RennanNT commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's Approach to Transfor...:

@tsukipon why? because unless you like everything, there aren't many games to look forward, even on 3ds. People wanted more games and all Nintendo gave them was low budget games and stuck their IP on them to look more appealing, but it just made worse on IPs people wanted a new game for years.

Had they promised a couple games which doesn't seems to be just fillers, the complains would just be the vocal minority, like with every spin off(in every system). Hyrule Warriors, Pokemon Shuffle and many others prove people are open to spin off. God, Mario Kart is probably bigger than SMB nowadays.

@Peach64 All their consoles had something to add to gaming. D-Pad, shoulder buttons, analogic stick+rumble+M design to simulate pistols, triggers+linking gba. And there's the DS and 3DS too..

People single out the wii just because they didn't liked retrocess in some areas (all other were increments over the previous) and cattering to casuals.

The Wii U had one of their most standard console controller ever (keep in mind those things only became standard AFTER Nintendo), all it have really different is the touch screen. The gamepad only problem was to increase the price a lot.

Nintendo problem isn't "gimmicks", its mostly not having a good output of games, not being on trend anymore and poor advertising. Had they used the Pro controller or the GC controller or whatever controller, they would still sell under 20 millions.

RennanNT commented on Despite the Rumours, Nintendo NX Will Not be A...:

@Hikingguy While making Steam OS run on Power PC is possible, the games wouldn't run on it, so it needs to be a x86. And it doesn't even need to be Steam OS, as long as is a steam compatible version of Linux, Nintendo doesn't really need Valve's permission.

So its more about someone at Nintendo suggesting and the director board not be expecting another success like Wii (in which case they might want to get money from 3rd parties too), hopefully their greed doesn't blind them from how hard it would be another Wii in this smart phone era.

RennanNT commented on Despite the Rumours, Nintendo NX Will Not be A...:

@DarthNocturnal Nintendo would only do that if they were desperate. If it doesn't have exclusives, their hardware won't sell, and if the platform isn't theirs, then they lose 30% of the software sales.

Now, IF Nintendo finds a way to make an PC compatible with most Steam games without making their game compatible with other PCs, then it could dominate the "Steam Box" market and be competitive on console again.

They would let go any chance of getting money from 3rd party sales (which nearly nobody would sell/buy on Nintendo e-shop instead of Steam), but since it doesn't requires any effort from developers, developers won't drop support to the system or put incomplete versions, which is one of the main reasons Wii U is selling so bad (and just the chance of it happening again would hurt next system sales a lot too).

They would have to drop backward compatibility too, if they want the system to be competitive in price. But PS4 is there to say people doesn't care, and they would have PC's library to cover Wii U's.

Achieving that IF (and convincing the board its safe enough) is really hard though.

RennanNT commented on Eiji Aonuma Explains Several Design Choices in...:

@FlappyFalco "a pop-up telling you exactly what to do every time you talk to someone." Its not like that at all. The bomber notebook just summarize what you just read. Unless you skip conversations, all new info it gives you is if that quest/minigame chain is completed and if it was done in this cycle if its needed.

Its a great addition, because it replaces walkthroughs without spoon-feeding you. For example, there's 2 ways to deliver Kafei's letter, doing one might make you think you're done with that quest line and never touch it again, but the notebook won't mark as complete so you will know something is missing but it won't say "deliver it in other way". Other case is simple forgetting what you did and what you have to do, because there's many sidequests and not everyone will play it everyday to remember. I'm sure lots of people resorted to walkthroughs on the original for things like that and were told what to do because of that.

RennanNT commented on Poll: Do Video Game Reviews Need To Have A Score?:

I think it should be based on how much the game is recommendable, and having multiple numbers for accuracy. For example, these 5 grades:

  • How much I recommend for who liked old entries of the series
  • How much I recommend for who did NOT liked old entries
  • ... for who likes the genre
  • ... for who do not like the genre
  • ...for who is new to the genre

(The do "not like" ones are to measure how much they differ from what you'd expect. Like Mario Kart and Smash are so different from the norm of their genre that people might like them even if they don't like racing/fighting games).

EDIT: But it doesn't need to be numbered. A brief answer to questions like those in the conclusion is enough to me. If I'm still interested or at least intrigued, then I read the full review.

@Axed84 @Dipper723 @Captain_Toad Perhaps IGN took that out of context, but his quote is "As for why Mewtwo isn't paid content from the start", which implies later it WILL be paid. And "foothold in content distribution" means there will be DLC coming (be it free or paid)...

