MattL commented on Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3?:

I had to resuscitate my wallet after the Nintendo Digital Event, there wasn't a single game shown it doesn't want to open up for. Fantastic Nintendo, I smiled from ear to ear throughout and suffered a nerd headache from information overload.

MattL commented on Pandora's Tower Will Be Invading North America...:

It's a rather touching tale, in my opinion, with a very different take on the genre. I found it to be immersive, engaging and fun, with the heartfelt relationship between the two main characters maintaining my interest till the very end. The dungeons are rather simple at first, but soon become labyrinthian and challenging. Hope you guys enjoy it :)

I completely agree with Ren, Wildfire & SteveW, and the chorus of positives. This game oozes love, charm and dedication. A modern classic. I'm still laughing at the Flux Combobulator, or whatever. Ludicrously ingenious :) And how refreshing to hear such commitment from a developer. A rare breed indeed.

MattL commented on Rumour: Wii U Version Of Aliens: Colonial Mari...:

I must admit, I'd still like to try it for myself when it's released, if the gamepad integration is used well. Perhaps that could somehow add to - or enhance - the suspense like ZombiU. Further to my earlier post, my brother & I have totally different expectations of games, so whilst his opinion concerns me, it doesn't completely dissuade me from giving it a chance. Guess we'll have to wait and see :)

My brother has this on X-Box, his reaction to it isn't for innocent ears. Apparently the game suffers from a lack of atmosphere and suspense. His words, not mine. But that does appear to be the general consensus.

I was hoping they might hold the Wii U version back after listening to the feedback, but I honestly doubt they'd have the time or resources to re-work the entire game ;)

MattL commented on Developer Interview: Why The 90's Arcade Racer...:

Agreed, this would be a day one purchase without doubt if it lives up to its potential. Racing games have become a bit flat for me, and - when in need of a fix - I find myself playing N64 classics or each generation of Mario Kart.

MattL commented on Wii U Software Struggled For 2% of UK Market i...:

It's about time Nintendo began marketing its product here, the TV commercials are few and far between and engender more confusion than clarity. There seems to be a real ignorance about what the product is; my girlfriend's kids think it's a handheld that somehow connects to the Wii. And - apparently - some consumers (according to my local games retailer) have purchased Wii U games thinking they can play them on Wii. Stupidity or a lack of consumer knowledge? A bit of both, I think ;)

To be honest, I see a bright future for the console, after all it's only been out 3 months. I already have 11 games and not enough time to play them, so I'm happy. The system, for me, is perhaps the most inspirational, innovative and exciting piece of hardware out there. It's now up to Nintendo to show people precisely what its significance is.

MattL commented on Talking Point: Wii U's Beginnings and Challeng...:

@star-fox

You've basically written down my thoughts of late. Of all the friends I have with a Wii U, not one of them has any of these concerns. It feels like media-generated derogation without reason, which we do so well in Britain.

Of course, everyone has the right to opinion and news needs reporting, but picking up on the crumbs of analysts and trying to concoct them into tasty news bites doesn't do it for me, personally.

I'm enjoying the Wii U, more than happy with the games available and those on the eshop. It's a shame others of a similar mind are so quiet, as I know they are out there, perhaps they're all addicted to Miiverse ;-)

That's just my opinion and concurrence with my respected friend up there. Happy gaming folks!

Not for me, but the kids have it and it's fun to watch their spasmodic routines :)

I enjoyed the nod to Electric Six in the subheading, intentional or not ;)

MattL commented on Iwata: We Don't Want To Emulate Xbox Live and PSN:

@rjejr - That's the only thing I really wanted too, achievements are not something I am particularly bothered about. The only reward I truly want from a game is to enjoy every second of it, have great fun and, after completing it, feel self-satisfaction at having done so. But I do like to check hours played, the Wii has made me hooked on that feature. Shows me what I'm getting out of a game for my money. So I'm pleased it is included on The Wii U.

MattL commented on Feature: EU Wii U Launch Day - Live!:

@3rdSamugai - And even if not, it made me feel great :D Thanks for the sentiment, I appreciate that :) Besides, I don't mind waiting really, sure it's exciting and awesome to have it on day one (which I've always done since the N64), but I think another few weeks will serve only to enhance that excitement. I see it more as a positive that I have someone to put before myself for a change. Corny or what? ;) :D

Despite your uploading anxiety, I'm more than a little envious that you have that sexy, super-sweet console in the same room as you :) I could have just ordered one, but thought I would be selfless and ordered my girlfriend a Kindle Fire HD instead as a Christmas gift, looks like I'll have to wait a few weeks now until I can share your excitement first-hand. To everyone, I hope your new consoles arrive in good time. Happy Wii U gaming all :D

MattL commented on Rumour: Splinter Cell: Blacklist Sneaking Onto...:

For the last couple of weeks I've been playing through all 4 of the Gamecube Splinter Cell's, and I have loved every second of each of them. I'd like to play a new one, for sure, but I'm slightly concerned by what has been said above. Has the series become a little stale? I'm not even sure how many games I've missed out on since Double Agent.

@Xilef - Thanks for the recommendation, the article was a fascinating read. Sounds like a passionate and talented team of developers have been basically crushed by this megalomaniac, Dyack. I really felt for them all reading through the interviews.

