Despite it, probably, being a good game, it does nothing to alter some people's perceptions of the Wii U being a "kiddy" console. In fact it may just enforce those beliefs.

It will sell well within the established user base but with limited shelf space and that "kiddy" tag, it won't shift consoles by the bucket load.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's Plans for DLC and Mi...:

DLC means more money for Nintendo and if that means that Nintendo is around as a hardware developer for longer, I'm happy.

This only becomes an issue if the DLC is pay to win. If it's costumes, characters & weapons/vehicles, then it's a choice.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Download Card Prompts Speculation Over DLC Que...:

Nintendo making money from DLC that helps keep them in business is fine by me as long as their prices remain good value. £11 for the MK8 DLC it's excellent value for money. As for on disc locked content behind an amiibo paywall, don't buy the amiibo. It most certainly won't be a game changer.

@Zombie_Barioth Their image was tarnished by the Wii. You have to take into account that console gaming is bigger than ever and a lot of the younger gamers who have more time on their hands, grew up in the Wii era, so their image of Nintendo is influenced by that console.

As for grey games, I play them on my PC and they are becoming repetitive and unimaginative. I know there can be a balance but is there currently a platform that offers that?

Nintendo offers an alternative to PS4, Xbox and PC. There's nothing wrong with bringing third party games to the Wii U, but it won't change people's perceptions of Nintendo's home console.

Nintendo have to go all in, or stick, when it comes to grabbing the COD, Fifa and BF crowd.

The 3DS has sold well, so you stated people still like Nintendo games. So why aren't those people buying the Wii U?

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda on Wii U Ma...:

@Zombie_Barioth So at last you agree with my initial point. It's Nintendo's image, the family friendly, almost childish image that holding them back but it's an image that makes them different, that makes them the alternative in a world of grey and brown games. I hope they don't change but for their financial security, they made need to.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda on Wii U Ma...:

@Zombie_Barioth It wasn't the lack of 3rd party devs why "gamers" jumped ship. The reason was the Wii. Yes it's sales were amazing but a lot of people were put off by the crazy amount of mini and party games.

The Wii U has had to fight the stigma created by the casual Wii. That's the reason the bulk of Wii U sales are to fans of Nintendo. I'm a massive Nintendo fan, currently my only consoles are new 3DS & a Wii U, but my mates prefer the other 2. They never got into Nintendo and not because of the lack of 3rd party games.

Even 3rd party games wouldn't give the Wii U a boost, it's just how people perceive Nintendo.

Yes the 3DS has sold very well but it's not a saturated market.

My wife and daughter have 3ds consoles but not because they love Nintendo, it's because they like mobile games.

The Wii U is a great console but it can't compete on sales with the PS4 & Xbox One.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda on Wii U Ma...:

@Caryslan That's not a valid point. The N64 was around in a different era.

Nowadays as long as Mario, Zelda and the rest are the faces of Nintendo's new console, they will never win over gamers from other consoles. They are used to Master Chief, Nathan Drake Etc.

Nintendo are unique and I love them for that, I love their games and characters, but financially it's not working for them. I hope that changes very soon.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda on Wii U Ma...:

Does anybody know what NX is? No, thought not.

If it is a home console it will follow the trend and sell badly. The reason? Nintendo is not fashionable. People argue over PS4 & Xbox One like they do over their Android & iPhones. Nintendo has a kiddy tag. We know it's not true but that's the tag.

The only way for Nintendo to shake that tag is for them to throw their standards out of the window and develop a console to match/beat the rest. They must also court devs like Rockstar, EA, Activision etc with the offer of a system powerful enough to run their new engines and with a marketing campaign that's alien to Nintendo's current colorful, family friendly approach.

Personally I hope they don't because I'm bored of grey games, but financially they may need to do just that.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Talking Point: The Legend of Zelda on Wii U Ma...:

Ok can we stop with the NX will be shown next year rumours. There will be more information on NX but I doubt very much that NX will be on show next year. I believe it will be shown in 2017 and will launch then as well.
What NX is, is another discussion. I don't think it's a new home console in a traditional sense. I believe this gen is the last of the stand alone consoles. I think it will be a set top box which will stream games and media. NX could even be a streaming service for Wii U, 3DS, PC and mobile.

