Kodeen commented on Video: How Does Watch Dogs Use The Wii U GamePad?:

@Damo, bit of an aside, but when uploading videos to YouTube do you get to set any preferences for commercial length? I know you get less money when they are skipped, so I will watch the whole things where reasonable, but I will not watch an entire 2 minute commercial for a 2 minute video.

SMB2 is a perfect example of developers being afraid to take risk. The actual SMB2 was a near clone of the first game, and the US SMB2 was named that way because they didn't want to chance the game against an unproven IP. It was basically the Star Fox Adventures of its day.

"Nintendo has successfully utilised the latter with its iQue range."

Successful how? Successful in that the original iQue was pirated to hell and back? Successful in that iQue console releases have been several years behind the rest of the world? Successful that no iQue system has had more than 10 games released for it?

Thomas's use of the word successful was a bit too generous in that sentence, you shouldn't be relying on it. A better phrasing would have been "and legal plug-and-play workarounds; Nintendo has utilised the latter with its iQue range to varying degrees of existance."

If a game is requiring money it is fit to be judged. If a developer does not believe his game is fit to be judged, he must not believe that his game should require money. So which category does the developer of The Letter fit into.

Comparisons to Early Access are not working in your favor, as that system is equally ludicrous.

"However, Moore seems to have missed the point here; while the 3DS certainly won't be a big system in 2017 or 2018, Nintendo's next handheld console will be available by then"

Knowing Nintendo, they likely haven't had any discussions with 3rd party devs about their next handheld, let alone sent out dev kits. How is EA supposed to plan 3 years in advance for a handheld they know nothing about?

"Our only real issue with this is one that stems from the handheld roots of its gameplay conceit: we found ourselves looking down at the GamePad the entire time we were playing, and even though the beautiful art tempted us upwards towards the television"

This is one of my main problems with the Gamepad. I play consoles and not handhelds for a reason, and games like this (and Little Inferno, etc...) make the TV, and thus the fact that this is a console, pointless. Just make a 3DS game.

More money? A moderately successful youtuber like TB makes (estimated) $200,000 a year. I wish I made that much. Very successful youtubers like Yogscast and Pewdiepie are millionares.

And are you the arbiter of what is and what is not a real job? If you're satiating a demand in the market, and you can live off of it, then it's a real job.

@Action51 "They may be banking on their subscription online services and licensing fees from annualized franchises like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed to make back their money over time."

The loss on the PS4 is so small that Sony have stated the console becomes profitable after 1 game.

Because it isn't the copyright, it's the patent. The chip is still patented, and whether you're implementing it in hardware or software you're still implemented the patented instruction set. They don't have the rights and apparently don't want to pay the licensing costs.
