I was ticked off by the Legends delay and I'm still not sure if I'll get it at release (as there's The Wonderful 101, Windwaker HD etc around that time too), but the free Legends challenge mode and release line up have placated me somewhat.

Definitely looking at Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell as Wii U purchases.

CaPPa commented on WWE 2K14 Set To Skip Wii U:

@RoadShow
The Wii U's power has nothing to do with WWE14 not coming to the system, it is purely down to the size of the userbase. Therefore had Nintendo made the Wii U as powerful as the Nextbox/PS4 then it would have been at around a $500 price point, which probably would have resulted in an even smaller userbase.

The Wii U's power has nothing to do with EA's junk not coming to the system either (as they have Frostbite running on iOS/Android now), that is just down to EA being a whiney little $%#!& who were butt hurt because Nintendo wouldn't let them make Origin their online system.

@moroboshi
Next-gen architecture is following the lower clock CPU design, so will that mean that the Nextbox and PS4 will also be inferior to the PS3?

With out of order execution, tessellation etc being standard features of the next-gen hardware then it isn't surprising that current multi-plat games are not yet taking advantage of the possibilities as they've not been designed to do so.

CaPPa commented on Insomniac Not Working On Wii U, Considers It M...:

Oh no, Insomniac won't be bringing their mediocre generic FPS Fuse to the Wii U? This is sure to be a 6/10 caliber game.

With the Wii U missing out on games like this, Aliens CM, Star Trek, etc, it will never gain a reputation as a source of shovelware and will be cursed to only have Nintendo's or other decent developers 9/10 games.

If the sarcasm is a little strong, then to be clear I couldn't care less about Insomniac making games for the Wii U.

I probably wouldn't bother with GTA5 or WWE, but I definitely won't if they are only on 360/PS3. They are both high profile franchises though, so if they do appear it would give the Wii U a boost.

A lot of recent releases that have skipped the Wii U have turned out to be pretty mediocre/bad though (i.e. Aliens CM, Star Trek etc), so I'm starting to think it isn't necessarily a bad thing when hyped up shovelware isn't coming to the Wii U.

CaPPa commented on Developer Interview: Ubisoft on the Expanding ...:

I've lost faith in Legends because of Ubisofts treatment of the title. Before it was said to have gameplay and visuals that were 'only possible on Wii U', so are the simplifying it for 360/PS3 or was that all just a lie? I thought that the extra 30 levels would be to replace the Murphy levels on 360/PS3, so if they are not then I'd like to know how they're getting those to work with regular controllers.

I'll probably still buy Legends on the Wii U (unless it's superior on 360/PS3), but now I'll likely buy it used or when it price drops as there'll be too many other games to buy around September.

I guess I'll just play Magical Quest on the SNES instead if I need a Mickey fix. It's a shame as I never played Castle of Illusion on the Genesis (although I had it on the Gamegear), but I really don't want to buy too many digital downloads on 360/PS3 as they won't carry over to the new Xbox and PS4.

I'm looking at perhaps getting Injustice for the Wii U and Soulhackers for the 3DS but I don't know if I'll go digital or just pick up the retail versions. I still need to play the PS3 demo of Injustice too and will wait for reviews until I fully commit to it.

Definitely will be downloading Kirby even though I already own it twice. 30 cents and offscreen play just can't be passed up.

@Rafie
It's crazy that people will buy an inferior version just for achievements/trophys but it's probably true. The worry is that the Wii U version will end up being dumbed down to accommodate the 360/PS3 versions.

I've certainly cooled on the game. In February it would have been a day one purchase, but come September there'll be too many other games out and I'll just wait for a price drop on Legends, because if I have to wait 7 months anyway I may as well wait a few more.

CaPPa commented on Talking Point: Nintendo Should Make EA Co-oper...:

I hope that Most Wanted U sells well and makes EA take notice that games with some effort put into them will sell on Wii U while lazy ports (FIFA, Madden) won't.

