Didn't Nintendo curse the last two CoDs by not letting Activision announce the game as early as the other versions? I remember the BO2 announcement being really late and Ghosts was rumoured to not exist on Wii U right up until release....

I don't think Wii U is the problem. It stands a reasonable chance of meeting their meagre sales expectations and Mario Kart 8 and Christmas go together pretty well. I've never thought Smash was much of a system seller but it will give a similar hardware boost to MK8 and the two of them could clean up at Christmas if Nintendo don't completely neglect Wii U advertising.

The 3DS needs something major to reignite sales but I can't see that happening with their 2014 lineup.

Is Midtown Crazy Race going to turn out to be 90s arcade racer? That would be sweet!

No it's an Android racing game that might be bearable on the gamepad but probably looks horrible on the TV

I'd like to see them expand upon the minigame. Ninja star throwing was good but there was not enough levels and I would prefer each stage to be broken down for high scores rather than having to finish them all. If they could throw in some Swordplay and other origami Ninja activities it'd be a day one buy for me.

The only quality control Nintendo should be doing is ensuring the bad games can't break your Wii U. It would be nice if they could ensure quality but the potential to miss out on the next big craze is too big a risk to take. Mr Nintendo might have thought Minecraft wasn't a worthy game etc.

@Kirk It is slightly worrying that he's not saying it's a done deal but he is more or less saying they're trying to put it in. In a demo with IGN or Metro Gamecentral it was allegedly confirmed.

It would sell far more if people can play awesome levels without having to build them. I bet they're half worried about the fact people will recreate games they still charge a premium for like Mario All Stars!

I'm tempted but Wii U Tennis and Grand Slam Tennis are probably enough for me.
I have a Nintendo network promotion £5 voucher which I am going to cash in. Not sure what to get though. I know the minute I use it up, they'll announce two N64 games on VC that would cost me £2.50 each to upgrade.

Nintenjoe64 commented on Sega Still Considering Its Options For The Wii...:

@Peach64 I sometimes wonder if Sega are allergic to my money when they refuse to re-release Sega Rally. It was the sole reason I bought a Saturn and I bet there are plenty of 30-somethings that would rebuy. Maybe all the Castrol, Lancia and Toyota stuff means there are too many licencing issues.

Which reminds me, what happened to 90s arcade racer? The last I heard it was coming out in June and that the director of the game hated Wii U.....

@sillygostly @Emblem
On the Wii, the OS appeared to have a very good emulator built in for every console. The ROMs were only ever so slightly larger than their originals (with all the games I have). Nintendo have already said they were working on something like this for Wii U but it seems they are not devoting too much time to it, which is understandable because they've got bigger fish to fry at the moment.

Nintenjoe64 commented on Talking Point: Should Nintendo Be Promoting Th...:

I said I didn't know.

I think they should mention its unique-ish features rather than try to make out it can rival an iPad. Parents give the tablet to their kids on long journeys and Wii U would need to be plugged in for that to work. Parents also use it for things like SkyGo when they're not at home which also leaves it behind the iPad.

What would help them is if they advertised the almost seamless transition from gaming to internetting and the fact that someone needing the TV will not affect a game of CoD, Mario Kart or whatever. There are other areas they could go after when selling to parents such as the fact there aren't games with pop ups designed to make children spend money on something they shouldn't.

Nintenjoe64 commented on Tekken 7 Revealed At Evo 2014, Platforms Uncon...:

I doubt this is coming to Wii U because they wouldn't even port Soul Calibur 2 HD Online which is a port of an old mulitplatform game that sold best on a struggling Nintendo console. Not to mention the fact they will want Smash Bros. to monopolise the fighter market on Wii U before they release any other fighters on it.

Everyone on this site was lauding over Sonic Racing selling 250,000 units on Wii U but Tekken Tag 2, a late port, selling 130,000 units to an empty userbase is suddenly terrible? It only sold 300,000 copies to all of the 80,000,000 Xbox360 owners. I've never struggled to get a game going online on my Wii U version but the additional features are amazing and Namco are probably a bit miffed by the fact it didn't sell better..

Nintenjoe64 commented on Play: It's The Second Nintendo Life Community ...:

I was sharing my Mii amongst 4 people and we all did atrociously. In the end I was happy to get 250 points because after 16 races we had only accumulated about 70 points.

@ThomasBW84 was the only NL person I recognised. I doubt you remember the incident but a racer called Joey rammed you off the track in the Electrodome, just after you'd taken a few people out with a flower. I thought I was on to something good and then finished 11th.

Nintenjoe64 commented on Poll: Which Is The Best Legend Of Zelda Game?:

For reference I'm 32 and my first Zelda was the original. I voted for Twilight Princess expecting it to get an unfairly low score but for me it's an equal tie between ALttP, TP and OoT or even a 5-way tie with MM and WW added.
Link to the Past is what defined the series for me. It's probably one of the reasons I love games today. It wasn't prohibitively hard for me aged 11 but it wasn't pathetically easy like today's AAA games. I'd love a fully 3D remake.
Ocarina of Time defined 3D adventure games. It's aged badly but the story and puzzle/dungeon mechanics are still amazing. It was an excellent 3D take on the SNES game.
Twilight Princess gets too much hipster hate. It lacked some of the sidequests and side plot magic of previous Zeldas but it was still a fantastic set of dungeons, a beautiful (but overly sparse) Hyrule and great gameplay which still holds up today unlike its N64 cousins.
