JellySplat commented on Best Buy Cancellations of Majora's Mask 3D New...:

I think the main problem here is that BestBuy pre-sold more systems then they had available, so the issue isn't lack of incoming stock from Nintendo, its the fact that BestBuy was unable to tell how many systems they were getting in, or anticipate the overwhelming amount of fans who would be purchasing the item.
I promise you, not a single person who ordered this system from GameStop will get an email saying their order was canceled, because GameStop knows how to handle preorders properly, and **probably** keeps better contact with Nintendo.

I agree, that while manufacturing more units would fix the lack of stock problem, it would also decrease the value of the item greatly.
And TBH if all you care about is aesthetics, and don't give a patoot about collectors value, then there are some **really** nice looking decals out there that are a lot cooler than this pattern.

But that's just my take on it.

@Toxic2204

The faceplates are honestly the only reason I would've bought the smaller one, other than the smaller price tag! I think that the possibility of special edition faceplates, and more customization was a really great idea! However, when I saw that Majoras mask edition XL, I couldn't resist. Besides, it would've been hard to get used to a smaller screen anyway.

@WingedSnagret

You mean BestBuy? Nintendo clearly isn't the problem here. BestBuy should not have accepted more preorders than stock made available to them. Besides, its a Legend of Zelda limited edition item, of course its going to sell out in a day! Not to mention, there has been an unbelievable amount of hype for this game, being a fan favorite and all.

Disagree with me if you wish, but I believe Nintendo had very little to do with this problem.

Happened to me too! My brother and I each ordered a system with the same card, and ended up getting our orders reduced. But just last night, we got this exact email.

Good thing our local GameStop had a couple of preorder slots open, so we were able to get our systems there! The exact same thing happen with my preordered copy of Smash Wii U bundled edition, BB ran out of stock after they had already excepted my order. Again, I was lucky enough to find a copy of the bundle at GameStop! Who'da thunk!?

I will NEVER buy any video game related items from BestBuy again. GameStop>>>>>>>BestBuy

In bought that game on the eshop, and TBH I have always wished I'd bought the physical copy.

I love that game so much though! I have played it nearly 3 times now, and it always just as fun! Replay value is abundant in that game.

@iPWNoobs

Best buy doesn't get the consoles in until a certain date, so no they don't have them. Also, I just got an email saying that my already reduced order Has been fully canceled, due to the overwhelming popularity of the item, they didn't have enough stock to meet even the non duplicate orders. If there weren't enough systems to justify my order, after already being reduced once, then they most likely will not be going up on the website again.

But hey, even if they did... I'm not giving BestBuy any more of my money.

@pazuzu yeah, it sucks. Apparently though, BB sometimes gets extra stock from shipments and for this sort of thing, so what I was told was to get to the store early when it releases to have a chance at getting one.

The associates I spoke to were really trying, I'll give them that. But unfortunately, the way BestBuy works is they check their stock by looking at the online store, and if its out of stock there, then there's nothing they can do about it.

Call a few local GameStops, I actually JUST got off the phone with my brother, and he said he actually got one from them! GameStop is much better at controlling stock than BestBuy.

The sooner the better!

@Kisame83 what you're saying definitely makes sense, but i still dont think Nintendo is doing it "wrong". Different to be sure, but not wrong.

I mean, this is only the tip of the iceberg as far as limited editions go! I'm sure Nintendo will release a new one every couple of months. Just look at the regular 3DS XL, they were releasing special edition after special edition of that thing! Some more valuable than others, but still, there was something out there for everyone.

I truly do understand the point of view of people who werent able to get one, because of work or every day life. But I can't blame Nintendo for making this system a little more limited than the ones yet to come, (I mean, its Zelda! Of course its going to go out of stock! Not to mention, the game its based off is a fan favorite title!)

I honestly think that even if Nintendo were to print 10,000,000,000 of these things, they would still sell out in a week.

Just my opinion, everyone has the right to disagree.

@Kisame83

I'm afraid I don't know what those titles are, but I think you are underestimating the hugeness of the Legend of Zelda fanbase.

And I know a lot of people just like owning a cool looking system, and there's nothing wrong with that at all, but a lot of people like to own limited editions because they know that they are one of the few people who has one, which makes it feel a little motors special.

If everyone had access to limited editions 24/7, then what's the point of limiting it?

The only way the company could make more money on it, would be by raising the price of that particular item. The MM edition new 3DS is the same price as a regular unit, so it would be pointless for Nintendo to make TONS of the things.

