RevolverLink commented on Thinking Of Buying Animal Crossing: New Leaf? ...:

As I imagine that having games like Animal Crossing and Pokemon in my 3DS at all times would be tremendously convenient, I will gladly do so, Iwata-san.

...Just as soon as soon as you start tying purchases to accounts instead of systems. And not a moment before.

RevolverLink commented on Don't Expect Retro Games to Play in New Animal...:

Yeah, I think most people already understand and accept that the return of playable NES games in Animal Crossing is unlikely to ever happen. Jonathan Holmes from Destructoid brought up an alternative earlier today that I really liked though (even if it is just as unlikely): playable fake-NES games.

Just the thought of basically having Retro Game Challenge-style "retro" titles incorporated into Animal Crossing had me salivating.

On one hand, I'm pleasantly surprised that Rhythm Thief took the top spot.

On the other hand, I'm disappointed that VRL wasn't ranked more highly and that, even with 13 spots for 10 games, EOIV somehow failed to make the list entirely.

I freaking love Link's Awakening; the only Zelda title that I hold closer to my heart is Majora's Mask.

I still can't believe Nintendo managed to squeeze that game onto a Game Boy cart.

RevolverLink commented on Platinum's Hideki Kamiya Gives Smash Bros. Fan...:

You would think that the kind of people that would bug Hideki Kamiya on Twitter would also be the kind of people that know what Hideki Kamiya is actually in control of and that he is kind of a loose cannon.

But then again, this is the internet.

I'm not sure I'd take it quite to the level Kamiya did, but I'd be pretty annoyed too if people kept endlessly pestering me about a project I'm neither working on nor have any control over.

And I'm pretty sure that Capcom, not Platinum Games, hold the rights to Viewtiful Joe anyway, so I don't know why anyone should be bugging him about that.

RevolverLink commented on Ubisoft: With The Right Games Wii U Will Find ...:

He's not wrong. Saying that a single game can save a system is probably oversimplifying things a bit, but the impact that games like Super Mario 64, Halo, Super Smash Bros. Melee and New Super Mario Bros. had for the Nintendo 64, Xbox, GameCube and Nintendo DS, respectively, shouldn't be underestimated (particularly in SM64's case - that game almost single-handedly kept the N64 afloat during the extended wait until the next wave of 1st- and 2nd-party content). Even though those first three systems didn't ultimately win their console generations (and the DS was competing on a different playing field with the PSP and another Nintendo handheld), those games moved a lot of systems and went a long way toward solidifying those consoles' relevance.

And Rayman Legends was never going to be that game, whether or not it remained a Wii U exclusive. Rayman and other non-Mario side-scrollers just don't have that kind of drawing power.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf is the closest I've come to choosing the digital option over an available physical copy. I'm not going to, but I can definitely see how it would be tremendously convenient, especially in this particular game's case.

RevolverLink commented on Aonuma: I Want To Work On Things Other Than Zelda:

I'd welcome it. Aonuma clearly wants to try his hand at other things, and who can blame him? Even if you are proud of your work on a series, what type of creator wants to be stuck working on just one IP for their whole career? And Zelda could truly benefit from some fresh creative blood at this point.

RevolverLink commented on Feature: Our Top 10 3DS Games - Summer 2013:

While not entirely unexpected, it still feels wrong to see 3 remakes/enhanced ports, along with the rather uninspired New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Mario Kart 7, make this kind of list. Especially when the 3DS has quality, original 3rd party titles like Virtue's Last Reward, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, Etrian Odyssey IV, Soul Hackers (it is an enhanced port, but seeing as it was never released outside of Japan before April 2013, I'm counting it), Rhythm Thief, Resident Evil: Revelations, Harvest Moon: ANB, Kingdom Hearts: DDD and Code of Princess that can stand beside some of the best Nintendo has to offer.

Even with all of its technical flaws, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward is my favorite title for the system.

After that, Etrian Odyssey IV: Legends of the Titan, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, Super Mario 3D Land and Fire Emblem: Awakening round out my top five.

RevolverLink commented on Etrian Odyssey IV Reduced To 30 Bucks On The N...:

Etrian Odyssey IV is a game that's worth every penny of that asking price, digital or otherwise. There's dozens, even hundreds, of hours of content in EOIV, and it's a highly-polished experience that's beautiful to look at, a pleasure to listen to and very fun to play once you get into it.

That it manages to be welcoming to newcomers of its particular niche (like me) without sacrificing its obvious hardcore appeal is an achievement that shouldn't be understated. Atlus did (as they always seem to do) a phenomenal job with it.

RevolverLink commented on Oh Snap, Now Rayman Legends Is Coming To PS Vi...:

I'm not sure why anyone is getting worked up over one more port when the game was already revealed to be going multi-platform several months ago. Ubisoft has always been well-known for porting their games, and Rayman especially, to every system under the sun. Heck, they ported Rayman 2 again just two years ago.

Rayman Legends is still coming to Wii U and if it looked fun to you before, it should still look fun to you now. I don't see how a Vita release with some negligible exclusive content should affect that.

My absolute favorite Super NES game tends to change depending on my mood. The more I re-play ALttP, the higher it rises on my list of favorite Zeldas (and games) ever, but Super Mario World, Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger and Yoshi's Island are all basically dead even with it when it comes to my affections. ActRaiser is high up there for me too, even with my hatred of end-of-game boss gauntlets, and I loved (granted, it was the DS remake) Dragon Quest V too.

OH, and Umihara Kawase is great too!

A new top-down Zelda?
Bravely Default?
All three Guild02 games?
A new Yoshi's Island?
Release dates for Pikmin 3, Mario & Luigi and the Oracle series ports?
EarthBound?
Professor Layton?

Nintendo just has no regard for how little money I have.
