Starwolf_UK commented on Atlus Discounts 3DS eShop Titles in North America:

@Dave24 For the ones Atlus USA is in direct control in (I think they are a publisher of last resort when it comes to Europe as there are no physical versions) remember that US$ prices have 0% sales tax (as it varies from state to state) while European prices have 20% sales tax factored in (yes it varies from state to state in Europe but not as drastically as it does in the US). So factor in the US prices as having 20% sales tax (so $20 becomes $24) and yes the € prices are still higher, that is true (but not by 25%; €1.26 using today's rate). Still, I think the NOE currency conversion is a tad conservative here, especially for the £ as it is still treated as being worth €1.1 making SMTIV £18 (when $24 is close to £15 and €20 close to £16), I feel bad for people with NNID linked when looking at that.

That aside, I wished NISA (and the others) would care every now and then. NISA could do with some goodwill after increasing the prices of limited editions in Europe by around 70% (they opened an EU store, locked out their US store to EU customers and the EU store uses $=£ and charges a lot for shipping) and an eShop sale would be an easy way to do that.

Starwolf_UK commented on Atlus Discounts 3DS eShop Titles in North America:

@Dave24 Simple reason. All the but Conception II and SMTIV are not published by Atlus in Europe. NISA do all but Code of Princess on that list and they generally don't care (asked on their Facebook page they forgot that they even published EOIV). Code of Princess is published by the Japanese developer (they tried to find a European publisher but nobody wanted to bother) and went on sale a few weeks ago.

The be really fair to Atlus using the NOE $=€ currency conversion SMTIV will launch at the same price as this sale. If only they had permanently dropped Conception II to €25 (they dropped it €30 instead btw it is only sale now for €20)...

So that brings us to why do Atlus games go on sale on the US eShop like clockwork? I hear the US eShop is a pain to navigate so being on the sales page makes it more visible.

Starwolf_UK commented on Two Pokémon Game Boy Color Titles Dated For N...:

To all the people demanding main Pokemon VC games with online, trading, Pokemon bank support and hacked so you really can catch 'em all (don't forget unlimited use TMs as well). Why would the Pokemon company be interested in offering this? The $40 remakes sell millions of copies, why they would put that under threat for a $5 Virtual console release? They would have to sell 8 times as many to have the same revenue.

Plus all the demands to make them useful would be non-trivial to achieve (some moreso than others).

Starwolf_UK commented on These GameCube-style Mario Bros. Controllers O...:

@Wilford111 Have you considered the through that an officially licensed controller made by a Japanese company known for good quality is not the same thing.

I'm guessing from your description you bought a cheaply made Chinese counterfeit of the official gamecube controller (probably from somewhere like deal extreme...more like pirate extreme) which as it was cheaply made broke in no time.

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Download: 23rd October (Europe):

Did Bayonetta 1 really have to be £25? I think £20 is more appealing here (you don't get a discount if your copy of 2 is a disc game, I can see solos bombing but if you want 1 that extra £5 might make you better off finding disc special edition).

Quick question. Why was the following info not included in the news post:
"This is the European version of the game, which was optimised originally by the developer to offer gameplay and music speed similar to the US version. Demos and animations may run at PAL speed. The aspect ratio has been corrected for this release."
I think it is very important info. Yep DKC2 is the 50Hz version (the speed isn't the problem, the Wii U and Gamepad only putting at 60Hz is). This is despite the fact DKC1 was a surprise 60Hz release (and English only). I say surprise as the press release and eShop page unusually did not state either way.

Starwolf_UK commented on 3DS Homebrew Hacker Makes Progress on New Nint...:

It is sad I have to cheer this on for one reason. Virtual boy emulation. Why is it sad? I would have thought Virtual Boy Wario Land was worthy of being a 3D classic (as it quite literally was one) but apparently Urban Champion was more worthy, and I assume that and the rest of the range sold poorly and lead Nintendo to think 3D Classics were not things people wanted.

I can imagine it might be plagued with screen issues (just like the real virtual boy then I guess) given 3D classics Kid Icarus allegedly had the backdrops added to avoid screen issues.

Given I now own a second 3DS now (I need to trade Pokemon) that I have no interest taking online (previous owner left their NNID linked so including quite a few retail downloads, I don't want to risk losing those, as the previous owner appears to have a Wii U and could have deleted the NNID from there or might be able to convince Nintendo to revoke the NNID) I will certainly play with whatever comes out assuming I have the game which the exploit works with.

Starwolf_UK commented on It'll be Possible to Catch All 719 Pokémon Us...:

I'm pretty sure they've said before excluding mythical or maybe just saying can complete national is enough to imply that.

