Really more of a port with new features added. Remakes tend to be far more extensive changes. Only game I've seen that has been actually remade into HD is Wind Waker. All the rest are just HD PORT collections.
@Kirbic It goes beyond those. Apparently this EA guy doesn't think the Atari 2600, Colecovision, Magnavox Odyssey, etc. ever existed if he doesn't think they're in any kind of gaming generation.
Textures on environments are looking nicer and nicer. Some places are still blurry, but that's fine as long as other parts of the game look fine. It's not like PS3 or 360 games have consistently high quality textures anyway.
@mr_moobs It's a port, what the heck did you expect? At least the textures look much better in the Wii U version than the 3DS version of the same game. MH4 is a completely new game with new assets and a hell of a lot more work put into it.
Tegra 5 would be too weak. Not to mention that unlike Sony, Nintendo wouldn't go for off-the-shelf parts. But, like Sony (Vita and PS4), they may at least heavily customize an off-the-shelf part since phones shouldn't be too complicated. I don't think Nintendo will be jumping into phones just yet though. Maybe another 10 years.
@Chriiis Hmmm, I'd be fine if it was something like. 3 choices for hair color, 3 for eye color, and 3 for skin color isn't horrible. But the website doesn't give me the impression that that's the case. It looks much more like they just give you 3 preset appearances per gender and that's it. No customization and mixing and matching at all. That's the impression I'm getting and I am really hoping that I'm wrong.
@Peach64 Yeah, I kind of realized that as well. It's just the thought of EA coupled with Nintendo sparked some kind of rage in me for whatever reason (not as bad as Bamco and Tales though). EA is looking to be very cautious with Wii U, but because of that caution they're losing favor in Nintendo fans' eyes. Makes sense though, just because a massive company like Crytek can put money and manpower into porting an engine doesn't mean a massive company like EA has to as well. What I'm afraid of though, is once Wii U sales do pick up and EA DOES port this engine over, I fear that they won't put quite as much effort as they should into optimizing it and thus making it run their games very poorly on Wii U.
EA and DICE are full of bullplop. They may have devkits and they may know a little more than I do about them, but I highly doubt they're saying the truth. CryEngine 3 was successfully ported and FULLY OPTIMIZED and running "beautifully" on Wii U. Heck, Crysis 3 was ported and ready to ship on Wii U. And people may flame me on this one, but I find CryEngine 3 to be more impressive than FrostBite 3; the only thing I see FB3 having over CE3 is perhaps draw distance, optimization on PC, and more birdies on screen. Other than that, Crysis 3 makes Battlefield 4 look like Call of Duty Modern Warfare.
Wow, I've always thought that DS Lite had 10-20 hours per charge. I never had one myself, but that's what I see people say online. All those people must've kept their DSes on modest settings huh?
Looking at the website...it seems like there ISN'T character customization. To me, it looks a lot more like now we'll have to choose gender and then choose from 3 preset appearances as well. No true customization like in MH3U, FE:A, HM:ANB, or PSO2.
Pretty disappointing, it seems it'll be a long time before we can journey through the world of Pokemon with the character we want. I'll be waiting for Generation 7.
Eh....Pokemon games no longer get me excited. I'll still get Pokemon Y though, but I don't think I'll be putting so many hours into it. The days of 1000 hours put into Ruby are long past.
I'd like to see Nintendo put all the money that they'll get from 3DS and Wii U during this entire generation to make one single successor to both systems that also succeeds tablets. Something like the Project Shield, but better and way more portable.
@Hong Why yes I have; both of them, twice. But right now I can only recall a couple adopted children in those games, and that would be Amy (unplayable) and Soren. Still not quite that many. Care to remind me of the others? But anyway, I do agree that Nintendo could've put in an option for those who wanted it. Although in the end they didn't, at least it's not like IS is completely opposed to the idea. We got Heather after all.
Anything that adds mass and weight to my portables I won't buy. I wish Nintendo had designed the 3DS and XL like the Wii U Gamepad so that even if they cheap out on battery, there would at least be room in the battery slot for third parties to make an upgrade.
