Re: Movies you dislike that most like

Tony_342

Aliens. Everybody seems to agree that this is a "classic." I've never cared for it. I love Alien. Alien IS a classic. It's an extremely well-made, suspenseful, intelligent sci-fi thriller with great acting, great characters, and the best movie monster ever created. Aliens, however, is a low-budget, cheesy, B-grade, crappy 80's action movie with amateurish dialog and sub-par acting. There are some movies that fit that description that I actually enjoy. But for some reason, I just have never cared for Aliens. Maybe because it just doesn't compare well to the first one (as far as my personal taste in movies goes).

Re: No E3 press conference for Nintendo....

Tony_342

Either way, we will still be reading about and watching videos of a bunch of new games that will get revealed around E3. Except now, we will have all that information given to us in a much more concise, much less boring way. This is nothing but good news.

Re: No E3 press conference for Nintendo....

For those of us who watch and read about E3 on the internet, this really won't make that much difference. Unless you're there in person, the only difference will be that we will get a Nintendo Direct video that talks all about upcoming Wii U software without having to listen to a bunch of financial reports, sales numbers, and various CEOs lying through their teeth about how committed they are about supporting Nintendo.

Re: Gameboy MICRO (new)

Tony_342

Wow. I bought a brand new Micro just a few months ago (October) from Amazon and it was $115 including shipping. I'm surprised to see that in just the last few months, the most reasonable prices (on Amazon) have risen to between $200 and $300. I'm glad I bought mine when I did. You wouldn't think that something that's been out for several years would jump significantly in price in just a few months. They must be getting really, really rare.

Re: Old GBA gems

I will also suggest Drill Dozer. It's probably the best thing Game Freak has ever done (I am not a Pokemon fan). And even though you probably know about them, I think that Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission are the two best games on the system. I bought a brand new GBA Micro for $120 a few months ago because I still play those two games quite often (even though I've beaten them several times). Banjo Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge is a pretty decent little game. If you like Super Monkey Ball, then Super Monkey Ball Jr. is pretty impressive. I will also add Medal of Honor: Infiltrator to this list, as I was surprised by how good it is. You might expect it to be an FPS, but it isn't. It plays like a cross between those old top-down shooters and the original 8-bit Metal Gear games. It's a great little handheld action game.

Re: ATV Wild Ride 3D is released! It is very fun!

Tony_342

@Knuckles Yeah, Canada is definitely a bit glitchy. If you hit any of the walls at a decent speed, it has a habit of resetting you in the middle of the track. It was pretty frustrating the first couple times I played it. But honestly, I now prefer Canada over a few of the other tracks. I think it requires a bit more skill than the others, and I've gotten good enough at it that I've run through it several times now without a single problem.

I almost didn't buy this game (I'm a fan of Renegade Kid, but not a big fan of racing games). I finally decided to get it late one night while browsing the eShop, and I'm glad I did. I've been playing it a lot more than I thought I would. I've found that most people's complaints about track design are easily remedied by actually being good at the game. It requires more skill than you might think!

I have a question, though. Has anyone else unlocked the Bomb Monkey character (you have to get Gold in all 6 World Tours)? Because in my copy of the game, the Bomb Monkey character looks exactly like the unlockable Mutant Mudds character. It seems like a glitch (missing or mis-matched textures, perhaps) to me. All the other characters have distinct clothing and helmets. The Mutant Mudds character has Max on his shirt and helmet ... and so does the Bomb Monkey character. I figured he would have the monkey from Bomb Monkey on his shirt or something.

Re: Games you disliked that everybody else liked.

Another vote for LittleBigPlanet. That is one of the most boring, dull, lifeless games I've ever played. I still can't believe the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences awarded it Game of the Year 2008.

I'll add Okami to this list. The graphics are gorgeous, but the gameplay and story just left me bored, uninterested, lost, and confused. That's one of the very, very few games I bought but didn't finish. I played it for 20 hours or so, and kept thinking, "It's gotta pick up soon, right?" I've never waited for a game to "get good" for so long (and it never did, in my opinion). Maybe I was just disappointed because the game seemed like it had a lot of untapped potential. But it seems to me that If it wasn't such a beautiful game, I don't think anybody would have payed it much attention.

Grand Theft Auto IV. Possibly the most critically overrated game ever. Not a bad game, really, but it just made me miss the days of GTA III and Vice City. Back when the series was actually fun to play and didn't strive for an overly poignant story. It seems like Rockstar was trying to win an Academy Award instead of just making a fun game.

Re: Best N64 graphics????

Tony_342

A couple years ago, I bought Star Wars: Rogue Squadron for cheap on eBay. I have a 4MB memory expansion pak in my N64, so the game automatically runs in "high resolution" mode. I was amazed at how good that game still looks - surprisingly sharp and detailed. (It also sounds amazing.)
