vio commented on Watch Dogs Wii U Release Dates Confirmed:

@midnafanboy That's because Rayman Legends wasn't a port. That was built from the ground up for the Wii U and as you may recall, was originally going to be a Wii U exclusive. It's actually the 360 and PS3 versions that are ported over from the Wii U build. That's frankly the only reason the Wii U version is actually the best version.

I can understand why so many people don't want to buy it considering it's supposedly not all that great and many Wii U owners are rightfully pissed off at Ubisoft these days.

But I beg you guys to reconsider. If this sold well on the Wii U, there's a good chance Ubisoft might reconsider their new BS "no more mature titles on the Wii U" crap.

@MajinSoul Uh, that's it? Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed says hello! That's a fantastic racer on the Wii U! In fact, I much prefer it to Most Wanted U. Most Wanted is a beautiful game, but frankly bores me.

BTW, there's some other racers on the Wii U like Fast & Furious: Showdown and Hot Wheels: Worlds Best Driver, but sadly they are complete crap.

vio commented on Wii U Minecraft Looking Doubtful As Dev Says T...:

I could care less about the game, but my son would surely love to get it. This is just more of the typical 3rd party "boycott Nintendo for no good reason" BS. Do these idiots running these companies truly believe the Xbone has a larger market share than the Wii U? What is Microcrap doing to get all these 3rd parties to support their crappy console and pretend like it's more successful than the Wii U? I'm so fed up with it.

And the Vita has Minecraft, but the 3DS doesn't? Really? Seriously? The 3DS has sold 44 million. The Vita has sold 4 million! Yes, that's 44 million versus 4 million. Where's the "user base" argument there? Oh wait, they don't have one. They just suck on the nipple of Sony and Microsoft and pretend like Nintendo doesn't exist even when they completely dominate like they do with the 3DS.

@xj0462 LOL... Obviously not. I mean the WiiWare service is completely dead. It's really disappointing as I loved this game(and the second one even more so) as a kid and was really looking forward to this. It figures that out of the 3 games they had announced for WiiWare, this is the ONLY one they did not release!

Of course they could definitely just release it to the Wii U eShop now, but I wouldn't hold up hope for that either. Interplay is still in business apparently, but seems only just barely so. Wikipedia shows they currently have a whopping 10 employees! What's funny is their web site still shows Descent is coming:

@InnerSpirit Exactly. Donkey Kong and Yoshi were there since the very beginning with Super Mario Kart, so everyone is 'used' to them being there. But is seeing Link racing around in a go-kart really more ridiculous than seeing a gorilla and a dinosaur do it?

vio commented on Somebody At Ubisoft Really Doesn't Like Mario ...:

@ReigningSemtex Yeah, that's how I feel. I used to be quite fond of Ubisoft as they had always been strong supporters of Nintendo. They were fantastic with the original Wii and they started off great with Wii U, but lately they've just been ticking me off.

From turning Rayman Legends from an exclusive to a multi-plat and actually delaying the already finished game so they could release the 360 and PS3 ports at the same time, delaying Watch Dogs for no apparent reason, admitting they have an unknown completed game, but refuse to release it and now stating "no more mature games for the Wii U, but we've got plenty of Just Dance coming for ya!" Oy.. I don't know what has happened to them...

vio commented on Talking Point: Mario Kart 8's Diverse DLC Sets...:

@rjejr My theory is that they are doing all this extensive advertising in the game itself and else where months in advanced because they are desperately trying to get a good 90% or more of MK8 owners to purchase the DLC, which is a very difficult thing to accomplish. I mean think of how many children without jobs and credit/debit cards there are that have MK 8. They have to basically beg their parents to put money on their eShop account to get this and Nintendo has now set it up so they will be begging their parents for over 2 months until the first pack is released and then another 6 months until the second pack is released...

Now the reason I believe it's so important to Nintendo that such a large portion of the MK8 owners buy this DCL is because I suspect Nintendo is going to split up the online community. I mean there's really no way to avoid it unless they let all the people who did NOT buy the DLC play the new tracks online for free, which is obviously not fair to everyone who did buy it and would hurt the DLC sales big time. The only other option would be to make the new courses off-line only, which would be absurd and cause a HUGE backlash! Hell, for me personally, all I really care about is the new courses. The new karts and characters are just icing on the cake. If I learned I could just play the DLC courses online for free, I definitely wouldn't buy the packs!

Anyway, I will shut up now. I think you get what I'm saying.

