Lazing around like a fat cat.

Female, 22, India

I am super lazy. I love to cook. I love to eat whatever I cook. I am from India (where support for Nintendo consoles is non-existent). I own a 3DS and its currently eating my wallet. Oh, look, it just spat out the zipper.

LordessMeep commented on In Q1 2013 More Money Was Spent On iOS Games T...:

Personally, the handheld market will always have its audience for there will always be people looking for an on-the-go console experience. I have no problems with developers migrating to iOS in order to pursue another source of income. I honestly can't imagine the big name developers throwing away the income from $40-60 titles in favour of producing shallow $1 titles exclusively. If they're in it for providing the players with a memorable gaming experience, they certainly won't do so.

I honestly can't wait for the Miiverse just so we can post comments on the game communities and maybe get an Earthbound VC-esque response (I'd really like Majora's Mask for the 3DS, actually) from Nintendo. Same thing with Japanese titles that don't make it to the west. I can certainly see myself using it quite a bit.

@haniwa - Ah, thanks for that. :) The $20 eShop cash was a nice gesture on their part. Even though there is no Nintendo support here, the good thing is that people don't know what a 3DS is here, so pick pocketing is out of the question. It also helps that I am super paranoid when carrying my 3DS around the city, so I tend to hold on to my bag like a lifeline of sorts. :P

@blacKnight - Hmm... never thought of it like that. But, personally, I feel that the upsides outweigh the downsides in this case, so Nintendo really should get with the times.

It breaks my heart to hear this, especially since I am an international customer and downloads are the only way I can get some games (outside of importing them for exorbitant prices, of course). I have over $150 worth of content on my 3DS and I'd hate for it to break/get lost. What is even more disappointing is that the solution has already been in place for a significant amount of time and that Nintendo is getting to it painfully slowly. We need NNIDs for the 3DS already.

@haniwa - Your story sounds encouraging. Mind if I ask how you approached them? I'm from Asia myself (India, they have zero Nintendo support here) and have an NA unit with an CN account too, which is why I ask. :D

Though I'm happy we're getting it, I still can't help but be disappointed that it took the game this long to come on VC. I'd really like to know the real reason why it was delayed, especially when there has been enough demand for the game. Regardless, will be buying to show support (and delve into it's awesomeness :D).

I have played the first (Mother), loved the sense of humor and the catchy music. Really, really glad that they FINALLY decided to release this game on VC. I hope this gets a lot of support so as to encourage them to listen to fans on the Miiverse more often.

Normally I'd be happy that we're getting it so soon after announcement but with the recent influx of games I want, looks like I'll be picking it up much, much later down the line. Oh well, gotta finish the first one then. :D

@gsnap - THIS. My first playthrough was Normal/Classic and I abused the hell out of the support system. On my second playthrough of Hard/Classic (attempting to do it w/o grinding), I tried to not use the supports as much so that every character could get an even growth and the first party won't soak up most of the experience. Unfortunately, Chapter-5 had me stuck with units dying within the first few turns so I had to rely on supports. D: It's an extremely fun game but, like you said, the challenge peters out towards the end, especially if one grinds a lot.

My first time playing a FE game and I am really thankful for the Casual mode, though I've never played it. A more accessible game means more players means more FE, and that doesn't feel like a bad thing. :D

Hmm... will pick it up somewhere down the line. Have to restrict myself to AC:NL, Pokemon X/Y and LttP 3DS this year. TAT

@Tech101 - Actually, in Japan, people game on their commute a lot. This was the reason why NSMB2 stages were so short, so that they could be completed quickly. I play on my commute myself, so playing in short bursts is better for platformers and it makes the game more portable. Shorter levels mean shorter times to finish them unlike an enormous level that'd take you a longer time. And if you have to pause in an awkward place to get off at your stop, tough. :P

In any case, the classic mode should appease you. :D

The 'New Super Luigi (not bros) U' title is a nice touch. I was expecting a reskin with this DLC but different control style sounds good. 100 second limit seems pretty challenging, especially with the way Luigi controls. The only limiter would be the pricing.. under $15 maybe?

