For those saying "hurr it's just the eShop"... Just want to re-iterate how this is not strictly about purchasing digital games. This massively sucks for people who got XL's this Christmas and want to upgrade, but cannot. Why should I have to go on the eShop to do a System Transfer? I pre-ordered the Pokemon 3DS XL's as Christmas gifts for myself and my bf, waited patiently for three months (would've just been mean to rip open mine right away while my bf envied me), and can't even enjoy my shiny new system now.

@Night_Reaper77 I totally agree that it's not fair your kid can't enjoy his/her new Christmas gift yet, but the eShop should be back up in a few days, tops. It sucks, but it seems like it would suck more for you to return it if it's something he/she wanted that badly :( Don't make the kid's Christmas worse by returning his/her gift just because you're a little too proud to wait it out.

So regretting not doing my system transfer to XL on Christmas Eve like I could have. :( And I wanna download Ace Attorney... They should have known this would happen. They should have prepared.

No doubt Pokemon Bank/Transporter is partially responsible as well (came out in Japan yesterday), they've removed it from the eShop in response and now have a TBD release date for NA/EU. This is why an essential component of a game should not be a separate download. I don't even mind paying a measely $5 a year for server fees, but obviously EVERYONE was going to want to download this at once. I'm not sure when Nintendo is going to finally figure out how to do online gaming, but I hope it's soon. If they're going to push digital purchases so hard, they had better be ready to back it up with a working service.

Fillytase commented on Tech Site The Verge Thinks The Wii U's Failure...:

I agree with those saying the Wii U isn't a "failure"--nor is it a "bad idea," imo. I really, really enjoy the console and love having reasons to turn it on... still need more of them, though. 2014 seems like it will be better, maybe. The Wii U isn't doing poorly because it was a "bad idea"--its name is an exercise in brand confusion, they have marketed it poorly, and they've continued to focus so heavily on the 3DS that it is just now, a year into its life, escaping from a games drought.

@NINTENCHIP rofl. You're comparing getting a Pokemon hatched as a different color to having a blatantly unfair advantage over someone in a multiplayer setting.

There is nothing inherently wrong with diminishing the rarity of shiny Pokemon. It doesn't ruin the game for anyone. You like having to spend hours just to get your Pokemon in a slightly different color, with shitty IVs, natures, and abilities, aka completely useless against decent battlers? Cool, then use the Masuda Method, Poke Radar, and chain fishing until the cows come home. The existence of Instacheck doesn't stop you from doing that, and there are plenty of "purists" like you out there to allow a trade economy based around those methods to continue. Take one glance at the shiny Pokemon trading community on tumblr and you'll see what I mean. Some of them used Instacheck, but countless people still got their shinies the "old fashioned" way. As for IVs--you do realize that Destiny Knot makes IV breeding laughably easy for everyone now... not just people with Instacheck? If it's taking you days to get a tri-31 Pokemon when you have the Friend Safari and Destiny Knot available to you, then you're doing it wrong.

Contrast that with taking the vast majority of the competitive aspect out of Pokemon multiplayer by revealing entire teams' movesets and the moves opponents select each turn. No prediction required--know with 100% certainty what your opponent is going to do every turn and have a decently composed team, and you will always win, barring excessive hax.

Ride into the sunset on your high horse, please, and take your false equivalencies with you.

Fillytase commented on Pokémon X & Y Update Mandatory for Online Pla...:

@Kirby_Z There was nothing wrong with the shiny exploit. Shinies have been nothing more than an alternate color scheme since 4th Generation (google "DPPt RNG").

A little disappointed that Instacheck has been rendered unusable, but since it works fundamentally the same as Battle Analyzer, it's an unsurprising consequence of stopping cheaters. I hear that people are working on a new version of Instacheck, and if that ends up working, it means the a-holes who came up with Battle Analyzer will be able to circumvent the patch as well. :(

If Instacheck cannot make it around the patch, then, well, there's always Spinda patterns for determining SVs.

I was so turned off by the pre-show that I didn't even stick around for the actual awards. I've always detested the VGA's, but thought I'd stick around for any juicy reveals, and was once again reminded why it's just not worth it. They started off with painfully bad attempts at humor. In the first few minutes:
"I'M WEARING AN ADULT DIAPER"
"I nicknamed my genitals"
"Wario ISN'T going to have a sex reassignment surgery"
"like the female orgasm, it doesn't exist"

...what are you guys, 12? Because that doesn't pass as comedy otherwise. The questions they were asking Reggie were also appallingly stupid. I peaced out once Reggie's segment was done.

