Re: Ōkami HD

JasmineDragon

@Silly_G I think I saw somewhere that it's Japanese only, unfortunately. Not 100% sure.

Re: Ōkami HD

@Silly_G It's the necklace that pushes that version's price up. Necklace is silver and brass. Still overpriced, but that's what it is. I know there is also a bundle being sold with the pouch but without the necklace, for something like $80. I think that version sold out in about an hour, though.

Re: Rogue-Lites/Likes for Nintendo Switch

JasmineDragon

@Gungeonite I've always liked roguelikes. I've had Nethack on every PC I've ever owned. So far on Switch I only have Binding of Isaac. I like it but not as much as Nethack, I think because it's real-time and actiony rather than turn-based. Yeah, I'm one of tbose weirdos who like turn-based games.

BOI's art style is also kind of a turnoff. Not because it's "gross" - I actually like gross stuff, I'm a huge horror geek - but it's just kind of dreary and monotonous.

Still, BOI is a pretty cool game, and I've been meaning to get Enter the Gungeon for quite some time. Heard a lot of good things about it. But it always seems like there's another game I need more. I'll get to it eventually though.

I would like to see a return to the turn-based roguelikes of days past. I haven't seen a new one of those in ages. Last ones I can remember playing were Shiren the Wanderer and Izuna (which was actually roguelite) on the DS. Those were both pretty good if you like the genre.

I'll be watching this thread to see if anything else is coming out!

Re: Warriors-style games: what’s the appeal?

JasmineDragon

@Joeynator3000 Sailor Moon is the bomb. You should read the manga if you aren't already. It's really good. The show is a lot of fun, too, but the mythos of the manga is a lot better developed and the art is very well done. Not that the show isn't fun. I would totally be down for Sailor Moon Warriors.

To the OP: it's a combination of button mashing fun, light strategy and tactics, and collecting stuff, as well as a neat "alternate universe" story about characters you love.

Hyrule Warriors was a fun romp with the Zelda characters, with a neat addition to the mythos in Linkle, who is pretty awesome aside from her terrible name.

The only other Warriors-style game I've played is Fate/Extella. Unfortunately that didn't hold my interest as well since I don't know or care about the Fate characters and the story is horribly written. But it's fun enough to play from time to time when I want some button mashing action.

Re: Switch Physical Boxed Games List & Release Dates (US & CA)

JasmineDragon

My local Target sometimes has odd Switch things show up very randomly. For example, they had all of the BOTW Amiibo in a locked case when they were all very hard to find. Now they have Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Special Edition and SNES Minis in the same locked case where, apparently, nobody ever looks. I'm not sure if XC2-SE was really a limited release or not, but I know lots of people talked about not being able to find the SNES Mini. Well, Target have them - you just have to poke around a bit.

Re: Your Latest Switch Purchase

JasmineDragon

My wife got me the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Special Edition for our anniversary. My first non-standard edition of a Switch game. I'm not much of a collector but it's a beautiful set. I'm a sucker for art books and soundtracks, and the metal game case is very pretty.

Re: Do you still love your Switch?

JasmineDragon

@JorrieQPO I've had mine since launch day and I have to say it's one of my favorite gaming devices ever. I have a busy life and fierce competition for the only TV in the house, so the flexibility of the Switch makes it my ideal machine, and I don't need to buy a million games because I only have so much time. I also skipped most of the last two console generations. And finally, I have two kids, so I like most of my games to be kid-safe. I play mature titles too, but I do need kid-ready games.

So basically, I'm the Switch's perfect audience. And it has not failed to deliver everything I need. I'm playing several different RPGs, a couple of strategy titles and a bit of mindless action here and there. My kids have plenty to play - the eldest has put hundreds of hours into Zelda and Stardew Valley, and the youngest has completed SMO and Snipperclips, dabbled in Stardew and Battle Chef Brigade, and loves to play ARMS with me.

The top titles are very expensive for my taste, but there are also plenty of cheap games that are great. I'm playing Manticore right now and it's tremendous. I've gotten many hours over my money's worth from Fast RMX and Stardew Valley. If I ever run out of new RPGs to dive into (no, it's not looking likely at the moment) I want to get Golf Story.

I won't say the Switch is perfect, I've had some issues with a Joy-Con dying, the download speeds are terrible, and it truly isn't as portable as my beloved 3DS. I also really wish it came with more storage and that the physical releases of indie games didn't come with the Switch Tax. But it's a beautiful system for me, and yes, I still love my Switch.

Re: Pokemon TCGO for Switch.

JasmineDragon

@Heavyarms55 I understand why they keep producing new sets, it's an intrinsic part of the CCG genre. I get why they have to keep doing it. But you must know that it's a pretty significant barrier to the vast majority of casual players. Most people just don't have the money to devote to chasing Magic rares or buying Pokemon EX sets at the expense of all the other games we could be playing. You asked why PCGO isn't that popular around here, I guarantee you this is the #1 reason.

Personally, I like to buy and play card games but hate the blind bag CCG model. Pokemon TCG is a nice game to play with my daughter, so I've bought a few theme decks and other basic sets, and I pick up a couple of boosters here and there because the cards are neat. Same thing goes for Magic. The total that I've spent on those two games together is maybe $200 over the course of the last five years.

But the majority of my card and board gaming is with games that eschew the collectable aspect and have closed sets instead. There are actually a ton of alternatives to the CCG model. There's everything from Living Card Games like Android: Netrunner and Lord of the Rings LCG to non-collectable Magic-inspired games like Star Realms and Mage Wars Academy. You get a whole game including a few high-powered cards at a fraction of what it would cost to build a competitive Magic deck. All these games do release expansion sets (there are a LOT of expansions for LOTR:LCG) to keep the metagame alive, but the expansions are balanced and fixed. You're not buying booster after booster in the hopes that you'll find that one shiny Pokemon to complete your deck.

@HiFX what’s the inside cover look like? I bought it from amazon and it has Wild Guns Reloaded printed on the inside. Major bummer.

Apparently all copies of GG2 were misprinted with the internal art from Wild Guns Reloaded. I understand if it's a bummer, but looking on the bright side this will make your copy a lot more collectable if they do a fixed reprint. I'm not a collector myself, but a lot of collectors want misprints like this more than anything.

@ogo79 Dude. Everyone who buys this game should have to sign a statement affirming that ham and pineapple pizza is life.

If by "life" you mean "abomination unto God" then yes, i agree.

👹 I love it. I like to get different things, sometimes that means a weirdly sweet and tangy pizza.

Also, I really love the look of this game!

I must say, I am liking Lydie and Suelle more and more, both the characters and the game. Alchemy is lots of fun. The music is amazing, and I have just met the cutest shopkeeper in any video game ever. I don't know how long it will last, but I'm really happy I bought this.

Re: Is the pro controller d-pad terrible?

JasmineDragon

My PC D-pad isn't bad at all in my opinion. It's not the best ever - (I think the GC Wavebird is the best) but it works. Mind you, I don't play a lot of fighting games, but I do play games that use it a lot. And I don't hate it.

Not discounting the possibility that some games might need a better one. But also, it's one flaw in an otherwise beautiful controller.

@TalonMan Daaaamn, dude!!

My collection is 15 or 16 physical games... I guess you could say I'm extra strategic in my collecting! 😆

Feeling some Switch envy looking at those pictures, but honestly I don't have nearly enough money to start seriously collecting games, and my wife would kick me to the curb if I tried. I have more games than I can play to the end, and that's good enough for me.
