So many inconsistencies with the promo photo.

1. Why are the two Asian chicks hanging out with that thug? Unless it's the set for a blue movie, it looks pretty implausible..
2. Why do they all look like they've never played 3ds before? They're not stereotypical looking gamer grrls.
3. Therefore, who is being targeted in this ad?
... ...
Not buying it.

HnD commented on Poll: Where Do You Stand on Miiverse and Its P...:

A big part of Ma N's rationale is that user conversations are "limiting peoples' full enjoyment of the games." Where did that happen? Everyone posts on WiiFit or YouTube if they want to blab about nothing. That's a full 1% of their communities, but accounts for the great majority of traffic to their forum.

The moderators may have their hands full, but don't overlook false-reporting and overly severe perma-bans with no means for remediation.

"Making Miiverse better." What great Newspeak for a big shakedown.

China needs to give its workers a few days off, and Nintendo needs to stop populating its e-shop with these 30-year outdated duds.

Still, unexplainably, NL ranks this higher than Japanese Rail Sim 3D. Go figure.

TRUE: This game could likely appeal most to a niche audience.
FALSE: This game deserves 3/10.
Biases: I love riding trains in Japan.

The demo is a good time. Give it a whirl and hopefully, buy the full game to support the great little company making it.

3/10 feels like a death sentence.

HnD commented on Nintendo Gets Tough With Miiverse Bans, and So...:

I've been around the block; done the "Phone call to Miiverse Admins rodeo"; written on blogs and commiserated with fellow users. The perma-ban and severe moderation are rotten to the core. Young people, "family-friendly" sure, if you draw a giant ding-dong that's one thing, but now people have been reduced to writing disclaimers on their forum posts to the admins in hopes of not being banned.

I once wrote, "Admins, this is not hateful. This is a discussion about XYZ." You know what happened? The admin threw that in my face, deleted the post, and banned me.

It's probably not possible with their personnel size for the admins to review every single complaint/infraction etc., but when they do, they do a fairly ham-fisted job. Otherwise, they have to do it robotically, in bulk, without context and then seldom reverse themselves.

If you choose to use MV (a privilege), the punishments for being moderated are very severe, including being cut off permanently from peer groups, since outside interaction is forbidden as one of the first rules. The hair-trigger moderation is a whole other issue. When they do get involved, it's a zero-sum game. Every small ding brings you closer to a lifetime ban.

So you don't have to use Miiverse, but the temptation is there, you enter the fray and do some free promotion for Nintendo, and then they toss your charred husk onto a funeral pyre.

I made a policy recommendation concerning Miiverse "perma-bans". The "perma" is far too severe in most cases - responsible use of the forum and context are not evaluated when admins deny forum privileges.

Alternatives exist, such as different-length ban periods, fines, correspondence, fact-finding, and use of more neutral guidelines when determining bans. Phone calls with administrators are far too unpleasant and embarrassing to have to argue for favorable outcomes.

My last phone call to administrator "Miss R." was about my being banned for saying "Root Beer" and drawing a root beer stein. The call ended up in a no-kidding shouting match. The admin talking over me, condescension, just utter nonsense. Far, far too stupid an experience.

@Stitches et al.

I'm color-blind as schnitzel. (Red-green color deficient, sorryyyyy.)

Monster Manor on the Street Pass suite is the WORST. Can't tell orange from green, green from red, nor yellow from yellow-green.

A lot more guys have this issue than one might think. Good move, Nintendo.

The moderation on Miiverse is way too heavy-handed. The perma-bans should expire after a month unless someone is posting pr0n or something obscene.

The place is full of people who make report-bombing a sport, and the moderation should be relaxed.

Hats off to the author (and the tipster) for making such a good article happen.

America has thousands upon thousands of laws already and doesn't need another, "You can't, you can't," codfied into law. Where would you stop? You know the kind of ads going on during kids' shows.

However, this kind of guidance is good. Unfortunately, the UK's amount of specious, overblown and unnecessary law-making makes it nearly impossible to live. "Wanna take a dump? You need to A,B, and C first, and make sure you're not offending anyone, etc. etc. ad nauseam.)

The independent RCRU is still updating their [fantastic] Kickstarter page. About 6 mos. delayed.

This sequel news is very confusing. I thought we'd heard the last of Kunio-kun outside of Conatus Creative's project.

HnD commented on Steel Diver: Sub Wars Version 3.0 in Developme...:

I have a controversial opinion on the change in Update 3.0 preventing team kills: It's going to affect close-quarters battle in a negative way. The change should not be made!! Reason: aiming with precision and choosing carefully is more desirable for realism and emphaisizing skill. When 2 or 3 are ganging up on 1 player from three bearings, in the way things are, the poor schmoe in the middle could have some hope of escaping; people choose carefully as to not hit a teammate and suffer a point deduction. In Update 3.0, everyone will be spamming torpedoes with reckless abandon, skill is deemphasized. Strategy and fine-tuning should remain the dominant feature, now we'll get derp, and I also won't be able to send any more love notes back if someone friendly fires on me. P.S.: JOIN FLUFFY CLAN FTW.

Doom and gloom, the end is nigh. I hate to be so dramatic, but the Update 2.0 two play coin requirement for internet multiplayer (non-premium) could fall on its face. In other words, they are really turning the thumb screws for people to buy the game, but I guess Nintendo really researched the market and said, "Damn the torpedoes..."

We shall see...

I second everything Klimbatize said, and third everything Noonch said. What I would really like to see is more than one new multiplayer arena. I'm glad they're taking time they need to get the update out instead of rushing.

Ack. Annoying as hell. Normal notifications will get drowned out because of the flood of new ones. Also, if I need translation support for a post, three extra clicks are now needed for me move to the post, copy the post, and return to the original. TOO MUCH STUFF. The simpler, the better.