A thing for anyone wanting to do this themselves is while the 705 Pokemon needed to complete the National Dex will be possible I can't help but think Gamefreak will stingy in places again. Remember how in XY you could only get one of the legendary birds per play through.

The other legendary trios (which I'm guessing are in the sky too) will probably play out in the same way based on that.

In other news HG/SS transferred Unown became a whole lot less valuble (unless they do something kind of like Deerling/Sawsbuck and only have one variant represented in OR/AS).

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo UK Executive Says Wii U Has Had "Quit...:

@FLUX_CAPACITOR lol, you must be extremely deluded if you think "there probably aren't two other people on the planet " who care about backing up saves.

As for the display. Oh thats it, blame the consumer. Such a sound argument. You've convinced me, I shouldn't blame Nintendo for making the Wii U output in limited RGB only and have to use it on a full RGB only monitor because that is the only device I have with HDMI in. I'll just and go and spend £300 I don't have right now on a new monitor just because Nintendo can't be like every other console manufacturer and support full RGB. In case you couldn't tell I was being sarcastic.

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo UK Executive Says Wii U Has Had "Quit...:

@FLUX_CAPACITOR @QuickSilver88 Sure thing. Here is why the Wii U OS is bad.

I want to back up my saves. There is no simple and sensible mechanism to do this. So I want to do the next best thing; have save games internal and games external (if the internal breaks any thing external is useless anyway). It doesn't let you do that. Everything to do with a game has to be in the same location.

The video output is limited RGB only. Many output devices (such as computer monitors) support full RGB only. This results in an extremely dull image unless you mess with the brightness and contrast on your device (which I did, using the game pad as a calibrator; great feature btw), I'm a bit oversaturated but that was a hassle I could have done without. I imagine many users don't bother with this potentially seeing an inferior image to what they should.

Yes the OS has come leaps and bounds from the launch, which was a joke in how under featured it was (no folders was ridiculous, I don't care PS4 still lacks them, 3DS had them at the time of Wii U launch) but there is still room for improvement.

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo UK Executive Says Wii U Has Had "Quit...:

This should be viewed in the context of 2013 which was a bad year for the Wii U in the UK and Europe, remember that quarter where they shipped negative units? (i.e. retailers returned units)

It is a step in the right direction but it isn't changing the destiny of the Wii U that is an underselling niche console that people will cherish for years kind of like the Dreamcast (Wii U doesn't have the 3rd party support to be Gamecube 2). Its got different downsides to the Dremacast (OS being terribe is not something you can say about the Dremacast) but many similar ones such as no EA.

Nintendo UK are not resourced to do the marketing push it needs and the system really needs another £50 slashed to fly better which is unlikely to happen considering it still sold at a loss.

Starwolf_UK commented on Transport Yourself To The Eighties With This T...:

Shame the game has a completely retro pricing of rip off the UK to an absurd amount. I'm sorry but £35 is not worth it when NES Remix 1+2 on the Wii U eShop total £18. Who greenlit that? It doesn't make sense. Unless they are trying to say the "free" hat is worth £17

I imagine the US pricing is $30 which is the same as NES Remix 1+2 cost over there.

Starwolf_UK commented on Inquisitive Gamers Stumble Across Potential eS...:

The icons for games appear to be uploaded (even for the EU side). They use the same URL format as the NNP website but the file extension is different. The NNP site ones are JPEGs while these are PNG. 128*128 for Wii U games and 72*72 for 3DS games.

This is probably for showing purchases in your account.

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Releases Drop in UK Charts in Face of...:

Those charts have a glitch in them. The press release mentions Skylanders at number 7, the console specific charts have Skylanders yet the all formats charts seem to missing it entirely.

@unrandomsam From their website:
"GfK Chart-Track reports are based on retail/web sales where the data is captured electronically each day via EPoS systems. Reports are generated using an Oracle relational database, integrated with a custom-built PC-based processing system."

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Download: 16th October (Europe):

I have a feeling DKC 1-3 are going to be 50Hz. It is isn't a problem from a game speed front as they run as fast as their 60Hz versions. The problem is the Wii U and the Gamepad only output in 60Hz, they do this by duplicating every 5th frame; resulting in scrolling being noticeably jerky.

I kind of want DKC TF but the purchase of a crap 50-Hz version of DKC kind of puts me off (and also largely offsets the saving).

Starwolf_UK commented on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy States a ...:

@Kolzig NOE recommend the following $=€=£0.9. In other words on that metric the UK price should be £27. Convert that to Euros. Complete rip-off. Now you see why I didn't link an NNID and lock myself into the UK eShop. I guess the silver lining is the publishers get more money if you pay more for games...