@MoonKnight7 That's the power of DLC for you. People here can say it's a bad thing for whatever reason, but look at the insane response the announcement of real, meaningful DLC like this gets. Clearly the Nintendo community is starving for this!

I suppose it's such a big deal because it's not something us Nintendo gamers are really used to yet. Besides for New Super Luigi U, I can't think of any other major DLC like this coming from Nintendo. Many people are going to be racing these new courses, characters and karts for years to come online. This is sort of the dawn of a new era!

vio commented on Mario Kart 8 DLC Coming In November, Features ...:

@Larryislife, I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if they're planning to actually release 4 DLC packs in total, which would be insane considering how many courses and characters that would come out to! But Nintendo knows how long the legs of MK are. People will be playing the game for years to come and there's always just 1 Mario Kart per system. It's not like Call of Duty or something where there's a new entry every year.

There was still a lot of people playing MK Wii online until the day the severs were shut down.

vio

vio commented on Mario Kart 8 DLC Coming In November, Features ...:

@tysonfury I'm also almost certain the DLC will have to be purchased to play the new courses! Allowing anyone to play the new tracks free online would severely decrease the DLC sales. Nintendo will likely split up the community, which sucks, but luckily the MK 8 community is more than large enough for it not to make a huge difference.

vio commented on Mario Kart 8 DLC Coming In November, Features ...:

You guys complaining about paid DLC need to get over it and go away! It's 2014 and this is how things work now. With 32 tracks, 30 characters, free online play and more karts and configurations than any other MK entry, it's not like you guys bought an "incomplete" game.

I've vocalized my utter frustration with DLC and the Call of Duty games and how we're treated like second-class by Activision several times on other threads here at NintendoLife. Well now here's an AWESOME game that can't even be played on the other consoles and now we're getting the big DLC packs like CoD does to boot and it's all ours! When they announced the DLC that comes out tomorrow, I was happy to hear we were at least getting some DLC and it was free and all, but I was also immediately disappointed. I thought to myself "Oy, no new courses? No new characters? Just a few new karts?" Well, here we go... this proves Nintendo is listening and cares.

After both these packs come out, this is gonna be one MASSIVE beast of a Mario Kart game!

vio commented on Activision Confirms That Call of Duty: Advance...:

@BakaKnight Yeah, I have both Black Ops 2 and Ghosts and I find them both enjoyable. I think both games are well made FPS'. I know Ghosts gets a lot of crap, but I think it's a solid game as well. Certainly not a poorly made game by any means. I've played soooo much worse in my near 30 years of gaming.

Like you, I haven't played previous entries in the series and I can only assume that there's so much hate for the franchise because people who have been playing since the first Modern Warfare or even the old World War 2 games are simply bored or burned out on it because a new entry is released yearly and all of the games are so similar to one another. That and maybe also because the online game servers are infested with 10 year old screaming boys and dude-bros.

My only real issue with my CoD experience on the Wii U has been the shaft we have been given with DLC. DLC is a BIG part of the CoD experience and the fact that we get NONE of the map packs really gimps the games. We were told by Activision when they announced Black Ops 2 for the system that Nintendo users were finally going to get the "FULL" Call of Duty experience and clearly that was a lie. Perhaps Activision were planning to release all of the DLC originally(with season passes and what not, like on the other systems...), but then changed their minds when Blops 2 failed to sell 2 million copies on the Wii U, but that still doesn't change the fact that they stiffed us. There's some speculation now that Treyarch's Wii U team is busy porting over all of the DLC packs for both Black Ops 2 and Ghosts now since they supposedly have had nothing else to work on, but I will believe it when I see it. I've bought too much into BS rumors in the Nintendo CoD community already.

And here we are 2 years later and still no voice chat patched in and likely never will be. What's sad is that you don't even need a third party headset either. Earbuds with a built in mic, like the ones you often get with smartphones work just fine as well. I use the ones that came with my Galaxy S4 with Black Ops 2 and Ghosts.

vio commented on Wii U Owners Finally Get The Nuketown 2025 Map...:

@Banker-Style It's a great little map. Great style(with the 1950's/60's decour) and very frantic. But it's still soooo little in comparison to what the Playstation and Xbox CoD players have. Here is what we are still missing and sadly, probably will never get... :(

Multiplayer maps:
Downhill
Hydro
Mirage
Grind
Magma
Vertico
Encore
Studio
Cove
Detour
Rush
Summit
Pod
Frost
Courtyard
Stadium

And these Zombies maps:
Nuketown Zombies
Die Rise
Turned
Mob of the Dead
Buried
Origins

