Re: Rogue-Lites/Likes for Nintendo Switch

Quarth

I'm new to this genre, but have The Binding of Isaac and Darkest Dungeon to Switch.

BoI is very fun, but haven't got the time to fully explore it yet.

I got Darkest Dungeon this week. It's extremely complex, but I think it's easier to play on the Switch in handheld mode as the touch screen makes going through the detailed menu not as difficult as with the controller.
The complex menu system aside, this seems very satisfying, although hard as hell. But that's part of its charm: it's almost as if you're supposed to die... a lot.

Just got the physical copy of this game. Haven't played the previous game, so I'm new to this series. Seems fun!

XC2 has a lot of flaws, but an "overly complex" battle system isn't one of them.

My gripes with the game are more the annoying compass, the bad sound design (the music is awesome, but the mix is sometimes horrible with the music drowning out the dialouge, as is some of the delivery from the voice actors) and an inconsistent tone in the story telling, with it jumping wildly between being serious and not (and sometimes the soundtrack doesn't help, as the music sometimes really doesn't fit the mood of a scene).

Dumbing down the battle system would make the game dull. Sure, there are a lot of things to keep track of, but once you get the hang of it, it's very satisfying, even though I can see it's not for everyone, but does it has to be? There should have been a way to be able to view some kind of battle guide ingame, but that's a minor complaint from me. Overall, I think the system is good and some other people have said it better than I in this thread.

Re: Do you still love your Switch?

Quarth

As a person who works fulltime and have a lot of other stuff to do during my spare time, I have the luxury of having too many games to play on the Switch, and there are more coming. I've managed to collect over 20 games in a short time and many of them are real time sinkers, so yeah, I have a lot of games to play. I just need to find the time.

For me there's no drought and I must say, that with the Switch, I now actively try to find some time to play every evening. I love this console, part of it because of its brilliant design, but most because of all the good to great games in its library.

The only thing I wish for are some apps like YouTube, Netflix, HBO, and so on.

But a lack of games? Nope, cannot see it.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2

I think this game is good so far. Not great as the first one (which I played on 3DS), but still good. That said, I'm not too far into the game, chapter 4, so it might get better.

What annoys me about the game is the sound design and the sometimes not fitting choice of music (even though the music on its own is really awesome). Sometimes they play like a really fast paced hard rock number during dialouges which either doesn't fit the mood of the scene or is so loud you can barely here what they are saying and have to rely on the subtitles. And in some parts the characters expressions doesn't blend that well with the tone of the dialouge, and sometimes the dialouge is really bad.

The map is kinda confusing. Sometimes it can be hard to tell where to go, even if you follow the compass.

But in the grand scheme of things, these are minor complaints. The world design is gorgeous (especially inside that titan), the graphics are for the most part beautiful, the characters are likeable (if somewhat flat and not considering the typical JRPG stereotypes and sexism), the music is, as previously mentioned, really great, the battle system is complex, but fun, the controls are easy to grasp, the story is engaging (while not as much as the first game so far).

Hoping to get some more time to play it. Got stuck at some barrels, Poppi isn't levelled up enough to be able to examine them yet.

Re: First game purchase for switch

You can't go wrong with either, but start with Zelda. It's an amazing adventure and a gaming experience like no other. But Skyrim is also good, just a little grittier and rawer.

I think Zelda's map is bigger. Storywise I guess the Skyrim lore is a little deeper, but I haven't finished either yet. Both will last you very long.

Re: Dark Souls remastered May 25

I've never played a Dark Souls game before, so I'm excited about this. Preorder is made.

How would you recommend a newcomer to approach this game?

Re: Your Latest Switch Purchase

Rayman Legends Definitive Edition. Haven't played it before. Lovely game with gorgeous graphics. The only minus is the somewhat confusing menu system. There's almost too much content.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

This game is incredible. I'm over 70 hours in. I've yet to meet Ganon, but every other mission in the main story is completed. But I just don't want to go to Ganon yet. So much left to explore!

Re: Super Bomberman R

Quarth

Hi! New user and Switch/3DS/retro handheld collector here!

I just recently bought Super Bomberman R for the Switch and I'm experiencing problems with the Pro Controller when playing the Story Mode while the Switch is docked. The character starts to run by itself, mostly directing the bottom right part of the stage. This is frustrating as the controls are an important part of the gameplay.

I tried to play in handheld mode with the Joycons attached to the Switch and there were no problems at all. So I think it has to do with the Pro Controller. But it works fantastic with all my other games on the system, that's what seems so strange.

Anyone else who has experienced this? Any recommendations? Thanks!
