Hong commented on Rumour: Nintendo NX Won't Be As Powerful As Pl...:

Not like we needed a public statement to know Nintendo hasn't been about power for the past 15 years.

I also don't necessarily think this means a gimmick; If they make a console that's cheap to manufacture, easy to develop on, and has an appealing software base, it will sell. Nintendo's strength is in their IPs and their affordability.

I don't care about them, but they are considered a feature of Nintendo's products, so may as well.

Ultimately I don't care about which characters show up, so long as there is variety and they represent Nintendo's history as a whole. The characters merely need to be fun, and they need to be balanced. We can't judge neither until we've had the opportunity to play as them ourselves.

Hong commented on Soapbox: Ignoring The Objectification Of Women...:

As a feminist, I have no issue with the portrayal of women in a game designed for sexual gratification.

My issue is when the sole representation of women in a product are to be victims or sexualized, or just obnoxiously designed based on some narrow scope of what it means to be a woman, in products where sexual or romantic themes are not the core value. Cases where male characters are treated like actual... people. This includes tropes such as the damsel in distress, bikini armour, and the token pink female.

The strongest appeal XBox had in Asia is the online service is great for fighters. Now you can play most fighters on PC, and since many fighting gamers use fight sticks, their skill transfers seamlessly. Unless you are an odd one to like shooters, not much appeal left in the hardware.

It's marketed well for its intended audience.

If you are going to sell a game where sex is an intended feature, that's fine. It's only a problem for me when horrible depictions of women are in a game where it doesn't belong, which happens more than it should.

Everyone wants every character ever to be playable.

Personally I rather have them focus on 30-35 characters and make them GOOD. Make sure they are fun, unique, and balanced. It adds more fun and life to the product overall.

Hong commented on Talking Point: With Calls for Nintendo to Foll...:

It is not as black and white as analysts make it out to be. The main-stay Nintendo products can remain where they are. That said, I think they could try developing something like Panel de Pon for eShop and other portable devices. Just having the Nintendo name on it would generate a lot of interest.

Hong commented on Miyamoto Unsure Nintendo Can Make Another "Gre...:

F-Zero is something you do not really need to focus on changing at its core to be appealing. All creativity should go into the tracks and potentially racers. F-Zero GX had an absolutely gorgeous array of tracks to race on.

Hong commented on Nintendo - Inclusion of Peach in Super Mario 3...:

Yeah... Peach does not really hit any notes with me. I know it is asking for a lot, but maybe she could be given more... functional attire. Maybe she can be given an outfit like Luigi and Mario, only pink instead of green/red, and she can be less like a trophy and more of a hero. Not a change to her "classic" look, but just for games like this.

Actually, the historical hero Anri never had any children, yet Marth and his line are considered descendants. What is more is the series is full of characters being adopted or not having any parental links. They could still allow stats/skills to be inherited (parental tutelage) , and just give the child a default hair colour or something. Political correctness aside, i would have enjoyed same sex unity in FE:A just because I would have liked more options.