So, as you can clearly see here, what we have with just Nuketown is nothing but crumbs in comparison. As others have said, just like Xbox and PS3 owners, we also paid $60 for this game. We deserve access to all the same content. While I'm certainly happy to have Nuketown now, getting thrown a scrap after 2 years does not cut it for me.

vio commented on Die Rise Could Arrive in Call of Duty: Black O...:

@Laxeybobby That's not really a fair comparison. All Black Ops 2 did now was simply play catch up to Ghosts. They now both have one single bonus DLC map... And Black Ops 2 fans had to wait nearly 2 years for what Ghosts has already had for months now. It's rather absurd. Fact is, NEITHER game on the Wii U gets the real DLC that matters which is the DLC packs. Black Ops 2 has 4(Die Rise and Turned actually both come the first pack called Revolution) and Ghosts 4th and final one is coming out for the other consoles real soon.

Either way, the whole thing is a real disappointment, especially for me as I care far more about Zombies maps than standard multiplayer ones. I got so pumped when Die Rise and Turned appeared on the leaderboards, only to be let down yet again. Maybe more DLC will come, but I'm not getting my hopes up again.

vio commented on Wii U Owners Finally Get The Nuketown 2025 Map...:

This was a true shocker, but definitely a welcome surprise. After playing the same maps over and over and over again, getting even just one small map like this is a breath of fresh air.

One thing that no one is talking about here is the Die Rise and Turned controversy. After this update took place yesterday, Die Rise and Turned(both Zombies DLC maps for anyone who doesn't know!) showed up on the online leaderboards. You can't actually play them(sad face), but they are mysteriously there regardless... There's multiple theories about this, some people saying Treyarch are actually gearing up to release those 2 maps, others saying they're actually gonna release the full Revolution DLC pack(maybe even free of charge) and other people are saying it's just some weird glitch. Some folks are even theorizing that perhaps Advanced Warfare is NOT coming to the Wii U and Activison is having Treyarch release ALL of the DLC for Black Ops 2 now as a way to try and appease us for that. Getting all of the DLC would be simply mind blowing, but personally I think that theory is just too far fetched for me to believe considering the terrible history of CoD on Nintendo platforms and DLC... All 4 full DLC packs for a 2 year old game with a very small online community? There's no frickin' way they would bother...

Either way, it all has the community rather excited right now. One guy on the Wiiverse forum claims he spoke to an Activision rep over the phone and was told we are in fact getting those maps. But I take that stuff with a grain of salt. The CoD community is infested with young boys 12 and under who frankly make up a lot of complete BS.

Still it will be interesting to see what happens. I'm a huge Zombies fan and the thought of a minor miracle happening and getting Die Rise and Turned, or the full Revolution pack(!) has me extremely excited. 2 years late? Who gives a crap! Like the headline says: better late than never! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

While the game obviously already has a lot of tracks at 32, I have raced all of them online countless times now. I would love see some 'track packs.' I would gladly pay for them. With games like CoD on other consoles, they always get a bunch of new DLC map packs. We should get the same. Create season passes and give us the goods Nintendo!

Another addition I would love to see with an update is the ability for one player to play on the gamepad while the other uses the TV. But maybe that's not possible for technical reasons. I know the game pushes the Wii U hardware, but surely they could drop the framerate to make it possible or something. I'll take 30fps if that's the only way to do it.

vio commented on Capcom Is Remastering The GameCube Resident Ev...:

While this is yet another example of the Wii U getting stiffed for no apparent reason, I really don't even care. I owned the original Gamecube REmake back in the day and I could always play the Wii version on my Wii U if I wanted to(it's 17 bucks on Amazon right now). So it has pretty HD graphics now. Big deal.

This however is further proof that Nintendo needs to just buy Capcom. Then Nintendo can simply remove all of Capcom's franchises from the Xbox and Playstation world for good. Those consoles get EVERYTHING 3rd party related. It's time they got screwed over for once.

vio commented on Wii U Reference Discovered In Call of Duty: Ad...:

Honestly, I care more about DLC than I do Advanced Warfare. And not even so much the standard multiplayer maps(though it sure would be nice to have them), but rather the Zombies and Extinction DLC. I love to play those modes online with friends, but have gotten burned out playing the same single map for each game over and over again. I look at videos of that awesome underground western ghost town Zombies map called Buried and I just get furious! They force us to buy Xbox's or Playstation's if we want the DLC and I'm sick of it.

