Odd, I've been hearing nothing but good things about this game. Most of the games apparently have an advanced controls option the second time you play them and exploring the island and looking for hidden treasures looks like a lot of fun.
It looks like it actually clips on at the top of the Wiimote and uses the Wiimote's intrared camera for the touch detection. Clever, but very impractical, so I doubt this will ever really be produced.
Looks like it would be very easy to lose track of which gnom you are with the tiny characters and seemingly lack of color-coding. Also a shame that it's not an 8 player game, even though there can be 8 onscreen characters. Still looks like it could be fun, so I'll keep my eye on it.
Board games can be awesome, but this one seems way too much based on luck. It seems like the only choices you get to make are when to use items. I prefer a board game that requires strategic thinking instead of rolling some dice over and over.
"The four characters you can choose from are your standard anime affair" More like a western cartoon style that badly tries to copy an anime look. It's a real shame that there's no character diversity as that would have made it far more interesting to me.
You should link to the html page with the swf embedding code instead of linking directly to the swf. Now we can see all the offscreen stuff we're not supposed to see.
Great review, and one of my favorite games ever. There's one small mistake: "For instance, a sword will often best an axe, scoring two strikes instead of one and having a higher chance of hitting" Hitting twice is not due to the weapons triangle, but relies on the character's speed and weight of the weapon. A fast axe user can still score two strikes against a slow sword user.
@The Fox: Compare Fire Emblem (GBA) to Radiant Dawn and you'll still see quite a few differences. On the Wii, you're able to shove people, mounted units can move, attack and move again, shopping is done between levels, there's a third class upgrade, terrain height comes into play, all characters have biorythms, the support system works differently, there are bronze items, characters have skills. Quite a lot of small changes and enhancements actually.
Nice! I just finished the first one a few days ago (loved it) and haven't gotten the second game yet, so I don't mind waiting for a pricedrop for the third game. I hate that we're not getting an English version here in the Netherlands though, so I'll have to import.
Interesting way of looking at it. This was probably one of the first months that the DS was outsold by the 360, and those Wii numbers aren't exactly high either. Still respectable though.
Oh wow, they really need to hire some kind of graphics artist. That logo is absolutely horrible, and who thought it was a good idea to make the trailer dark and blurry? Maybe the gameplay is good, but that was a really bad trailer.
@KingMike: On average a retail game gets you 200 to 250 stars and 50 stars for every Wiiware/DSiWare/VC game. So you'd need codes from about 10-12 games.
It's hilarious when played with the right people, but I suppose it would be rather boring if you don't have anyone who wants to act foolish with you. I'm glad I got it, even though it's not free here in Europe.
I'm hoping for some info on the wiiware demo's. The test period ended several months ago now and it would be nice if they roll out the full demo system soon.
Too bad we don't get the demo here in Europe. From the videos I've watched on the Nintendo Channel, it looks like the text in the game is ridiculously tiny, which is always pretty annoying. I don't suppose there's an option to increase the font size for ingame text?
@JateGuitar: Thanks! Sounds like there are at least some improvements. Still, I'd rather buy Shining Force 2, which seems to be much more interesting to me. (I liked Shining Force 1 a lot better than Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen)
I won't be buying it if the gameplay is still the same as the SNES game. I'm a big strategy fan, but I found March of the Black Queen to be really boring. The main problem for me was the low amount of strategy and the lack of ingame explanations (I had tons of items with no idea what they did) I played the last 10 levels or so by doing something else while the enemies just got themselves killed.
So does OB64 improve these things? Are there any item descriptions this time?
I've never beaten Bowser's Castle on Super Hard, but I did beat it on Very Hard and every other song on Super Hard, so the difficulty was just perfect for me.
Awesome game and my first DDR experience. I haven't played it in a long time though. I loved the music in it and I hope they'll make a sequel some day with more Nintendo music.
