Light commented on Talking Point: The Time Is Right For A Nintend...:

The real solution for nintendo is to find out what the young and current generation of gamers want from a mobile gaming device. I will tell you though, most likely it is not a nintendo gaming phone. It would most likely be a niche and not do well at all. A better idea would be to either release the games for IOS or android and manufacturers could come up with whatever kind of control scheme that they want, whether it be touch screen or a physical attachment, OR, nintendo could simply continue to upgrade it's gameboy/DS device to take advantage of newer technologies. Doing both however is definitely not be advised as the former would hurt the latter.

I agree with you there, the only thing better than wiimote and nunchuck is the mouse and keyboard :) (i am an old pc gamer).

@PvtOttobot
This is an interesting solution as long as you don't HAVE to look at the gamepad screen to use it. I hate when I have to look at the gamepad screen for extended periods. The resolution is lower and it hurts my eyes after a while.

The PDP ones never did look good to me, so i purchased one of the Hori controllers and I must say that while I am impressed with the feel of it, the analog sticks do not have enough resistance for me, but my younger sister loves using it. I honestly think that the pro controller is the best option for the wii u.

@Yorumi
I agree 100%. Although I did not say it directly, Nintendo is indeed enforcing the kids only image by only having kids in their commercials. The ones with adults do promote someone what of a family image, but the "kiddy" image is more pronounced. As for the third party games, while they do exist, as we can see, they are now next to being non-existent for current and future releases.

@kereke12
I do not think advertising will help that much. I believe that most people simply do not care about nintendo any more and see them as "irrelevant" and "only for kids." In some ways they are right. Without third party support, they are simply a niche which most people simply do not care about. Only us older gamers can really appreciate the nintendo franchises and how they have evolved, but for the younger folks, they couldn't care less as the console is severely underpowered and has limited gaming options as a supposed gaming machine. As time progresses, I am caring less right now.

As a nintendo/pc gaming fan since the early 90s, While I am enjoying my Wii U, I would also say that I would not get another nintendo console. While I enjoy nintendo's exclusives more than any other console, I do miss at least having the option of playing some of the major third party titles.

Mario kart and smash have been my main games from their inception. However, i find myself feeling a bit underwhelmed with mario kart, so now it is only Smash (which is a masterpiece by the way) which keeps my attention with the wii u. Although I am looking forward to splatoon(most likely another masterpiece), I can say that Nintendo is really on a downhill trend. They should stop making home consoles and put their games on other systems. Either way I will enjoy my Wii U to the end. Thanks nintendo for many years of solid gaming.

Looks like too much of a mario 3d world clone to me to justify buying it, although i did enjoy the toad levels in 3d world. Smash and Mario kart will hold me until Splatoon comes out next year. Splatoon is my most anticipated game next to smash for the wii u.

I have my copy, and i must say, it's the best smash game i've played to date. I will be playing this for months, hopefully years to come. Nintendo is far from perfect and there's still many necessary features that are missing for the wii u, but credit MUST be given to nintendo for this smash game. Thanks nintendo!

I am perfectly comfortable with my pro controller, I'll wait to get one, maybe when it's compatible with more games, even then, probably not. The pro controllers are awesome! I did order a Hori controller which i will be receiving today, and That will work with wii u and wii mode.

@audiobrainiac

Download is definitely the way to go. It took only about 5 min (if that) to download and install the unlock content for the predownload. I checked the storage use afterwards and it takes up 12GB total. The game runs extremely fast and smooth, fast loading times, it's gorgeous, and it's great fun.

I live in the Bahamas, but the region for my Wii U is set to the USA. I had smash predownloaded since a few days ago, and it only took about 5 min to download and install the unlock content. I played it from 12AM to about 3AM and am at work now, but i will tell you guys, it is an awesome game!

Not interested, the whole exclusive thing will be a pain for those who want these particular amiibos. I hope nintendo is making some good money by going this route, because other than that, they are only pissing off their fans by making it inconvenient for them.

@Jmaster
"Really? That's your logic? Of course every console is going to improve on its predecessor, but that doesn't make it overall better! It has to actually be a big improvement over the previous one, otherwise they could launch a new console every week and clock the processor one hertz higher every time, and it'd still be 'the best Nintendo console ever' by your logic."

