I think the reason why the 3DS will have so many N64 remakes is because of this: the N64 was Nintendo's first "3D" console. Thus, Nintendo's REAL 3D console might have remakes of N64 games.

It makes sense when you think about it, both consoles are firsts for Nintendo: 3D graphics on the N64, Stereoscopic 3D on the 3DS.