Fillytase commented on Pokémon X & Y Online Battles Vulnerable to "B...:

@RPG_KING No, but knowing what their move is every turn means you WILL win. Winning a Pokemon battle is ALL about prediction, and when you don't even have to predict because some external program makes you all-knowing, then you are clearly going to win. Do you even know how battling against human opponents works?

Fillytase

Fillytase commented on Pokémon X & Y Online Battles Vulnerable to "B...:

@MideonNViscera I agree, I cringe every time people post about this program publicly and even name it. People willing to do whatever it takes to ensure victory will see this post, Google the program, and download it. This helps no one.

Everyone can calm down a little, though. Nintendo has apparently taken down the Rated Battles feature, which is most likely a response to this program. We can expect a patch in the near future, I'm sure. I also know that coders are working on a program to "jam" this one in the mean time. Cheaters aren't the only people who know how to code.

People complaining they aren't bundled--they don't want to tie one version of the game to one color 3DS. What if they bundled Y version with the red 3DS, but I wanted the Y version and the blue 3DS? etc. They could have done a deal where you get x amount off if you buy the game with it, but whatever.

@Rafie Yeah, I'm fully expecting the other consoles to go through a drought, too. That's just what new systems go through. I'm hoping that more people will warm up to the Wii U (or at least that the media won't crap all over it constantly) after they snap back to reality a bit about the other two consoles.

Fillytase commented on Satoru Iwata Cites Poor Basic Wii U Sales To R...:

@Rafie Nah, I should have been clearer I meant that part about the Xbox One at the first gentleman who replied to me. Regardless, shifting the subject to PS3 vs. 360 is equally silly. Fair enough if you just like defending the platforms--I was just thinking today about how I'd rather be a "fanboy" defending a console constantly than someone who relentlessly bashes and complains about a console and wanting a company to go out of business just because their product doesn't appeal to me (cough... everyone on Kotaku).

I appreciate the polite response. I can come off really snarky sometimes, or often. What expenses does the Wii U have? True, I will eventually need a bigger harddrive. There's the pro controller, but I haven't had any issues with the Game Pad so far.

Fillytase commented on Satoru Iwata Cites Poor Basic Wii U Sales To R...:

@Rafie You say that you don't want to talk about it, but I consistently see you talking about it (particularly Xbox vs. PS) more than anyone else on this whole site...

Anyway, the point of my comment wasn't any of that. My point was that it (the PS4) is simply not a cut and dry, obviously or objectively better value than the Wii U after you factor in all of Sony's incremental pricing strategies. For the record, I'm not necessarily saying the PS4 is a bad value (though I have no interest in it). But I also don't see how, after you actually consider ALL of the expenses, it's so much better that the Wii U is in some kind of "dangerous" position. Also, saying "it's better than the Xbox One!" is by no means persuasive or relevant.

Fillytase commented on Satoru Iwata Cites Poor Basic Wii U Sales To R...:

@Hetsumani Re: your question, I had to check my comment again to find out where I even implied that. No, it's not, but it's something to play on your new game console that you bought to play games, at no additional cost. My bf has PS Plus, but none of the free games he mentions are ever interesting imo, and it's crappy that you lose them if you cancel your PS+ sub (from what I understand). XBL Gold's free games stay with you even if you cancel, by contrast. However, the Xbox One has nothing to do with my original comment.

I rely on game news sites for this sort of thing, since I have not one iota of interest in buying a PS4 or Xbox One, and I've not seen any stories about bundles. What are these bundles (honest question)? Also, keep in mind that, like I said, a 1TB external harddrive costs $60-80--roughly twice as much memory as that 500 GB harddrive. So how much of a steal is that 500GB drive?

I'm just saying, I think Sony is trying to make it seem like they're giving you a great deal, when in reality they will probably hit buyers with their usual "hidden costs."

