lex0plex commented on Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo:

The Wii U was the first Nintendo system I haven't bought at launch. I think the only thing that is holding Nintendo back, is that they're only willing to "innovate" the market and not follow trends (Microsoft ans Sony are doing the opposite). If they were to combine both, Nintendo would flourish once again. Lay down your pride Nintendo and use some of the good ideas other developers are doing. They're stealing your ideas after all.

lex0plex commented on Miyamoto Talks Down Idea of 3DS Redesign:

Actually, I can see a handheld in Nintendo's future that works like the WiiU Gamepad (but with whatever will follow the WiiU) except that you can bring it anywhere. Games are soon going to be an entirely software experience and the 3DS and WiiU already share so many games... they just need to bridge the gap, graphically speaking.

Not a big fan of the Rock Pikmin either... I hope they don't have an onion and are only used on occasion. I did like the Purple Pikmin though! They're the ones who should have an onion! Why don't they just bring those guys back instead?

@ rayword45

Yeah, if the certification process really takes so long, then why do so many terrible games make it on Wiiware? Doesn't make sense man...

I know apple devices don't have a great game selection compared to 3DS, but their online system seems to work very well. Nintendo has always been a great leader of the game industry. For them to continue to do well, they must learn to follow too.

"Super Mario 3D Land has been the recipient of critical acclaim"

Man, what am I missing? Am I the only one who thought it was just all right? OK that's it, I'm playing this again to try and figure out what was so damn special about it.

@Scrafty
I agree. Super Mario 3D is definitely not a masterpiece. I really felt like that game is a whole bunch of copypasta. Nothing really new and way too easy. Though, I thought it was a decent length and the 3D effects were cool. Did you play through the second 8 levels?

My favourite Mario game has to be Super Mario Sunshine. That game never gets enough credit. It was the perfect balance between platforming and exploration. Also fludd was way too much fun! I hope the next big Mario game for Wii U is a platforming, adventure RPG with level ups and unique abilities. That would be amazing!

I was a huge fan of the Prince of Persia games, but never got the chance to play Assassin's creed all the way through. I think I'll get this if it looks good! Thank you Ubisoft!

lex0plex commented on Wii U Controller Originally Had Proper Analogu...:

I don't understand how you are supposed to play games with this device and the Wii controller. Nintendo said they weren't going to go back to button based Zelda games right? So will there be more than one controller option to play Zelda WiiU?

I think a better alternative would be to make the old Wii controller obsolete and go back to traditional button gaming, or have an entirely new motion based controller with 2 analogue sticks and a touch screen on the Nunchuk part. Maybe it could even snap together to form the Wii U controller...

My crude sketch: http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/5480/97435940.png (there are so many problems with this I know...)

I hate that there are so many friggin' controllers! Please Nintendo, just make one really nice one that works for every game!

At 1:08, what the heck are they doing? :P are they trying to tackle each other or something?

BTW I personally am excited for the new game play in the car. It seems like a fresh idea so don't knock it before you try it!

I always hated it when I got a bunch of rip-off games like this for xmas when I was younger... I don't blame my parents, they don't know the difference, but companies that do this should not be allowed to release their games! Doesn't Nintendo have the power?

lex0plex commented on Japan Buys Half a Million Copies of Super Mari...:

There is more than Nintendo out there and many people (including me) only have enough spending money to buy 9/10 rated games regardless of the system. Usually on a Nintendo console, that means it was developed by Nintendo, which means it is probably a well known franchise.

I was just saying that Nintendo should continue to broaden the types of games they make. I wasn't referring to 3rd party developers. Don't get me wrong I do hope the games you mentioned turn out well! :P

lex0plex commented on Japan Buys Half a Million Copies of Super Mari...:

After finishing Super Mario 3D Land, I'm sad to say that I was a little disappointed. It was fun, a decent length and challenging (near the end), but I couldn't help but feel like the concept was extremely stale.

And even though the difficulty picked up around world S7/S8, I still beat game with 150+ lives stored up. What is the point of lives when the game saves after every level? Nintendo is living in the past and played it too safe with this game.

As fun as Mario and Zelda games are, nothing would leave more of an impression on Nintendo fans and the gaming community if the 3DS wasn't just a system that got a whole bunch of remakes, but a system that brought entirely new concepts and games to the table. I can't think of one 3DS game (at the moment) that isn't a remake or sequel...