I guess if there something to be disappointed by it is comparing to Dual Destines. That was £20 in the UK and the US version was $30. Likewise the iOS version of trilogy is cheaper. Why should 3DS version be $12 more? Apple take the same cut as Nintendo. Unless we're saying the DS version music and fixed animations are worth that extra (speaking of which aren't those things easy to patch into the iOS version, especially the music).

Starwolf_UK commented on Super Smash Bros. on 3DS Lacks Circle Pad Pro ...:

@mh1989 Why did Nintendo make the CPP you ask? Capcom asked them to and Monster Hunter is one of the most popular games on the 3DS in Japan so you go out of your way to keep Capcom on board.

Kid Icarus got the support it seems near the end of development for left handed players (it gives the 5% CPU story credence, they had optimised the game so had some spare at that point, they didn't announce it sooner as they unsure they could pull it off).

Starwolf_UK commented on Almost 50 Different System Themes Revealed Pri...:

Given we've heard that some games will come with themes, I'm guessing Pokemon OR/AS might be one of these. Unless they are making them exclusive to a limited edition console or something.

Images on the Nintendo website show you change theme/access the theme shop where you currently access brightness settings (those are still there). Also if you delete your NNID or eShop account you'll lose your themes (so they're linked to this).

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Direct: New Nintendo 3DS Models Comin...:

Those are the same prices as the 3DS systems currently are in AU apparantly. In other words these SKUs are replacing those.

For anyone comparing price remember sales tax in AU is 10% while for Europe it is 20%+.

As for "its not fair you suck McBain", Australia has a population of around 23 million, that is less than Canada. So much few units are needed compared to anywhere else.

News on the ground is that original 3DS SKU has not been seen in stores for months down in Australia.

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Rolling Out New In-Store Digital Dist...:

Add-on content is interesting. Wonder if that applies to 3DS as you have to buy that in-game there (I guess they don't want accidental buys of content for games you don't have)

@Pigeon Gifts maybe. This begs the question though, if this tablet is essentially doing that, why can't I do it from my own home?

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Download: 25th September (Europe):

@Thecoolmana777 Fantasy life in Japan had two versions. Fantasy life and then the Link expansion released some months later. Owners of the non-link version could buy an expansion pack upgrade. The Link version added online play as well as all the postgame stuff.

Now when the non-Japan release happened, rather than give us Link and all the content they give us the base game with online play from Link then are forced to pay up for the Link content (if you want to play that).

Maybe including the Link content would have made the game £40 and a lot of players won't get to the content but for those that do spend £7 to save £5? That just seems like a cash cow or some sort of online pass style make money off pre-owned players.

Yes it has generated publicity for the game but at the same time day 1 DLC is something that really puts players off (as this is uaully associated as witholding content). Especially the rumor that buying the DLC means you can't play at all with non-DLC owners.

Another way to look at it is last year Bravely Default came out here. We got the for the sequel version and didn't have to pay £7 for the improvements there (Bravely Defalut in Japan got the for the sequel verison as a boxed release and download upgrade about a year after the original release so similar to fantasy life; its improvements including be able to change encounter rates any time you like, this is useful as parts of the second half of the game drag out). Then again it was £40...

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Download: 25th September (Europe):

Nobunaga's Ambition never made it to Wii Virtual Console in Europe. 5 years on and we can play it on Wii U...ah how times have changed. Hopefully Uncharted Waters and other Koei games follow suit.

Wait, a Wii U demo. Like when was the last time one of those was made? I don't care that it is spin the bottle...

I am sure this was discussed elsewhere but the "best" thing about the fantasy life DLC is it may disable you from playing online with non-DLC owners. Excluding the £7 DLC only made the game £5 cheaper so that argument falls flat too. It is all post-game content (and since 3DS DLC must be bought in-game, getting to that shop requires the game beaten)

Starwolf_UK commented on Video: We Take A Look At Super Smash Bros. 3DS...:

Powers and equips will be something to get used to here. For anyone with the demo the tips page gives tips for smash run which include what various enemies do (if you need to further wet your appetite, Koffing for instance can lower stats).

Starwolf_UK commented on Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bug Allows Miiverse ...:

@ShockeyRai I think the Kid Icarus one was using AR card mode. I think some games can disable screenshots while in those sorts of modes.

This Mario & Luigi one seems like a framebuffer bug (the instructions sound like Mario & Luigi doesn't get any time to update it from the photo you were viewing).