My logic is pretty sound, even what we consider to be simple upgrades does make it a better console than nintendo's last generation console. The upgrade to HD, a better eshop, and touchscreen controller, better wireless and an awesome pro controller are some of the few. However, I did not say that nintendo made the perfect console. In fact, it's faaaaaaaaaaar from perfect. It is lacking in major ways, the more stand out ones being the two that I mentioned. The biggest cry here is the lack of games, if it had better third party support, that would solve most of our issues. I notice that you and I both gave it a C rating, so we should be on the same page.

It is by far the best nintendo console to date, of course since it improves with each generation. However main downfalls:

-lack of AAA third party games
-no option of exporting save data in the event of hardware failure

Because of these things i would have to give it a C

Light commented on The Nintendo Wii U Is Better Value For Money T...:

Reading the comments here, I'm a bit shocked and I wonder why there's so much complaining. There's a great thing that we all have called "choice". I choose to buy a game system which has the games that i like to play, which in this case happens to be the Wii U, since i mainly only play smash and kart. If you like other games, get a different console or PC instead of the Wii U. If you have the Wii U, then enjoy the games that you like most on it, it makes no sense to complain about the games that it lacks. If you no longer believe that it is a good value, then sell it and get something else, or give it away and get something else. Why all the emotions?

Light commented on The Nintendo Wii U Is Better Value For Money T...:

As a gamer from the late 80's early 90's I will agree with reggie only to the extend that the Wii U does have some excellent exclusives. What's kills the Wii U is the lack of AAA titles. The only reason I have the wii u is because i prefer nintendo games over the rest, I do not play much games anymore due to other priorities, and it is still the best family/party console IMO. However, even if i was still a heavy gamer (i was a heavy PC gamer back in the day), i would probably own a Wii U and a PC, as the PC has most of the multiplats and you can still play much older games from way back in the day. If you want the best bang for your buck go with the PC + Wii U bundle. PS4 and Xbox Ones are basically weak PCs. Also keyboard and mouse combo rules for FPS games :)

Light commented on Hands On: Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter:

@OMC79

Agreed, although i still think that the adapter is a good option for those simply wanting to use their existing GC controllers with smash and save money at the same time, since 8 player smash will require 8 controllers. I have 3 GC controllers myself, however, i would much prefer a GC themed wii U pro controller, since i prefer wireless controllers.

"Some games require you to unplug the add-on controllers, a controller like the one on the petition would be as if it is hard-wired"

I don't see this in the petition, it reads:
"This petition is to show interest in Nintendo creating a Wii U Pro controller in the style of the Gamecube's controller."

If you simply create a wii u pro controller with a different layout but use the exact same buttons and control sticks, I do not see how this would break compatibility with existing games.

Light commented on Hands On: Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter:

@OMC79

Ok, i think I understand what you are saying, but you do realize that you can navigate with the wii u pro controller right? That's why i was saying that a GC themed wii u pro controller should be just fine, since the buttons and control sticks will just be placed a bit differently, but use the same logic board inside.

@OMC79
not sure what you are talking about with the pointing device... It shouldn't require a huge firmware update if it's simply a gamecube THEMED pro controller. I'm not talking about having to include the analog buttons or any of that, since those are not important to me.

Light commented on Hands On: Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter:

@Kirk
I hear what you are saying, but for us to expect a 13 year old controller to continue to be used natively with nintendo's console in this generation is a bit unrealistic. I believe that nintendo understimated just how popular the GC controller is, and their thinking must be that, since most people use the controller for smash, that they would market it just for that one game at this time. Who's to say that the features that you are asking for will not be implemented in the future? I believe that is is highly likely that it will be compatible with more games in the future as it is only a matter of patching.

So again, i hear what you're saying, and i also wished that it worked with more things, but i do not think that our expectations are realistic at this time. Hopefully these things will come in the future.

Light commented on Hands On: Wii U GameCube Controller Adapter:

@Kirk
Good points, but really and truly, as with a lot of other things, it's all about preference. After i play smash with the pro controller, i will make my decision between that and the gamecube controller, but something tells me that the pro controller will feel just fine since i am comfortable with it with other games.

I believe that this exclusivity business is a bad start for the amiibos. It will definitely be more of a hinderance than anything else. Regardless, i only have interest at this time in link and toon link, maybe zero-suit samus in the future.

I wouldn't consider myself a gamecube elitist like other people, in fact i will probably play with the pro controller as my main controller since it is wireless. However, the gamecube controllers are cheaper and most people already have some in their possession. Pro controller are expensive at $50 a pop.
