Monkeyofthefunk commented on UK Retailer Argos Drops Wii U Premium to £179.99:

Just as a follow up, no Argos in North Wales has this in stock at the moment. It looks like the offer was just to sell off the non-bundle consoles. So scare over, Argos are supporting the Wii U. Only problem is, I can't justify paying £249 for one at the moment, at least not with games I've already played.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on UK Retailer Argos Drops Wii U Premium to £179.99:

I thought this was great news. I sold my Wii U a couple of months back because as a family, we wanted an Xbox One. Since then I've been looking at getting another, so with this news I called in to get one. The didn't have any in. So I asked and the assistant told me that they won't be getting any in. I asked about the offer and she said it was whilst stocks last. I asked if it was coming back in at full price and she said, head office info said until stocks last and we are not getting anymore stock. I don't understand, are they stopping supporting the Wii U?

Monkeyofthefunk commented on $1.2 Billion Wiped Off Nintendo's Market Value...:

Nintendo needs to pull all remaining Wii U's from the shelf and start again. Run a huge marketing campaign, maybe even change the console's name. They also need new ip's!! Mario, Kirby, Zelda etc have been around forever. To get new players, new Wii U owners, Ninty need something new.
It's not looking good and god knows where they would be now without the 3ds.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's Wii U Struggles Brin...:

Nintendo's struggle is just the tip of the gaming industries melting iceberg.
Sales of the Wii U are struggling and the big N cannot count on the 3DS for much longer. Soon everybody will have one and the uptake will slow. But it's not just Ninty that are struggling, Playstation's parent company Sony are finding it hard to compete with other major Manufacturers. In fact the only company on a safe footing are Microsoft, both in the Software, PC and Console gaming divisions. I love Nintendo and always will but they cannot carry on like this. Profits are down, forecasts are lowered. I want to play Nintendo games for a very, very long time and I reckon the only way is for them to go 3rd party. What is wrong with Mario Kart on Playstation or SSB on Xbox? As long as Nintendo hold the rights, nothing has to change. Sega have done well as a software only company. The other option is to see if there is anything left of Sega hardware design team and join forces to create the Nintendo Dream 64 Drive Cube. We can support Nintendo as much as we want and say they will be around forever but things will only get harder.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Hyrule Warriors Is Zelda Meets Dynasty Warrior...:

Oh joy, what an inspiring Direct we had. One new game and it's a hack 'N slash with Zelda. Dynasty Warrior games start off well but get boring very, very quickly. There was nothing in this direct to justify my second Wii U purchase. I do fear that 2014 will be more break than make for Wii U. I hope I'm wrong because my Xbox One is currently gathering dust so I need the U to get me gaming again in 2014.

Before I get called a Fanboy again, I bought my second Wii U about 4 weeks ago and when I looked for games, there was nothing that jumped out at me. I'm sticking with the console until next year when my all time fave franchise, Mario Kart, is released. I hope Nintendo pull their fingers out and get some quality IP's in 2014.

@Unit_DTH I was referring to the Xbox One to be honest. The cloud AI feature is the one thing I'm really looking forward to. I know it's old fashioned but we have a lot of Blu Ray films as well. You can't play them on the Wii U. The features like Netflix, iPlayer etc have been running on the last gen for about 3 or 4 years. The up and coming gen should be about bringing a new gaming experience to us, the gamers. The gamepad was a great idea, but it's under used. I had the pleasure of playing the Xbox One and Kinect is that new experience. It's much better than the first version and I sort of stood there thinking, imagine what Nintendo could have done with this tech. But then I remembered the hundreds of terrible sports and party games published for the Wii in its last 2 years. I love Nintendo but I honestly think, unless the Wii U sells well when MK8, SSBU and Zelda U are released, this will be there last "under the TV" console. I hope I'm wrong. I think Ninty need to drop the gimmicks and go for all out gaming. Sell the Wii U with a pro pad and not the game pad for about £149 and watch it sell.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of...:

Here's an explanation of Next Gen...
Next Gen means the next generation, not better graphics, motion control, high resolution or social integration. It is just the next step, the next level of progression. That just happens to include all of the above. Consoles need to be more to succeed.
Without the proper use of the gamepad, the Wii U is too close to the tech used in the last gen to be considered "the next step". it doesn't do anything new, anything WOW that the Gamecube and Wii didn't really do.
With the right 3rd party support and entertainment apps, I would quite happily have the Wii U sitting under our TV as our box of choice but it's not to be. Nintendo needed the Wii U to be more than just a console to sell it to the masses. The Wii was a great gimmick for the whole family to enjoy but now Nintendo have lost that niche. I love Nintendo but without my Mario glasses on, I fear the One and 4 will push the Wii U off the end of their already shrinking shelf space.

