Volcanox commented on Retailers In North America Merge Wii U & 3DS L...:

Grainger Games is a viable option. Now I live in Cheltenham, do I want to go my nearest store 100 miles away? The north south divide is a thing if you remember, and unfortunately the losing side is called GAME, but give it time, I expect a withdrawal from the UK market soon-ish.

Volcanox commented on Feature: Have You Played... ZombiU?:

I predict a storm in the comments...well guess we should wind down the days of the Wii U and less so 3DS by looking over the releases that make them gems that didn't sell.

TBH I think it would be interesting to see who owns a Wii U but played each release listed in this series. I for one don't own ZombiU, but because I'm simply not a horror fan. Never found an interest in it.

I think Mario Maker is going to come under Critical Dissonance, but time will tell. I see it as a sleep hit more than anything. At least as reviewers were...well...reviewing it, they seemed more kind on the series than normal, despite being unable to fully dedicate time in a lot of cases to master utilising the title.

Hey, if this is a fantastic piece of software then so be it, circumstances dictate I cant get it, at least not yet. Not nice being told you need a gaming PC or a "real console" for a games design course otherwise your grades will likely fall below others and your experience and development ideas aren't good enough.

I'm struggling for inspiration because my usual inspiration (See: Classic games and Mario Maker) isn't seemingly valid anymore. And hey, that's just how my course roles and how I'm being trained, I'm just ignoring the fact I hate my creativity being shoved to the side by peers because I don't have a real console or god forbid Steam. If I don't drop what I want to do, seemingly I will fail, and I don't want that. I'll have to speak to the staff and see what they think before I throw money at a PS4 and feel slightly accepted.

Volcanox commented on Super Mario Maker Tops The Charts In Japan, Ca...:

@Gamer83 They'll find without a price drop to compensate for this holiday season, they might lose a bit to Microsoft. The market can and will react like that, it's happened before. It's the weakness of Sony unfortunately, and it showed with the start of the PS3, and sadly to this day with anything NOT PS4 related. They think they word PlayStation sells stuff and doesn't.

Volcanox commented on Super Mario Maker Tops The Charts In Japan, Ca...:

@Gamer83 It's rare to hear people address just how....I'll say it, BAD, SCEE is, namely with the PSone on PS3 stuff (Thanks for the blatent BS) and their...lovely...soon to increase PS+ prices. Makes me wonder where that money is going.

Might just have to bite for full price. Sad to see the PS4 has had /small/ price moements here, but nothing in the way of the Wii U or Xbone cuts. Hell, its the most expensive console here by some margin.

Volcanox commented on Super Mario Maker Tops The Charts In Japan, Ca...:

@Gamer83 Well its a case of now we know they are willing to drop the price, will they?

Thing is, I don't feel as though I can get the value for money with the way the PS4 lineup is forming, according to my own tastes. Again, different strokes for different folks. A price drop would, in theory, push me to that point. I'd feel more confident in my purchase.

Of course, this is Sony. Specifically Sony EU. Their track record is like NoA. Plus, being a student these finances matter. So if I see they are going to be willing to drop the price elsewhere, I'm going to wait.

Volcanox commented on Super Mario Maker Tops The Charts In Japan, Ca...:

Well, it's seemingly shows these big AAA releases lack the long legs of Nintendo releases, but also this might be a warning that the PS4 price drop is too little too late. Next week will tell. It's not flying on back-catalog alone.

Volcanox commented on Guide: 8 Tips to Become an Expert Level Design...:

All practice for my level design classes really. It's good to really think, what is the end goal of your level? How do you want the player to approach it, and what will they feel playing it? Fun, a challenge, a relative easy going thing? Then get the paper and draw.

Volcanox commented on Dragon Quest VIII and 3DS Overtaken by Metal G...:

@Frank90 It's less of that and more....the charts do change, and it is a positive thing, but unless they can be arrogant about PS4 success they don't want to hear it.

Which is odd...because other wider fanbases tend to be positive, unless it goes really tits up (See Nintendo and UK)

Volcanox commented on Mario Memories: Rediscovering the Wonder in Ga...:

This is wonderful. Really shows how gaming has changed. When you grow up, or in some places before that, a game isn't a game unless its full of murder and corpses and kids swearing more than a soldier.

The writer wouldn't by any chance be in the UK, given he stated he felt as though he HAD to play those kinds of games

Volcanox commented on GAME Processes Additional Charges on Super Mar...:

@Grumblevolcano Devil's Advocate. I'd rather have the slightly off delivery (It's not always Hermes, sometimes it's Yodel) and customer service know...responds, since GAME seemingly doesn't and pay RRP and get a neat bonus like a t-shirt, than overpay and possibly have my entire student overdraft eaten.

Volcanox commented on GAME Processes Additional Charges on Super Mar...:

Well, they have to make a profit on Nintendo products somehow...

Seriously though....the hell? Double order, yeah okay, stuff happens. 7 though? £300 and beyond? Oh hell no. Where's the fixes and the customer service? Or Is GAME really trying to drop the Nintendo crowd and going the most efficient route to do so?

Volcanox commented on The Smaller New Nintendo 3DS Model is Coming t...:

So I just woke up....

I'm buying a PS4 and a load of indie titles soon mate, but thanks for dragging me into a conversation I had no intent of ever being involved in. I don't fan boy and if you have criticisms then fine you can voice them. I've never had an issue with you (I don't hint I even know you but hello anyway) and my issue is with those few who explode in everything this company does is wrong Japanese games suck etc. Etc. No rhyme or reason comments that add nothing to the discussion.

Thanks for the label though, I can probably add it just after my degree in a few years time. Now for a lovely family day out.

Volcanox commented on Mario Memories: Basking in the Glow of Super M...:

@Gamer83 I enjoyed Sunshine for what it was. It was actually the last 3D Mario game I got so I started with Galaxy.

As for Galaxy and Galaxy 2? Now that's just preference there I think. One is a bit harder, with a very arcade like approach to levels which I enjoy, and it just feels better paced but that depends on your gaming preference. I can play either just fine.

Volcanox commented on Mario Memories: Basking in the Glow of Super M...:

@DarthNocturnal Well you had the inventory screen that showed how many of the coins you had per stage, but that was it.

@Gamer83 It's odd. Sunshine didn't click with a lot of people, maybe for the collectathon issues like Blue Coins, but I know just as many people who didn't click with 64 due to a few design issues and generally being a more archaic though very iconic and a landmark title. I think it's preference, though with these two games it may well be, as said in the article a case of "You had to be there".

Volcanox commented on Shovel Knight amiibo Confirms "Evolving" Relat...:

I'm out of Budweiser guys. :/

Let's focus on the story here. Yay independent amiibo. Yay Nintendo is letting them use the brand name. Yay They have to make it themselves. Yay the use of amiibo is down the individual studio.

Seriously? 1! ONE AMIIBO OUT OF 71 SO FAR! And you lot think it's the end of the bloody world. God forbid if you're in a room with 70 other people, one sneezes, and you declare everyone there now automatically has the flu.
