@KnightRider666 System settings manual page 20. It is written right there. Why would Nintendo lie in their own manual. From a memory management perspective in programming it is a very important thing to do (it you could have more icons than memory to load them in you can into nasty segmentation faults and other bugs).

@2Sang Memory allocations for icons. They all load at once so that is the space limit here. Possibly for the data management screen in system settings as much as the system menu (I'll get to that).

@KnightRider666 Considering page 20 of the system settings manual where the 300 limit is mentioned talk abouts the data management screen there are 2 things that don't appear on that screen but would appear on the system menu:
-DSiWare
-Bulit-in stuff (eShop, System settings, face raiders, mii plaza, 3ds sound, ar cards etc; these are can't be deleted and are internal)

IIRC on PSVita is 100 apps. On Wii it was 200 on the SD card channel (I think you could keep downloading but would not display them).

I'm guessing like the Vita app limit it is due to memory in the OS to display the icons. Apparently the 3DS starts to get really sluggish at booting too after 100 (the Wii menu is bad after about 20 of the 48 slots filled)

Edit: It seems PSVita was updated to support 500...

Didn't know about the sound trivia stuff. Nintendo is really good at hiding things which become obvious when slowed down/sped up (Gamecube menu =FDS, Mario end stage=Mario Power up). Won't be able to unhear hear slightly Engerish Minda now though.

I wonder if Pop'n Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventures coming so soon means Parodious might be coming soon. Shame NOE continue to needlessly ruin these by forced 50Hz then have the cheek to say the sound is the correct speed (almost as if the someone at Nintendo thought sound was the only complaint about 50Hz). It is a SNES, you did nothing, music always plays correctly.

@Anguspuss The problem is people only buy when it is on sale. If that was the normal price people would not care. That is what happened to JCPenney (in 2012 they dropped inflated RRP and the like, their reward was about a 30% drop in sales).

Must make highly origfinal stability joke.

The Japanese Pokemon Global Link site is saying that communication errors were hreported to be happening in battles and they are hopeful this update fixes those. Anecdotally, some people were saying they were getting a lot more communication errors as of late when wonder trading etc...

Elsewhere on the web I can find "CVer and the HTTP system-module were updated. Both of these titles still use the original NCCH encryption.". Gobbledegook to me but maybe that is related (I would imagine battle communicate via the HTTP module so if the encryption messes up that would lead to errors).

Starwolf_UK commented on Talking Point: The Wii U eShop is Raising Toug...:

Nintendo is distancing itself from the WiiWare past of dictating the pirces, dictating when the game would come out (to some extent they still do as lot check still exists but once that is over the developer is free) and trying to force quality by only paying developers once they sold enough copies which only served to completely deter developers from the service as hardly anyone put their Wiis online.

Everyone having a go is a consequence of this but if it leads to more and better content being on the eShop the service will be strongher as a whole. It is the open and inclusive image they are gunning for that I mentioned in the opening (sadly, gagging their main eShop guy from Twitter possibly because he said something negative about region locking is not helping this open appearance).

Much like XNA this might lead to a treasure trove of hidden gems but there is yet to be enough of a flood for people to be lucky dipping in this regard.

Starwolf_UK commented on Mario Kart 8 Sales Increase By Nearly a Third ...:

There are rumors of people having games revoked by Mario Kart abuse (one person with 5 games had 2 taken away, seems a bit wrong to me and not a way to get good PR). I also hear someone who recieved a phone call regarding it (but I guess this can only happen if you have such details in your CN account). Technically they could ban your Club Nintendo account though (in terms and conditions about one person can only have one account).

A thing to really take note of if Pokmon Gen 5 went from out of the charts to high (Individual formats) by just doubling sales then sales must be pretty low. We are likely back to numver 1`is 10,000 units where we were a few months ago.

@Jazzer94 Look at how many copies of Watch Dogs CeX has. Now thats what I call a lot. Though to be fair Watch dogs is Ubisoft so will be £20 in about 6 months. At the same time it is important that Mairo Kart is unusually high numbers when compared to anything else on the Wii U (on the PS4 other games like killzone also have 1000s).

@sinalefa Gen VI needed grinding? EXP share meant I was getting too much EXP and had to rotate a team of about 30 to keep my levels getting high. If you mean postgame stuff then there are trainers with Audino in Battle Cheteau (and black writ makes them 20 levels higher which can give a max of about 33k EXP a kill). I did like Gen V for trying different things like the dark patches of grass and the general set up of giving you an optional area around most Gyms (which tended to have types that would help).

Hmm the NES discounts I take as an admission that the prices should have been tiered to start with. Why else would SMB and LOZ being 30% off while the rest 50% off (when Nintendo typically gives 30% off). If they were all 30% off the "lesser" teir would be €3.59 instead of €4.99.

