I felt that my day one purchase of the 3DS was worth it even before the price drop and ambassador program. The free games are basically just an awesome surprise for someone who was already very happy with his 3DS.

MARl0 commented on Take a Closer Look at the Wii U Console:

It definitely needs an optical audio output. My receiver doesn't have HDMI inputs, so my only way of getting digital audio from my game systems is by using optical cables. I'll end up having to buy a new receiver if they don't fix this, which is an expense, that I'd rather not have right now.

The music was fine in the PS1 version, but many of the sound effects suffered from audio glitches (the ultima spell comes to mind). It's not that the PS1 couldn't handle the audio, it was that Squaresoft did a horrible job porting the game.

MARl0 commented on Review: Final Fantasy III (Virtual Console / S...:

This game is easily not only the best game in the Final Fantasy series, it's arguably the greatest RPG of all time. It's an incredible game that I return to every couple years to relive it's magic. The only RPG that has ever come close to topping FF6 in my opinion, is Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast.

MARl0 commented on Talking Point: Why Nintendo and Rare Should Re...:

I honestly don't care if Rare ever comes back. Even back in the N64 era, many of their games were just generic knock-offs of Nintendo's own mega-hits. In a way, Rare was the "Gameloft" of the N64 era. Almost never any originality in anything they produced. The only real exception was Blast Corps. Anything else that they actually tried to innovate on turned out terrible (Jet Force Gemini).

MARl0 commented on Talking Point: Is the DS Dead at Retail?:

The same thing is happening in the US as well. Ghost Trick is only carried at Gamestop around here. All other retailers, including Best Buy, refuse to carry the game in store, and only sell it online. Although in Best Buy's case, they won't even stock Ghost Trick at their online store either. To Best Buy, Ghost Trick doesn't even exist, despite receiving rave reviews and a lot of coverage among the gaming press.

MARl0 commented on This Christmas is Critical for Wii, Admits Iwata:

Simply put, they're going to need to release their next console during the 2011 holiday season. Sadly, their plan of making the Wii cheap and affordable only backfired in the long run, as it's showing its age way too soon compared to the ps3 and 360. Most notably, the Wii absolutely needed to support high definition resolutions. Going SD with the Wii was a horrible mistake that they should never have even considered.

MARl0 commented on Exclusive Sneak Peek at Shantae Fan Club Mailer:

It's stuff like this that irritates me that Nintendo doesn't have a persistent online account for downloaded games. I have both a DSi and a DSi XL. But I have Mighty Flip Champs on my DSi, which I rarely use anymore. I was planning on downloading Shantae to my XL, but now I'm going to miss out on extra content because I can't transfer my copy of Mighty Flip Champs onto my XL.

MARl0 commented on Review: Star Fox: Assault (GameCube):

Assault is definitely not a great game, but it's WAY better than StarFox Command. That game is the true cream of the crap in the Star Fox series. Assault is like masterpiece compared to Command.

MARl0 commented on Features: We Want Your NES Stories!:

I got the NES for Christmas during the year of its launch. It came with a copy of Super Mario Bros., and I got a separate copy of Top Gun. I didn't like Top Gun though, so we returned it to the store and exchanged it for a copy of Duck Hunt and the NES Zapper (the good old days when return policies didn't care if you opened and played a game). Those were the good old days.

MARl0 commented on Review: Star Fox Command (DS):

I found this game to be the worst game in the Star Fox series by FAR. It's absolutely horrendous. And is the only Nintendo published game that I got rid of since Donkey Kong 64.

It's ridiculously repetitive game design, made worse by bland and boring game design. It's like two horrible problems mashed together to create the monstrosity that is Star Fox Command. Even Star Fox Assault is better than this game.

MARl0 commented on Nintendo's 3D Motion Game Tracks its Way Onto ...:

This game is honestly terrible. I have it on my import DSi, and I wanted to like it as much as everyone else here, but the camera is extremely laggy, jumps around WAY too much, and has an extremely narrow field of vision. It doesn't give even slightest feeling of head tracking. It just feels like you're controlling the camera by tilting your DS, and it does a terrible job of it. It's more frustrating to play than anything.