I don't think that Nintendo should roll over for EA though. Just give other devs/publishers a chance, as they'll probably produce something more inventive than EA's efforts (like Konami's PES on the Wii). Then when Wii U games show some strong sales (there is sure to be a boost from big 1st party titles) EA will jump straight back onboard as they'll want to cash in.

Online support for Tri ends this month, so you'll only be playing solo.

Ultimate is also a much bigger game than Tri, with a lot more monsters. The GamePad also makes a difference, especially for equipment and chat. A great game got even better.

CaPPa commented on Talking Point: The Downside to Delayed Release...:

I would have bought Rayman Legends in February but I doubt that I will in September. I'll just pick it up when it drops to $20 or $30 (new or used).

While I've been aware of the game drought, it hasn't really effected me. Over November/December I bought ZombiU, NSMBU, COD Black Ops 2, Mass Effect 3 and Ninja Gaiden 3 (plus the bundled NintendoLand). They've kept me pretty busy (I still need to complete a couple of them) and I just bought Monster Hunter 3, NFS Most Wanted and Lego City too. With Injustice also a possibility this month I should have enough games to last me until The Wonderful 101, Windwaker HD etc hit. So I've had a great gaming experience during the drought, so when we're properly out of it I should have an incredible one.

Won't Miiverse being available on mobile devices open it up to anyone and let an influx of trolls onto the network? Unless there is a system to only allow Wii U owners access then it'll be a horrible move.

Also if it is browser based then wouldn't it be accessible through the 3DS browser too?

CaPPa commented on No Battlefield 4 For Wii U Because DICE Wants ...:

I guess that I won't be buying Battlefield 4 now. It's my standpoint that if a multiplatform game doesn't have a Wii U version then I'll just skip it (unless it's a title I'm desperate for like DOA5 which I bought for PS3).

@AbeVigoda
PS4/720 selling 10 million in 3 months? That's hilarious! Maybe they will be the best selling consoles of all time, but I doubt it. At the moment I have little interest in the PS4, as there are no games that make me feel that I must get one and the graphics aren't even that much of an improvement over PS3 (Killzone looked good but when they actually started playing it wasn't much different at all). I have even less interest in the next Xbox, probably due to the 360 being dead to me now (I don't even have it plugged in anymore). I think that it'll be the same as 360/PS3/Wii U, with big launch sales from the Microsoft/Sony die-hards and then not much else; as the average person is not going to rush out to spend $400 - $500 on a new console.

CaPPa commented on Talking Point: The Download or Disc Dilemma:

@MeWario
It kind of sounds like you got your 3DS replaced by a store and didn't actually go through Nintendo. If that was the case then you would lose all your games. If however you went through Nintendo's repair process then they would have transferred all of your games to the new system.

I've started downloading a lot of games on 3DS because it's great to have games like Fire Emblem ready to play without carrying around a bunch of carts.

On the Wii U I've downloaded Monster Hunter and Need For Speed. Monster Hunter because with the amount of play it receives it is kinder on the optical drive and for when the offscreen play update comes I won't have to get up to switch disks. I downloaded NFS because I had $20 worth of DDP points and it was only 6GB.

I was only interested in this on Wii U because the Zapper/GamePad motion tracker idea sounded like it had the potential to be brilliant. If the game is as bad as the 360/PS3 versions though then not even that would save it.

@DerpSandwich
I'm the opposite of you, Lego City, MH3U, The Wonderful 101 and Windwaker HD were/are all on my most wanted list and day one purchases; where as Pikmin 3 doesn't interest me at all. I agree that they are all somewhat niche games though and might not have a big impact on sales but I'm pretty sure that either Mario 3D or Mario Kart U will be released in 2013 (more likely Mario Kart) and they can definitely be big sellers.

If the aforementioned games plus others (Game & Wario, Yoshi's Yarn etc) are spaced out over the year then it'd be ok, but if they come all at once and leave barren months inbetween then it'll be a problem.

Punch Out! and the demos today. Disappointed that there's no Zen Pinball 2 yet again. I'm losing patience with it and I think that I'm going to buy the Star Wars tables on PS3 now rather than wait for them to show up on Wii U.