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Download: 18th September (Europe):

Finally, Europe not only gets a 60Hz version of DK Original Edition (50Hz one being the Red Wii bundle) but can actually buy it too. Kind of lame for the 17 people who bought DK though having to rebuy it to get a better version...

Could Zelda Four Swords Anniversary be on the horizon?

@PLATINUM7 The PR put of last week said it would come on Friday. Not sure why it is missed here as other Friday releases are listed.

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Patent Hints at Pokémon Standalone C...:

Starwolf_UK commented on Demo for Super Smash Bros. 3DS Announced for N...:

EU requirements would have been nice. You would think a member of 12 years would be something but nothing so far :P I kind of can't get the limited use demo either due to refusing to link an NNID to my 3DS (I can't agree to being locked to a single eShop).

I didn't expect a demo either way so I'm not too bothered.

Starwolf_UK commented on Mega Camerupt, Mega Gallade, and Mega Sharpedo...:

I still worry for the durability of Gallade. I assume it doesn't lose Fighting type which doesn't help it live priority Brave Bird.

The others reek of version exclusive, sadly (I hate version exclusive stones, either I waste my time trading with someone or waste my money buying a cheat tool to get them...guess they want you to buy the other game...and a second system)

Starwolf_UK commented on Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Will Suppor...:

As a recent CCP owner (for Kid icarus...which despite being left handed I play better playing like a right handed person) I don't like this precedent of no forward support. I see no reason why anything that supports the added buttons and sticks can't also support the CCP.

Likewise, it suggests these built-in buttons won't be BC as CCP...they're not going to release a New CCP leaving New 3DS with no good way to play Galaxy Force 2. Then again I'm not sure if the C-stick is a worthy replacement...
Edit: Ah Japanese page shows show the buttons are BC as CCP.

Some people have argued this lack of support here is for supporting the Amiibo stand (coming in 2015) as that uses IR on non-New 3DS...heres an idea. I don't plan on using Amiibo, give me full control.

Starwolf_UK commented on LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham DLC Season Pass i...:

"Whether there are issues and limitations with the Wii U infrastructure — such as the eShop — with season passes is unclear."
I expect better from you, Nintendo Life. Especially when Mario Kart just got a season pass and the 3DS can also do season passes (Mario Golf).

Here is the "technical" reason. WB games canceled a Batman game Season pass on Wii U (as they decided they couldn't be bothered to port DLC as there were too few sales). As a result people were refunded ($20, I think it was even the full pass cost). They want to keep the option of not releasing all the DLC this time without having any penalties...(as season pass buyers there got released DLC for free basically but the big part was never seen on Wii U)

Starwolf_UK commented on September's Club Nintendo Reward Details Are C...:

Why is Super-Punch Out so expensive? I wonder if was Kirby was supposed to be 250 as well...maybe they don't want people to redeem Super-Punch Out so they can stop offering Wii Shop channel downloads (under the reason few claim them).

@Beau_Skunk I think the prices are upped because people can (sadly) afford those prices. The lack of physical goods only furthers that. In part the problem is it is too easy to get coins (for $1 you can have 110 coins, 80 from free Disney Infinity, 30 from America's Test Kitchen from Gamestop), especially with intend to buy, post play and games having ridiculously long expiry times (seems whole systems get expired).

The Japanese and European systems expire games a bit more timely and the points themselves run out sooner (Japanese system also has older releases worth less).

Starwolf_UK commented on Shigeru Miyamoto Flipped The Tea Table with Hy...:

I have mixed feelings. Warriors game with Zelda in is a very safe and conservative game and comes accross as cheap and dull. It feels like the developers want to give something more ambitious a go.

In a way the creativity was stifled but at the same time Nintendo was the one taking risks (if it turned out too similar or bad or whatever, a proven game is a safe option) hence why I'm not sure how to feel.

Miyamoto is not all-wise though. He wanted Link Between worlds to be another Link to the Past port for instance (if it came out lie they I wouldn't have bought it as I already have that).

Starwolf_UK commented on Bayonetta 2 Casting Its Spell In Europe On Oct...:

I still want a pricing on special edition. The GAME price implies RRP for £55 and have 70 Euros. If those are accurate here is a tip for NOE. Bayonetta 1 was ported because many people have not played it (and so wouldn't want to play the sequel), making it stupidly expensive (rather than a freebie like America has it) is not going to make them jump in.

@Punished_Boss Complain to Nintendo about for caring about their limited edtions holding their value (UK retail drop everything like bricks to compete). The 15000 copies are for the whole of Europe and it isn't GAME exclusive outside of the UK (but other retailers probably won't get many as it will probably be treated as one copy for every 50 regular you buy). You could not bother with it (I think it looks naff), wait for the Nintendo Store to have it (they seem to get all LE even exclusive ones) or order form outside the UK.

