Re: S&S All-Stars Racing: NiGHTS Not Playable? Rare Merch. to Burn?

DreamWatcher

Ah, so no cameo in Sonic Unleashed or Sonic '06? Personally, I would have expected to see something in either game referencing to the jester.
The Saturn was a poor seller. I think that Christmas NiGHTS was packaged with the system back then around the holidays (saw an old Japanese commercial advertising it). That's where I got the assumption that NiGHTS helped the Saturn in some way, even if the system was a flop. NiGHTS was something special and it's one of the more memorable games from the Saturn because of the game had.
From polygons to textures to create an active IP. If NiGHTS isn't in ASR, it will be just the beginning of saying "NiGHT Over" for good. I'm actually more concerned of the fanbase's future at this point if NiGHTS ends up inactive. The possibilities are varied, depending on what each person will do: leave, lurk sometimes, or stay. Hopefully, most will opt for the latter. It's still a forum with other things to talk about besides NiGHTS, so perhaps the community will manage to stay together... It's not out of the realm of possibilities after all.

Re: S&S All-Stars Racing: NiGHTS Not Playable? Rare Merch. to Burn?

DreamWatcher

It's not a boycott. TRiPPY and DiGi truly believe that NiGHTS is not in All-Stars Racing. Neither can cite a source since it would most likely cost someone's job. They would not place this kind of bet on the table unless they were 100% sure of themselves on their information - and they are. DiGi and TRiPPY would not take this stand if the info they had was not reliable, and considering DiGi's connections, it's most likely as reliable as you can get. The entire bet is to attract attention as to how serious he is about NiGHTS being absent from roll call.
And this isn't just "oh, they're burning things in the name of a purple jester." It's the fact that there have been less cameos of NiGHTS ever since JoD (which didn't have a lot of money and resources invested in it in the first place) and if we keep seeing less and less of him/her it's only a matter of time before NiGHTS' IP becomes inactive. Sure, it's fun trying to find NiGHTS in a Sonic game (or a SEGA game in general if there's a chance of him/her appearing), but for the life of me I can't recall seeing that androgynous jester past the game Shadow the Hedgehog (haven't bought any Sonic games in years so I may have missed something from '06 and beyond). This is one heck of a dedicated fanbase which had to survive off glimpses of a character for a decade before a sequel was released. Shenmue and NiGHTS Into Dreams... had different appeals, but NiGHTS was a wonder on the Sega Saturn and boosted sales. Shenmue, on the other hand, did not do the same for the Dreamcast. Sure, both were great in their own ways, but NiGHTS won the cameos because of what the game did back in the day. Now though, with the failure of JoD, they might just shut NiGHTS out. Why keep a character around that doesn't boost sales anymore?
Oh, but NiGHTS does boost sales doesn't he? He's fully expected to be in ASR by most. That's a point the campaign "Don't Forget NiGHTS" is proving. It doesn't matter what side of it you take, you're helping the campaign. Trust the admins of NiDcom and believe NiGHTS isn't in? Spread the word and grab attention. Think it's all ridiculous and believe NiGHTS is already in? You prove NiGHTS still matters.
Whatever views one may have on this, one can't doubt that the release date is going to be highly anticipated for more than one reason next year.

Re: Wii firmware Update 4.3 Ideas!!!

DreamWatcher

Agreed that the graphics on SMRPG need some tuning, but I'm still wondering about what happened to Star Fox 64 on my end (Bolse, 200-plus hits, needed only 150, no medal).

The next update better not brick Wiis. That's all I hope for. Sheesh man, I'm scared my own system will brick if I update. (It's not modded and I've had it since the UPS trucks delivered Wiis to WalMart a few at a time.)

Re: What does your signature mean?

DreamWatcher

Back in 1998, I was too afraid to start brand new games because I didn't know if something would kill me right away or not. (Hey, I was a kid alright?) So instead of playing (thank goodness because the ReDeads scared me), I watched my mother play Zelda: Ocarina of Time and time and time again I said that which is in my sig.

Sometimes I could say the entire line (Look before you leap), but not too often. Falling off Death Mountain, Dodongo's Cavern heights (spike traps), the Great Deku Tree (uh...miss hitting the web), and some other things. Stopped after awhile because she did finally look before she leapt, especially in the Shadow Temple. ^^; This is the same person who ran up to a zombie in Resident Evil thinking it was a survivor. XD (Instant "You Are Dead" screen... Sorry mum. ^^;) But we're cool on it. Afterall, it's gaming. It's meant to being people together. : D (Except in fighting games when families are torn apart and Wii remotes go flying through televisions.)

Re: How many pages of VC game do you have?

DreamWatcher

About a page and a fourth on my SD card. I'm happy with all but one (Kirby 64). Besides, I'm saving my points for some good games on my list. I don't want crud on my SD card and system (a bit too late, but no more!).

