gundam00 commented on Tomodachi Collection: New Life Features Same-S...:

@Intrepid Marriage is a big component in Harvest Moon and Fire Emblem (unlike Mario and Zelda), and when they purposely restrict their players to straight marriage only, that discriminates against players who are gay because it tells them they can only participate in straight marriages. And the fact that these games could have included gay marriage but chose to neglect it, is more sign that leaving out gay marriage was intentional and rooted in discrimination.

Also, if gay marriage in Tomodachi was unintended, why should it be removed? Some people seem to enjoy that feature. Why would you want to take someone's happiness away from them?

gundam00 commented on Tomodachi Collection: New Life Features Same-S...:

I think this is excellent news! It's about time equality enters the video game realm. Unfortunately, I think this feature will be removed by NOA, since NOA has a long history of censoring games (I'm not familiar with NOE). Those "Did You Know? Gaming" YouTube videos do a great job highlighting a lot of the censorship that has gone on since the NES days.

I personally don't support games that involve marriage-discrimination such as Fire Emblem and Harvest Moon. As much as I would like to play those games, I find the marriage inequality to be too repulsive.

There was a great discussion a couple years ago about Dragon Age II having gay relations. A self-identified straight male complained about the game having gay characters and how the developers neglected their core users which the user said were straight males, while demanding that all future games have a setting to disable gay characters within the game. Here are a couple highlights from one of the game's developers refuting the "straight male" user's demands:

The majority has no inherent “right” to get more options than anyone else.

You can write it off as “political correctness” if you wish, but the truth is that privilege always lies with the majority. They’re so used to being catered to that they see the lack of catering as an imbalance. They don’t see anything wrong with having things set up to suit them.

And the person who says that the only way to please them is to restrict options for others is, if you ask me, the one who deserves it least.

Thanks @theblackdragon for all your hard work keeping NintendoLife a safe place for users to openly participate in a discussion by keeping the thread civil and hate-free; it's a tough job! Cheers!!

gundam00 commented on CNN Money: Nintendo Is "Tone Deaf" To Industry...:

I thought this was funny lol :

Instead, Nintendo frequently opts to develop its own warped, counterintuitive take on the latest trends.

Overall, I think this article did a better job of discussing Nintendo's faults than other writers have. I know for me personally, I would have bought a Wii U already if it played BluRay discs, unfortunately, I had to drop $100 on a stand-alone BluRay player when that money could have gone towards a Wii U.

Nintendo likes to live in its own bubble, which would be fine if they kept a look outside their window to see what the rest of us are doing.

I don't think it was the game itself that polarized Capcom staff members. What polarized Capcom staff members was that there were some staff members who actually WANTED to release a Mega Man game! The nerve of those employees! Don't they know Capcom means to wipe Mega Man from the history books. Cease and desist letters to everyone! Fire those employees for mutiny this instant!!!

gundam00 commented on Review: Liberation Maiden (3DS eShop):

I got this game yesterday during the sale. The game is really fun. The anime cut-scenes are wonderfully done, the voice acting is great, and the vocal songs are excellent!

I'm surprised this review failed to mention that the game is for right-handed players only. There is no option to rearrange the button layout to suit left-handed players, as there is in Kid Icarus. As I am left-handed, playing the game is difficult and tiring, not to mention frustrating because I could play better if this were adapted for left-handed players.

Sadly, this is yet another game that could benefit by the 3DS having two thumbpads smh.

What surprised me the most was this:

1. [3DS] Tomodachi Collection: New Life – 404,858 (New)
4. [3DS] Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon – 41,296 (557,271)

Luigi's Mansion has been out for a month, and first week sales of Tomodachi equals 73% of Luigi's Mansion's 4 week sales. In other words, Tomodachi should surpass LM sales within 2 days.

@mullen You're right! I bet that explains the jump in LL/XL sales.

We all agree this needs to be remedied.

Now, what should we do in the meantime? Is making a backup copy of the SD card on your computer enough of a placeholder? If you replace your 3DS and upload your back-up content to the new SD card, can you play that content on the new 3DS?

I'm glad you brought up the GBA games being ported to Wii U because this just doesn't make sense to me and really stood out during the Nintendo Direct. I don't understand why Nintendo is neglecting their GBA library. The 3DS is 2 years old already, I think it's time to retire the Ambassador program.

Another thing to look out for at E3 will be GameCube games coming to Wii U VC. Hopefully, Nintendo will merge the Wii U VC and 3DS VC sooner than later.

gundam00 commented on First Impressions: The Legend of Zelda 3DS:

@Trikeboy This game is as 3D as NSMB2 is 3D. Nintendo is releasing three 2D Zelda games for 3DS this year alone. The last 3D Zelda on the 3DS was released two years ago and it was a remake. I wouldn't say Ocarina is the "standard" for Zelda games. I believe every new release should set a new standard for the respective franchise. I don't have a Wii U, but wouldn't releasing a 3D Zelda on the 3DS make more sense? All of that aside, at the end of the day, we're all stuck with what Nintendo wants to release and stuck enjoying those releases otherwise there won't be anything to play.

gundam00 commented on First Impressions: The Legend of Zelda 3DS:

I agree with @Peach64 's comments. My impression so far is this Zelda falls into the New Super Mario Bros category, where everything is recycled thru improved graphics. I understand that Zelda is rehashment after rehashment with only one key feature being changed which the respective game's title alludes to. Nintendo isn't really creating anything "new" with Zelda. Zelda is stuck in refinement mode.

