I can't understand why Nintendo included this totally random Japanese teenage game in their Digital Event and left Fast Racing Neo out completely. There's a really dedicated 3rd party developer making an amazing looking game on Wii U... and they use his time for Japanese stuff nobody even understands :-/

HarryK commented on Exclusive: Slightly Mad Studio Head Ian Bell S...:

@HappyMaskedGuy Thanks for the exact quote. I remember them clearly stating multiple times how awesome the game looks and runs on Wii U. And now they act as if there never was a Wii U version to begin with? Well, that might just be the truth. Either way - don't lie to your customers like that.

HarryK commented on Art Academy: Atelier Sketched In For 26th June...:

Yeah, I was also under the impression that SketchPad told you that lessons will arrive later. That's why I bought SketchPad. That's why the option on the start screen is there. They are not getting 26 Euros from me like this :-/

@WaveWarlock Sorry, but to me, all your "improvements" sound terrible. I like the show the way it is - watchable for both children and adults. And I find both hosts quite likeable (him more). They sound like normal geeks/fans and not like paid hosts reading scripts. Flashy Nintendo music and green screens would turn this into a cheap Japanese commercial.

I had to go with Metroid, even though I also have my fingers crossed for Galaxy.

I hope it's an older game though. Something from the N64 era with a completely new feeling thanks to the visuals. Majora's Mask would be my favorite by far.

HarryK commented on Meet LeapTV, The Wii Challenger in 2014:

The commercial looks nice. I can see some parents falling for it. The "whole family" strategy of the Wii was important, though, so I don't think a "kids only" console can sell well.

And I'm wondering how many patents they will be sued over.

They are not making a secret out of the influence Minish Cap has. They drew everything from scratch though, as they have shown in an update on Kickstarter. I can live pretty well with a spiritual Minish Cap successor.

Think bigger: Nintendo Home.
Your voice-controlled and talking personal Nintendo buddy inside your walls.

It reminds you of stuff and motivates you with real-life achievements. If you're willing to let them scan you with 3d sensors the whole time. I would.

HarryK commented on Nintendo Needs To Cut Wii U Cost To Capitalise...:

Is he really threatening them to still not release this one finished game they have, when there are more Wii U's out there than XbOnes?

The Amazon price in Germany seems about right: 280 bucks for a Wii U with Mario Kart. I'd buy it!

What kind of friends do you have on your list that you can't handle one of their yeah'ed posts? I actually think this is a great idea as I'm usually interested in whatever my friends are interested in (e.g. beautiful artwork).

HarryK commented on Emulation Experts M2 Worked With Nintendo On W...:

I still think that there will be a 3DS(U) announced at E3 that will work as a Wii U controller. On the go it plays all VC games and 3DS titles (and uses the new Wii U home screen as 3DS OS), at home it plays VC titles, Wii U games and (3)DS games on the controller & TV.

All it needs to make this work is a (detachable) 2nd screen for the controller.

Many 3DS users will feel the urge to upgrade (to enjoy GBA and DS titles on the 3DS) and the Wii U and 3DS install base grows. I really think this could "save" Wii U.

HarryK commented on Preview: Mario Kart 8:

This looks promising!

But... They are taking forever to get this out and don't even implement a 2nd screen in multiplayer on the Gamepad? What the?! I mean, what is the point in releasing it on May 30th (2 months from now) if there is an important feature missing and they can't take care of it? They have been showing off a finished product for quite some time now.

I really don't get how Nintendo decided to miss all the easter sales. IMHO that might have been their last chance to turn sales around. Now MK8 will be released right before summer where nobody cares. I just don't get it.

HarryK commented on Feature: Looking Back on the Year of Luigi:

I really like Luigi, but I'm kind of glad his year is over.

Stuff like this is nice when Nintendo is doing fine, like in the first years of Wii's life. But the Wii U needed attention so desperately, and I always had the feeling that Nintendo was using too much energy/resources (and Nintendo Direct "screentime") on Luigi stuff, when they really had more important things to do. So for the same reason "Year of Yoshi" is the last thing I want right now. Sorry :-/

They really should go BIG and declare the "Year of Nintendo" for 2014. With Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros. and their reimagined partnerships/licencing models with other companies, this could have an impact that will last. Bring back the "Big N" times!

HarryK commented on Game Boy Advance Titles To Hit Wii U Virtual C...:

Why not show off the unified account system and offer those games on both consoles? I don't get it.

Also, I'm totally lost why they haven't shown off N64 games or polished N64 games (just outsource it to any random company that has made one good looking game) by now. Why why why?

It's nice to have a new platform, but I already have all GBA I care for on the 3DS (which makes it even more random that nobody today can buy them).

It looks amazing. I just hope they have all the circles on the gamepad now so we don't have to jump left and right and up and down in the middle with the d-pad anymore. That was one of the only flaws the system had.

I can understand that this looks pretty boring if you don't know Xenoblade Chronicles, though. I hope everyone gets the chance to find out that it's definitely NOT.

@Senario IIRC I fought some of the toughest battles with Melia / Riki / Shulk or Melia / Riki / Sharla. I'm sure it depends on the enemy/boss, but sometimes it felt like I could go on forever with these parties.

HarryK commented on Nintendo Ends Partnership With Austrian Distri...:

This is great news. Stadlbauer might have done a good job like 15 years ago, but I felt they were getting lazier and lazier. I think until Nintendo took over they were still showing the Wii, while the Wii U was out for months.

@Splashman You know Austria is "Germany's southern neighbor" too, I hope? Your comment reads differently

I already feel sorry for everyone who backs this. To me this just screams SCAM. Not because it's a ripoff, but because I find it quite obvious that this will never get made. Not even started. I think they'll cash in the money, publish some fake screenshots and then "cancel" the project for random reasons.

I mean, they stare at 2 pictures on tablets for half a minute. Nothing moves. Can anyone find proof that "Dot studios" can actually programm games? My Google finds nothing.

HarryK commented on Iwata And Miyamoto Both Take Pay Cuts In Respo...:

Uhm... without numbers that doesn't say anything at all. Iwata should get an average every-day-loan for what he did last year (more precise: for what he didn't do). I assume 50 % of what he usually earns is still a lot, though.

@Kirk "I understand companies using the whole share method"
There's your problem - you don't.

@Emblem I can't imagine that's their goal. Buying back stocks is good for their investors. On an abstract level it's like giving them back some of their money they've invested (because it increases their share values). They do this to make investors happy. And for tax reasons, I assume.

HarryK commented on Nintendo of America Offers Stock of Refurbishe...:

I thought 250 has already been the normal price since they announced the 300 Dollar bundles?

In Germany you get the Premium console + Mario + Luigi for 288 Euros (equals to 288 Dollars in entertainment logic).

HarryK commented on Talking Point: An Unplanned Flash Sale Looked ...:

@ACK Sure... cause I'm the only person who would buy games they wouldn't buy otherwise. The article above got so many things right. Nintendo just has to figure out which games to put on sale and when to do it. It will drive software sales and could even create interest in the hardware (Wii U, the new Steam). Of course they should never ever throw away something like Mario Kart in a flash sale, but there are enough older games that would make sense. I'm sure Ubisoft made good money off their holiday sales.

HarryK commented on Talking Point: An Unplanned Flash Sale Looked ...:

I would have bought FOUR games yesterday that I will most likely miss out now (I don't have time for them anyway, but that's what happens to all my Steam purchases).

So Nintendo would've gotten ~ € 40 out of me that they will never see now! If they do it right, then flash sales can be a gold mine.
