I would be seriously broke if Nintendo had some sort of NFC toys to go along with Smash Bros. I can't see them doing it other than to unlock special new characters, but I would spend all my money on the figures.

And it's totally not like Nintendo to rip off another game like Skylanders, but imagine a Smash Bros spin off 3D adventure game with collectible figures like Skylanders. That would be brilliant. Plus an awesome way for Nintendo to start making some money again. I'm hoping E3 will not be a disappointment this year.

TheAdza commented on Super Smash Bros. Hitting 3DS This Summer, Wii...:

I've changed my mind on this issue a bit. I recognise that Nintendo are in a damned if they do/don't situation. Releasing together would cannibalise sales of each other. Releasing the Wii U version first and the 3DS later seems like the best option to sell more Wii U consoles, but would anger 3DS only players. Doing it like they are, they are pleasing 3DS and Smash Bros players, and any most of the core Nintendo fans who will end up getting both versions, but ultimately lose any new Wii U customers that a simultaneous or earlier release would bring. There is a downside to all of the options, but the one they are doing is probably has probably the best outcome financially for them, even though it has angered myself and other gamers alike.

It still feels like a slap in the face when even Nintendo don't prioritise their Wii U games over the more popular 3DS. It's one thing to get shafted by 3rd parties for more popular and better selling consoles, it's in a whole different league when Nintendo do it to us.

If Nintendos next system isn't a handheld hybrid home console, all of this BS could be avoided. Plus we could have more games than we could shake a stick at if Nintendo don't have to divide their resources between two totally different systems. Instead of teams working on Mario Kart 7 and then Mario Kart 8 in the space of a couple of years, and the same for NSMB2 and then NSMBU only a short while later, and I guess the same for SM3DLand and World were pretty close as well. One game per series, leaving the teams free to make different and newer games. Plus who here wouldn't like to be playing Zelda one month, then Pokemon the next, and then Mario the next, then Fire Emblem the next, and so on, all on the one hybrid console that plays on your TV and be portable? That's the dream.

TheAdza commented on Super Smash Bros. Hitting 3DS This Summer, Wii...:

Stupid stupid move Nintendo. Wow. Anyone that might have been waiting for this game to pick up a Wii U will now simply get the 3DS version instead. And to the core fans, who will buy the 3DS version first, what incentive is their to buy the Wii U version. My neck is sore from shaking my head so much.

TheAdza commented on Hardware Classics: Sega Saturn:

@sdelfin Exactly how I feel. There are times when the spark is there. But it's not often enough anymore with modern games. Which is why these days I play Nintendo games and systems more so than Sony or Microsoft consoles. If there is going to be that magic moment, it's more commonly found on a Nintendo system in my opinion.

TheAdza commented on Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This...:

After the Saturn article here at Nintendo Life, I've been playing some Fighters Megamix, Sega Rally, and Virtua Cop 2, plus some NiGHTS HD on the PS3. I've also been playing some NES Remix taking turns with my son. Also just to round it out after the announcement of a SSB Direct, I've been playing some Brawl, plus I downloaded Inazuma Eleven on my 3DS and started that. Not very far into it yet, but so far it's not too bad.

TheAdza commented on Hardware Classics: Sega Saturn:

I had two Saturns, both PAL, but as I couldn't find anyone in Australia to mod my first one to play Japanese and American games, I sent it over to the UK to be done. Turnaround time? 6 weeks. 2 weeks into that, I went out and bought another one. I just couldn't be without it. Dark Saviour, NiGHTS, Sega Rally, Fighting Vipers and later Fighters Megamix, Burning Rangers, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Marvel Super Heroes, VF Kids, Virtua Cop 1 and 2, those games were amazing. I only ever ended up buying 2 Japanese games. X-Men vs Street Fighter, and Radiant Silvergun. Totally worth it. And to think, I still haven't had the pleasure of playing Panzer Dragoon Saga or any of the Shining games on the system, and I still rate it as my second most played system ever, the first being Dreamcast, although technically my PS3 has had a workout since I bought it, as it has been my main media player for the last 6 years and still is.

At the moment, my most used consoles of all time stand at:

Dreamcast (mainly because of PSO but I have 34 other awesome games for it, although it no longer works)

Saturn. I loved the arcades. So this system was awesome for me.