On Tuesday I'll be downloading Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on the Wii U. I was going to get a retail copy but the announcement of offscreen play made up my mind to go digital. It'll mean that I can play it in any room without going to put in a disk and will save on disk/drive wear too (as Monster Hunter will inevitably take up hundreds of hours of my time).

CaPPa commented on Bioware: "No Plans" To Bring New Mass Effect 3...:

I bought ME3 for the Wii U when it was on sale for $40. That still seemed a bit pricey but I figured it was worth it for the GamePad play.

I already own the trilogy on the 360, but I doubt I'll bother with the DLC because I don't play on the 360 anymore (it's not even plugged in now), so they've lost a sale by not putting it on Wii U.

@Neram
I agree, if I wanted a game that badly then I'd buy the system it was on (I bought a PS3 pretty much just for DCU Online).

Funny how they'll 'give the fans what they want' when it's 360/PS3 owners, but always used to ignore the seemingly more vocal Wii owners when they wanted games.

I doubt I'll buy Revelations on console as I already have it for the 3DS, but I'll certainly recommend it to all my non 3DS owning friends as it is a great game and one of the best in the series for a long time.

CaPPa commented on Ubisoft "Satisfied" With Wii U Launch, But Not...:

@Bankai
If you didn't know, the Wii U is starved of titles at the moment, so Rayman could have picked up a few more sales. I would say that it was one of the more high profile titles along with ZombiU which I think has sold 300k so far despite some really bad reviews. There's also been enough time that the 2 million who bought NSMBU might be looking for a new platformer. We are also talking about 7 months of sales (over which time the userbase will have continued to grow), so I think that 300k seems quite achievable.

@gazamataz
Yes it eventually made money over a long sale but the opening sales were horrible (50k on all platforms). As Origins was a slow burner the 7 months of Wii U sales could have been really useful to Legends.

CaPPa commented on Ubisoft "Satisfied" With Wii U Launch, But Not...:

@the_shpydar
So you believe that Rayman Legends is going to shift lots of copies in September? I think you'll find that it'll bomb as badly as Origins did when put up against the big holiday hitters (GTA, Zelda, Mario etc), not to mention that the beloved 360/PS3 userbase is probably going to be more focused more on the new consoles rather than spending $60 on a niche title.

Going multiplatform to increase sales is a smart move. Delaying the finished Wii U version is not though because they've potentially removed 300k Wii U sales and alienated the userbase.

Ubisoft are going to find that their market share on Wii U is just going to decrease from now on.

If your Wii U broke then Nintendo would replace it and transfer all your games/saves to the new system. They did it for my Wii (for free too) and it only took 4 dys to return (unlike Microsoft who take up to 3 months). If 'Jon' had done that then he wouldn't have had a problem.

Likewise if it was stolen then they may reimburse you (I've heard it happen before), but that is probably more of a friendly gesture on a case by case basis (you'd need a Police report for a start).

There are obviously problems with purchases being tied to a system, but hopefully this will be rectified in the future (maybe when we get Miiverse on 3DS we'll get unified accounts too).

CaPPa commented on Tiger Woods Is Skipping The Wii U This Year:

Another dumb move by a publisher. Part of the draw of Tiger Woods on the Wii was that it gave something new with the Wiimote controls. I even bought it despite hating golf because it was one of the few games at the time actually making good use of the controls. With the Wii U already showing the possibility of something new (the GamePad tee/Wiimote club combo) it could be a great seller.

On the subject of sales, as far as I'm aware the Wii versions of Tiger Woods sold pretty well, 09 - 1.4 million,10 - 1 million, 11 - 500k, compared to 360, 09 -630k, 10 - 620k, 11 - 480k, or the PS3, 09 - 630k, 10 -750k, 11 - 780k. It could be argued that the sales dropped on 11 for Wii because the game was failing to add new features that the HD versions were getting (although it still sold comparatively well and probably had a much smaller budget), so if the Wii versions sold that well (up till 12 which didn't get a Wii release due to technical differences) why not put a Wii U version out that could generate some buzz.

