KeeperBvK commented on Konami: We Had To Take Risks With Castlevania ...:

Being rated very well and especially being sold very well don't necessarily mean that something truly is good. As for the whole "selling well" thing: Lots of great games bomb at retail and vice versa.
As for the "being rated well" thing: Just imagine an artist struggling to survive on his art for his whole life, because people don't appreciate his work. Then, after his passing away, twenty years later people suddenly start to realize how great his work truly had been.

Oh well, this won't lead anywhere, anyway, so I'll leave it at that. Feel free to add something, but I'll remain quite from hereon. ^^

KeeperBvK commented on Konami: We Had To Take Risks With Castlevania ...:

@Damo If people hated LoS for its Western developer, then they'd also hate Dead Rising 2, Metroid Prime (just the game you happened to bring up), Contra 4, Luigi's Mansion 2 and so on.
The reason, people (nearly) universally love Metroid Prime and are so split when it comes to LoS is that Metroid Prime was extremely faithful to the originals (it simply is the most natural way to bring Metroid to 3D), while LoS went its own route and ALSO wasn't nearly as good a game (or rather two of them already).

KeeperBvK commented on Review: Gunman Clive (3DS eShop):

I can't help but feel rather disappointed by the game. Clive moves terribly slow (now that I've read that he's actually even the faster character, I'm not sure I wanna try the lady one), the bosses are either boringly easy or borderline frustrating (the train), weapon powerups are nearly impossible to differentiate before picking them up, and some later stages don't feel well-designed. There are lots of neat little throwbacks to other games, but when asteroids rain down from above without any indication as to where they will actually come down, all while you are required to hop over large gaps in low gravity, cleverness ends right there, and annoyance kicks in.
Don't get me wrong: It's still a neat (and beautiful) game, but nowhere near a masterpiece. I'd give it a 6 or maybe a 7 at most.

KeeperBvK commented on Nintendo Download: 9th May 2013 (Europe):

@C-Olimar That should make Nintendo release more NES stuff than usual. But instead, they are merely releasing less other stuff than usual. ;)
They are not pushing the NES, but entirely negelcting everything else, while providing the bare minimum of NES support.

Wow, the 3DS is having a stellar week! The WiiU though...not so much.

What is it with all of those NES VC releases recently? It seems like all the 3DS VC is getting are NES games, and the WiiU VC also consists nearly of NES only so far? Why aren't they at least releasing some more SNES games or even a single N64 or Mega Drive game yet? When the VC on Wi started, we already got heaps of Mega Drive titles during its first weeks, and now there isn't even a sign of anything coming.

"Players can upgrade their arsenal through fun in-app purchases"

Are they serious? Are those marketing people even trying anymore? "Fun in-app purchases"...that is honestly the worst term I have ever read in any press release.

Of course they don't replace stolen or lost games. Why would they?
If they did, anybody could "lose" (i.e. sell) a 3DS with a hefty amount of download games and still get them all back.
The interesting thing to know is whether Nintendo replaces download games when the system they were downloaded to is broken. A guarantee never covers items to get stolen or lost, but only broken, so why would it be any different here?

KeeperBvK commented on Pikmin 3 Arrives in North America on 4th August:

Wait, what? Are you kidding me? A game that was slated for the launch window is coming out in August, now?
There had been demos playable last year, and it doesn't seem like they would need to put much work into it, anyways. Are they just trying to spread out their releases more? Still going to buy it (and I hate me for that), but this is kind of ridiculous.

KeeperBvK commented on Big John Games Bids A Fond Farewell To DSiWare...:

Wow, this looks terrible. And not just in generic way, but in a terribly designed way. The camera appears way too far zoomed in, which means that enemies pop in too suddenly, and you can already see lots of leaps of faith in that trailer. It doesn't seem like there's any way to actually see what's beneath you, but yet you apparently have to drop or jump down often. That needs to be addressed, and it should be easy to improve, but I guess it won't happen...

"The Wii U game was released in Japan at the end of March, and is the next entry in the popular WarioWare series,"

It's not really part of the WarioWare series. For one thing, the names are different, and what's more, this isn't about micro games, but about minigames. It's an entirely different focus. Just because there's Wario in there, it doesn't mean it's the same series.
Otherwise, you could also argue that this is another Mario Party, since Wario is in both Game & Wario and Mario Party.

I wish they'd just make another true WarioWare. The demo I played of this was just horrible.

Super Star Wars
Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
Super Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi
Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures

All of these have been made by Factor 5, not LucasArts directly.

KeeperBvK commented on Review: Naruto: Powerful Shippuden (3DS):

@ErnisDy: I thought you've played the demo? I don't know anything about the game outside of the demo (I've played it as well) and even I can tell you that there are bosses, as you already fight one in the demo! ;)

Besides: The demo was a snore-fest, so I already anticipated the final game to be no better than a 6.

@ GamerZack: The "o" in "obento" is merely a prefix indicating politeness. The word itself is just "bento", but usually you'd say "obento"

Edit: Damn, beaten to it. ^^

KeeperBvK commented on Nintendo Responds To Guilty Verdict In 3D Pate...:

The ridiculous thing is how fanboys keep insulting people like Tomita. He is right, Nintendo is not. Deal with it. He has made an invention, which Nintendo used afterwards without paying for it. Now hoping for Nintendo to win the case (although they've already lost) or calling the guy a troll is nothing but demeaning and narrow-minded.
As for the "sueing over a shape"-thing. Why would that be ridiculous? If somebody copied the form of a Nintendo controller, I'm sure a lot of people here would hope for Nintendo to sue them...
And Nintendo had already sued companies for using a cross-shaped D-pad, for which Nintendo used to hold the rights. But I guess, when Nintendo does something along these lines, it's perfectly fine by some people's double-standards.

And this perfectly sums up all the problems of certain websites: When you only cover one company's platforms and rely on good relationships with the industry, you get reviews like this, overly praising a terrible, ill-fated game like Mirror of Fate. Stay away from this abomination at all costs.

There's actually not much in this vid, that is in the game as well. On the other hand, there is too much stuff in this vid that can't be found in the game. Not exactly a great video, and most certainly not "what real life Goldeneye" would look like.

KeeperBvK commented on Hardware Classics: Nintendo DS Lite:

What is all this talk about European DS boxes being better than US/Japanese ones? I live in Europe and I can't stand our boxes here, mostly importing my games from NA or Japan just to have thinner boxes that don't take up so much storage shelf for no good reason. North Americans: Consider yourselves lucky.

What? I had always hoped to eventually meet him some day. Maybe do some interviews. He was IMHO one of the last truly interesting game designers around. Not just interesting for his games but his character as well.

Then why couldn't AlphaDream make something else than yet another Mario & Luigi, if you're enjoying their style rather than the fact that it's an RPG featuring Mario? ;)
That's my point: Nintendo doesn't have to cram Mario into all of their games, as they have so much more on offer than just the tapestry of the Mario universe.

KeeperBvK commented on Talking Point: The Year of Luigi Could Bring a...:

After just 4 years it is "very much due"? Especially considering we still had a Mario RPG last year in the form of the last Paper Mario.
I'd hardly say that a new Mario & Luigi is "very much due" with the overabundance of Mario games in general and the constant stream of Mario RPGs.
Sure, I was excited to see them announce this, but I'm completely with mookysam on this one. Nintendo should diverse their catalogue a lot more again.