Re: How Do People Speed Run Games?!?

DreamWatcher

To answer the question, people speed run by doing just about any trick they can, exploiting the heck out of glitches mostly. Often times in games like Majora's Mask, glitches are used to get to items quicker and the dungeons/places are usually done out of order (ex. part Woodfall, Snowhead, Pirate's Fortress, finish Woodfall, etc.).

I don't really do speed runs, but I like to try getting 100% of items/sub quests/etc. before the final boss. As well, I like to try out glitches (beat OoT Ganon with Deku Nuts and a swing from the Master Sword before he fell for the final button press : P). In all, I'm a perfectionist, not a speed runner. ^^

Re: (WiiWare) Games that you regretted buying

DreamWatcher

I only have two WiiWare titles: World of Goo and LIT. I have to say, I don't regret buying either, although LIT could have had a better ending on Dark Mode. >_< Boy was that hard... So....LIT I only regret buying by about...30 percent. Otherwise, I like the ones I have now. ^^

Re: Legend of Zelda: OT or MM?

DreamWatcher

With the the 3D Zelda games, it depends on what you want. Majora's Mask revolves mostly around side quests while OoT has more dungeons to explore. It's quantity of storyline versus quality of characters (and just about everything else...seriously, first dungeon in MM has a huge lobby and I have a friend who couldn't even reach the last temple in that thing). Although, OoT is where to start if you've never played a Zelda game before. It's the basic Zelda formula with a good deal of dungeons, a great little side quest for one of the best items in the game, and quite a storyline for the time. It may also be mentioned that in some respects, MM is harder (I have a friend who never got to the last dungeon in that one). So try starting out with OoT (imo). Although, you might want to look up some gameplay from the beginning of both games before truly deciding.

[However, as Dezner said, ALttP is also one to try out. It's actually quite nice with plenty of extra things to do. It's closer to OoT with the dungeons and all. Again, look up some gameplay.]

Re: Do you use the "soft save" on VC?

DreamWatcher

I use it for games such as Super Mario Bros. 3 (if you've played this, you know exactly why it's a life saver) and Donkey Kong Country 2 (save at Kong Kollege, yes, but soft saving works if you want to save some coins now and then). It's a nice feature if the game doesn't have a save feature or if that save point is just too far to get to when you need to hurry up and be somewhere.

But seriously, I don't think I could ever see the last world in SMB3 (without flutes) if it were not for the soft saving. I tried the flutes... My years of not playing 2D Mario games has left me rusty in that last world of fire. @[email protected]

Re: Favorite Video Game Theme Song

DreamWatcher

I also have a lot of favorites. I can't pick just one.
"Simple and Clean" - Kingdom Hearts
"Live and Learn" - Sonic Adventure 2
Zelda (Majora's Mask and OoT tie for this)
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest main theme (pirate theme, loved it even as a kid)
Chrono Cross main theme
Banjo-Kazooie main theme (banjos have never been cooler)

Outside of themes, there are just too many musical scores to count...

Re: What would be a good ending to Spongebob?

DreamWatcher

They could do one more movie and just leave it. ...Like they did with the better (imo) show Danny Phantom. Seriously, it had some potential. I would have loved to know what happened after Phantom Planet. (I was a fan before the first episode aired. Yes, I was a DP fangirl. XP)

I'm sorry Corbie, but when I read that, I imagined Gregg talking.

Everyone has their own top 10 list. Mine has mainly N64 titles. ^^ Oh, and as for the Emperor of the World thing. You guys can keep arguing over that. I'll be on Pluto, plotting my take over of the universe. (I should probably get an avatar showing that I'm a female, but I'd rather just have a smiley face staring blankly back at you all.)

Another weird gamer habit is if I'm playing a game like Monster Rancher I give the characters weird little names. I once named a Suezo "Iseeyou". But the weirdest name I have ever created was the name for the main dude on FF9 where I called him "MonkeyBallz".

I think my cousin comes close to this, calling Link in Zelda: Wind Waker "ABC123." Mind you, this was years ago and she 'didn't care.'

Uh huh...yes, just scream your head off about SSB. Re: What's your weird gamer habit?

DreamWatcher

If I'm really enjoying a game, I find myself humming the music to it (either an overworld theme or main title theme). As a kid, I used to make up lyrics to games like Super Mario RPG: LotSS while listening to the intro or while in some town.
If the character falls off a ledge I'm being careful about or an enemy comes outta nowhere and div-bombs said character, I usually mutter something like "Why you little..." and either leave it at that or make up something to it even if it doesn't make sense ("...egg snapper").
As weird as it sounds, I also tend to try and be a 'perfectionist' at living. I'll actually restart a game almost instantly (goodbye hour of progress...) if a character dies in a game that has a death counter or penalties for someone biting the dust. Needless to say, Skies of Arcadia will never have zeros next to everyone's names. : (
Finally, when playing a something like an RTS game I tend to make strategies for everything right off the bat. (Trust me, it gets a bit detailed depending on the game.) Based on these strategies I make (both consciously and subconsciously), I can usually have a level 57 character take down a level 80 enemy. I'm sure others can do better, but that's where I stand.