I just hope that a smaller dev sees the opportunity and puts out a golf title that uses the GamePad/Wiimote and that it sells really well, better than Tiger Woods and EA are left kicking themselves.

CaPPa commented on Developer States That Wii U Woes Were a Focus ...:

There is a stigma attached to Nintendo from 3rd party developers/publishers. They put out 3rd rate software and then complain that it doesn't sell well on a Nintendo platform; which is ridiculous as it wouldn't sell well on any platform.

They love the Playstation and Xbox brands but don't trust in Nintendo, which is shown by the fact that the Wii U has sold more hardware and software than the PS3 did during its launch, yet they say "There was always the confidence that the numbers would get there over time with PS3. I’m not sensing that with Wii U".

As usual Nintendo will have to turn things around with some amazing games and then listen to 3rd parties whine for the rest of the gen that their half assed games don't sell as well as Nintendo's.

It's always the same story no matter what Nintendo does. With Wii U they are being by far the friendliest when it comes to digital content, for example not charging any extra for game updates (which should be great for 3rd party buggy games). It doesn't make any difference though and the only thing that'll change it is a huge number of Wii U systems being sold .

CaPPa commented on Wii U To Get An "Exclusive" Rayman Legends Dem...:

After much thought I'm not sure whether to be happy or sad. On one hand they've robbed me of a game that I was going to buy this month, but on the other they are saving me about $40 as I wont pay more than $20 for it come September.

The demo is just another kick in the teeth though. They'd do better to say nothing and just let the game die (which it will in September), or if it's purely a financial consideration then why not just cancel the game outright because they clearly don't care about it and are happy for it to tank.

Well Ubisoft just lost another sale. By September they'll be lots of other games that will command my attention, which means I'll pick up Legends used instead.

CaPPa commented on Amazon Lists The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker H...:

Most of the HD re-releases on 360/PS3 are just the original game upscaled, with many only being necessary because there's a lack of backwards compatibility on those systems. Windwaker looks to be more than just one of those HD re-releases though, so it wouldn't surprise me if it cost a bit more.

I'll buy it even if it's $60 as I never got to play much of it when it first came out.

CaPPa commented on There's Hope For Metal Gear Rising: Revengeanc...:

I'm not a Metal Gear fan but I'd buy Revengence on Wii U simply because it's by Platinum (and I've loved all their games so far).

My general view now though is unless I really want a game (for example I recently bought DOA5 on PS3 as I'm a big DOA fan) that I'll ignore it if there isn't a Wii U version. There will be too many 'must buy' games on Wii U, 3DS and PS3 for me to worry about 'maybe buys' anyway.

CaPPa commented on EA: Excited About New Generation Which Is "Yet...:

Now I'd never usually want a company to struggle but I really do hope that EA invests huge amounts in the next Xbox/Playstation and that it turns out to be a huge loss for them (if they have similar launches to PS3 for example). They could do with being taken down a peg or two.

I don't understand how this 'gen 4' of EA's is going to vastly overpower the Wii U though unless they are going to be $600 consoles, in which case they would almost certainly fail.

It seems more likely that EA is just being spiteful because Nintendo turned down their proposed online dominance. That isn't a good way to plan business strategies though and they deserve to flop if that really is the case (that and calling it gen 4 instead of gen 8 because gaming didn't start with Sony).

ZombiU gets praise because it's a good survival horror game despite a few rough edges. It is better than RE5 though imo (but not as good as Revelaitons).

CaPPa commented on Capcom Not Looking To Bring "Late Ports" To Wii U:

I own 360, PS3 and Wii U; so I've already played most of Capcom's recent games and can say that it isn't much of a loss for the Wii U as most of their titles have been rather mediocre. Monster Hunter is by far the best Capcom game that has come out. I would like to see Okami HD ported though (with touch screen controls added), it should be pretty easy as it was on the Wii before.

As for other late ports from other companies, well I'd love to see DOA5 appear on the Wii U with free DLC and Mass Effect 1&2 on eShop.
