Raiko commented on Combat Core Is What You'd Get If Super Smash B...:

I think there's a promising little game here. For sure, the stages aren't visually appealing, but this looks more like a proof-of-concept, rather than a final build of the game. Some stages inspired by the characters themselves wouldn't go a miss. It would nice to hear more about the combat too.

Raiko commented on bAll or Nothing is Next From Nexis Games on Wii U:

It looks just like Percy's Predicament. If i'd put something like that together at Uni, i'd have failed. There doesn't seem to be any redeeming qualities about the game. It's not that it looks mechanically simple, or graphically basic, but because there's no imagination and a clear lack of effort. It looks completely soulless.

When X-Type Plus came out I was pleasantly surprised. I had high hopes for future Web Developed games on Wii U. It's a shame such games like that will be sandwiched by such poor cash-ins like this.

Feminism isn't just about the sexualisation of women. That's really only scratching a tiny part of the surface. It's about how both males and females are stereotypically portrayed in all walks of life (both physically and mentally). It's about the constant reinforcing of stereotypes that change the way we think from a young age and how we treat each other as adults. It's as much about seeing women as physically and emotionally weaker, or (in this case) as sexual objects as it is seeing men being violent, cold, powerful, brute or hench. It's about ensuring we don't naturally expect something of one sex, and something completely different of the other.

When (apparently) nearly every female character in a game just happens to have large breasts pointing towards the screen, it's more than arguable that this is intentionally feeding a sexist stereotype and will likely offend (or put-off) some people.

These aren't industry-breaking issues, but this is why console gaming is still so male-orientated. It's a shame it has taken so long for gaming to really discuss and consider these stereotypes and their impact on the shape and size of the industry.

These aren't new issues and this isn't a bandwagon people are only just jumping on. It has an incredibly long history. Cinema had to tackle these issues, religion is still tackling these issues and society has been tackling these issues for hundreds of years.

Raiko commented on Review: XType Plus (Wii U eShop):

It's a great game for the price. It's massively addictive. Even without the leaderboards i've clocked in eight hours in 4 days. Very enjoyable!

Raiko commented on XType Plus Delayed in North America Due to Onl...:

A shame indeed. I enjoyed what little time I had playing it, but I could never access the leaderboards and after one go at each mode, the game was no longer playable. I had 5 crashes inside 10 minutes.

I hope they fix this soon as I do want to play more of it.

Will this not face some legal challenge? Many of the tracks are slightly altered tracks from Super Mario Kart. The rings are ripped straight out of Sonic. I can't help but feel that this has borrowed a bit too heavily, rather than focused on original content.

Raiko commented on Chasing Aurora Receives Permanent Price Reduct...:

I really want to support these guys because they've given it there all on the eShop. It's just the demo was really off putting. It's not a badly made game, it just didn't capture my interest. There's not a lot to it, unfortunately.

I think the hate towards EA and yearly sports games comes down the incredible similarities between each iteration. Every year EA seems to boast a number of differences, and yet Fifa 08 plays a lot like Fifa 13. The yearly upgrades are less than most games get in terms of patching. Tiger Woods is another series that follows the same formula. The upgrades are so minimal, you could probably skip half a decades worth of games before justifying the £30 for a list of gameplay tweaks and kit updates.

@geonjaha Fallblox/Crashmo changed the formula enough to make it a worthy sequel. Rather than experimenting with routes up a pixelated image, you had to take a step back and figure out how to get the blocks of much simpler images to fall into place before acting. It's so much harder, too.