Possibly, they're planing a DLC packs like MK8's and who bought both games get the first item of the pack earlier and for free, as a service.

Oh, and I seriously can't imagine there's someone who would pay $40 just for mewtwo and isn't a die hard fan who certainly bought both versions already.. So yeah, it IS a bonus.

RennanNT commented on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy States a ...:

@Capt_N First of all, iOS is $17. Sure, its cheaper, but thats how things are with mobile, because of a higher user base and that $20 is the limit people will pay for a mobile game.

Its alright if you are afraid of Nintendo's account system or if this game isn't your cup of tea enough to justify the price, but this is not expensive at all in non-mobile game standards.

Regarding replayability, its similar to watching a mystery movie again, so not everyone enjoys play it again (and probably the reason it went download only as trade in must be a much more serious issue for games like this).

RennanNT commented on The Pokémon Trading Card Game Is Coming To iP...:

@Einherjar Kids nowadays also buy a lot o merchandise from their favorite cartoon, games, etc. They also ask things to their parents that they are interested. And, as I said, they won't buy a 3ds at first, they will borrow or emulate, and its then that they will be hooked.

My friends own consoles, but except for 2 of them, the last Nintendo they had was a decade ago or more. The only one planing to buy a 3DS, did that after he played Pokemon on his sister DS and regained interest on the series again.

And alone this won't change much, but its a good start, as long as kid find the pokemons cool, cute, funny, etc, they will be a step closer to try the anime, play other games and buy merchandises.

RennanNT

RennanNT commented on The Pokémon Trading Card Game Is Coming To iP...:

@Einherjar I'm talking about kids. Once they get interested in pokemon, they will go for anime and other games. Probably with a friend who has a (3)DS or use emulators for older versions. When I was a child, because of the anime, I even payed to a kid I knew for the emulator. Not much longer I asked a SNES to my parents.

Besides, you are just seeing the stereotype of mobile owners. Square Enix is selling games at $20 and they were (its been 1~2 years since I last saw the list) at top 10 on most lucrative at app store.
Half the world has a smartphone nowadays. I and all my friends who own consoles have smartphone (and buy games on it once in a while). That didn't stopped us from buying console games at full price.

@Einherjar And my point is that they are trying to extend that audience instead of cater to them.Hardly any TCG fan doesn't have already a 3ds for the main game. And I doubt they would buy a Wii U for it if there's one on 3ds.
Sadly Nintendo needs to gain interest from who never played Nintendo games or even its handheld might suffer next generation.

RennanNT commented on The Pokémon Trading Card Game Is Coming To iP...:

@Einherjar But think about the children who prefer a tablet over a 3ds. If you ignore your experiente in games, tablets will appear as a much better choice.

Making them interested in the franchise is the best way to make them even try the main game. And this game fits really well this objective. Its easy and quick, you can chalange your friends even if they never played it.

And, for card games in general, the best experience is on tablets for sure. They should put on 3ds too though.

@TheWPCTraveler @ChessboardMan I believe you can create an backup of your save data (press the left arrow on the bottom, at the home screen). I didn't tried but, you can try make a backup->change something->save->make another backup->load 1st backup->check if its ok->load 2nd backup, if it works as I think it does, you can alternate saves freely using that.

But, in a NewGame+ can't you keep the story characters? In EOIV, I started a new game + and create a new team, while still keeping my old team on the guild and could play with them whenever I wanted or even mix both parties.

@Tsurii897 its because you need the figurines that its not a problem give the other version free.

Perhaps to grab sales of those in doubt of buying Wii U (as they might wait and end not buying the game).
Other possibility is amiibo. Supposing it makes a huge success and current Wii owners upgrades, Activision will enter the wave too, but having to buy the same game again (to use NFC) might turn people off, so garanteeing they will have the game might be a good strategy to not lose ground to other figurine franchises.

@MAB That Mario's sprite still is professional and, under the hardware limitations, it looks good.

OTOH, Even if all AE had was the Microsoft Word they used and didn't have experience with it, there's still way better teasers they could do if they spend a few hours trying to improve. There's no excuse to it be so bad. God, pure text would be absolutely better.

I was going to give AE the benefit of the doubt, but I lost any trust (actually gained negative trust) after seeing the feb13th post on their blog (http://www.aegames.net). Seriously, I know 7 years old kids who could do a less amateur job than that. To make it worse the '3rd party conspiracy' post and naming it after EA...
I will give them the credits for the idea and the name of the game, but they are way more close to Angry Fanboys than Angry Birds.