DStroke.

I love Nintendo and I grabbed a Wii U as soon as the Mrs said we had enough money ;). But now I have traded it in because it was sat under our tele turning dust coloured. I'm not that interested in Pikmin 3, I've played it before, all be it not it HD and without a gamepad.
The problem Nintendo have with the Wii U is the lack of imagination. They have The Wonderful 101 but where are the other new IP's?
How long can the Wii U survive with another Mario 2d, a remake of a Zelda game that most Nintendo fans have already finished, another SSB and another Mario Kart?
I love those games but I need something new in my life, for gods sake I've played 7 Mario Karts!
If they developed some new games with that Nintendo Magic, they would grab a few deserters, until then, I'm afraid it's going to be a bleak winter for Wii Users.

rmeyer, have you read the list of exclusives at launch for the PS4 and Xbox One? Each have at least 5. How many full price retail exclusives does the Wii U have after a year?
It's easy to keep defending Nintendo and the Wii U but there is no software support, just eshop full of mobile remakes.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on IGN Editor: If Wii U Doesn't Pick Up, Nintendo...:

You can say what you want about reports like this but if the Wii U has a bad Xmas period, and with the launches of the new Xbox and Playstation in November, Nintendo may be forced to stop production for a short period. The reason? They have a massive overstock of hardware. It's not selling and the fact that the PS4 day one pre-order for the UK and Europe is higher than the total European sales of the Wii U for it's first year so far, it doesn't look good.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Asda Stores No Longer Stocking New Wii U Syste...:

It's easy to brush this under the carpet but in our local Game, the Wii U only has a shelf of games and no hardware space. The manager said they have sold 2 Wii U's in the last month. Our local Tesco Extra does not stock the console and hasn't for at least 3 months and only has Pikmin 3 and Most Wanted in stock and they are in the Wii section. HMV has no hardware and only 3 games now. Just to sum this up, Game has a full section for the Vita and a massive section for the Wii. Wii U can't sell more consoles if the stock isn't there to sell. I know you can get them anywhere online but not everybody buys online. Argos is still charging £249 for the basic pack, so no hope there.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Wii U Finally Hits One Million Sales in Japan:

I really want the Wii U to succeed but with the PS4 and Xbone launches coming up, it's going to struggle. Mario 3D won't be enough to save it and if people plough their hard earned cash into the M$ or Sony consoles and all of their launch games, they won't have the money for a Wii U and SSB or MK.
If the Wii U has bad holiday sales, I can't see it recovering because people just don't buy consoles in spring.

Shop to sell the Basic Pack brand new on ebay for £179. I bought mine from them about 3 months ago. It's been cheap for along time. You can pick up a Premium online for £249! People still aren't buying it at this price point.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Iwata: We Are To Blame For Poor Wii U Sales:

He is being honest but haven't we all know this for about 3 or 4 months? It's not news!
If Nintendo don't do something, and quick, the Wii U won't be on the shelves after Xmas. I have seen them go for £120-£140 on ebay (used basic pack). People are selling them as quickly as they are being bought. I know they stay in users hands but for how long?

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Ubisoft Delayed Rayman Legends On Wii U In Fea...:

Wii U's user base means that without a boost in hardware sales, 3rd party publishers/developers will lose a lot of money. It's not good business and unless the Wii U sells well over Xmas, against the might of the PS4 and erm...X(?), we might not see the new year in. I don't like to admit it but it smacks of the dreamcast and Jaguar. Some very average launch titles followed by a trickle of games over the next year, followed by the console being pulled.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Iwata: Nintendo Searching For A "Different Exp...:

@Bigmac1910. Totally agree with you. A console is a console if there are games to play on it (and they are any good). Nintendo haven't released any killer games in the first 8 months of the consoles life. It's getting ridiculous now. I have a console gathering dust and the only time I turn it on is when I play Black Ops 2. Even then it's only on for a few minutes because without DLC the game is getting boring. Nintendo should go back to the N64/Gamecube days, where it wasn't about tech it was about the cracking games.