NOE are keen for a 2014 release as they said in their schedule lasy Friday (same goes for Gunvolt) so you can sure once they get thier hands on it (i.e. it is submitted to them) they will work on getting it approved ASAP.

@BLPs You did notice in the timeline they got the ratings (and before the translations I might add). As for why they can't do UK/Aus only. Submitting to NOE is bad enough once having to do it a second time when the translations are done is not idea. Patches have to go through the same process too.

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo UK Outlines September's Dazzling Zeld...:

In this comments thread. The grass is always greener, weather it is sales or Club Nintendo...

My thoughts on the 10% fan discount. A bit pointless when a GAME download code is highly likely to be cheaper than that and give you NNP points as if you bought it for £40. Then again you can not use existing NNP points at GAME.

OOT 3D Should be better as it has been at the past (disappointed it isn't). Then again given how physical copies still seem to sell well at a high price maybe that is reflected here (Amazon has gotten to the point where any copies new or used sell out a few times...except that one £200 used one)

30% seems to be the best discount they want A tier first party VC games (I should have gotten SMB2 when it was 50% off to celebrate the year of Luigi ending), excluding Link to the Past but that is a crappy 50Hz version so who would want that?

@Spoony_Tech It could still be $60. IIRC Pikmin 3 was and that was €50 here. Likewise WWHD was $50 but was €60. What I'm getting is while €=$ is the norm there are exceptions.

@ikki5 You should note earning 600 coins is a lot less (and easier) than spending 7500 stars. 600 coins is around 3000 stars if you compare full price Wii retail games. That means Europe has to work more than twice as hard...also consider the Platinum members also have those 600 coins to spend on anything they like. But none of this comes free which is probably why Club Nintendo is crashing and burning currently.

Starwolf_UK commented on New Nintendo 3DS Delays Planned Homebrew Channel:

Interesting thing to note or bear in mind. Playing an import game using region unlock hacks and going online with this may violate the Nintendo Network terms and conditions. Not sure if activation of streetpass or spotpass on these also does so (streetpassing via a Nintendo zone I guess uses Nintendo Network).

I guess if you have a spare 3DS such things won't matter though.

My only hope for Homebrew is a Virtual Boy emulator (being able to experience it minus the headaches would be great). I would have thought VB Wario Land would get a 3D Classics version (the cream of the crop of VB games, sounds like just the ticket) but it is clearly not going to happen officially at this point.

@retro_player_22 It is not OOT 3D. smealum gave hints that the game was cheap (OOT is not), on the eShop in some but not all regions (OOT is on all)...then got really made that people ran with this and speculated as to what the game was (as it is just making people waste money).

Starwolf_UK commented on Trust Us, You Need This Super Famicom Box Art ...:

I'm remind of a Japanese book of the Famicom (ファミリーコンピュータ 1983-1994) which contains photos of every game box and cart and a description in English and Japanese and some interviews (again bilingual). For a lot of the minor games it does cram several into a page (well how else do you fit 1252 games into 199 pages). I might try to get it one day, but it is long out of print and it looks like I'll have to use a mail forwarding company making it pricey.

@gspro15198 Given how it says "celebrates the Super Famicom's greatest games and box art, from obscurities to classics" suggests it is curated selection.

As for "I hope it will bring new fans to the 24 year-old console and its Japanese roots". Limiting it kind of defeats the purpose here.

Starwolf_UK commented on Nintendo Download: 4th September (Europe):

Please mention that the 10% off Hyrule Warriors is only for the first week of release (19th-26th). Since I don't have time to get it then I guess this has steeled my resolve to wait for a sale.

The Zelda discounts are kind of crap though. OOT 3D has been 50% off in the past (better than this discount). LoZ 1+2 were also 30% in that NES remix promo a few weeks ago.

@Kyoto Probably not this week (apparently they are saying something tomorrow). If it isn't in the press release on the 22nd panic then.

@gurtifus NOE release schedlue released on Friday said 2014. Of course the developer need to finish the translations and submit the game to NOE first...without those NOE don't have anything release.

"should you already own Kirby: Triple Deluxe and have StreetPass data for it, you can get even more content from the additional downloadable versions of the mini-games."
I don't like this kind of move. If you don't own the Kirby TD game you might be put off buying these because content is locked due to that while if you own Kirby TD the new content might not be enough for your to buy.

@arielp It doesn't support multiplayer? My first thought when this game came out was "oh I guess if you have 2 systems you could use this for multiplayer and it is cheaper than buying a second Kirby TD"