Will get this one just because I want a 3DS sequel. I barely have any memory left for DSiWare games and I don't like having to delete the games I already have and lose my saves.
I don't like any of them so far. Maybe not as bad as Gen 4, but even Gen 5 had better looking Pokemon. I am liking the character customization though, but it seems it's going to be very minimal in this game. A pity...since it's supposed to be YOUR adventure in the Pokemon world. Not "guy or girl in hat whose named after the game versions"'s adventure, but yours.
Seems fake to me. Though I would love to see the Wii U get such a massive boost in clock speed, this sounds waaaaay too good to be true.
Unless of course, Nintendo asked Anna and her "sisters" to write a magical overclock tome.
@Hong What are you talking about? Anri never had kids, but Marth is counted as his descendant by sharing his bloodline, i.e. Anri's brother having children. And the only other game where you are in control of children of the adult characters is Seisen no Keifu; hardly the entire series. If you are referring to how there are a few characters that have adoption in their back stories, that's still only minuscule amount. Most characters who've lost their parents are simply orphaned and never truly adopted or were taken into the church. The only characters I can recall outside the children of FE4 that were adopted or would become adopted were Nino (more of a kidnapping and brainwashing) and Erk (if supported with Louise I think).
@Zombie_Barioth Ah, well, I understand that then. No problems.
It DOES seem to me that Capcom is trying a tad bit harder on making a story for the Monster Hunter games, with Monster Hunter 4 having your hunter being a part of a traveling caravan and with the game having more NPCs than ever before. But...going forward I doubt Monster Hunter will ever have some kind of really in-depth story. The series never tried very hard to have any kind of really dramatic story sequences, and by now I don't think it'd fit very well with the series. However, if they can just cook up decent minimalist stories, it'd be fine. We're still getting pretty fun games after all.
@Zombie_Barioth
Random comment from Neoseeker huh? Well just don't trust any bit of info on the Internet that isn't clearly backed at least a few sources. Also, Capcom has been changing their damage formulas recently, so I don't doubt the formula will be different for this game, especially with the audiences they're aiming for with MHO.
As for MH3U, true they could've, but in case you didn't know this game was originally made in under a year. Besides, until recently, MH was not a story-heavy game. MH3 gave a more functioning story than past games, but it was still just a reason to smack around giant lizards. MH4 is looking to improve MH's storytelling even further, and they probably decided not to put the same amount of effort into revamping MH3U with a much improved story. Both games were being developed simultaneously, it makes more sense to put more effort into the start of a brand new Monster Hunter generation than a Director's Cut. Personally I find the small story additions in MH3U were more than enough.
@SCAR392 Oh, just to clear any confusion, I was replying to what you said about publishers and why would they not want to publish good, finished games. I used NoA as my example of a publisher, as they refused to publish the Operation Rainfall games in America (Xenoblade was an incredible stroke of luck for fans).
@bunnyking ... DICE is the dev that created and maintains the Frostbite Engines. So two engines huh? Wii U still fully supports CryEngine 3, which is comparable to those first two.
@Zombie_Barioth
No idea where you've been hearing that and who your source is, but it just sounds false to me. From what I've played of Hunter Blade and what I've seen of MHO, there's absolutely no way that it can simply be a redone Hunter Blade. The assets are completely different, and since MHO is on a completely different and far more advanced engine, everything would be remade anyway. Which costs a lot of money. Hunter Blade takes MH's concept and battle system and maybe a few snall monster designs, but other than that you simply cannot mistake it as an actual MH game.
Basically, I guess I'm saying that the equivalent of your statement would be Nintendo taking some random Game Maker-made Mario clone and then renaking it into a true Mario game using one of their own engines. Or perhaps a better comparison would be Square Enix taking some random RPG Maker game and then remaking it into a sequel to Final Fantasy 6 using another engine.