Not the Zelda I was hoping for. T^T I do wish they bring either MM3DS or a brand new console style 3D Zelda game. Not hating on this game, but I am a fan of the open-world Zeldas.
Actually, I really liked the 3D effect in the trailer when Link bounces from one dungeon floor to the other. Drawing!Link brings a new dynamic to the board and I fail to understand how that is a bad thing. Certainly not a day one buy since I'll have to wait a few months for the physical copy to arrive over here. :/

tl:dr - I am hyped.

Majora's Mask is a pretty good game and it deserves a 3D treatment, especially since OOT has a 3D port. It'd only be fair to let the new generation of gamers enjoy it with updated graphics. :P

It was a pretty good approach to the game actually. We ended up with something that can hold its own within the Mario-verse. I hope that we can see more Mario from Next-Level Games, they did a stellar job with LM:DM. I'd like to see their take on a handheld 3D Mario game, similar Galaxy/Sunshine (not SM3DL-esque, though. Loved it, but it wasn't a true console Mario game).

@Windy - I don't have a Wii U right now either, but it's more about me lacking the cash and a trustworthy place to import the console from. I see several games I'd like to play, but I'd rather wait around for the first party heavy hitters to arrive.
Can't wait for DQX either, but I'll probably break down and buy a console once a 3D Mario or Zelda is released, which ever comes first. :D

LordessMeep commented on Talking Point: The Next-Gen Console War is Wii...:

@Sanquine - Speaking of Sony, I have a PSP from the last generation which has lasted me over five years now. While Nintendo stumbles and falls a lot, overall I disagree less with Ninty than with Sony. I would've picked up a Vita this handheld generation but then they had to remove the UMD drive (consequently, the backward compatibility) and then there was the whole thing with the Vita memory cards. :/ I won't be getting the PS4 given the to be exorbitant price and I wasn't really impressed with the system any way. Also, lack of backward compatibility. And I play my non-Ninty titles on PC now.

To clarify the incoherent rant - Sony is not an evil company in my eyes, it's just that they've made far more missteps with me than Nintendo has. Backward compatibility means a lot to me and I'd just like to use normal SD cards please. :)

LordessMeep commented on Talking Point: The Next-Gen Console War is Wii...:

I am really, really curious about the price points of the PS4 and NextBox. It could very well determine how well the Wii U would do when compared to those behemoths. I still hope for Nintendo to seize the market or, at least, stay relevant.. because the Wii U offers an experience that the other two don't.

@rjejr makes a good point about the 0.30c games. About time they start offering their VC goodies at iOS/Android competitive prices! And release more of them too!

@ThomasBW84 - I'll be surprised if the total console count of the current gen (Wii U/PS4/NextBox) crosses 150 million. O_o I don't have much disposable cash right now, which is why I've already exhausted my game budget for this year.. and I believe only regular gamers would have saved up enough cash for the next gen.

LordessMeep commented on Interview: Michael Pachter On Wii U, 3DS And T...:

@Windy - SAME. I'm more of a handheld gamer and, call me overdramatic, but if Nintendo stopped making their consoles, I'd probably stop console gaming all together. The only other platform that I'd game on would be the PC for the XBLA indie titles and Steam discounts.

I'm throughly puzzled why Patcher here doesn't "get" the gamepad. Why is a second screen bad again? He puts far too much emphasis on third party support too. I mean, third party support is necessary but not integral to the success of the Wii U.

On the other hand, his observations on the Android/iOS gaming market are pretty spot on. Same thing with him not writing off the Wii U just yet.

Given that this is the first time NA and EU regions will be getting a mainline Pokemon game simultaneously AND that they're moving on to the next generation, it is a pretty important time for the franchise. They're moving on to 3D models, may be even open world exploration, and it's crucial for them to make the game so that it appeals to the older fans and new ones alike.

