Widdowson91 commented on Nintendo Europe Launches Japanese RPG Trio Con...:

It's only fair that Europe are finally getting the good treament after years of neglect. I still find it sad that classic SNES RPGs such as Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger missed us. Of course it's bad for American though, but you have to understand that the market for JRPGs is bigger in Europe at the moment. WRPGs are dominating America sales, and Nintendo obviously feel that Xenoblade will under perform in America. I'll be getting both The Last Story and Pandora's Tower day one.

Widdowson91 commented on Dragon Quest X Requires Online Connection:

The online features isn't what's bothering me here. What's bothering me is the possibility of a pay-to-play online structure. I've always loved the look of World of Warcraft and would love to play it, but I totally disagree with paying a monthly fee to play a game online when I've already forked out money to buy the game in the first place, so I've never played it. Am I gutted? In the sense that I've not played a game I want to play then yes. But I'd rather spend my money on new games then on paying to play the same game constantly. But I personally feel the west won't get these charges, I mean the Wii's internet connections are garbage so who'd pay for that? Also Momster Hunter Tri and a few other games all have montly fees in Japan while been free in the west.

As a game I'm intrigued in Dragon Quest X and will surely play it if it's free online. But if there's charges then I'll pass and wait for Dragon Quest XI. People view DLC and pay-to-play games as the future, but I sure as hell hope I don't see a day when every game has a charge to play it on top of the initial purchase price.

Widdowson91 commented on Dragon Quest X Goes Online for Wii and Wii U:

Sounds interesting. Hopefully the Wii U version will showcase the possibilities of the up-to-now unknown online capabilities. As for coming to the west, I think it is a safe bet. Dragon Quest is Square-Enix's second biggest franchise and I'm sure Squar will want a world wide release.

Widdowson91 commented on A New Dragon Quest Announcement Approaches:

If Dragon Quest X still makes it to the Wii (I beleive that development will shift to the Wii U), the Wii has a great send off in Europe. Xenoblade has juse been released and we've still got Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Skyward Sword, Pandora's Tower, The Last Story and Dragon Quest X to come.

Widdowson91 commented on Xenoblade Chronicles Assaults UK Top 10:

Japanese RPG's generally sell better in Europe than the States. It wasn't always like this, but now it sure is and that's probably why Nintendo released it here while dragging their heels about a possible North American release. I've played it for 25 hours now and I can alrealy say with confidence that it is by far the best JRPG of the generation and quite possibly the outright best RPG also.

My top 10 SNES games are Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, Super Metroid, EarthBound, Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Secret of Mana and Donkey Kong Country.

Widdowson91 commented on Talking Point: What If Nintendo Became a Third...:

I don't understand the doom and gloom. Sure Nintendo's stock value may be the worst it has been for 6 years but it is still better than it was during the N64 and GameCube eras. I'd rather them be in their current situation than the situation they were in a decade ago. Anyway Sony have kept announcing major losses all generation and nobody batters an eyelid. They lost $3.6 billion last tax year (as an entire company), which is major. Nintendo only lost $330 million. Oh no, Nintendo are in trouble...

Widdowson91 commented on Feature: What Happened to Metroid 64?:

I completeley agree with what you said about Symphony of the Night. Castlevania's entry into 3D realms was garbage to say the least, yet Symphony of the Night was awesome. Imagine what a 2D Metroid game would have been like with the advancements in tech of the N64. It could have been a bigger, better and bolder version of Super Metroid, which would have been completeley awesome.

Widdowson91 commented on Review: Metroid Prime (GameCube):

Metroid Prime is the definitive Metroid game in my eyes. I love Super Metroid a hell of a lot too, but I think that Prime was the complete package. Exploration, atmosphere, immersion, music, visuals - everything just clicked together. The best GameCube game by far and easily the best game of last generation.

Widdowson91 commented on Metroid Celebrates its 25th Anniversary Today:

Metroid kicks ass. I prefer both Mario and Zelda personally, but 2 Metroid games are in my top 10 games of all time (Super Metroid and Metroid Prime) while only one Mario is. Metroid Fusion is the best game for the GameBoy Advance while Metroid Prime 3 is one of the best Wii games.

God I love the Metroid franchise :D:D:D

Widdowson91 commented on Pachter Thinks Nintendo has Superior First-Par...:

@Vinsanity: ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, God of War, Uncharted...

