Re: Is anyone else going toward all digital download for retail games?

M_Jenius

I only buy digital releases when there is no other option (such as games like Trine 2 or The Cave). IMO. buying a game digitally is nothing more than a long-term rental. It may not be soon, but Nintendo Network, XBL, PSN, etc. will eventually be shut down when they cease to be profitable. When that happens then any games you bought digitally will only be available for as long as your hardware keeps running. However, if you bought physical copies and your console breaks then all you have to do is pick up another console on the used market and you'll still be able to play your games.

Side note... has any developer who made an Aliens games ever bothered to watch the movie ? Did they happen to notice there was only one Alien on that ship and it wreaked havoc !! Crew was simply terrified at the thought of facing one much less hordes of them.

Sounds like you're thinking of the original Alien (note singular) and not its sequel Aliens which is the movie this game is based on.

Re: Rayman Legends delayed

M_Jenius

Wow. That kind of sucks. While I am not a Rayman fan and had no intention of picking this up personally, it still hurts to see the Wii U lose a high profile exclusive. Just to rub salt in the wounds it's delayed too. That's rough, Ubisoft.

I didn't even know there was such a restriction. I guess I don't post enough to have noticed. To play Devil's advocate, I can see some usefulness to such a limit. I'm sure it can be mildly annoying for a legitimate user, but on the other hand, I'm sure this cuts down on the amount of spam messages in the system. Let's be honest ,there's already a to of useless spam posts in most of the communities, if this restriction was not in place I'm sure it'd be even worse.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles

M_Jenius

I bought this game a couple of months ago, but just got around to playing it the other day and all I can say is "OMG, why did I wait so long to play this game?" Granted, I'm only about 10 hours in right now, but I have been absolutely engrossed every minute so far. The story, while nothing revolutionary thus far, is just done so well that it really grips you. And the gameplay is absolutely addicting. I generally don't like games that take 40+ hours to beat, so I don't know if I'll stick this one out to the end, but if all 80+ hours are as good as the first 10 then I might be able to do it. It's a great game. Anybody who is still sitting on the fence and unsure about this game would be doing themselves a huge favor by just giving in and playing this game.

I think it would be nice if they increased the character limit a bit. 100 characters is less that Twitter gives you and that's already very limited. They don't need to make it unlimited or anything that crazy; after all, we don't want people spamming the communities with walls o' text. That said, increasing it to, say, 300 or so would be pretty awesome IMO.

Re: Gamepad looses full charge after a few weeks.

M_Jenius

Is it possible that you put it in the charging dock and didn't make sure it was seated properly? This happened to me once and it was because I had put the GamePad in the cradle at a bit of an angle. You didn't say whether or not you are using the charging dock or not, so this may or may not apply to your situation.

Re: Regarding Gamepad-only play.

M_Jenius

The off-TV functionality didn't even factor into my decision of whether to buy a Wii U. I remember reading about how cool it is that the Wii U will let you instantly shift the gameplay from the big TV to the GamePad (and vice versa) and I remember thinking to myself "Meh. Who cares? Why would I even want to do that?" Now that I actually have my Wii U, though, I find I am using off-TV feature ALL THE TIME. I have a wife and a 3-year-old daughter which means the TV in the living room (where all my consoles are connected) is usually in use until pretty late in the evening. I used to only get 1-2 hours a day to play any games, but with the Wii U, I have been able to play tons of New Super Mario Bros U on the couch with my daughter while she watches Dora the Explorer or something. It's the best feature I never knew I wanted.

I'm with you. I don't buy games digitally unless there is no physical release. That's why I'm really hoping this will be available at retail.

Re: X (aka Monolith Soft now owns your soul, DEAL WITH IT)

M_Jenius

I have Xenoblade Chronicles sitting on the shelf still in the shrinkwrap. I think the main thing keeping me from playing it is that I know it will take 80+ hours to complete and that's a VERY LONG time to spend on one game, especially when my backlog keeps growing by the day. First world problems, right? I'll get around to it one day though for sure.

Re: Wind Waker HD

I actually just played through The Wind Waker recently for the very first time and really enjoyed it. It's probably my second favorite LoZ game that I have played. I actually played it on my Wii (never owned a Game Cube) and I remember thinking to myself just how good it looked. The cell-shaded look and art style really holds up well even after all these years. That said, this HD remake looks EVEN BETTER and I will definitely be buying this. I'm hoping for a retail release, but something tells me this will be a download-only game.

Re: Yarn Yoshi

M_Jenius

I never played Kirby's Epic Yarn. It looked very cool and all, but I just never got around to picking it up. I kind of think it will be the same with this game. It looks fun and cute and I'm sure a bunch of others will love it, but I probably won't pick it up myself. Who knows though. Maybe I will change my mind when we get more information about the game.

Re: Regarding Gamepad-only play.

M_Jenius

I don't think it should be an all-or-none situation. It's great to have games like Zombi U and Nintendo Land which use the GamePad to enhance or compliment the on-screen action, but it's also nice to have games like New Super Mario Bros. U which can be played entirely on the GamePad. What I would truly love to see, however, is for developers to put forth a little more effort and creativity and create games which support BOTH styles of play. Let's be honest, many (not all) of the things being done on the GamePad screen such as inventory management, displaying maps, status info, etc CAN be done on the main screen. So, the game should show all of that extra stuff on the GamePad when you are playing on the TV, but it should allow you to switch to the GamePad and then all of those menus, maps, etc. should then be accessed in a more traditional method such as being displayed on the HUD or using menus.
