Nope, he said in the interview that players looking to speed run will pick Toad, so you most likely have a choice when you start. Besides, it would be hard to get a good time with 3 others lagging behind.

This game is really awesome! I got it on Wii, Wii U, and the remake on DS! But yeah, the DS one is the best. It has so much more.
Revenge of the King- Basically a remake of KDL's Extra Mode
Meta Knightmare Ultra- Play through Spring Breeze, Dyna Blade, Great Cave Offensive, Revenge of Meta Knight and Milky Way Wishes as Meta Knight
Helper to Hero- Like Arena, but play as any of the Helpers
The True Arena- Boss rush of all the bosses exclusive to Ultra
And also 3 more sub games.The only downside is that you need two game cards to play most of it with 2 players.

Well I already downloaded NSMB 2 and Paper Mario (and a LOT of eshop games) on my 3ds, so I pretty much have to buy retail now. But I have been downloading on Wii U.

@Ernisdy that's exactly what I thought too! Both cartoony fighting games that are surprisingly violent. I loved CC, so maybe I'd get this.

3D Mario and Mario Kart worked wonders for 3DS, and soon they'll do the same for Wii U-and this time, there'll even be Super Smash Bros.

I'll probably get this, it's a pretty unique genre and I've been waiting for a 3DS game with a graphical style like this (most other games are 8 bit or 3D models).

@Yosher I saw the Mario Chess Set in stores once, and was kind of shocked that the pawns were coins and shells, rather than toads and goombas.
