Bakajin commented on Review: Super Metroid (Wii U eShop / Super Nin...:

One of the best games of all time. Almost got in a bit of trouble over this back in the day, when the Etecoons were laughing at me at the bottom of the pit and I was getting frustrated not realizing the were trying to teach me something useful, and my parents were yelling for me not realizing I had an SNES and TV in my closet they didn't know about, and eventually I just had to start a new game because I'd saved down that pit that I couldn't get out of.

Now, though, there's very few gaming pleasures that beat scaling a sheer cliff face, because Super Metroid has one of the best wall jumps and you totally only need one wall.

Bakajin commented on Feature: Celebrating Ten Years of The Wind Waker:

So many memories, I think this is definitely my favorite LoZ. I was excited not just for the game, but because if you pre-ordered it you received a free GC disk that had OoT and OoT: Master Quest. I really wanted to play Master Quest, and I was freaking pissed when I got a letter from Nintendo stating that they had received too many pre-orders, and they wouldn't be able to give me that disk. There was a $20 check with the letter by way of apology. I didn't want $20, I wanted that disk! Then I walked into a Pre-Played a couple of days later and there was that disk, just sitting on the shelf, for 19.99. It's still the only game I've ever pre-ordered.

And after all that, I never did play Master Quest all that much. WW took all of my attention. The game was just gorgeous, I found the sailing to be relaxing and fun, and there was just so much to do. I was annoyed that they cut dungeons, it definitely didn't have enough, but I couldn't stay too annoyed at the game. I still haven't collected all the figurines but one of these days I will, wearing my favorite lobster shirt.

Yeah, that's another thing I really love about that game. I get bored with Link wearing nigh-identical costumes in every game, and every chance I have to put him in something else I'll take. When I get the red tunic in OoT I never take it off unless I need the blue tunic, and I really, really wished the magic armor in Twilight Princess only sucked rupees when you got hit, I'd have worn it all the time. That lobster shirt, though, that's some pimpin' threads right there.

Mr. Luigi, just so you know, whenever I play Mario World I always start up a two player game, give all Mario's extra lives to you, and then kill him off right away.

Oh my goodness this is so much better than the NES port. You can actually see what things are supposed to be. Turns out, those trolls aren't trying to take a dump on you . . .

And I'm not sure I agree that the shield is the worst weapon. While the range is horrible, the more shield-y aspects of the weapon are much appreciated in level 5 . . . which I still can't get past.

Bakajin commented on Reggie Wonders Where Metroid: Other M Sales We...:

Do I recall seeing an article on this site about how well the game was selling at the end of the week it came out? I think a whole bunch of people like me bought it day one, then quickly warned any of their friends who were even slightly interested in the game about how horrible it was. I think my own word of mouth helped stop a few sales. Sorry Reggie, it's just a bad game. That simple.

Why do you guys even bother with a question for these contests? You should just have a Enter Contest button and be done with it. Anyone who needs to google the answer to this one is sorely lacking in geek cred.

@35&36: AFAIK the WiiWare version is the first official translation. I can understand being partial to the first version you were introduced to, but for me that's the WiiWare version, and every time he says Oh Yeah! it feels like Kool-Aid Man just showed up. I'll take Oh Yeah! any day.

I only played this once for an hour or two, but I never got "sucked in' to it . . . all punning aside, if I ever see this going for five or ten bucks I'll probably pick it up and finish it.

Bakajin commented on Review: Dr. Franken (Game Boy):

I loved this game when it first came out. Picked it up again a couple of months ago when I went on a nostalgic spending spree for old GB games and now the flaws are more apparent, or I'm less willing to put up with them. Still, I never minded the map. Also, the box art for mine was much cooler.

Sorry Bass, I don't buy your arguments. I was insulted then when this first came out, and I'm still insulted. Of course, I didn't realize FFLegend II was supposed to be hard, as far as I can recall, that was the first RPG I ever played so to me that's normal for how difficult an RPG should be. When I finally got an SNES FFIV was already impossible to find, I read the reviews for MQ and said to myself F*** that, and waited impatiently for FFVI to come out.

Bakajin commented on Review: Another World (Super Nintendo):

This review has inspired me to dig out my cart and place it by my monitor, where it will taunt me mercilessly until in another week or so I will plug it into my SNES and let it kick my repeatedly again.

Man I love this game. I only wish I were any good at it. The button-input-lag issue just kills me. That and they really make you careful about conserving your blaster's battery. So atmospheric, and I'm a sucker for anything and everything rotoscoped.

I think you people are missing the most important part of the review—the tagline. Chicken, that was a wonderful reference. As far as brick breakers go, they all put me to sleep.

Man, there's alot of hate floating about. Kinect doesn't look too impressive just yet, but it all depends on the software. If they can put together some games that properly take advantage of the non-controllerey possibilities, then it'll be a success and worthwhile. Otherwise, it won't . . .

Huh, I just ordered a copy of FF6Advance, didn't even realize this was in the works. Can't say I care that they're not doing this anymore; Amano doesn't translate into 3D. The game looks fine as it is. (I just really only ordered the GBA version to check out the new translation. I love my SNES FFIII cart and snuggle with it at night like it's a teddy bear, but I so wish I read Japanese so I could read the original game.)

Thanks for the well-wishes, those of you who were able to get over your seething jealousy. Can't wait to bust this out to play Cave Story with, with my sweaty hands, while scarfing down handfuls of Cheetos . . . but what's a 'compo'?

@Sean Aaron: that's nice and all that they put some work into the English track, but some of us are of the opinion that in this day and age there is no excuse for not giving us a Japanese audio track if one has been recorded. Not including it is just laziness.

Bakajin commented on Review: Super Mario Sunshine (GameCube):

@28: I think you're forgetting SML2 was also the premier of the greatest Mario-universe character ever, Wario.

But yeah, Sunshine rocks. I even love the blue coins. But, like so many people, I love the FLUDDless platforming sections best. And the squid surfing seriously annoyed me for a while.

Bakajin commented on Round Table: Mario's Past and Future:

For my part, I'll admit I'm biased. My parent's wouldn't let me have a console growing up, so I had to save up, buy an SNES behind their backs, and sneak it downstairs to play when they weren't around. SMW was the only game I had to play for a long time. I can intellectually understand that SMB3 might be the better game on some hypothetical objective scale, but I doubt it. Super Mario World rocks my world.

And as for 3D it's so hard to choose, but Sunshine might be my favorite. Never understood why it got so much hate.

One of the used stores in my area has had four of these for a couple of years for like 10-15 bucks each. It's been in the back of my mind for a while that I should head over there and pick one up, and this article has just made that impulse stronger.

I'm gonna laugh so hard if I win this, cause I really don't care at all about it. I'd probably just put it up on EBay