All these titles ARE NOT FIRST PARTY. A first party game is a game that is developed by the console manufacturer themselves. All those game you named weren't developed by Sony. They were all developed by other companies. If you said PS3 ahs better third party games I couldn't disagree, but they don't have better thrst party games because they don't have any.

Widdowson91 commented on Pachter Thinks Nintendo has Superior First-Par...:

Nintendo managed to sell the Wii, a far technically weaker console than the other two, on first-party offerings alone. Personally I can't ever see Microsoft and Sony been able to do the same. I like all the consoles this gen, but as far as first party games go, the Wii has the best set. Games such as Uncharted and Gears of War aren't even first party games anyway. First party is if the console company themselves make a game. Uncharted mught be published by Sony, and exclusive to their consoles, but it's only a second party title. This is becuase Naughty Dog existed before Sony bought them out. Sony only ever buy out companies. If they themselves founded a company and that company made a game then it would be first party. But if you buy an existing company then their games are only ever second party. Same thing goes for Microsoft. In theory Gears of War is only a third party title, because Epic aren't restricted to only making games for the Xbox.

Widdowson91 commented on Uncharted Studio: "Wii U is Full of Holes, Not...:

I read this article on another site. The other article I read gave more info on what he exactly said. He said that the Wii U offers othing the PS3 and Vita don't. but then went on to say But I've not seen a dev kit.

So basically he's talking . But you expect that from a company owned by Sony.

Widdowson91 commented on EA Founder Criticises Nintendo's "Feudal Dark ...:

I would have taken this comment a little more seriously if it wasn't for the fact that Trip Hawkins founded the money-sucking Electronic Arts. I'm still pissed off at EA for not supporting the Dreamcast. And then they had the nerve to buy all the rights to NFL becuase Sega's own NFL games were ten times better than Madden. Instead of EA improving their games, they stopped the competition from showing them how to reallty make good games using just money.

Also, he can't really give Nintendo advice when you consider that his own foray in to the console market, the 3DO, was a complete flop. That thing cost £600. Sure the thing was a monster compared to the SNES and Mega Drive, but did he seriously think he could be competitive at that price? Yeah Trip, good business.

Widdowson91 commented on Talking Point: The Growing Storm of Operation ...:

It all comes down to Nintendo's business ethics. Nintendo have always worked at a profit, even with the Nintendo 64 and GameCube. Historically if you look back at their games, the series that are now dormant are ones that didn't sell very well. Why has the Mother franchise been dead in the west for 16 years? Why have F-Zero and Star Fox not appeared for the Wii? Titles like these never sold well and resulted in Nintendo losing money. Also the general sales of Japanese RPG's have dramatically declined in America now that Western RPG's have become popular. That's why Nintendo won't risk it with these three JRPG's.

I can agree with what they're doing, but at the same time I can't help but disagree with them. I love Nintendo do death, but making decisions like this only results in them damaging their own reputation. How can they begin to convinve the core gaming market that the Wii U is worthy of a purchase if they won't risk bringing these three RPG's to North America? It see,s stupid to me. They can risk it. Even if Nintendo do make a loss on the games does it matter when you consider the amount of money the Wii and DS has made them? Losing money when you're struggling is one thing, but when you're flying high it won't affect you at all.

I'm just thankful that I live in Europe. I'll be getting these three games the day they're released (yes, Pandora's Tower has also been confirmed for Europe too). It's times like these when you realise that all consoles should be region free.

Widdowson91 commented on Wii U Games Using Two New Controllers Being Co...:

I think it'd be stupid on Nintendo's behalf is they didn't sell new Wii U controllers, because what would happen if yours breaks? Personally though, Nintendo won't be that stupid. I also think that you'll be able to use four Wii U controllers at once.

What I really want though from Wii U is a really solid online system that beats XBox Live. If you go on talk from developers, this is going to happen.

Widdowson91 commented on Chrono Trigger:

Chrono Trigger is, quite simply, the greatest RPG ever made and possibly the best game of all time. I live in Europe, therefore I missed out on its original SNES release, but I imported the NTSC PlayStation version last year and played it. I bought both the PlayStation port and late last year I managed to get an actual boxed SNES version with the manual and maps. I plan on getting the DS version and the Virtual Console version too, because the game really is good enough to own four times.