For a lot of fans, Ocarina 3D was a tease for what a possible Zelda game could offer on the 3DS, and were hoping Ocarina 3D was going to lay the foundation for the 3DS Zelda exclusive. Many of those fans were also hoping Majora's Mask would be remastered to carry the torch towards the official 3DS Zelda exclusive.

However, due to the success of Link's Awakening in the eShop, Nintendo is remastering the top-down Zelda instead, along with releasing Oracles Ages/Seasons in the eShop. So for 2013, Nintendo is releasing three top-down view Zelda games, with no true 3D world successor or even a 3D remaster for the past two years.

You'd think Nintendo would try to find a balance between 2D and 3D releases, so fans aren't getting a lump sum of 2D games for the year.

This isn't an attack on "New" Legend of Zelda. I'm merely pointing out why some Zelda fans are upset this isn't the 3D successor we've been hoping for, while asking Nintendo to offer more diversity in their releases, such as balancing 2D x 3D releases, and expand their franchises' formulas that will actually offer a "new" experience and a "new" take on the series.

gundam00 commented on New Legend Of Zelda Title Confirmed For Ninten...:

Such a bummer! This looks entirely like Link's Awakening but with better graphics. I was hoping for a Zelda game that would push the barriers of what the 3DS is capable of. If this is releasing in the fall, then there's no hope MM will be remastered. The overtly top-down perspective doesn't work with these graphics, I wish it was angled a bit more.

This is not the Zelda I was hoping for. This is a remastered Link's Awakening. WTH Nintendo!!

I actually just bought Planet Crashers in the 3DS eShop because it's on sale for $4.99. I wanted to buy the new Dillon's Wild West game, but I will wait for it to go on sale. Where is the consumer sense in pricing a game at $10.99? If it would've have been priced at $9.99, I would have been more inclined to an impulse buy. But paying over $10 for an eShop app game is cause for hesitation with me.

@DreaddJester Now if they'd only add in the ability to reply to replies. That's the only thing I ever found lacking in Swapnote. Hate the one post and done way it works now.

THIS to the 10th Power!!! It's so annoying that I can't reply to a reply. In most instances, the reply to the reply I would be sending will only take up one sheet. I would like to see the sheet structured like this:

1st Note = 4 sheets > 1st Reply = 2 Sheets > 2nd Reply = 1 sheet

For me, the ability to reply to a reply would "close out" that conversation, rather than having to send a new note just for a sentence or closing statement.

Also, I would like to see SwapNote built into the OS, so I don't have to close out of Luigi's Mansion just to answer a SwapNote.

I was really looking forward to X and Y, but the graphics and art-style look like more suited for the DS. I would like to see a Pokemon game look and play like Monster Hunter. @Minene-uryuu

@gundam00 "no real purpose to grid" actually, since this game is a rogue like, it is purpose full. I'm not even sure how you could play the game without it. It's turn based, and the best way to do a turn based game is through grides. It's like expecting a fire emblem game to not have a grid. You ok? Are you high? Also, how in the hell can you judge a game based on a demo? You barely touched the surface of the game. It's just not intelligent. I played the game all the way through, and I can say that it's deserving of this score: no less no higher.

Along with releasing a turn-based Pokemon game, I would like to see Nintendo release an open-world Pokemon adventure game, where the Pokemon aren't caged to a grid but are free to roam. Nintendo releases free-roam Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and StarFox games, I wish they would do the same with Pokemon.

The purpose of a Demo is to generate sales based on the player's judgement of the Demo. If the Demo does not generate a sale, then the Demo failed its purpose. This Demo in particular SAVES your progression and transfers it to the purchased game, so the Demo is part of the actual game. If disliking a game based on its Demo is unintelligent, then so is liking a game based on its Demo.

I am happy that you and others have enjoyed the game, but you shouldn't respond immaturely to someone who disagrees with your opinion, you're more intelligent than that.

gundam00 commented on Review: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Inf...:

I played the demo and it was too long-winded. The dialogue was a novel of gibberish and you can only read two or three lines of text at a time, so expect to be reading for awhile. And there was no free-roam, the grid-system serves no purpose. I don't know why Nintendo refuses to release a proper Pokemon avatar game with an open-world free-roam adventure game. It seems like Nintendo doesn't want the Pokemon filler-games to compete with the main series, so they release a bunch of fluff. Overall, I think this game was scored way too high! The highest I would go would be a 6/10 and that's being optimistic.