All Nintendo have to do is RELEASE SOME GAMES!!! But I fear Mario 3D, Pikim 3 and Wonderful 101 will not save them once Sony and M$ release their shiny new consoles this winter. I popped into my local Game a few days ago to sort my PS4 pre-order and they have even less shelf space for the Wii U now. It's taken up by the PS4 and Xbone pre-order boxes. I asked the lads there how the Wii U games are selling and they said about 4 or 5 a week. :(

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Molyneux: Nintendo Is "Brilliant" At Attractin...:

He makes a valid point. So far I've finished Lego City, Mario U and ZombiU. All the other games on the system are multi platform I've already played and completed. So I had to turn to eshop and there is a mish-mash of games similar to the games available on Android and ios. They are priced a lot higher than they are on those platforms. This console so far has been a let down. No killer games, nothing new to excite me. I liked ZombiU at first but it then became a drag having to trek halfway across a map when you die. The games heading our way don't float my boat either. Another Mario game and another Pikmin game. The big N is running out of ideas and quickly. I fear by the time SSB and Mario Kart are out, it may be too late as people would have chosen a side in the big console war coming up this Xmas.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Feature: The Big Nintendo E3 Survey:

I love Nintendo and I will but this E3 wasn't great. I've had a trawl through all the companies videos, blogs etc and Sony walked it. Nintendo did well but it was same old same old. When will we get something new? I've been gaming since 1980 and with Nintendo since the NES. Now we are 5 generations along and we are getting 2d side scrolling Mario games, side scrolling Donkey Kong games, Smash Bros and Mario Kart (the last 2 are my favourite Nintendo IP's) but this isn't enough. Nintendo used to be creative but can anybody honestly say that they still are? I know Sony and M$ churn out the same GOW, Killzone etc but they haven't been doing it as long as Nintendo. I was hoping that at E3 Nintendo would blow us away with a new IP, something as creative as Zelda was when it was first announced, but no, we got the same stuff yet again. I was excited at first but now I'm bored. Sony have some great new stuff coming out like Knack, Driveclub plus many others whilst Nintendo give us another iteration of Mario, Zelda, SSB, Mario Kart. I will stick with my Wii U until the PS4 launch and if it's not improved by then, it may get traded in. I am enjoying 3ds but I fear Wii U is in it's last few months of it's life. I know it's it's first year but there has been nothing new or exciting and a new console should have great games. I can't name one that's been released so far.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Nintendo Download: 20th June (Europe):

Another very disappointing offering on eshop for the Wii U this week. Luigi U is just Mario dressed up with a new move or two. Why do Nintendo keep giving us 2d side scrollers from NES and for the Wii U? This isn't what we want, we've moved forward. Pre-ordered my PS4 and was going to keep my Wii U but unless Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3 turn out to be amazing games, it's going to be traded in near Xmas. I'll pick another one up when SSB and MK8 get released.

Yesterday I pre-ordered a PS4 to compliment my Wii U. For me, this years Wii U line up isn't that strong and my current library is mainly indie and VC games. The console isn't being played that often. I will buy games like Watchdogs for my Wii U because interaction (gamepad features) mean more to me than slightly better graphics. Saying that, I'm more pumped for the PS4 launch games than I am for the Wii U's 2013 library. I know next year will be massive with SSB, MK8, possible Zelda etc but this year is about the PS4 for me. Nintendo needed a big gun for this year like MK8 because Mario 3D looks a little tired in the demos and videos. Maybe Mario as a platformer is coming to a end. Just a thought.

I found the gamepad use in ZombiU good and the fact that you can interact with your inventory, maps, comms and use a scanner/camera without pausing the game adds to the flow. Can you imagine a ZombiU where you had to pause everytime you wanted to do something? The tension would be gone.

I think EA should be renamed Gollum! Was once Smeagol a happy go lucky friend to everyone then he found The Ring or "Microshaft" and was corrupted by micro transactions, DRM and exclusive DLC for the precious ONE. People keep moaning about a lack of games. I'm still having fun with SMBU and there's Luigi U to come in the next 2 weeks, then Game and Wario then in July it's Pikmin 3. We've also got Wind Waker, Mario U, Watchdogs, Rayman, Wonderful 101, Splinter Cell, Ghosts and Donkey Kong. There's only 5-6 months left of the year folks. It's looking a lot brighter than the PS3 and 360's line ups.

I'm not bothered about new flashy graphics, I have my PC for that with better specs than both PS4/Xbone. I love Nintendo games , they give us something different to other consoles, PC etc. The Wii U is an excellent piece of hardware, the gamepad is a positive invention and if the games start to come out, it will sell. I just hope it's not too late.