No matter what we as Nintendo fans think about the delay, it's bad news for the Wii U. It needed Zelda to sell consoles this Christmas, and now it's left with Xenoblade, which releases in early summer, Splatoon which is unlikely to sell consoles and Starfox, our only hope. That is if Starfox gets a 2015 release.

I hope Ninty have something big up their sleeve for E3.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on The Legend of Zelda for Wii U No Longer Set fo...:

I was about to buy another Wii U so this is a disappointment. I keep hearing that it will be coming out on the NX. I'm not sure that NX will be a new console. I admit the Wii U is not making Nintendo a lot of money, it's a great console but not a money maker, so NX could be a replacement but I think it's something completely different.

It could be a unification of platforms, including Wii U, 3DS, PC and mobile, a sort of hub. Or a game streaming service that allows you to play games on those platforms. It's already been mentioned that this gen could be the last of the dedicated consoles as we move into set top boxes that stream media.

I hope it's a powerful console that shows what Nintendo can do, as long as it's release date is well into 2018. Then I can happily buy my Wii U.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Ubisoft Reconfirms Watch Dogs For Fall 2014 Re...:

I have just completed Watchdogs on the PS4 and it was ok but nothing special.

It was one of the most overhyped, generic games I've played for a long time. It was fun but nothing new or exciting and it pales in comparison to GTA V. There are 2 reasons I would buy this again, because of the promise of gamepad features, and to support 3rd party games on the Wii U so we get more of them.

As a stand alone game, it's just not that good.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Mario Kart 8 Sells More Than 1.2 Million Units...:

I sold my Wii U last year because of a lack of games but I knew I would always come back for MK8. What a game! I picked up Pikmin 3 as my free game and that's a load of fun too.
Nintendo have always produced great games and consoles and the Wii U is the best out there right now.

Let's hope E3 brings some great games.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Exclusive: Lost Wii Game, Sadness, To Be Reviv...:

@Laxeybobby Spot on. The Wii U isn't going to last unless Nintendo come up with something that blows people's minds at E3, even then 1st party titles won't cut it, they need to bring in new gamers who haven't owned a Nintendo product before. They need some 3rd party support.

The delay to Watchdogs on Wii U is a massive kick in the teeth. I honestly think with all the coverage that this game is getting, MK8 will get lost in the melee and the delay could do more damage to Wii U's sales than even the next gen launches.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Exclusive: Lost Wii Game, Sadness, To Be Reviv...:

@Laxeybobby The sales figures are about to take a massive hit because the new consoles are launching a massive amount of AAA and indie titles this summer and into the winter. I went looking for the prices of Wii U deals on our High Street yesterday. I found one row of shelf space in Game and nothing at all in HMV. I also found that the best deals at Argos are all out of stock.

Not looking good for Nintendo and the fact that they are having a big reveal of a new 3DS game at E3, means the Wii U may be frozen out again.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on Exclusive: Lost Wii Game, Sadness, To Be Reviv...:

I keep reading NL to find a reason to justify splashing out £299 on another Wii U, after selling mine last year.

When I do read Nl I find re-releases of old Nintendo games, indie games and delayed releases. The announcement that another 2d platformer is coming to Wii U, only puts a tick in the negative box.

I love Mario Kart but I'm not happy spending that amount of money for one game. I love Mario Kart but the biggest problem for Wii U sales and future game development is that MK8, the game Nintendo hopes will shift consoles, launches 3 days after Watch Dogs.

Why is this a problem? Well most gamers have an Xbox or Playstation console and will be enjoying Watchdogs so why would they want to spend money on a new console?

Once the Watchdogs fire burns out, there is the Destiny Beta. Nintendo should have released MK8 at the end of April because there was a dry spell.

I really hope I'm wrong and sales of the Wii U pick up, but I'm not holding my breath.

Monkeyofthefunk commented on UK Retailer Argos Drops Wii U Premium to £179.99:

Just as a follow up, no Argos in North Wales has this in stock at the moment. It looks like the offer was just to sell off the non-bundle consoles. So scare over, Argos are supporting the Wii U. Only problem is, I can't justify paying £249 for one at the moment, at least not with games I've already played.