PS1. I have eclectic collection of popular and weird games for it from PaRappa and Bust a Groove, to Resident Evils and Spyro's and Tekkens. Soul Blade was epic. FFVII and IX were standouts.

Wii. Of course it is. Wii Sports alone stole many hours of fun as well as Mario Kart and the Galaxy games.

PS2, Megadrive, PS3 ( for actual gaming ) SNES, Master System, Xbox, Xbox360, N64 in that order round out my list of most played to least. I haven't worked out where Wii U is now. Still too early to tell. But it's already higher up than the PS2. Which is pretty high by my book. And I didn't include handhelds, which I really didn't get into until I got my DSlite. I had owned a GBC and GameGear, but I never played them a great deal so I missed out on the GBA era of games. But my 3DS is just about my most played handheld now, and I'm even contemplating getting a Vita because of its weirder and great games. Trying to get back that feeling of loving great games again, because I feel like I am growing out of it. I don't want to, but games these days generally aren't going where my love for them started out from. It's good to see a resurgence in platformers, but where are the big RPGs, the arcade racers, the fighting games? Everything seems to be open world this, or MMO that, or online only here and first person shooter there.

I miss the days of the Saturn. In fact, I might go play some Saturn now. Grab out the old big blue light gun and shoot some robbers in VC2. I bet I need another internal battery for it again. All save game data lost! Haha. The good old days.

TheAdza commented on Preview: Mario Kart 8:

Really looking forward to this, however I am deeply saddened by the lack of Gamepad options. Playing Sonic Racing Transformed in two player with one player using the TV and another using the Gamepad was brilliant. Surely if Sega could pull it off, why can't Nintendo? Probably something to do with the engine and it being locked at 60fps. Even so, i would settle for 30fps in two player Gamepad and TV combo. It just works so well having your own screen. I get that the games graphics are probably so intense that the 5 player option like in Sonic Transformed could be an issue, but there really shouldn't be a problem with the two player TV/Gamepad combo. This is likely to be Nintendos biggest game of 2014, and just like DKCTF, it looks like it's going to lack any type of meaningful Gamepad functionality, when in reality, both of these games should be pushing for unique and fun uses for the much maligned controller.

It could be a permanent rear view mirror, it could display map and weapon info, it could show your friends POV when playing online.

This should be the game to showcase the Gamepad. Oh Nintendo, what are you doing?

TheAdza commented on Features: The Biggest 3DS Games of 2014 - Spri...:

I'm really only looking forward to Tomodachi Collection and Kirby Triple Deluxe on the 3DS as far as full priced 1st party retail games go. I'm sure there will be a few eShop only games that will fill the rather large void. I'd settle for a 3DS drought as long as the games were coming thick and fast on the Wii U but that doesn't seem to be the case. It's going to be a bit of a boring year this year.

3DS wish list for this year. A FTP FZero, Pokemon Z or lots of Pokemon XY DLC, Dragon Quest 7.

Can't wait for this. I lived and breathed the world of the original game on PS1 as a teenager. It was so original in its designs for the time. Still is quite unique. And being more of a puzzler instead of an action platformer helped me branch out of my comfort zone of gaming. I will be buying this on Wii U for sure.

TheAdza commented on Report Suggests That June Could Be Crucial For...:

It's pretty clear what Nintendo have to do to survive while staying out of the smartphone world. The 3DS and Wii U generation for them has been a disaster compared to the DS and Wii generation. Making any kind of profit out of the Wii U hardware is not likely to happen at all, so why waste all this time trying to sell it at its current price? Just slash it, sell it at about half the cost price, get that install base huge, sell it to mums on TV shopping channels, and try and make it not have such a bad name for itself. Because if it continues this way, no one will buy the next generation of Nintendo console(s).

Also, screw the 3rd parties. Nintendo have to be able to not rely on them. Spend the cash reserves and buy up big on dev teams. Churn out heaps more quality first party stuff. That would have got the userbase up had Nintendo prepared for the Wii U launch with more of their own games coming in every month instead of relying on the 3rd parties to let them down. If they do this for the next console, 3rd parties will come in droves. I'm not saying to make it hard for 3rd parties to come to the system, it should be a very easy and cheap to do so, but they shouldn't be out courting companies to fill in their own huge gaps in the line up only for companies like Ubisoft to royally screw them over with the likes of Rayman, and now WatchDogs, and EA with outdated ports and missing features.