The fact it is 50Hz completely puts me off the game (the fixed scrolling must look terrible on the gamepad as it judders to a halt 10 times a second). I think it is a critical point that deserves to be in the review (dpends on what the review should be, is it a review of the game itself or the package it is in, I personally think it should be the latter).

I got the code on 26th June so rollout of these must be slow and in batches or something. I guess they want to extend the legs of the game so they don't want everyone to recieve it at once.

@WiiLovePeace I too was happy to see this. Speaking of NNID links, that Super Mario Bros DX promotion a while back. An Australian made and linked a UK NNID to their 3DS. For some reason the Super Mario Bros DX code they got given was an Australian one (remember how Australia have different download codes to Europe for some reason) which being stuck on the UK eShop they could not actually use.

Agatsuma Entertainment have never put Code of Princess on sale here in Europe (it is the only game they've published on European eShop). @SonataAndante Here is a list of what you get for things in Europe:
https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Club-Nintendo/About-Club-Nintendo/How-to-get-Stars/How-to-get-Stars-622685.html
Basically 250 stars a game most of the time. The opening up of 3rd parties for 3DS and Wii U helps greately too. It should be noted post play surveys are very rare though (only if you register in first week, appear about a month after release and vanish a month later, no reminders or anything sent out). 3DS eShop and Wii eShop exclusives give out 50 stars when a survey is done (DSi Shop and Wii Shop no longer give anything). Stars earned expire after 24 months (so it is a good idea to hold back slips until they are close to expiring that way you are never forced to spend too many stars at once) with regisration slips for games expire after 3.5 years of release (barring reprint or budget versions which extend them to unknown).

It should be noted Japan is utterly brutal. I think 2 coins = 1 point is the conversion but Japanese games not only expire but fall in value too (as in give way less points 6 months after release). It would be helpful when sites post rewards to break down the relaity of them as that would stem a lot of the grass is greener that tends to happen.

@ikki5 I will try again. You are crying about the fact you can't spend 800 coins for $10 of games on two dead systems (one of which is pointless in Europe due to NOE deciding they should run in crappy 50Hz). The fact that earning 600 coins you get one of 2 $30 games for free on mordern systems is nothing to scoff at and you then have 600 coins to spend. Sure the physical goods are in dire need of a restock but you have over 2 years for that to happen.

Grass is always bloody greener, isn't it.

@roccochacon Have you not thought that is it because of people like you that the gifts in general are so bad? 4 accounts to platinum, I don't believe you can do that legitimately. Prove me wrong :)

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Goes Download-Only With The 2014 Club...:

You can sell or give away digital codes easier than you can sell on physical goods. Plus no waiting until November.

Would have been nice to see the traditional calender on offer and Doc Louis Punch-Out though.

@ikki5 If we use 1 coin=5 stars as a conversion factor the Wii points you want so badly work out at 800 coins for 1000 while you regularly get games worth about that for less than 300 coins.

As for the CDs Mario 3D World is 600 and the Mario Galaxy ones go up to about 1000 coins. Let's not even get into the buyable platinum prizes (spend 1400 coins for something that was given away for earning 600, thanks...still did it as the Mario statue is great and there was nothing else I wanted).

As for our platinum prize it was great. Here it is, in the backets:
( )
Thats right there is nothing there. Remember for earning a platinum prize you also have 600 coins to spend so personally I would be more irate at how that part of the club nintendo system seems to have gone on vacation as that is meant to be the real prize, the platinum is just a bonus.

Starwolf_UK commented on Talking Point: Should Nintendo Be Promoting Th...:

You know on the scale of "Gather around. I've figured out HOW TO SAVE NINTENDO" ideas this is pretty terrible if the GamePad is left in its current state. If it had an OS which was able to do more (especially outside of the Wii U range) you might have an argument as the GamePad would be a tablet then rather than a screen (even as a screen, compared to your average tablet falls short on the resolution front quite massively) but that is what should have happened at launch but would have probably made the system $599 and so perform even worse.

I think the last thing Nintendo needs to do now is muddy the waters even more about what the Wii U is supposed to be (especially as they constantly sway from the GamePad being a TV liberator to a unique part of the experience).

In fact I wonder if Quest 64 is more of a Final Fantasy VII killer than the GamdPad is an iPad killer (sure it is, players may be put off JRPGs for life by Quest 64 thus they never play FFVII, war never was pretty...).

@Emblem You need an NNID to get demos and free applications (e.g. Youtube, Pokemon Bank, Steel Diver Sub Wars). Oddly enough beofre NNID you didn't. Carrot and stick, eh. You are locked to one country with an NNID (rather than being able to use any in that region with seperate wallets in each). Remember how the UK didn't get Inazuma Eleven because level 5 thought British dubs were more important than sales? I could easily get around that but many others were left without the option. Remember how only Austrlaia got Snapdots? I bought that that. Btw, I have to connect ot he Australian eShop to redownload it (erorrs out on UK eShop); which an NNID not linked to Australia would prevent, it is ironic how the account system fails to safegaurd my purchases in that respect. Why not link to Australia then? Terrible prices and loads of game don't come out in Australia.

