Sorry. One of my fave genres, rpg's is no longer supported by Nintendo in the NA market. I am NOT smiling. I anticipate this policy to continue with the release of the Wii-U in said market. Nope, not smiling at all.

@Henmii: Yeah, I know. Which is why THIS "announcement' doesn't mean a damn thing. We're talking a nonexistant game, on nonexistant hardware, as opposed to something that DID exist in reality and then was cancelled for cannibalization for a game being relased on other platforms.

Colour me unimpressed.

In other words, I'll believe this wee dollop of slop when I see AND play it.

Gery commented on Sorry, Looks Like Netflix Isn't Getting 3D Movies:

Netflilx in Canada is a joke. I tried their trial version and shut it down after a couple of weeks. Very poor selection of many genres.

As MegatronD mentioned, had 3D movies been offered, I'd seriously consider it but, no need to now; Netflix is a definite no go for THIS consumer.

Gery commented on Irrational Has No Plans for Wii U Games Yet:

@sinalefa:

No, they're going to say it's Nintendo, whose demographic isn't theirs and then ALL the 3rd party developers are going to sit back on the arses waiting for someone else to make a hardcore game; no one will, so they'll all nod their heads sagely and say, "See? We were right. No one of importance is developing for the Wii-U so we made the right decision not to support it either."

Because they don't know what to DO with the hardware, and because it's far easier to keep churning out the same games with various tweaks to the same clamouring masses wanting the same games, with various tweaks ad nauseum. Plus, the controller is stupid, like the Wiimote was stupid, and the Game Cube controller was gay, and the N-64 controller had a stupid AND gay analog joystick and yadda yadda, blah, blah, yadda blah, and so on and so forth.

That, and they have no vision except for more iterations of Bioshock, and Final Fantasy, and Call of Duty, and Tomb Raider, and Halo, and Dragonquest, and Elder Scrolls, and Mass Effect, and Assasians Creed, and Devil May Cry, and Ninja Gaiden, and Ghost Recon, and Fallout and Gears of War, and God of War and War of War between Warring Clans Who Even War Amongst Themselves While They War with other Warring Warriors from Warlike Clans Who War and etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum.

And people kvetch about Nintendo "milking" THEIR IPs... what inane hypocrisy.

Gery commented on EA CEO Loves the Wii U:

I'm siding with Mr St33V on this. Nintendos on IPs are world known and renowned... hardly ANY type of marketing is required other than an announcement that a given Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Smash Brothers/Kirby/what-have-you is on it's way.

I've always felt Nintendo has been a little lax in marketing and promoting 3rd party games... to the point where the 3rd party's don't even try anymore, and can't be bothered with any kind of serious development. When their markets are far more lucrative and established with the competition, why even bother with a third (Nintendo) console when the percieved target demographic isn't being well served by the parent company?

Still, until I see some actual games and game play footage, I've little faith in the 3rd parties.

I'm also quite willing to eat my words and make retractions as necessary. In fact, I hope I'm proven seriously wrong and would quite happily eat crow.

Gery commented on Reggie Discusses Wii U Branding, "Not a Diffic...:

If the Wii-U ain't agonna be handlin' JRPGs in the NA market (and given the current attitude towards that genre here with Nintendo, that's almost a sure bet) Nintendo won't (as it currently isn't) be meeting my gamer needs, HD Mario and Zelda notwithstanding.