They need to get the hardcore off their case. Here's how. Stop producing underperforming machines. It worked with the Wii. It won't work again. The core gamers that want to play Nintendo games won't because the other big games from other companies won't come out on Nintendo systems due to a lack of power. Keep up Nintendo or you will fade like Sega did. Also, for gods sake get a proper account based system for online purchases ASAP and cross play on VC games. Also the included HDD space in a Wii U is laughable.

No one wants to be the guy with the smallest penis in the locker room. But that's exactly the situation Nintendo have put themselves in. There isn't even a lot of motion in this blue ocean to make up for it. There are a few great games yes, but it has taken way too long to get here. And by crikey there should have been at least 3 or 4 times as many must have games by now than what the Wii U has. Racing games, fighting games, 1st and 3rd person action games, RPGs, jrpgs, all genres that the Wii U doesn't have much of.

I play my Wii U a lot. But I am a fan. Anyone who isn't with all these faults the system and company has, it really is no surprise that no one outside of the core Ninty fans is buying the Wii U. The only one surprised seems to be Iwata. I don't want him to go, but trying to bottle the lightning of the DS and the Wii and do it again with the 3DS and Wii U was a huge mistake. Sure, if smartphones and tablets didn't take off like they did, the 3DS and Wii U would probably have gone alright. But Iwata didn't see that coming, or did see it, but thought he knew better. While I don't want to see Nintendo go mobile, perhaps someone that can work with this new and changed market and foresee ways to deal with it better should be in charge. I really don't think mariokart 8 will change much. Not will Smash Bros. They will be great games no doubt, but not enough to save the Wii U. So much potential just not realised with this system. Such a pity.

Can't wait for this game. I'm a bit over the argument for same sex coupling for this game, because as much as I am all for gay marriage, the reality is Nintendo don't need any more negative press against them, which is exactly what they will get from conservative news outlets.

My opinion is it should be included and that children should be exposed to as many different family types as possible and it should all be a non event, just a normal thing. It would help stop bullying and help create a more tolerant society. Sadly, Nintendo aren't there yet. But it won't stop me enjoying the game for what it is. Hope it's released soon.

No game has made me feel the way that game made me feel. And I don't think it will be any time soon if ever that a game will move me and make me feel the same way again. A totally unique experience, and I'm glad I bought it. Sure it has like zero replayability, but that was the point, or at least that's what I took away from it.

TheAdza commented on Expect Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty To Cost Around ...:

I'll be buying it. The original Abe was my favourite ps1 game. I'd love nothing more than to play it again with the much needed updated graphics. I used to watch the cutscenes over and over and wished that some company like Dreamworks or Pixar would make a whole movie based on the Oddworld presented in those games. Abe was just such a good character.

TheAdza commented on Talking Point: Important Steps to Bring the 3D...:

If Nintendo can't unify Wii/Wii U/3DS VC games now, then they shouldn't be selling them at such a high price. Then people wouldn't have that much to complain about. Like most Nintendo fans, I am sick of the constant and relentless negativity toward them, but I'm not so blind as to realise they have put themselves into the position to be crucified by fans, critics, and everyone else for not going into the 3DS and Wii U generation with what has become standard features for years like account based systems. I thought that feature would come with the "making the Wii U faster" update that never came, or the "Miiverse for 3DS" that was so gimped that it's basically useless version of Miiverse with the only benefit that we can now share money between systems. I really am having a wait and see approach to the next round of Nintendo console(s). I usually buy straight away at launch, but faster the 3DS launch and price drop fiasco, and the continuing free fall of the Wii U into almost certain doom, I won't be an early adopter next time unless they get their heads out of the sand and join the 21st century. As much as I do love Nintendo and their games and consoles, they rightly deserve every attack they get because they just are doing too many things wrong and backwards and being very anti consumer at a time when they need it most. It's completely baffling.

