Mattiator commented on Nintendo Reveals New Super Mario Bros. 2 for 3DS:

You know what I'D love to see? Some of the creative power ups and mechanics from the 3D games (64/Sunshine/Galaxy) brought into the 2D plane! FLUDD with swappable nozzles? The ice flower? The metal box? Make the game EARN that 'new' moniker by blending classic stuff with more recent techniques!

Mattiator commented on Feature: Bargain Bin DS Games:

Here in Canada, I found like 6 used copies of Tom Clancy's EndWar on the DS going for $2 at an EBGames. It's a generic strategy game, but it's functional enough, and for two dollars it's definitely worth a purchase.

Mattiator commented on Miyamoto: "Angry Birds Would Have Been Better ...:

On the note of DS games being ported to iOS, go play Phoenix Wright on the system. It works bu it's nowhere near as elegant. I can't even fathom how hard it is to play Ghost Trick (only in Japan ATM) on an iPhone.

Mattiator commented on Australia Rates Pokémon + Nobunaga's Ambition:

Has Australia even seen ANY Nobunaga's Ambition games released? Pokemon Conquest is more generic-sounding, to be sure, but I dunno. Seems like a gamble they're taking. Mark my words, Pokemon will be in much bigger type than Nobunaga's Ambition.

Mattiator commented on This is How Game Gear Games Will Look on 3DS:

Dragon Crystal is going to be a day-one for me. Not a big fan of Sonic Drift 2, it really shows desperation when you need to put a character whose selling point is speed in an automobile to race. Might grab Shinobi depending on the reviews.

Mattiator commented on Nintendo Download: 1st March 2012 (North America):

Metroid's got the restore point features. Sure as hell beats the passcode system unless you REALLY want to use "Justin Bailey" again. Also, the sound effect on the 3DS menu is a Mario 'coin' noise, just like Super Mario Bros. I guess that's the sound for an NES title, but to be honest it would be way better to have a sound from the game emulated, i.e. a short clip of the title theme for Metroid, the 'kill enemy' sound effect for Balloon Fight, etc.

@ejamer Also, it appears the Updates section doesn't work for older updates (like the updates that appeared two weeks ago for the NES titles), still it's good to see the section finally having a purpose. Hopefully the 'Add-On Content' section of the 3DS Storage Settings section will soon as well. Just in the middle of scouring my downloaded titles list for updates. Also, I wonder if an update to Dillon's Rolling Western to utilize the Circle Pad Pro for those lefties having trouble with the game is on the way? Wishful thinking, perhaps.

Also, where's our Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure demo?

Mattiator commented on Nintendo Rejects The Binding of Isaac:

Can't say I'm too surprised. As a retail release it could have gotten through, but on a download service no doubt riddled with dumb kids and their parents, this could easily have ignited a media firestorm. Would I have liked to see it? Sure. I think Super Meat Boy definately has a better shot at arriving, since it's nowhere near as religiously charged. And since Team Meat's already 're-imagining' the game for mobile devices, it's not too much of a stretch to hope for a port.

Mattiator commented on Wii U Controller Originally Had Proper Analogu...:

I could really see this controller being used for simulation titles, especially if there was a third party controller that replaced one of the circle pads with a PC-style joystick (probably the right one) complete with buttons on the stick and all. That would make for quite an impressive show of tech: A fully-fledged simulation title... on a console! Shows off the power of the system, Nintendo's dedication to hardcore gamers, and potentially even win over some of the PC crowd. Use the touch screen to emulate multiple buttons (hopefully it will function with a finger just as well as the stylus). Imagine playing Flight Simulator or MechWarrior on something like that!

Mattiator commented on Nintendo Download: 23rd February 2012 (North A...:

So far Rolling Western's been real good. I think the real sticking point for everyone's going to be the controls. I love 'em, it gives a satisfying tactile edge to combat, but then again I loved Metroid Prime Hunters' controls as well. I would have preferred more control over your towers (where they aim, etc.), and the game is a touch overpriced. I really hope Dillon gets his own franchise, because the game and characters ooze classic Nintendo charm.

Mattiator commented on Nicalis: "The eShop Has Turned Things Around f...:

I like the idea of 'featured' games, but not at the expense of having simple categories so that I can find stuff I actually want. Why not give users the option of increasing the number of tiles per page, y'know, like the main menu of the 3DS? That would make it a lot more feasible to have more categories and whatnot.

Mattiator commented on Capcom Will Replace Evil Typo:

Way too much coming out for me to bother with Revelaitons. Still trying to get through the last 5 used games I picked up. MechAssault: Phantom War is leering at me to get back and finish it.

Mattiator commented on Kingdom Hearts Anniversary Edition Unveiled:

Depends on how much it costs. This will be my first KH game if it gets good reviews, I've been considering leaping into the series but average reviews of both 358/2 and re:coded have put me off until now.

Mattiator commented on Review: Newton Vs The Horde (WiiWare):

@Gstewart It's always good to see the developers paying attention to their reviews, and while I have yet to play a single WiiWare title (and a 2/10 review isn't inclining me to get this one, plus the fact that I'm not one for physics puzzlers), I'll keep an eye out for whatever you guys make next, since you clearly have some great ideas up your sleeves.

Mattiator commented on Unsheath Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword on 2...:

If the combat has more depth than what I'm seeing, I'll look into it. IGN gave a very positive hands-on preview of it (surprising to me considering the bashing they gave Dillon's Rolling Western, my personal pick of the known upcoming titles), but I'll probably wait on the reviews.

Mattiator commented on Icon Games: "Nintendo's Policies Put Jobs at R...:

@RichIconNew I can't say I've played a single one of your titles, but I feel that every single developer for the WiiWare service has a perfect right to complain publicly about whatever conditions have been imposed on them by their contracts. While breaching said contract isn't acceptable, letting other developers and non-developers know about what you (and I'm sure others) feel are draconic policies is perfectly fine. All power to you.

Mattiator commented on Review: Nintendo Letter Box (3DSWare):

Swapnote's quite fun so far, I've whittled away an hour drawing stuff based on eShop games, but it still needs a keyboard for us lousy printers, and the ability to attack multiple sounds, one per page? Or, even easier, just let us use all of our recordings (in other words bump the limit to 10 seconds long).

A few kinks to iron out, but I'm happy with it so far.

Mattiator commented on Game of the Year: Nintendo Life Reader Awards ...:

Very little of what I voted for won. Not too surprising, considering I voted Radiant Historia for DS game of the year (Yes, it was better than Ghost Trick and Solatorobo, at least in my opinion.) and Step Up! for WiiWare, since I don't own any Wiiware titles. Though I will need to check out FAST.
