I probably missed some games, but my list intentionally does not include any Sports/Party/Racing/Fighting/Dance genres.
Patcher and all the rest of you nay-sayers can "shove it." Nintendo will prove them wrong at last!
And if Nintendo goes back to being the underdog, I'm okay with that as there were tons of great games on N64 and Game Cube, and the great games will continue, whether Nintendo is underdog or top dawg!
The more you play with the gamepad, the more you realize just how awesome it is. It felt akward gaming with it for maybe 15-20 minutes, then I'm like, "where have you been all my life!?"
One thing that concerns me is if Nintendo is really giving enough thought to the single player campain. For instance, worlds need to have at least a few secret exits to allow hidden worlds or even warps in the game. New Super Mario Brothers U did a good job in this regard. Peach, Luigi, and Toad all have special abilities that could make a particular exit, path, or bonus item only accessible to specific characters, so I hope Nintendo utilizes their unique abilities. 3D Land was a good game, but overall was far too linear, with no secret exits and worlds felt like obstacle courses rather than giant playgrounds like in M64 and Sunshine. I don't think Nintendo will ever top the Galaxy games, and I still long for a return to free-world exploration in 3D.
Reggie my man,you are an absolute genius! Who would have thought: I have never sold back Mario Galaxy, or any of the Karting games. Occasionaloly I might sell a spinoff, but overall, I gotta have my first party titles. Even if it's been a while since I've played a particular game, say for instance Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door or Mario Sunshine on the Game Cube, I keep it in my collection knowing that it's great and if I ever get the urge to play it again, it will be right there waiting for me. Honestly, some third party games are just "meh" and if it doesn't hold interest, I sell it back. This applies to current games and retro too, but I always try to buy current generation games new to support the publisher and beef up my Club Nintendo Reward Points. Reward Points are another huge incentive to buy new.
Will we ever get another 3D Mario game with free-roaming exploration? Most of the levels in Mario 64 and Sunshine were basically gigantic playgrounds. IMO Super Mario 3D Land and the upcoming 3D World feel too linear IMO. Still an insta-buy and kudos for Nintendo for reuniting the old SMB2 cast.
A handful of worlds in the Galaxy series featured free-roaming areas (like honey hive galaxy and beach bowl galaxy, for instance), and those turned out to be some of my favorite levels. Also sad that Rosalina will probably not be making any return appearances.
First five minutes I kept refreshing the page and it wouldn't load. Then Lag, lag, lag...
The halfway through the Zelda video, it jumped directly into a 101 footage. I have no idea how much content was missed interim. After that, mostly smooth sailing...
Issues aside, Mario Kart and 3D World look awesome. I love the idea of the cat powerup, and playing as Peach as well. Hopefully we can use the extra characters without multiplayer.
Good. That means I'm not driving 95 miles to play a couple of demos. I still don't get why Tyler, Tx gets demos and Shreveport, La doesn't. Shreveport is twice the size of Tyler, and that number expands to triple the population size when you include Bossier City and the surrounding rural areas.
I saw this on the documentary special features. Thor is truly amazing btw!
I made it to level 25 or 26 with Tetris DX on my Game Boy Color, but that game had the new "modern" mechanic where you could slide a brick around for a fraction of a second before it got "stuck". I never made it past about level 13 on NES Tetris. I always loved playing the Tengen version more with the Russian dancers!
People are really getting their undies in a bunch over the Wii-U, not to single out anyone specifically. Despite it's shortcomings, it's a great console, people!
MS and Sony are the real ones with their heads shoved into a hole somewhere like an ostrich buries it's head in the ground. (not saying where the "hole" is, but it's not the ground!)
Each generation there's a race to cram a 300-watt supercomputer into a box with the same basic controller with minor upgrades. Worse yet, they're throwing in DRM, constant online requirements, and bans on used games at no cost. Oh, and it streams tv shows and movies as well. So does a last gen Wii box with a Netflix subscirption!
Been waiting a long time for this. Sorry, I jumped ship and downloaded this baby for Ouya. Shame for not releasing this sooner, but the Ouya is now my official Pinball Arcade headquarters.
Microsoft did more than shoot themselves in the foot: they blew off their entire leg! This is the one console I'm actually looking forward to seeing "Smash my _____" videos of!
