with Tropical Freeze, as I feel the characterizations of the enemies are beginning to rival RARE's design, but my favourite game shown by far was Smash Bros, specifically for the 3DS.

Most, if not all the games revealed, could be achieved, or could have been achieved on 3DS, Wii, or even GameCube.

Must say it's looking very enticing, the transparent pipes are a really good idea. How much of this game could have been realised on the 3DS though? Most of it I'd wager (indeed, the '3D' in the title kind of makes it seem odd that it isn't). The same could not have been said of Mario Galaxy and the DS.

I do like the look of this title, but for me to buy a Wii U, Nintendo needed to reveal a big Mario or Zelda game. Wind Waker HD and this, doesn't quite cut it.

Loving Luigi's Mansion, but it's still Kid Icarus for me. One of the finest games of all time.

For me, no console comes close to 3DS at the moment.

Whilst the increase in sales is impressive, it is from a pretty low base.

I also recall that the 3DS and Wii U did not have the best of starts, and that Nintendo did turn things around with the handheld, and would seem to be doing so with the Wii U as well. I think a bit of perspective is needed, as perhaps somewhat paradoxically, the 386% increase in Wii U sales would indicate that there is chance for a new overpriced console such as the Xbox One. I'll be interested to see how things progress; Xbox One surely can't remain at that price for long can it?

Where the heck is Yoshi's Island on VC?

I feel this release is very indicative of Nintendo's problem. In a way, they're almost their own worst enemy. The 3DS can handle really big games, and if you have this on the handheld, then the Wii U release is unlikely to entice you to get the console. Early days, a Zelda or Mario could always be a a game changer, but with even Smash Bros. on the 3DS, I feel Nintendo may be working to the Wii U's detriment (but to my contentment-I'm happy just having a 3DS)

I can't remember a Nintendo console having so few games for so long in it's early life. There are just no games that would make me spend a lot of money on a console.

No, it was Diddy Kong who starred. According to Rare, the current Donkey Kong is Donkey Kong JR, and the older one is Cranky Kong. In any case, DKJR is not the star of DKC2; Diddy Kong isn't even the same species, he has a tail.

Though I'm not especially keen on the new Zelda and Yoshi games (yet at least) there does seem to be a large library of games for the 3DS, with something to please everyone. Early days still, but I can't see a reason to buy a Wii U, rather than get several more 3DS games.

Meh. The 3DS is capable of a lot more than this. We could be playing Mario and Zelda games with huge worlds in 3D (gameplay) to explore. Just seems such a waste to me. It looks pretty. But the dynamics of the game (basically ALthP, going by the screenshots) could have been done on the GBA.

'First Comment' was by far and away the best game on the NES. It really was the beginning of the NES gaming era, and quite a statement of intent by Nintendo.

Nintendo has been making consoles for a while now, you'd think they could design it right the first time.

This interview kind of ignored the fact that the Wii was extremely successful. What is his take on that? Was the Wii's success based on factors that aren't sustainable? During the Wii's lifespan did Nintendo make mistakes that began to be really felt only after the 3DS and Wii U came onto the scene? Is it simply impossible to repeat that kind of success?
