Gitaroo_Dude commented on First Details Of Riverman Media's Next Game:

I really enjoyed Madstone; the multiplayer mode was especially satisfying.

This sounds a lot more interesting though based on the initial concept. Definitely going to get this too unless it gets universally panned.

I'll be downloading this later today after my last midterm.

I had the privilege of testing it, and while I think Episode 2 has a better story overall, Ep. 3 has the better "Whoa, that's awesome scenes." Especially Homestar's musical number and re-creating the album cover.

Wow, this is just getting crazy now.

Way too many good games coming out too fast.

Tetris Party is likely to come out soon too since the preview is up now, and so is Strong Bad 3.

But congrats to 2D Boy. Showing the world that passion and ambition trumps money and large teams when it comes to making games.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (8th Oct):

@ Corbie

Just curious, will the Wiiware version be identical to the PC outside of control setup and the differences with the British version?

Eurogamer's review was dripping with enthusiasm and praise for the PC version, so I really hope the Wiiware one is on the same level.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (8th Oct):

Pretty solid list. Though I wish Strong Bad 2 could have held on longer like the first episode.

And I really hope Madstone eventually breaks into the Top 20. Definitely deserves to be there for at least a week.

Gah, I'm getting flooded with too many WiiWare releases.

Strong Bad 2, then Mega Man 9, then Madstones, World of Goo, Strong Bad 3.... and I still want Bomberman too.

And then there's Animales down the line along with Space Invaders Get Even. Damn.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on Review: MadStone (WiiWare):

Just downloaded this and finished an hour session, and I have to say I'm really enjoying it so far. It's an awesome game.

The frantic pace does remind me a lot of Meteos in a good way; the game moves so fast that you never really have a chance to relax or fall off your guard. I think it's the shaking mechanic that really kind of gives it that visceral, for lack of a better term, feel to it that makes it so fast-paced. You're constantly trying to set up bigger combos to set up a larger quake bar, which in turn lets you use the shake powerup for a longer duration. And it never comes across as too shallow since your so tied to the screen.

Really looking forward to playing with my roommates later, because I think this game is really going to shine in multiplayer, again, much like Meteos.

And I love the aesthetics as well. The soundtrack and graphics really fit the game well.

Definitely worth the 800 points imo if you prefer a more hectic puzzle game to the slower and more relaxing paced ones.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on Review: MadStone (WiiWare):

Wow, that was pretty fast.

Glad this finally came out though. Between this, Corbie's impressions along with the alternate IGN opinion from Daemeon, I think I'll pick this up. 3 reviewers have enjoyed it so far while 1 hasn't. Sounds like the kind of puzzle game I'm looking for: competitive multiplayer with a fast pace like Meteos. This and Pokemon Puzzle League should satiate whatever need I have for puzzle games from now on.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on USA WiiWare Update: Midnight Bowling And MadStone:

Jacob seems like a stand-up guys, taking criticism well while still promoting his game in a humble fashion.

I think I'll pick up Madstone later this week. Both Corbie and Daemon from IGN seem to enjoy it, and Daemon is one of the most critical reviewers out there (Helix got 4.0d). Frantic stuff like Madstone and Meteos is right up my alley.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on Confusion Reigns over Mega Man 9 Sales:

@ Peznaze

Except all 3 versions were released at different times, so VCchartz's info couldn't take that into account.

I have no doubt that MM9 will eventually pass 140k, but I'll wait for an official confirmation. Bionic Commando Rearmed only did like 100k on the two systems with active online communities.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on Confusion Reigns over Mega Man 9 Sales:

140,000 is PROBABLY too high.

I say that because downloadable games still are not as big as retail releases by any stretch of the imagination.

And let's not forget how easily new games can climb up the Wiiware popular games chart either, which is a sign imo that not many of the games on the service sell THAT well.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on MadStone Coming To WiiWare On Monday:

Was checking out the site for the developer, and I thought it was pretty cool how it's comprised of two brothers who went into the game business.

I really wish Nintendo had spaced out the Wiiware releases a little better. MM9, World of Goo, the Strong Bad series, Bomberman, Orbient... so much stuff in such a short time.

That said, I need a good Wiiware puzzler that isn't Tetris, so it's either this or Groovin' Blocks.

Actually, I just noticed that they listed Meteos and Tetris Attack as the inspirations for Madstone.

Definitely leaning towards this game now.

Bought this on an impulse back when it came out in July because it reminded me of Clay Fighter (Don't judge!).

Decent title, just too bad that no one played it online after the first week, and the leaderboards don't seem to work.

Well, looks like Maka turned tail once more people came out to say how bad Plattchen is. Probably just another BPlus plant.

BTW, I don't see reader reviews as insulting. I just see them as a 2nd opinion, which is nice. Better to have an environment that encourages multiple viewpoints imo.

