@creepingdeth21 Oops, for some reason the full stop at the end of my sentence was treated as part of the link, which broke it. It should be working now. Sorry about that!
A lot of people seem to be very quick to side against the creator of Nyan Cat, calling him a greedy, money-grabbing scumbag. IANAL, however, has anyone considered the following?
> Nyan Cat has been a registered property since 2011, so it has the same protections as any of WB's characters. I'm sure if anyone were to use WB's characters commercially without gaining permission from them, WB would be straight in there with a lawsuit.
> As a registered property, the owner of Nyan Cat has a legal obligation to protect his trademark. If he does not take appropriate steps to defend his trademark (i.e. requesting royalties/removal of the character from the game) then he loses his rights to the character, and then any company can use it for commercial purposes. I.e. he can't NOT sue.
> The creator is said to have approached WB and 5th Cell amicably to begin with, however both companies merely brushed them aside. Not a very professional way to deal with the situation imo. This also shows the creator hasn't just bombed straight into a lawsuit without prior discussion.
> Many other companies choose to licence Nyan Cat, so why not WB?
> This does not in any way affect "fair use" of the character, i.e. non profit/derivate/parody works. This is a situation where someone else's creation has been used commercially.
Personally, I feel as if a lot if misinformation is being spread, and as I am on speaking terms with the creator, I feel obliged to spread his side of the story. Don't forget, he is the little guy standing up against the big guy. Why are we shooting him down?
EDIT: "neither meme was trademarked until 2010, a year after the first Scribblenauts game emerged."
But Nyan Cat wasn't created until April 2011, irrc...
I will be working this promo event! I'll be in charge of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate in the Oracle Centre (Reading) tomorrow, so it would be awesome to see some of you come in and have a go at some quests and arena challenges (and show me how it's done since I am a bit of a noob when it comes to MonHun)!!
I'll also have my personal 3DS on me for Streetpass and Puzzle Pieces.
Ha ha true, but you know what I mean. I don't think I've found any single player Mario Kart to be enjoyable as Sonic ASR Transformed's World Tour mode, and I haven't even tried the Grand Prix and Multiplayer modes yet. I am having an incredibly tough time trying to S-Rank all the missions, at least they're all great fun!
Except Traffic Attack missions. Whoever created those needs to be burned alive.
I've been playing Sonic & ASR Transformed on my 360 since buying it a week or so ago, and I have to say I am completely and utterly addicted to it. It pretty much blows Mario Kart 7 out of the water in every single way.
If the 3DS version offers a comparable experience to the console versions, then I may be tempted to pick it up.
That's pretty cool! I wonder if it would fit my Nexus 4? This would be handy for playing other Android games - the touch controls in Sonic 4 Episode II, for example, are terrible!
I like FPS games as much as the next guy (massive Halo fan) but I can't help but agree with Miyamoto here. The industry seems to be very heavily reliant on shooters lately, in fact I feel that's almost exclusively what my Xbox is used for. Which is why I play Wii so much, because it's nice to be able to play something a little more different and fun.
Hmm, it says Kid's Gear on the front of the box instead of Game Gear. How odd. Shame no-one here can explain, guess I'll just have to conduct my own research instead.
Agreed. Getting a game cheap off of Amazon or delivered straight to your HDD via Steam is nice and all, but it lacks that personal charm and enjoyment of walking into a store, seeing products on the shelf, talking to staff, etc etc etc. I much prefer physical goods over digital downloads, and if a new company cannot emerge from the ashes of GAME then I seriously doubt the future of physical releases will last for too much longer.
Best wishes to everyone working at Game and GameStation.
Lovingly restored my Game Gear a few years back, so the sound and screen worked. Still doesn't solve the problem with the console's sheer bulk, although high drain 2500mAh batteries means I can get at least 10 hrs gameplay from one charge now. Love that these are now coming to VC now, will make things a hell of a lot more convenient. Gunstar Heroes and Micro Machines plz!
I had my own 3DS which I played a lot on before racing your ghost data, and I think the staff were also somewhat interested to see if someone could beat your time. The one thing I could not manage that you could though, is on the first turn of Toad Circuit, I could see you were producing two sets of orange sparks, whilst I could only ever manage a blue and an orange, giving you that slight edge. There were a couple of instances where I would get ahead of the ghost but then fudge up later on, e.g. hitting a pipe or cutting a turn too tight and hitting the grass. Eventually my hands were just starting to seize up, so I just went and submitted the closest time to 1:26 I could.
Also, after watching the video of your record, your character and play style (drifting over the corners) looked very similar to some gameplay at the Bit.Trip Nintendisco a week or so ago. You didn't happen to go there as well did you?
On the subject of Bit.Trip, SAGA was definitely one of the lesser played games at the Nintendo stand. I don't think anybody cared when I sat down there and got lost in that game for a good hour or so.
I went to the Nintendo stand in Westfield, Stratford City today, and entered the Mario Kart Time Trial. After about 3 hours of practice, I set a time of 1:26.152. Yep, that's me in 1st place for the day, but 2nd over the course of the week. The staff even mentioned Sami was a professional who had mad ninja skills. I just thought he was some kid who was really good at MK7, not a world record holder!!
I won one of the two games at that Nintendisco event a while back. I don't actually know which version I'm getting though, but I will be buying the other!
I was walkin' through the city streets, And a man walks up to me and hands me the latest game enhancer. "Run faster, jump higher!" Man, I'm not gonna let you poison my games! I threw it on the ground!
Wish they could give a more definitive release date for SAGA and COMPLETE. I've been itching for some portable mind-numbing retro arcade action since they were released in the States back in September. Still, I'm glad to see these two suckers will finally be seeing release over here. Quadruple dipping ftw!
If Amazon don't bring it to their own app store, I do believe it is possible to root the device and install the Android Market that way. If not you could try finding the .apk file online and sideloading it onto the device via USB. Wouldn't know for sure though, as UK= no Kindle Fire.
What exactly is the problem here? I mean, obviously many of Sonic's previous console outings have not been up to standard, but Sonic Colours was a great game, Generations was utterly superb, and whilst Sonic 4 had a few physics niggles and was a tad on the short side I still found it great fun to play. You're whining about a game which we know very little about. The introduction of Tails and Metal Sonic, plus revamped physics and graphics engines, are very good signs in my opinion. And whilst it does suck that (as of now) it appears the game is not coming to WiiWare, I would say that positive in the sense that SEGA are not restricted by Nintendo's silly 40MB file size cap.
@James That's probably an accurate estimate actually. While I'm not saying there aren't nice people at Game, everyone in GameStation seems to express an interest in gaming, and enjoys chatting about games and the like. Some do in Game, however more often than not I just get marketing rubbish shoved down my throat. Plus I get real life Achievements for shopping at GameStation (OMG NO WAI)!