Another zombie game? Seriously, wtf is up with all these Zombie games? I wasn't even interested in Zombie-U, which btw looked a million times better than this turd based on the screenshot.
@QuickSilver88 do you have a source for your claim? I have an NES reproduction of DK: Complete Edition. I made it to the fourth barrel stage once but I died. However, it should be interesting to see how the "Pie" level stacks up with save states. People who are way better at DK than I am have expressed complaints that the Pie stage is impossible at later stages of the game.
I already had Super Star and Dream Land 3 on Wii VC, so Dream Course was a bonus. I don't particularly give two flips about a golf game, and Kirby's Avalanche would have been more interesting IMO, but don't look a gift horse in the mouth. $3 for 3 titles ain't half bad! Hopefully Nintendo can keep up 3+ VC titles per week like the glory days of Wii VC. As an added bonus, when you hit that boss you just can't beat, save states are your friend.
Just one question: will N64 titles ever see the light of day?
"Which of the "next-gen" systems do you plan to own? (493 votes)" You forgot about Ouya. I certainly hope that the "little console that could" doesn't get orphaned before it even comes to market.
I certainly hope this comes to Shreveport, La because I'm not driving to Dallas or Baton Rouge just to play some demos.
Edit: I hope they also give an option to download demos on home consoles in case people don't have a participating Best Buy in their area. Best part about the program though is it will give people an opportunity to experience the games who don't already own a Wii-U. Nintendo desparately needs to ship more units and anything that increases public awareness is a good idea. Maybe some 3rd party devs will change their mind about Wii-U support, but at least there appears to be a good selection of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd party titles coming out.
EDIT: CRAP, MAN, TYLER, TX GETS AN E3 DEMO, BUT IT'S 97 MILES AWAY, GRRRR... SHREVEPORT IS OVER TWICE THE POPULATION OF TYLER, WHAT THE HECK!!!
In real life, you miss a deadline and they foreclose on your house. In Animal Crossing, if you should decide to be a bum and just sit and stare at the daisies all day, there's no pressure.
Sorry, I think I'll stick to Police chases and arresting bad guys. Riding a Tyrannosaurs Rex through Lego City is far more awesome than a social or pet simulator!
I find it fascinating that when someone hacks, emulates or creates homebrew game for a vintage gaming console, they are congratulated by the community, but when they do something of a similar nature for a modern console, they are completely shunned by the same gaming community. And add the point that modern consoles are a lot more difficult to hack and develop for than the old 8-bit throwbacks.
LOL. My PC rig uses an octo-core AMD processor, stock clocked at 3.6Ghz, turbo up to 4.2Ghz. Performance was limited to keep the prcessor within it's thermal design limit, but in fact all 8 CPUs can and will run stable at 4.2Ghz. I set the default clock rate to 4.2Ghz, disabled turbo-clocking and APM, and boom, I get a 4.2Ghz machine that can run stable at max load on all cores at 4.2Ghz. It pulled around 90 watts idling; 300 watts under the stress test, meaning my 125W processor was exceeding 210 watts, but that doesn't matter because I have a big-arse heat sink on it. Also I've got thermally controlled fans so it's whisper quiet on idle but sounds like the Indy-500 when the CPU is maxed out. However, there's no giant heat sink on the Wii-U processor, so overclocking it would likely create an overheating situation similar to the heat problem that caused the early RROD deaths on most of the model 1 Xbox360s. Thanks but no thanks, if an overclocked processor leads to eventual failure of the console. And yeah, unless they somehow figure out some way to attach a 3x3 inch heatsink brick to the Wii-U (which would likely involve cutting a rectangular hole on top of the console to make room for the massive heat-sink), I'm calling BS on the 3.24 Ghz figure. Greater than 2x speed on any stock-clocked processor is likely BS in my book.
The Wii-U may have been slightly under-clocked to maintain a certain thermal design rating, but exceeding the thermal design limit without a sufficient cooling system is a nono. That's why all mobile tech (DS, ipad, etc) are inherently underclocked. MS and Sony may have pulled this OC'ing crap (which is why the launch models of the PS3/360 both had heat issues which were not resolved until fab tech gave them a smaller die process which allowed the production of low-power "slim" models), but Nintendo knows better than to sacrifice performance for durability.