P.S. MH3U is merely a Director's Cut of MH3. Meaning it uses MH3 as a base and includes additional content and graphical updates. It's basically the same thing as Pokemon Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, etc. Or the same thing as Deus Ex Human Revolution Director's Cut. If you want a new story, wait for MH4.
In conclusion, MH3U is the G Edition game of the third generation of MH games. The G games are the Director's Cuts of the MH series. They are the most complete versions of the games they're based on; the ultimate versions.
I don't know if this is off-topic, but if you were to download Tank! Tank! Tank! and buy all the parts of the game separately, it comes out at close to $32. That's cheaper than the current retail price at Gamestop ($50 for New). So we finally get a retail game that's cheaper on eShop than in retail stores. Personally I think the game should've been a $20-25 eShop-only game to begin with, but this is nice. Going to get Story Mission and My Kong Mode and then wait and hope for them to pull a Fire Emblem Awakening and do a cheaper bundle price for the maps.
"However, we have a strong partnership with Nintendo and will continue to evaluate opportunities for delivering additional Madden NFL products for Nintendo fans in the future."
Lies. Everyone knows EA wants to try hurting Nintendo in every way they possibly can. So why go through the effort of thinking up a badly written lie when they can just tell the truth and say what they really meant?
I'm still amazed Criterion were able to release NFS for Wii U. I would've thought that EA would stop them at the door.
@retro_player_22 (whose reply seems to have removed any connection to mine)
Perhaps I should have said something along the lines of: Having similar games is not the problem. PS3 and 360 have games similar to what you listed and their successors are pretty much going to have similar games to those as well. Will that mean people will confuse PS4 with PS3? Or Nextbox with the X360?
@GN004Nadleeh
I don't know much. Which is what I should've said before. Hardly anyone knows what the Wii U is even capable of and how it compares to other consoles. There are just too many unknowns about the Wii U, that we can't make any accurate estimates at all. I doubt many developers would know what it's fully capable of due to what little time they've had with the hardware so far. It hasn't been a year since the Wii U released and if reports are anything to go by, only barely a year since devs have gotten their hands on final kits. It's too early to judge the system capabilities and far too early to deem it a failure. Your friend was correct in saying to wait for more games, and I suggest you learn some patience as well.
And I see you've edited your comment before I was able to post this reply. Don't worry, I won't embarrass you. Just learn to control yourself better on the Internet, mkay?
Once more phones are designed like Xperia Play to have a full or almost full gamepad built in (with better buttons than the Play of course, that thing wasn't so great) and once more controllers come out that use an actual standard controller API that can be used on ALL non-gesture-only smartphone games, then smartphones can start making a case. And once smartphones are able to get a virtual reality MMO game like in the .hack games and movies with near-realistic graphics and that use a small and compact headset (in the form of glasses preferably), THEN consoles will be in trouble.
Nintendo overestimated the level of intelligence of many of their audience this time around. Critical thinking isn't something used by enough people these days. Sadly, Nintendo needs to rework their strategy to find ways to literally SPOON-FEED all Wii U info to the masses. Use baby words.
And? Everything on TV has violence except maybe Teletubbies. Why not go after TV? Or books? Books can be violent, too. Even some children's books. In the end, all this violence being done in real life comes down to bad parenting. Because let's face it, parenting in America gets worse every generation.
Personally, I think the only games that would make any sense at all on the Cloud are MMOs and other online-only games. And even those, I'd rather have installed on my system to ensure a stable level of quality.
@ouroborous They're still pretty cheap though. If you're going to get memory for a game system, you might as well get the one that can offer the biggest bang for your buck. And for many people, it seems 32 GB for around $20-30 is the optimal amount. Plus waiting for Black Friday can net you a high quality card like the SanDisk Ultra 32 GB for around $17 at retail stores instead of the usual $27 off Amazon.

Personally, I think the only games that would make any sense at all on the Cloud are MMOs and other online-only games. And even those, I'd rather have installed on my system to ensure a stable level of quality.

They're still pretty cheap though.