TheAdza commented on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Only Sell...:

I would like a sequel too, but in saying that, now that most of the hard work is done with creating the game, perhaps another team could handle making the game.

Also, I think I am going to be very tired of 2D platformers very soon. Id like to see some more variety from Nintendo first party games. We have been saturated in Mario games, and now 2D platformers are starting to outstay their welcome. These games are what Nintendo does best, and the quality shines in all of them, but i think it's time the great Nintendo play it more risky, and try some new genres and create new franchises that can be grown and nurtured alongside Mario, Zelda, DK, Smash Bros and Mario Kart, oh and Kirby, can't forget Kirby.

TheAdza commented on Watch_Dogs Delayed Again on Wii U, Will Arrive...:

I've had it in for ubisoft ever since the Rayman debacle. Watchdogs looked like the end of that for me as it was looking good, and promised features in the Wii U version that could shine with the gamepad. And now they have done this. Hypocrites. Won't release Rayman on Wii U first as they wanted a simultaneous release for all consoles, but now apparently it's fine to leave the Wii U version until later. Well guess what Ubisoft, now I won't be buying the game at all on any system. I'm aware that Nintendo is party to blame for not boosting the sales of its system, but purely out of principle, just like I boycotted Rayman on any system, and other Ubi games since, I will be voting with my wallet again and not buying this game. Ubisoft can't say it's ok to delay the Wii U version of one game to coincide with other versions, but then be ok to delay Wii U games on other occasions. It's wrong, and I won't support such practices, despite the fact that I know the Wii U needs much needed 3rd party game sales, I just won't do it. It's not fair, and we shouldn't be treated as such if they want their games to succeed on all platforms, then they should treat all platforms fairly. Ubisoft has failed at doing that numerous times now, so no money for you Ubisoft!!

I can't say I'm excited for more MH. Id like to be, but after Tri on the Wii, and the Demos on both 3DS and Wii U, the game just isn't for me. Unless they completely overhaul the combat system, I'm not interested in it. It's just a cumbersome beast that I can't get my head around it. It's such a shame. I was a huge PSO fan and can see the type of grinding and stuff could be fun, but I just can't do the controls. I hate them. I don't get them. They aren't intuitive to me. Oh Sega please bring a PSO sequel to Wii U. Even a remake would be fantastic.

TheAdza commented on Nintendo of America Issues Refunds After Warne...:

Second class citizens again. Why buy the Wii U version when the other versions of the game on other Consoles aren't gimped? Nope. Not gonna support companies who don't go all in. What a joke Nintendo are becoming. They can't do a thing right. I hate it. I hate that my favourite company is just screwing things up constantly. I hate it!!! But I'm not going to start supporting gimped versions of games just to do my part when I can just as easily get the same game on my PS3 and get all the features and DLC. Fix the problem Nintendo. It's not hard. Slash the price of the Wii U, halve it even. Just do something instead of talking about it. And release pokemon bank for gods sake.

It shouldn't be taking this long. Why are we constantly getting the same old old old old NES games for 3DS and Wii U instead of some more different and unique GBA and DS games? It's stupid that it's taking so long.

TheAdza commented on Level-5 Trademarks Yo-kai Watch in the US:

More level 5 can only be a good thing. I hope it comes to the west regions, along with Fantasy Life. The 3DS will need some big hitters this year to keep up momentum. So far Kirby seems to be the only thing worthwhile coming.

TheAdza commented on Rune Factory 4 European Release Has Been Cance...:

Region lock equals pissed off gamers, and gamers are the only ones who will buy Nintendo consoles of late. Even then it's a stretch for them to lay down money for a Wii U or 3DS. Having said that, this isn't a game I'm interested in. But there are a lot of games that I am interested in that never make it over. Region lock sucks.