Hopefully what I said made sense.

@vnminh1999 I forgive you :)

@russellohh

No, you see the company is ONLY getting enough systems in to accommodate the amount of un canceled preorders! The things haven't even shipped from the manufacturer yet!

They can't just get ordered by someone else either, because the Item is no longer on the BestBuy website! Like, it doesn't say "out of stock" or anything, the thing has been COMPLETELY removed! All of these things were told to me by the associates I spoke to at customer service. If you don't believe me, call them yourself.

And ordering them in stores won't do you any good either, because the people at the stores just use their website to order things! I could literally do just as much as someone at the store.

@Rezalack

Exactly. IDC if I missed out on buying the system the first time, but the fact is; I DID buy it, and the order was confirmed and everything! And then a week later I get an email saying "YOUR ORDER HAS BEEN CANCELED"...? I'm having a hard time seeing this as fair.

I mean, coming from bestbuy's perspective... They only had money to LOSE by doing all this! Scalpers or not, BestBuy canceled orders for multiple expensive systems, that could've ended up making the company a ton of money!

I appreciate their attempt to stop scalpers, but I can't help but wonder why they would've cared about it. A purchase is a purchase, so no matter who is buying it, BB still makes money on it.

If you're gonna have a policy to stop scalpers, do it right next time please. I think you actually just lost a ton of money, and pissed off more fans than you pleased. Good job BestBuy.

@DiscoGentleman

Well thanks dude! Although, I'm not looking for pity, I just want people to know that this was indeed BsstBuy's mistake. Heck, I even called customer support yesterday, and they even admitted that it was their mistake!

Like I said earlier, this WHOLE thing could've been avoided if BestBuy had just put up an annotation near the checkout on their website.

When all is said and done... Scalpers gonna scalp. Why risk losing money on expensive devices from excited fans, for the chance at maybe catching a couple of them?

IDK.

@russellohh

No sir, you see I am actually the one who reported this news to NL, and I'm afraid they misunderstood me.

You see, I am one of the people who has fallen victim to this, and I can tell you from my own personal experience, that all but one of the systems are being canceled.

JellySplat

JellySplat commented on Best Buy Is Cancelling Majora's Mask New 3DS X...:

And guys, lets not forget, the scalpers are still getting One of those systems.

BestBuy is only canceling double orders, and they're only canceling ONE of the systems that were double ordered. So for instance, scalper buys three systems, two systems get canceled, while one still gets shipped.

JellySplat

JellySplat commented on Best Buy Is Cancelling Majora's Mask New 3DS X...:

And yknow, this WHOLE thing could've been avoided it BestBuy had just put up an annotation saying "Limit one per credit card on this item" on their website!

BestBuy, I understand, and appreciate your attempt to control scalpers, but your way of doing so has caused terrible side effects.

JellySplat commented on Best Buy Is Cancelling Majora's Mask New 3DS X...:

And I don't believe its Nintendo's fault. I mean, what's the point of having a "Limited Edition" if its not a good bit more rare than the other systems? That's why its called a "Limited Edition".

I think BB should have made it two per household, because scalpers don't usually just buy two, they're more inclined to buy five and up! Also, since the order numbers on each system were completely unique, they should've taken that in to account.

Basically, their policy is limiting the system to one adult only, if you think about it. Because A: kids don't have credit cards, B: if one kid gets something, the other typically wants it too, and C: the ACTUAL scalpers are still getting ONE system! While other kids who wanted one are just SOL!

JellySplat commented on Best Buy Is Cancelling Majora's Mask New 3DS X...:

Well, as much as I dislike scalpers, I am one of those unfortunate few who has fallen victim to this terrible mistake. My brother and I each ordered one, and as it turns out, only ONE of our orders was canceled. You see, its limit one per credit card, but nowhere on the website does it actually SAY this, so you can imagine our shock when we received an email a week later saying our order had been canceled.

But here's the worst part: BestBuy will NOT be restocking the product! So all the canceled preorders, instead of getting shipped to their warehouse, are simply never going to get shipped out from the manufacturer! They are only stocking enough items to meet the preorder requirements, after the cancelation frenzy.

Trust me, I called the customer support line about four times asking about this.

Thanks NL for posting about the issue! I'm one of the guys who reported it to you yesterday.

Ope! I was right, once again best buy fails to deliver the goods so to speak.
Just got an email saying that my order was canceled because my brother and I both used the same card to purchase the items.

I hate you BestBuy. I utterly and completely HATE you, with a burning and fiery passion!