Fillytase

Fillytase commented on Satoru Iwata Cites Poor Basic Wii U Sales To R...:

I don't think a price drop alone is going to do much for the Wii U. I don't really think it needs one. People have compared it to the PS4 price point, but lots of them forget that you have to tack on an extra $50-60 a year for the PS4 if you want to play online. Also, I don't think Sony has announced any bundles or game pack-ins. And, in all likelihood there will be two models at launch, meaning $400 will be their "basic" model price, and their other will cost more. Finally, Sony is kind of known for incremental pricing (proprietary memory cards for Vita, no HDMI cable for PS3, etc.), so if anything, $400 is just the bare minimum price.

Still, the Basic isn't a very good deal to begin with. That's why it isn't selling well imo. I've read people saying they bought the Basic and then got a TB harddrive for it for about $360-380 USD, which is smart, but most people aren't going to think to do that. The Deluxe at the price of what the Basic is now would be a much better deal, naturally. So I think for Iwata to compare the two scenarios isn't totally correct... then again, what do I know?

Fillytase commented on Talking Point: The Wonderful 101 Direct and De...:

@mercurio2054 I agree with this. Does the "hardcore" that Nintendo supposedly needs to recapture really watch TV that much? Internet marketing seems far more important.

I agree with the comments that W101 won't sell all that well because Platinum doesn't have the level of recognition among gamers that Nintendo has, nor is the game a gritty/gory shooter. Bayonetta didn't even sell that well I believe, but I think W101 will do worse because it doesn't have the "sexy" factor.

That said, I found the Direct and trailer fantastic. I was already interested, but yesterday's showing really sold me on a day one purchase (or a day two birthday request... :P).

@DaveGX Uh, no... those two scenarios are not analogous, at all. Cameo appearances from third-party characters (Snake and Mega Man) =/= a game exclusively owned by one console manufacturer appearing on other consoles.

A sensible analogy would be the one many here have already brought up: why does no one ask for Uncharted to be on the Wii U or Xbox One, or for Halo to be on the Wii U or PS4?

Fillytase commented on Iwata: No Chance Of Nintendo's "Precious Resou...:

@Nintenjoe64 Totally agree with you about an industry crash being inevitable. So-called "AAA" games have become way too expensive to make on PS3--let alone what it will cost on the Xbox One and PS4.

Agree with many others that Nintendo hardware is half the experience of playing a Nintendo game, and it would be truly sad to see them stop making hardware (which they most certainly would if their games went multiplatform). They're the only console manufacturer that understands how to create engaging gameplay, imo. Ugh, how boring Zelda would become if it was on the Xbox and PS... :

Fillytase commented on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies ...:

@Bass_X0 You're forgetting the "fourth option": release it digitally with a LIMITED cartridge release, which should hardly cost them anything considering the money they make from milking Resident Evil and Street Fighter. They're a world-class publisher and they can't even afford that? Yeah, I call BS. It worked for Fire Emblem, and it can work here, too. They just want to kill off Ace Attorney and then conveniently blame the fans instead of themselves for not giving it the attention it deserves. It's basically par for the course for Capcom.

Sourcing IGN... -_- They're worse than Kotaku. They rely on trendy, sensationalist articles to get hits and often run those same stories over and over again, demonstrate blatant bias toward Sony products despite touting themselves as a "multiplatform site," and write horrible reviews. Whenever I'd see a post by them I'd feel like the site thinks their readership is about 5 years old. Oh, and the community is disgustingly bad.

@Zombie_Barioth Fair points about MH3U and Smash Bros., but for me personally, those are not games I'm remotely interested in playing on the 3DS. I tend to think most twitchy action games suck on handhelds, and will always go for a console version if it's an option. Not sure how many others agree with me on that, but the Wii U could have an advantage there.

Fillytase

Fillytase commented on Mario & Luigi Has a Dreamy Japanese Chart Debu...:

@Sony_70 The thing you have to remember is that the PS3's library is incredibly bigger than the Wii U's, for about the same price. That's simply the conundrum all new consoles face close to launch. The PS3 just hit its stride with a steady stream of good exclusives a year or two ago. So in that right, it is an accomplishment--one offset somewhat, however, by the fact that many people already have PS3's by now.