I'm kinda surprised this Episode didn't warrant an 8.

The humor is much better than Episode 1. More focused on an actual scenario than the last one's random humor, and more spot on imo. What's not to love about Bleak House?

Taking into account that a 9 or 10 should be saved for episodes that actually take the mechanics and go above and beyond what the last two episodes have offered.

Ah, and I was going to insinuate that you had insider information. :(

That, or you were another tester at Telltale's office.

And I shall be downloading this at the first opportunity. Really enjoyed Ep. 1, and can't wait for more. Not to mention this one has a much better premise.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on Strong Bad Episode 2 Out This Monday:

@ Stratos

I kinda doubt it. Nintendo's been pretty shrewd lately in terms of how they treat their longtime fans.

They'll probably wager that only a few thousand of us even pay attention to these kind of press releases, so another VCgate wouldn't have an impact on the people who've been buying the Wii.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on Strong Bad Episode 2 Out This Monday:

Awesome news.

This means Nintendo will probably allow Telltale to meet their promise of monthly episode releases.

Crossing my fingers this isn't a repeat of the Mega Man/Ys/SS2 fiasco.

@ Tony

Sorry, just had to comment on something I found hilarious.

Are you implying that Conan does NOT come across as homo-erotic, but Cho Aniki does?

I guess I missed the memo on how some naked buff guys are the epitome of straight, while others should set off my gaydar.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on Potpourri Coming To US WiiWare Next Monday!:

Damn.

I was really hoping Strong Badia would come out on Monday so I could play the episode before I head down for college.

Looks like I'll be taking my Wii down there.

But seriously, what's with this recent deluge of puzzle games?

Gitaroo_Dude

Gitaroo_Dude commented on USA VC Releases: Cho Aniki and Final Soldier:

@ Mr. Cheez

"Why Cho Aniki?"

Probably because Nintendo wants to gauge the interest of American gamers in quirky Japanese titles.

Dare I hope that it's a test for whether they'll localize Captain Rainbow, GOTY?

And my comment wasn't made to infer no one on here has a social life. Just that I find it hilarious how many young people think they'll damage relationships over a game that's obviously meant to be crazy.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on USA VC Releases: Cho Aniki and Final Soldier:

Man, I REALLY wish Nintendo would allow people to add WiiPoints in increments smaller than $10.

I have 800 Wii points, and really don't feel like adding $10 more to get Cho Aniki.

I need to get my homo-eroticism on. :(

Gitaroo_Dude commented on USA VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Clu Clu Land:

Don't worry Wiil, you're not alone.

My friends and I got together at one of their dorms the night it came out to play it.

We pretty much played 4 rounds before we turned it off and they went back to Melee/original and I just went back to playing my DS.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on USA VC Releases: Super Mario RPG and Clu Clu Land:

@ Rexy

That's a totally asinine philosophy.

I don't want a video game company to take some paternal attitude towards my gaming habits. That is to say, they shouldn't make RPGs such rare releases in the hopes that we take our time to consume each release.

Let us decide how we play them.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on TurboGrafx-16 Releases - September:

I'll be downloading Cho Aniki simply to support bringing over more bizarre Japanese titles.

And like someone else said, I'm not a hardcore shooter fan, so reviews can't dissuade me. This and Star Parodier are the only ones I have any interest in (sorry, Lords of Thunder).

This is awesome news.

Mario Golf for the N64 is the only game my dad would ever play back when I was younger. I have a lot of fond memories playing it with him and my younger brother too.

Looking forward to getting it when it comes to the U.S. and playing it during holiday visits.

Gitaroo_Dude commented on USA VC Releases: Ys Book I & II and Samurai Sh...:

@ J.K.
I understand where you're coming from, but complaining about whiners isn't terribly productive either. As long as Nintendo holds back on their huge catalogue of classics, people will whine for whichever game they want.

That said, I've seen plenty of people here praise Ys. I'm glad I got the chance to play it. The music is incredible (it holds up so remarkably well, probably one of the Top 3 gaming soundtracks), the combat is more addictive then it has any right to be (who'd imagine running into enemies would be compelling?) and the atmosphere is simply epic.

Not only that, but Ys broke into the Top 20 Popular VC games. That is a HUGE victory for hardcore VC fans who want to see more rare and obscure classics released over major Nintendo titles everyone has played. When was the last time a TurboGrafx game even broke into the Top 20? This is great news, up there with Pong Toss getting knocked down from #1 to #6.

Let the whiners have their pulpit. Those of us who know the score can enjoy the stuff that the VC is offering, like sweet, lovely Ys.

Honestly, I really can't imagine that SUperMario is serious.

According to his logic, the Virtual Boy was not a mistake. Connectivity achieved Nintendo's goals. Their decision to keep carts on the N64 did not cost them 3rd party support for generations.

Yeah, Nintendo can do NO wrong.