I for one absolutely love the charm of a Nintendo interface, regardless of it being clunky. A good example I can provide is the eShop on the 3DS - the opening music makes me instantly cheery. Sure, you have to scroll through an insane number of arbitrary groups; but I love it all the same.

Having the Miiverse on mobile platforms would be great for Wii U owners. I do hope both the Miiverse and the NNIDs make their way to the 3DS soon. :)

LordessMeep commented on Epic Games Rules Out Unreal Engine 4 For Wii U:

Ouch. And we have another reason for our dear third parties to spew when asked why their game would be skipping the Wii U. Graphics mean very little to me, so the UE4 tech demo was not all impressive. It's pretty, yes, but in the long run, games will ultimately stand out because of their spectacular gameplay. The news disappoints me nonetheless, because now there'd be more negative press about the Wii U.

It seems pretty sad to see western developers treat Nintendo as if they're irrelevant, ignoring the fact that they've been around a lot longer than most. I really hope the newer releases will turn things around for the Wii U in the west, I wouldn't want Nintendo off the western market. :/

LordessMeep commented on New Research Claims Wii U Success Hinges On A ...:

PS4/NextBox boast a lot of power, so $350 is a no go. I'd say they'd be anywhere between $400-$450. They make a really good point about the used game market and DRM practices. Lack of a UMD drive on the PSVita was a major reason (aside from the price) why I didn't upgrade from a PSP. PS4's whole "On Cloud BC" is all fine and dandy on paper, but in practice it'd be pretty iffy, especially if it requires a constant internet connection. It's one thing to play PS1/PS2 games using that, but to play a PS3 game, when it'd be easier to just put in a disk, would be pretty ridiculous.

A price drop for the Wii U would be valid AFTER some first party titles have been released and they still haven't shifted enough systems.

LordessMeep commented on Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo:

I literally laughed out loud at "Zelda hasn't been exciting since Ocarina".

Quite honestly, I don't understand what sort of games this guy wants from the third parties - those FPS sequels that have been done before? I agree with his stance on securing third-party support, but, personally, I feel there are very few AAA third party titles that are genuinely innovative. Most feel like a rehash, so I don't see this as a huge loss. Then again, I'm not the biggest FPS fan and graphics mean very little to me, so I can't tell the difference. What they need to do is get third parties that are actually excited to develop for the Wii U, Criterion being an example.

Another good point he makes is about advertisement. More than anything, the Wii U would benefit from awareness. They need to put out interesting ads to draw in folk and tell them that the Wii U is a completely different beast from the Wii.

The rest of his rant, I disagree with. What was wrong with Samus being explored as a character? Galaxy games may have sold less that NSMB Wii but that doesn't automatically make them bad. @Tryken put it pretty well - "NSMB is the problem, not the solution." Even worse is that despite being a (self-acclaimed) software developer, he dislikes the idea of some Nintendo developers making games they want to make. That pretty much screams "entitled fanboy" to me.

I support Nintendo because of their stellar first party titles and I can (almost always) expect them to deliver some memorable gameplay experiences. Patience is the key with them. The Wii U is fairly new and writing it off this early is silly. Nintendo hasn't even pulled out their big guns yet. If the situation is the same by this holiday season, THEN we have a problem.

LordessMeep commented on No Battlefield 4 For Wii U Because DICE Wants ...:

Well @Zellybeanie, I have to admit, I laughed. :D

First Person Shooters in general make me cringe. I dislike the genre mostly because a majority of the offerings are uninteresting and feel like a rehash of what has been done before. Battlefield 4 is no exception to the rule, however, I am slightly torn at all these major third parties skipping the Wii U. One the one hand, a majority of these titles happen to be sequels to another FPS, something that the Wii U can most definitely do without while on the other, these same FPSs could have sold the system. :/

To be honest, I'll be surprised if the PS4/NextBox manage to sell more than the Wii U, given a similar time-frame. Both consoles boast high graphical and processing power, so I can easily see them being retailed at $400+ sans games. I like to think there won't be a lot of people willing to shell out that kind of cash.