Re: Block Size Funny?

DreamWatcher

Actually, DKC 1 is 58 blocks and DKC 2 is 96 (for NA at least, not sure if other regions got a couple of more blocks or less). I've double checked and that's what it is. Not so weird when it comes down to these sizes.

Re: video games that should be movies

DreamWatcher

The problem with making a movie out of games like Ocarina of Time and Other M lies in the spoilers. If OoT was made into a movie, everyone would already know how it ends as well as how the adventure goes. Also, for anyone who somehow hasn't played the game, it's ruined for them. For newer games like Other M it would drop sales to make a movie out of it.

The only logical thing to do when making something from game to movie (if it can be a possible success), would be to make up another plot entirely. For instance, bring back Vaati and a mute Navi with a naive child Link unleashing the movie's evil by pure accident. (Hey, he's a kid. Kids make mistakes...and this kid would have to correct it.)

Now, there are games that could, as Adam mentioned, be a Saturday morning cartoon series (we'll never speak of those other series ever again). Heck, even Metroid could be a good cartoon if the right plot (stretched across a season) is used in those 22 minutes of air time.

Personally, I'd want a series or movie on The Legend of Zelda, but that's not going to happen. >>;

That's because it's the only upcomming WiiWare game I want; don't want anything else... for I don't like Cave Story!

Without Icarian, its like not having a single drop of Rum... "WHY IS THE RUM ALWAYS GONE!" (stands up wobbly) "OH, THAT'S WHY!" LOL!

Same as Super Smash Bros 64; which I'm STILL waiting for!

I've had several Wii Points saved for just those 2 game only for quite a few weeks this June... shame they're still not here!

When they do come out eventually, no matter the long wait, (hope it's soon); both will be instant purchases with my last 2000 Wii Points I've been saving for these past few weeks!

Wow Dory, you look different. Is it your hair? Can you still speak whale?

That made me truly LOL! Yes I still do speak whale; very fluently too... mooow!
But now I got a jar of dirt; & I'm pretty happier about it!

Ah, but what is better, a jar of dirt or the box of mystery...or Icarian? : P

Re: If you could Create Your Own WiiWare Game

The Legend of Zelda: The Mask of Miracles
Points: 1500
Genre: Action/Adventure

Set after Ocarina of Time and before Majora's Mask. Navi has left Link so he can enjoy his childhood. She leaves Hyrule via the Lost Woods and winds up in a mysterious land, waking up on a beach. What's more, she can no longer speak but that does not prevent her from changing colors (i.e. warning the hero/heroine of danger, etc.). She bumps into Zelda...no, not Zelda. But the girl sure looks like the princess, just a little...different. (Let's call her 'Z.') For instance, she wants to go on a journey to find the legendary Mask of Miracles. It's true name is unknown, but the tales are still strong. Supposedly, the mask can grant the wearer's wish or desire if their heart is strong enough. She wants fame, glory, all sorts of things to make her well known. Thinking that the mask could help the fairy somehow (even if the mask would be too big for Navi's face), the Zelda look-alike invites Navi to follow her (besides, the fairy could help her survive). Along the way, the two learn that the land is dying due to an evil curse by a being named Vaati who wishes to destroy the four giants of the land across the sea. Apparently, they never paid attention to his deeds before and did not bless the land Navi is in before retreating to their individual temples. Z and Navi make their way to Vaati's lair only to find out Vaati's plan: To reopen the Golden Land with the land's life force and use the energy from that realm to destroy the giants! As well, the Mask of Miracles is in his possession. After a great battle, Z manages to claim the mask and make her wish, contrary to her previous greedy one: To seal the Golden Land shut once more (since it was barely opening, but it has weakened enough so Ganondorf could break out in time for Wind Waker's prelude) and return her land to normal. But, this wish takes all of Z's energy and she is unable to move. She faints as the evil Vaati's lair crumbles to the ground.

Miraculously, Z wakes up on the same beach she had found Navi on. The fairy is no where to be seen and the Mask of Miracles lays beside her. A nearby fisherman mentions that a blue-haired lady in a blue dress had brought her there along with the mask and took a ferry to the land across the sea. The lady could not speak and was exhausted, but she wrote down that she was going to search for someone back home, but she would come back...someday. Z takes the note the lady had written on in one hand and holds the mask in the other. "Navi..." she mutters before peering up to the sun melding with the sea on the horizon. "I'll be waiting... For you and your friend."

[Note: Made this on a whim, so of course it's rough. I could make the plot longer, but I think this'll do.] {Edit: Sorry for the lengthy post.}