MattL commented on Insider Reports Suggest That Focus On Eternal ...:

If only their plan had worked, as farcical as it seems. Eternal Darkness is, as previously mentioned, a classic. It doesn't sound like the most disciplined of businesses, but I respect the fact that they tried following their hearts. Unless I am being naive and they were thinking of the money. Perhaps I'm too much of a romantic ;)

How nice to read such a level-headed article and comments section after spending the last hour trawling through the saga on Eurogamer. It reminds me of why I visit this highly-esteemed site on a daily basis, and why I will continue to respect, trust and have a great deal of faith in your reviews and news articles :)

I guess there will always be examples of self-interest out there, but hopefully they will never detract from those with integrity and passion.

Never saw these originally, can't understand why. Rik Mayall is a comedy legend. His performance as Lord Flashheart is timeless :) Bottom, too, is one of my favourite comedies of all time. A brilliant and timelessly funny actor who we, sadly, don't see enough of these days. Woof!! ;)

MattL commented on Future Publishing Shutters Nintendo Gamer Maga...:

I was devastated to read this on their website yesterday. Been following the team's journey from N64 Magazine to present, so it is a real shame. The unbiased reviews and quality journalism will be sorely missed, but at least they shall still exist in digital form, so I guess we have to be grateful for that. With that and Nintendo Life, all my nerdy gaming desires shall still be fulfilled :) And I hasten to add that so shall my need for quality journalism ;)

MattL commented on Feature: In Defence of Super Mario Sunshine:

I have nothing but fond memories of this game and, thankfully, I'm in the process of reacquiring it :) A fantastic adventure and one I much preferred to Mario 64. Warioswoods articulated his feelings perfectly, and I share in them completely. I cannot wait to revisit Isle Delfino and its quirky, lovable inhabitants and vibrant locations.

MattL commented on Commodore 64 Celebrates 30th Birthday:

Happy Birthday C64 :) Great experiences then, fabulous memories now. And I admit to still playing Paradroid once a week at the very least. Mayhem in Monsterland, Impossible Mission and Boulderdash all sit comfortably in my Wii VC collection, and I would happily recommend all of those titles to anyone. If only they would release Creatures and Creatures II on Wii VC :)

MattL commented on Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This...:

There are a few occupying my time at the moment. The incredible Skyward Sword, Animal Crossing (Wii), Diddy Kong Racing (N64) and Excitebike (N64). I'm also itching to get back into Shadow Man (N64) but I've promised myself to find time to finish off Xenoblade after Skyward Sword. Too many games, not enough time :(

MattL commented on Tomb Raider Not Coming to Wii U:

Shame, I enjoyed Anniversary and Underworld (though the former far outclassed the latter). But, much like everyone else, it's not going to put a crimp in my day. There are far better game franchises out there.

MattL commented on E3 2012: Miyamoto Talks Zelda Wii U Experiments:

Let the experimental fruits of Miyamoto's genius ripen into another Zelda masterpiece. I have every confidence he (and his team) will make it happen. I don't have any issues with making games accessible to all, so long as the core-mechanics of the experience remain intact and challenging.

MattL commented on E3 2012: Every Wii U Game Announced So Far:

There are a dozen titles that have really piqued my interest. Pikmin 3, Lego City: Undercover, Scribblenauts, ZombieU, New Super Mario Bros U, Batman Arkham City (never played it), Rayman Legends, NintendoLand, Aliens and a few others. I'm done with typing for now ;) I think it's a strong line-up and has reinvigorated my excitement in the Wii U.

MattL commented on E3 2012: Iwata and Friends Enjoy a Job Well Done:

@Onett:

Couldn't agree more.

I, personally, enjoyed the conference. Though, reading the deluge of negative comments since, feel like I shouldn't have ;) However, I do agree the NintendoLand presentation lasted a little too long and my interest waned towards the end. I thought there was a lot on show, something to appeal to most gamers and a wealth of games to get excited about. For one, I don't feel short changed, but instead look forward to the oncoming months and - with any luck -more intriguing announcements.

It's understandable that you can't please all of the people all of the time, but the great thing is the evident passion people have for NIntendo :)

MattL commented on Now GAME Pulls The Last Story Completely:

Exorbitant prices and lacklustre staff with very little regard for customer service, just two of the reasons I will not be mourning GAME should they cease trading. I feel sorry for those people who have pre-orders with this company. It truly sucks.

MattL commented on Review: Back to the Future: The Game (Wii):

Thanks for the review, definitely one to add to the collection. I'm not too cautious of the loading times and glitches after spending a great deal of time playing Sam and Max 1 & 2. The stuttering and choppiness was forgiven thanks to both games content being so enjoyable, with the latter a testament to warped imagination and sublime storytelling. A tonic for a freak like me :) Hopefully this game continues that tradition.

Prefer something a little more cerebral these days, personally, but I'm glad to see another VC release so soon. And by all appearances, the game has aged very well. Hopefully this will motivate the naysayers into saying something other than nay for a while.

Snowboard Kids is still a firm favourite on N64, as with Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. The N64 still provides the best multiplayer hilarity around (in my humble opinion).

Great to see you guys havings such a blast. Enjoy it :)

MattL commented on Deep Silver Signs Back to the Future for Europe:

Was hoping this would happen. Love both Sam and Max games and am also a fan of Secret Files: Tunguska & the sequel Puritas Cordis on Wii, so if this lives up to the same standard as those I'll definitely be purchasing a copy. So, great news for me :) Cheers!