Activision/Treyarch/Infinity Ward need to release ALL of the DLC packs for Black Ops 2 and Ghosts on the eShop immediately and sell them 50% off as a way of apologizing for screwing the Nintendo CoD community out of DLC for years now. We might be a small community, but we still exist and we are fed up with getting screwed over with DLC!

@Dark-Link73
Please do NOT thank Activision for this. While it's nice to have and free, it was already available for the other consoles anyway. We Wii U owners do not get what matters. Activision refuses to releases the tons of awesome DLC packs. They never released any of them for the Wii U version of Black Ops 2 and it looks like Ghosts is going to get the same treatment. Of course the 360 and PS3 get them all. That's crap and I'm sick of it.

It's especially odd to considering how close Tecmo and Nintendo are now, developing Hyrule Warriors. You would think Tecmo would want to patch this game up.. Oh well, it's still a fun game and you can pick up a copy on Amazon for cheap now as well.

I say go buy it and show 3rd parties we want their games on Wii U!

I haven't played the other racers on this list, but the 2 Sonic racers are superb, especially Transformed. In some ways, I think it's a superior game to Mario Kart 8. Longer courses than MK 8 and they dynamically change as well and of course the ability to change into a boat or aircraft. The gameplay also seems even more intense and fast than even MK 8's 150cc mode. Anyone who likes Kart racers and doesn't yet have it most definitely should pick up a copy for their Wii U. Heck, get the first game too! Neither one costs much money these days!

None of this is to take away from MK 8, which is an awesome game. It's just that Sumo did nearly everything right with Transformed. They truly put a lot of love and time into it. I hope they make a 3rd one!

Well, people are already starting to complain big 3rd party titles are skipping over the Wii U(see GTA 5 for a great example...) and here's a big 3rd party game on the Wii U and yet you guys say "Forget this crap! I'm gonna go play Super Mario 3D World!" Well it's no wonder 3rd parties don't want to support the Wii U with that kind of mentality... Perhaps we should be grateful that Activision is still releasing CoD on the platform. It's not like the Wii U has a crap ton of FPS' either. I'm not saying CoD: Ghosts is a great 10 out of 10 game, but it's still nice to have on the Wii U and I hope you guys go buy it to show 3rd parties we want their games on the Wii U.

I never owned a 360 or PS3, so I'm enjoying these proper HD CoD's. The Wii versions were always inferior watered down ports IMO.

vio commented on GamePad High Capacity Battery Available Now in...:

@Falco Well, not really... If you look up videos on YouTube of people installing the new battery you will see it's true that, very conveniently, there is a bunch of unused space in the gamepad for the new, larger battery to occupy. Meaning Nintendo obviously planned on this from the beginning. HOWEVER, I don't believe they did this just to suck more money out of us. I believe it was simply a cost cutting measure to keep the price of the console down. That way they can sell us the system for less money upfront and then those who want the larger battery can pay for it later on. Cost cutting measures like this are also the reason Nintendo can now sell the deluxe version of the Wii U for 300 bucks. It was a smart decision IMO.

vio commented on Nintendo Set To End Production of the Wii:

Sad news. :( I thought it was a great console, despite it's dated SD hardware. It was a unique and innovative system, one that became a phenomenon when it launched, bringing Nintendo back to the top of the mountain in the console wars. And sadly, I believe it will also be the last video game system to ever reach the 100 million mark in sales...

It was also home to some of Nintendo's best games IMO. Not 1, but 2 incredible Mario Galaxy games, the epic Metroid Prime 3(and the awesome trilogy collection to boot!), 2 amazing Zelda's and Mario Kart Wii(online multiplayer finally!). It also brought 2D platformers back to glory with New Super Mario Bros Wii, Donkey Kong Country Returns, 2 Kirby's and the masterpiece that is Rayman Origins(yeah that one is multiplat, but it definitely still counts). Great stuff there! Not to mention it of course had Virtual Console, which is something I had DREAMED about years prior to the Wii making it a reality. WiiWare also had some great games, including long overdue new Castlevania, Contra and Megaman games for a Nintendo home console! When I see some people say their Wii just collects dust, I scratch my head in confusion and disappointment... There's so many great games to play on it.

It's demise is good for the Wii U though. Especially with so many people still thinking the Wii U is just a peripheral for the Wii.

Donkey Barrel Blast was never released on the Gamecube. Yes, it was originally developed for the system, but the Gamecube version was cancelled and it was released on the Wii instead. So it can't truly be labeled a Gamecube DK game.