@LDXD Thank you for responding. gundam00 commented on New Research Claims Wii U Success Hinges On A ...:

@LDXD

why do you think games have dlc? Why do you think games now are starting to implement micro transactions?

To increase and continue their profits. However, the applications that could be sold as DLC on consoles, such as Miiverse, TVii, and Maps are released for free.

Why are most AAA titles 12 hrs and under?

Because game development takes longer to accommodate the higher resolution and frame-rates. Does that mean consoles should cut back on development too?

gundam00 commented on New Research Claims Wii U Success Hinges On A ...:

I can't take these analysts seriously when discussing the future of the industry because they never address the big elephant in the room - the cost of video games.
Why is the industry upset about a console costing $350, but ignore a video game costing $60? Why do they not address both console pricing AND game pricing? Consoles require hardware to be manufactured and an operating system to be developed. Games are just software.

Personally, I would love to get a Wii U! I think the pricing is very affordable and way cheaper than any smartphone or tablet. The reason I haven't bought a Wii U is because the games cost too much! Add on a couple games to my Wii U purchase and I'm spending $500! Add on a couple more games and my "hobby" is climbing to $1,000! I just don't have $1,000 to invest in a hobby that isn't giving me a financial return.

Another argument the analysts ignore is all the DLC! Consoles DO NOT have DLC. Nintendo has never charged for a system update or for MiiVerse or for TVii. None of the applications Nintendo adds to the console is charged to the customer. However, video games charge you when they add content to a game you already bought. Why are the free Wii U upgrades overlooked, but a video games DLC fees are accepted?

This entire argument by "industry analysts" that the Wii U console is overpriced, is nothing but a double-standard because their complaints never address the cost of video games. They give the excuse, "well it takes a lot of money to make a video game so that justifies the cost". While console development that requires hardware AND software AND ongoing maintenance, just magically ~ appears ~.

gundam00 commented on Nintendo Spells Out Why You Should Pick Wii U ...:

I think the problem with marketing the Wii U is that it appears to be back-tracking. The Wii introduced motion-control which won the public over, but now the Wii U is going back to a gamepad instead of advancing motion-control to the next level as the Microsoft Kinect is trying to do.

During a scene in the movie "Tropic Thunder", Matthew McConaughey's character is jumping around playing tennis with a Wii Remote. That scene would not have worked with Matthew McConaughey sitting on the couch staring at the Wii U gamepad, which exemplifies a stark contrast between the two consoles: the Wii was fun, upbeat, and a pop culture phenomenon, whereas with the Wii U we're back to isolating on the couch.

Also, the Wii was heralded for adapting well to senior citizens. However, I think that demographic would have a difficult time playing the Wii U and struggle with content being shown on two screens.

gundam00 commented on Fez Creator Believes Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate...:

@nerdstick Well it is the first glasses-free screen on the market, which required a lot of innovation because it hasn't been done before. The 3D-effect on the 3DS cannot function as an update to the existing DS line because the 3D-effect requires additional hardware. Also the 3DS is still considered part of the DS line, just as the DSi and XLs are, making it an evolution in the DS line — not a competing line as the Gameboy Advance and DS were.

@theblackdragon Andy Green better buy you a drink for posting this article ;)

gundam00 commented on Fez Creator Believes Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate...:

I agree with him on some points. I agree the 3DS needs a second Circle Pad, not a clunky add-on. I agree the two screens should be the same size.

He didn't say this, but I might as well throw it in - the aliasing on the 3DS graphics is becoming more and more noticeable, and programming the graphics to a higher dpi would be an easy fix.

I disagree that 3D is a gimmick. I actually prefer 3D gaming since getting a 3DS. When done right, as in 3DLand, Mario Kart 7, and Castlevania, the 3D is an entirely new breath-taking experience, that I hope Nintendo will continue on future handheld devices.

I also disagree on the the second screen being a gimmick. Here's a quick test: play "Zelda: Link's Awakening" on the 3DS Virtual Console, and tell me you aren't pulling your hair out over having to constantly pause the game to change weapons. Then go play "Zelda: Ocarina of Time" and enjoy having a second screen.

I understand everyone's sentiments. I wish Nintendo would open up the Mii Plaza games to include the SpotPass players you get. The only thing you can do with the SpotPass players is transfer them to Mii Maker, so they show up as background characters in Mario Kart 7. Keep in mind, the transfer to Mii Maker is one-way only. Once you transfer them to Mii Maker, you can never send the Mii back to the Plaza. AND, the transfer out is deducted from your Plaza count.

Since I work from home and don't have much free time for socializing, I rarely get StreetPasses. The last StreetPass I got was about 3 months ago. Whenever I go out, I always take my 3DS with me, but I rarely get a StreetPass, and I live in a moderate-sized city. For me, the StreetPass feature is depressing.