From what I remember a Japanese 3DS only has one contry to choose anyway (Japan) so it doesn't matter there.

@Noelemahc On the 3DS VC has been dead for a few months in Japan (which is what made Pokemon Trading Card game in Europe such a surprise). On the Wii U, what do you think Kirby is? But for both the probelm with VC is there is so little 3rd party support outside of Japan and lack of supported systems mean there is not much that can released and as a result not a lot left.

The thing with Mario Kart 8 is GAME had it for £30 on their website for one day (free game promo still valid and CeX give £29 cash for it...). Also other retailers have dropped the price of the limited edition a bit. Both those things are short term boosts which won't stem its continual decline.

@Frapp They hide the borders for SNES games. Still slower and jerky (duplicates every 5th frame to keep 60Hz on gamepad) though.

@Gnoll Was $10. Do understand that this is the worst Chibi Robo entry and later on getting enough currency to buy film to take photos is horrible as the prices rise by a lot (to make the game longer). The terrible cameras on the 3DS don't help things and it is especially painful if you fail to take a photo the game wants you to take (you have to buy the film again and try again, no refund or discount for your failure).

So Eurogamer, did peeps pay already? I think him and catch were shill bidders. One of them activity of taking the auction from 100k to 500k all by them-self is very suspicious for one. I think their aim was not to win but give it to someone below by blocking any other bids from taking place (as you would have to beat 500k rather than 70k). The collection is not worth 700k at all (the interviews make it sound like it is padded out by buying anything that is $10 or less) in the traditional sense. In a time and effort sense, possibly.

So yeah until there is evidence of being collected by someone and money transfered it is not a closed book if you ask me. The auction ending at 750k is fact but it is unclear if it has been sold.

If it does go trough I wonder if gamegravel will waive some of the fixed 5% fee here. 37.5k is a lot...

Third party support largely drying up in the west is not helping here. Square Enix, what do I need to give for you to care about the west, also Konami what do I need to do for you to release Hudson content? Nintendo does not have a lot else to release without going into uncharted territory like Zapper games (I know many emulators have on-screen crosshairs but I think that makes the games too easy as the original releases lacked these).

As for NES and SNES. The additional frame of delay on the gamepad is irritating (post a screenshot on Miiverse, the gamepad one is a frame behind the TV one...that is before accounting for the 1 frame transmission delay so really it is 2 frames behind the action) as it has no reason to exist.

Regarding N64. They were all translated into German meaning Europe will be stuck with sub-par 50Hz versions (heres an interesting thing, the Zelda Bonus discs could be played in German but only ran at 60Hz) and stuttering image.

@baba_944 I think Super-FX chip is a legal matter at this point in time as Nintendo were not the creators. The chip patent should expire soon and Argonaut died a while back (but maybe someone bought rights).

Given how well the quick start menu works (I've turned it off because every time I turned the system on it told me the menu was not ready yet) they need to take all the time they can on an update with features. Who knows what will happen if folders were to appear?

Who knows maybe they will write a change log that is more than "stability improvmantz" (keep trolling them, it is a shame as there are actual changes that are meaningful, remember the LAN speed boost?).

To people suggesting cross buy, there is no update needed. The eShop is already equipped to offer users specific offers based on purchases in thier NNID. See the Pullblox World promo. It just requires a change of mindset from Nintendo (which is gradually happening).

I would personally like to see a better offline mode than having to delete all connection settings (if you don't it will try to connect to those every time you boot up or close software).

@BakaKnight Wait, you can't move saves on their own to the NAND? I was under the impression you could. Irritating. Saves on their own on the NAND are the best backup you'll get currently because if the NAND breaks the external drive will be useless anyway (as a repair will be a different system). Edit: If Nintendo is keen on not having end users with public key encrypted saves (as these are easier to hack) then a cloud based solution linked to the NNID is an idea.

As for the game release. I am pleased I can start to put this sorry saga behind me (I stopped caring about the game long ago, it was painful so easier to stop caring). I will say one thing though. It is an utter insult to wait over a year from announcement with no info from either the announcer (Nintendo) or the developer (Atlus) about where it is only to half release it in the end. At the very least it is polite to inform people about why it took so long (it shouldn't have PEGI rating+changing one byte of the ROM header is not a year long task).

If it is £31.99/€40 ala Conception 2 I'll wait for the half price sale. I think Atlus USA will have no problem with waiting a year for my purchase (and if they do then they are hypocrites).