"Protect their IP" from what? Free and hassle-free advertising from the single biggest fighting game tournament event? Okay then, NoA... I don't even care about the "flip flopping" aspect (after all, that could, as others have said, have been a matter of them speaking to the wrong people at first)--there's just no good reason I can see for them to want to shut it down in the first place. Maybe this has to do with Sakurai wanting Smash Bros. to return to being "casual-friendly" instead of seeming "hardcore," but "casual" players aren't exactly going to be tuning into EVO or even know what that is. -_-

Fillytase commented on Rumour: Mario Kart 8 Coming To Wii U in April:

Mario Kart may be getting a little played out for my personal tastes. Mario Kart 7 almost improved MK online drastically with the custom communities and the ability to join random races, but it was still super laggy, and there was still the issue where there were no bots to fill races with friends. Meaning I was playing with only one or two friends and no bots, which is boring as sin. 12 racers = way more chaos = way more fun. Maybe this will be the one where they finally get the online just right, but otherwise, I may skip it.

@Zombie_Barioth Yeah I feel bad that I was that snarky before. I didn't suggest every Nintendo fan has to like Mario--or are you saying that Nintendo thinks that? I'm pretty sure they know what the fans want, but like I said, they're simply putting that off until next year or later, so they can focus on the bigger market ("casuals") now. I understand the idea that Mario is overexposed, but I wouldn't say that there are "too many Mario games" this year (which is what the article asked), as least to the extent where "Mario game" is assumed to mean "traditional Mario 2D or 3D platformer." Because I don't think of, say, the Mario & Luigi series, Mario Kart or Paper Mario when I think "Mario game." Like I said before, I think a lot of people confuse "too many Mario games" with "too many games with Mario on the cover." And while it's mildly annoying seeing him all over the place, is it actually a serious industry problem? I'd say no, there are much bigger things to worry about. :P

Fillytase commented on Nintendo Defends Influx of New Mario Titles:

yeah, brand overload for sure XD I feel bad, my previous comments came off rather harsh. I totally agree that Mario is a little... over-exposed right now. And I have no enthusiasm for Mario 3D World now that I know it has no online (friends all live in different states). But I also can see why Nintendo is doing what it's doing, and don't think one new Mario platformer game this holiday season is going to kill anybody. They have a lot more in their holiday line-up besides Mario, but because of brand overexposure I guess a lot of people don't quite realize that.

@Doma "Constantly"? lmao. They've released one Mario title with one on the way, and a DLC. A yearly Mario release is not the norm for Nintendo; they'd have spaced Mario 3D World out from NSMBU if they didn't badly need to sell consoles right now... unlike EA and their sports games or Activision and COD.

As for the "games variety" comment, please remove your blinders and see my reply to Zombie_Barioth. I have no interest in Mario platformers or even Mario Kart really, yet magically, I've found quite a bit to be excited about on the Wii U. No variety my donkey.

@Zombie_Barioth "What about people who gasp don't like Mario?" You mean people like me? Well, let's see my Christmas/Birthday list: Pikmin 3, DKC:TF, Game & Wario, Rayman Legends, Watch Dogs, The Wonderful 101. Other games coming out for it by the end of the year: Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut, Sonic: Lost World, Wind Waker HD. Great games coming out for it in 2014: Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Bayonetta 2, X and possibly Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem. Great games already out for it: Just Dance 4, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, ZombiU, Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Lego City Undercover, Need for Speed Most Wanted U, Resident Evil: Revelations. But wait, there's more! TONS of indie games on the horizon for the eShop.

I don't like Mario, but I'm not complaining.

Mario is not "all" the Wii U has, not by a long shot. Not in the past, present, or future. People like you have tunnel vision and get your panties twisted the nanosecond Mario shows his Italian mug because you're butthurt Nintendo isn't showing a little love to your favorite franchises. I get it, I'd love to see a new Star Fox, but I'm capable of accepting that Nintendo simply has bigger fish to fry this year. They JUST went on public record stating that they're restructuring so that their studios can take on more projects at once. To say that the system is "just Mario" and to imply Nintendo still isn't doing enough is ridiculous.

Mario Kart is really played out though, not sure I'll get that one.

Fillytase commented on Nintendo Defends Influx of New Mario Titles:

Get real, people. If you want the Wii U to do well enough to keep having games made for it, then Mario is exactly what the doctor ordered to get those sales up. Metroid, Star Fox and F-Zero don't sell consoles like Mario, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. do.

That said, I don't know much about the NSMB franchise, but as a potential consumer, I see no obvious differences between the U version and older versions except HD and off-TV play. Yes, Luigi U is harder than NSMBU, but is it actually fundamentally "new"? Like I said, I think they really need to get Mario out soon to push console sales, but I'm just saying the "well, we believe they're new IPs" comment is rather silly...
