Tyeforce commented on 3DS System Update Locks Out a Lot of Flashcard...:
@Fry That's not true. There are additional costs and labor that goes into every Virtual Console game. The emulator isn't already a part of the 3DS. Nintendo makes a customized emulator for every Virtual Console game they release—that's why Virtual Console games are emulated so faithfully. Also, the games have to be tested and digital manuals must be made for all of them. In addition to that, there's the cost of getting each game rated by ESRB/PEGI/CERO/etc. And I'm sure there's some kind of cost for keeping the games up on the server. There's a lot more to it than Nintendo just slapping a ROM on the eShop for a quick buck.

@theblackdragon "yeah, there's more gender-neutral DLC, but what person who isn't so enamored with frilly pink things is going to want to wade through all that mess to find the handful of things they want when you can just as easily mess around with your photos with the much-less-potentially-embarrassing built-in 3DS Camera options?"
Me? And probably other people who aren't so self-conscious that they won't play good games/apps that may not be targeted to their audience, but still have potential for fun? And also possible anyone who's into Japanese culture, as Purikura machines are a pretty big thing, and not only for girls. And by the looks of it, this app is far more advanced than what's available in Nintendo 3DS Camera.
"btw, what improvements over the original are you seeing here? from the review, I'm not really seeing any"
I haven't been able to download the app myself (hasn't been released in North America yet...), but it caught my interest and I've been reading any reviews, impressions, and videos I can find of it, so I know a lot about it. I don't have the DSiWare version either, but I have a friend who does, and it's pretty nifty. Probably a bit too girly for me (that's not to say I can't have some fun messing around with it, though), but at least the 3DS one has some not-so-girly Mario themes. Anyway, from everything I've seen about the app so far, it looks like a pretty decent improvement over the DSiWare version. Plus, you can create 3D pictures. If that's not a huge leap, I don't know what is. That alone makes me want to download it. I can't wait to be able to make a bunch of silly pictures with this and share them in 3D over Swapnote.
Also, I don't mean to come off as rude or anything, so I apologize if it seemed like that. :3

@theblackdragon I guess you're right. Though, they gave Sparkle Snapshots 3D the same score as the DSiWare Sparkle Snapshots, and I remember there being a lot of complaints in that review about not being able to share your photos easily. That is improved in Sparkle Snapshots 3D at the very least thanks to Swapnote and such, and on top of that Sparkle Snapshots 3D looks like it has a lot of other improvements over the original, so I'm curious as to why they received the same score.
Not that it really matters much to me, as I could care less about review scores, but there's no doubt that a lot of people put a lot of weight on review scores, and that could lead to people not checking out this cool app. I'm sure a lot of people already aren't going to touch it because it's too girly for them, but if you can look past that it seems like a very good camera app for anyone. You don't have to use any of the girly stuff if you don't want to (though I know it's kinda hard since that's most of what's available, though there's always the opportunity for more gender neutral themes via DLC).

@ThomasBW84 But why do you expect social network integration from this app when no other 3DS app has that kind of integration? The closest there is is Colors! 3D with its Colors! Gallery, which works for Colors! 3D, but I don't think a Purikura app needs a gallery like that. I dunno, I just don't see why the lack of an "upload to Facebook" button hurts the score so much. The photos you create are still perfectly sharable. Besides, I would imagine that Swapnote would be the ideal way to share your photos, not social network sites, because people will be able to view your photos in 3D on Swapnote, but not on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

@zelda_4_life Why, just because its primary target audience is girls? Doesn't mean it can't still be a good app.

Does Swapnote not count as a way to share your photos with friends? Seems like that was totally overlooked in this review... And yeah, it's not exactly that hard to upload something from the 3DS's browser, either.

@L4DYB4NSH33 They're not "doing" anything, it's already been done!

Tyeforce commented on Nintendo Patents Improvements for 3DS Download...:
THIS IS AN OLD PATENT!! THE 3DS ALREADY DOES THIS!
Your 3DS will store the last game you played via Download Play on your SD card so the next time you go to play, you'll download it instantly. That saved data will be overwritten anytime you play a new Download Play title, though, and it only saves the most recent one.
Also, system updates are already transferable over Download Play. I've updated a friend's 3DS via Mario Kart 7 before.

"It also appears that this new graphical style will sometimes make it difficult to tell what is and isn't a platform."
@BulbasaurusRex That's what the 3D is for... There should be no problem telling what is and isn't a platform with the added sense of depth.
