These are great fantastic marvellous deals especially since not only as said above that even with 32Gb you need an external HD but also because the deluxe digital promotion, linked to the black 32GB model, ends end of December of this year anyway.

@Prime well actually I should have said he is 6. We have these games but it's too advanced for him. Also he likes Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 but it's not as easy and brainless as Skylanders for example. I was looking forward to Sonic Boom for him but it looks like even for him it might be a bad fit

maneauleau commented on Talking Point: The amiibo Range Grows, Yet Key...:

For now I think it's better to buy amiibo only if you are interested in having the physical figurines and not to focus too much on whatever you might get from these figurines on the games it's compatible with. In this way you are not disappointed and can only be pleasantly surprised.

I think this attitude is the best at least until we know more about Nintendo's plan or strategy which is totally unclear probably because they are still figuring it out.

The "funny thing" is that I see people complaining that Nintendo didn't go down the route of Skylanders/Disney because they made amiibo an optional thing. It's true that it would be better for Nintendo go down that route if they wanted to make more money but that's not why these people are upset. They are upset because they feel amiibo is "useless".

But Nintendo is being very clever, careful and respectful of players by not locking cool or mandatory content behind plastic figurines. They respect the players but at the same time they offer a range figurines for the fans who like to collect them and they reward them with little bonuses in various games.

I feel it's definitely a noble and different approach. And hopefully they still manage to make money this way. But once again that doesn't mean it will always be like that. I think if amiibo becomes really popular with 3DS and all, we might see an amiibo specific game. Who knows maybe it will be even a free download.

maneauleau commented on Nintendo Download: 6th November (Europe):

While I think that's it's very good that you can buy a digital version of Disney Infinity especially since young children tend to scratch CDs. I still find the price a bit expensive without the discount knowing that you still need to buy the physical version too.

I rather have them focus on adding voice chat (at least when I race with my friends) instead of wasting ressources on website.

Even though I know this is probably useful groundwork for other websites/apps linked with NNID for other games to come.

Kids who loves tablet don't care about "Why don't we have eBay, Gmail, Amazon, Spotify and countless other popular applications on the Wii U". Kids only likes games. Parents buy tablets for their kids because everybody can use it. And tablets can go in the car, in the plane, at grandma's house while the gamepad sadly can not (or not as easily). Thus the tablet replaces the home console and the handheld. This is a battle for the next Nintendo iteration the one with the unified OS which will facilitate home play and play on the go on the same device family. This iteration (Wii U and 3DS) need to to just deliver good games until the next iteration.

I hate the fragmentation between Wii classic controller and Wii U pro controller meaning that, especially 3rd party titles, are not supporting classic while they are all supporting pro controller. It would have been better then if they or Nintendo had released some Gamecube pro controller then.

maneauleau commented on Review: LEGO The Hobbit (Wii U):

I am glad you are being harsh with buggy ports. I have Lego Marvel on Wii U and while it's a good game for my son, the bugs and crashes are so frustrating that this game could have also been marked down especially since they don't patch it when they could...

While I agree with the propositions (improving communications, marketing and eShop) and surely agree that founding indies would help a bit too, that is still not going to be sufficient to make some profit. What Nintendo need is to go after the categories between indies and AAA. Invest in some western studios, in some mid size japanese studios, this will be an investment not only for the Wii U but for the future too. Capitalize on your current users by improving 3DS and Wii U interactions with cross play and cross saving. In the meantime work hard on your next machine and reward faithful Wii U owners with free transfer (or cheap) of their library on next machine.

@Nomad you are right that we should wait since Mario Kart and Smash Bros are around the corner and potentially they attract new players. But what if it's not enough? Isn't it better to try and think now about alternative solutions?

I think Nintendo should push harder is effort to attract loyal 3DS owners to the Wii U and vice versa before deeper phone interactions.

I see a lot of people saying it would be wrong for Nintendo to put some of their games on the smartphones and while I respect that and understand that, I don't see anyone proposing an alternative way to regain profitability.

And that's the problem Nintendo is facing.

So ok no games on smartphones and for sure no games on concurrent platforms but then how do you make the extra money? I am sorry I don't have a proposition either then.