TheAdza commented on Nintendo Has "Great Games" But Is Facing A "St...:

The structure problem is having their first party teams working on two different consoles, in the current sense, the Wii U and 3DS. Things aren't the same as back in the DS and Wii days where there was a lot more 3rd party support, even when a lot of it was shovelware. There isn't even that now, not really. If all their 1st party teams were focused on making games for one console, their wouldn't be software droughts, plain and simple. We still probably wouldn't get some huge AAA 3rd party games, but it wouldn't matter if there was a big 1st party game coming out every month or 6 weeks or so. They either have to go the way of Sega and go software only, which I don't want, or buy up a lot of developers and/or pay publishing for a LOT of games, not just
dribs and drabs like now, which is a costly venture not guaranteed for success but an excellent way of having a stable flow of software to drive hardware, or bow out of home console and try to survive in the handheld arena, which is where they excel, but is a shrinking market, or have a true hybrid home console/handheld console coming in the future.

TheAdza commented on We Cannot Continue Without Winning, But It's N...:

They could always do what Sega did, and by that I don't mean to software only. I mean they went and got their own major sport franchises through 1st and 2nd party efforts. The 2K sport series was born on the dreamcast, and look how popular it is now? Visual Concepts took on EA Sports and really made some solid NBA and NFL games that were noticeably superior to the NBA Live and Madden series of games at the time that were becoming quite stale. Before that, Sega had their own Soccer series on the Saturn that was quite good as well. It didn't go so well in the end for Sega, we all know that, but they never had the money in the back either that Ninty does.

So many things that are possible to do to reverse their fortunes, but Nintendo constantly swing the other way. We need to be able to make friends with whomever we choose online without having to go to forums for friend codes. I can't even comment on miiverse to randoms on 3DS. It's a joke. They are a laughing stock.

TheAdza commented on Iwata Accepts Responsibility For Poor Financia...:

The great Nintendo problem. Not enough 3rd party support. Great 1st party games, spread too thin between handheld and home consoles. The solution without backing out of either market is simple. The next cycle of hardware from Nintendo should be a true hybrid of handheld and home console. How they can do it I have no idea. Perhaps they could go the PS4 + Vita way except that the hardware inside should be identical, so games will work either at home or on the go, but it may be slightly cost prohibitive. Or perhaps it could be the opposite of what the Wii U does, with all hardware inside the next Gamepad like handheld device, and another device attached to a TV that merely streams what is playing on the pad back to the TV. It would be cheaper than the first option, but would also i think be more limited in what could be done hardware wise with graphics and sound etc.

In any case, going this route could be their saviour. All releases will be for the "one" console family. We could finally have our pokemon on the big screen at home as well as on the go. Streetpass would still be a thing. Second screen gaming could still be thing. Going to a friends place to play Nintendo? Take your 4DS Gamepad to hook up the main system. True two or more player 2nd screen gaming. The 1st party devs could focus on creating one Mario, one Mario kart, one LoZ, and various other franchises for one console instead of two, so many more 1st party games would get released and the software droughts would lessen. If 3rd parties were still not keen on joining up with Nintendo for yet another generation, it wouldn't seem so bad with so much 1st party software being released. Now obviously some games will be better suited to home or handheld use, some adjusting will have to be made, but ultimately it will be up to the consumer to decide. How good would it be to be able to buy SM3DW on disc, pop it into the home console, and if you want to take it on the go with you, you could just download it onto the handheld and away you go.

As it is though, Nintendo will just have to ride out the Wii U's lacklustre performance. I still love my Wii U, but it's still the potential it has that I like more than what it actually does. The graphics can be quite good, but I'm not going to buy a 3rd party game on Wii U that is worse graphically than PS3 or XBox 360. I never expected it to be on par with the new consoles, but I expected it to be better than last gen. It's quite pricey for what it is. Miiverse is great but it's sooooo slow. Miiverse on the 3DS is so gimped i wouldn't miss it if it went. It's unusable to me. Switching between games and the home screen is still slow on the Wii U. I should be able so chat with friends, even video chat friends on the Gamepad while I play a game. No instant messaging that doesn't require switching out of the game to Miiverse. It should just pop up on the TV of Gamepad. Still no 2nd Gamepad option. It won't ever come because it would tax the outdated hardware too much and games will look horrible. 32gb internal storage? What is with that? There are soooooo many games I would get if the hard drive space was just automatically there. I shouldn't have to go out and buy yet another add on. It should just be included in the box. So many many mistakes, so many limitations, still no proper account system for gods sake. It's a shamble. And you know, I can put up with a lot of stuff, but I'm not the one Nintendo need to convince to buy their systems. It's everyone else, who can just go out and buy another system that runs rings around them with hardware, graphics, 3rd party games, social networks and online stuff, larger hard drives etc. They don't get the Nintendo exclusive games of course, but they have their own big hitting franchises, and to get a next gen system for not much more than a Wii U, that can do all the things it can't, it's very enticing.