RennanNT commented on Nintendo Looking To "Harvest" 3DS Success To A...:

@ikki5 Don't get me wrong, I'm fully aware of all the promises they didn't met. But all we can get from an investor report are plans for the future and in the paper they are taking the right direction. To put an example, Nintendo fans should be pleased Nintendo acknowledged the drought and said they would do something about it, what they shouldn't be pleased at is Nintendo not fulfilling it at all - see the difference?

And, at the very least, this time isn't completely empty promises, since they are actually putting effort in bringing momentum to the Wii U instead of trying to harvest now (bundle, free game, SSB tournament and its seems they will advertise it for once).

RennanNT commented on Nintendo Looking To "Harvest" 3DS Success To A...:

@Ichiban Wii U owners should be pleased with what was said. It would be very worrying if they were "After game X arrive Wii U will sell loads by itself, the 3rd party will join in and we will be crowed" like last year.
They have to aim break even and build momentum this year (perhaps next year too) and only then harvest on Wii U. Had they decided to harvest now, they would get some small profit with MK+SSB+LoZU and then Wii U dies afterwards. And don't forget, to create momentum they have to make great deals (like the free game with MK) and bring plenty games.

4) Ubi is a business, sales come first.
5) You're kidding right? 3rd party on Wii U has been "indie", "delayed port" or "nothing" for a year now, save rare exception. They have plenty experience to know what will happen, and we too..

@Caryslan About the last paragraph:
Fair enough, but to me every Zelda game make some steps back and some steps forward. TP biggest step back, for example, was wanting to be so much an 'better OoT'. The most awesome thing in Zelda to me is the ever-changing game where they let-go things even if it was great, and its the only series with I could do a marathon with more than 3 games (and think I could make the entire series if I keep alternating art-styles and gameplay, with perhaps Zelda 2 as exception - side-scrollers simply aren't my thing).

RennanNT

#42

RennanNT commented on Video: What Could The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward...:

@Caryslan I wasn't saying everyone follow the cycle. There's not a single game that will be loved by everyone. It just that there's SOME fans who look at things with nostalgia glasses, making everything new "not as good as in the old times" until these games become from old times themselves, and these fans are pretty vocal, so you get a hate wave that simply disappear after a few years.

RennanNT commented on Video: What Could The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward...:

@ikki5 I'm just saying that you're not interested in improved gameplay like I am, (not that you are a "graphic jerk" by any means, in case it sounded like this). As remake are basically improvements on gameplay, graphics and/or content, and additional content are rarely worth a second buy by themselves, so if gameplay improvements isn't enough, then a big gap in graphics is necessary for a second buy, right?

Things like the iron boots on OoT3D or the sailing speed on WWHD (not them alone, but several small improvements together) made them worth to buy again for me. But I understand not everybody find it worth enough...

RennanNT commented on Video: What Could The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward...:

@Interneto Zelda cycle summarized = hype for next Zelda, hate for the most recent Zelda, love for the previous ones. Some hate SS now, but later will complain how the new game should be more like SS.

@ikki5 I much rather have the same graphics with significantly improved gameplay than the contrary. Of course, I wouldn't buy a second time, if I wasn't planing on replaying it a couple time, but that goes for graphics changes too..
I understand you only is interested if theres a big gap in graphics (and don't think you're wrong), but saying that its not worth because is available on Wii U means that no remake is worthwhile since they can port nearly anything to VC.
And it does make sense, because remaking an N64 or below game in HD cost much more money, time and is way more complex than one on Wii or GC (because they have to remodel everything or won't be any better than an remake for 3DS). That's why WWHD made more sense to Nintendo than MMHD, less sales but much more gain.
And since I talked about WWHD, thats a borderline example for me. The graphics didn't change much, but they took out annoying parts, speed up slow things, made an harder mode and give an decent improvements with the gamepad. And that raised a lot the replay value. I don't have the original but even if I had and it was playable on Wii U, I would be ok in buying it.

RennanNT

RennanNT commented on Video: What Could The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward...:

@ikki5 Only GC and 3DS then? Everything else is or can be on the VC..

To me, if there's to be an HD remake, I hope is a game which can greatly benefit from the gamepad. Like Xenoblade, which menus would be several times better with a touch screen and with info like quest or skill tree always at hand.. I would probably buy it again even if the graphics were the same...