So like I say, ride out the Wii U for another 2 years, make the next console a true handheld home console hybrid, have a ton of 1st party titles coming that won't be stretched too thin between two consoles, have hardware on par or better than xb1/ps4, a proper account system, and if it succeeds then the 3rd parties will come back too. It might be a big gamble, but I don't think Nintendo will survive another slow to take off handheld AND another home console that will inevitably do the same. If what they say is their business, selling hardware and then make megatons of money selling their software in that closed environment, I truly believe that having only one console to concentrate on will help a lot with their core business. Think about software that is released for both of these systems now, like Pokemon XY, 3D World, luigi's mansion 2, Pikmin 3, Scribblenauts, Call of Duty, Assassins Creed 4, Mario Kart, Fire Emblem, Bravely Default, Sonic Lost World, Paper Mario, Mario Party, Lego City Undercover to name just a few really excellent games released on both 3DS and Wii U. If those games were on a console that was just on two years old that would be a killer system.

This is my personal dream for Nintendo, but knowing them they will have something totally unexpected coming next. I just hope it's not as big a flop as the Wii U has been thus far.

Account system, lower prices on tired old NES games, some more recent consoles would be nice as well. Bring the Gamecube games already.

The VC is pretty lame at the moment. It had it's day i believe on the Wii. Much more is needed to make it succeed in its own right, and Nintendo either aren't interested or dont have the man power to justify the work needed for such a service. It's a shame, but with less work on the VC, surely some more is being done to beef up the actual Wii U game library.

I love the Wii U, but it isnt going to sell until Nintendo turn it around with some more modern thinking.

TheAdza commented on Review: Disney Infinity (Wii U):

I might jump in. Kind of got over Skylanders. But the until the few issues with the Wii U version are patched out, I'm not going to get it. I am in fact leaning more towards Swap Force anyway due to already having a good amount of figures, and the Disney franchises so far for Infinity don't really appeal to me. Perhaps cars does, but if this was Lion King or Up or Wall E, I'd be down to get some figures and playsets of those.

TheAdza commented on We're Getting Digital Right On 3DS And Wii U, ...:

They have gotten better, that's for sure, but I would rather have my on board memory large from the start, and then also have the option to expand or upgrade. 32GB is just too small. If it were 60 or even 80 at the start, that would have been the perfect option for the deluxe model, and 32 for the regular SKU.

No account system is still a bad move in my opinion and many many others. Without it, we won't see the Nintendo digital business take off into the stratosphere like we have seen with Steam. People won't trust it enough to lay down a large sum of money on something locked to a system. It's not fair, and it is anti consumer. And if Nintendo want to stay in the game, and lead it, they will have to embrace the industry norm. Or at least have something different and better in place. A cross platform VC wouldn't go astray either.

No, Nintendo haven't got their digital business anywhere near "right". It's not entirely bad, but its just not good enough. Nintendo used to lead the way. And while it remains true in some ways, everything to do with online and digital is very very far behind.

What a stupid and ugly and pointless piece of trash, which will only hurt them with marketing and brand confusion even further.

"SOME GAME out now on Nintendo 3DS and 2DS, but not the DS that is 2D, or the DSi or DSiXL, no it's for the new 3DS and 3DSXL which are 3D and also the 2DS which plays 3DS games in 2D only"

TheAdza commented on Wii U Hardware Still Being Sold At A Loss:

@Shadowkiller97 hey you don't have to sell me on the idea. I love it. It's the average person who hasn't bought the Wii U that takes a look at it, and only sees what it can't do instead of what it can. And the list of what it can't do compared to other consoles is pretty extensive. Pinch to zoom is the standard motion for touchscreen displays now. I don't know what place it has in games, and i am used to not using it when I use the Gamepad as a browsing device, but anyone who tries the Gamepad like that, the first thing they do is try to to pinch to zoom and it doesn't work.
