Dogpigfish commented on Rumour: Wii U Sold Less Than 40,000 Units In N...:

They need to convince the fan base that Wii U is something you want in your living room even if you have something else. Wii was successful at doing that and Wii U is positioned to do that. If it had applications like ABC app or other network apps, this would fly off shelves. They need to appeal to women like the Wii did, that's how they crushed Sony in the last gen.

Dogpigfish commented on Talking Point: The Wii U's Identity Crisis:

Sales are primarily a reflection of tax increases in the U.S. and no raises due to health care costs. GDP will be negative this year, so technology isn't all that's hurting. Sony and MS should hold off another year. When the Wii launched, the economy saw its largest growth cycles in history, largest raises and more money to blow. Wii U is a luxury, simple as that.

If you keep rehashing the same games, you begin to compete with yourself. Current gen consoles are powerful enough and most people haven't owned a high def gaming machine for more than a couple years. The libraries already have enough bargain games similar in quality. Developers need to create a 'Starcraft' or 'Mario kart' that spans several years in sales if they hope to survive. Creativity is the only successful model.

I haven't seen anything I didn't like, but heard the reviewer ramble on. Nothing they said made me not want to buy it. Shooters really are usually mindless, not sure what is truly wrong with the product. I recently played some shooters that got horrible reviews, but were pretty decent.

Dogpigfish commented on The Darksiders Series Looks To Be Over:

I've seen contrary news, but they don't need the franchise to thrive. They have a highly talented art style and gameplay model, so the series isn't over. It will just be masked under a different name. Too much talent from this group at crytrek, can't wait to see what they come up with next.

I remember having to decide between motion controls or high definition. Now I don't have to decide. Seeing as this dilemma has now been solved, how does MS or Sony get into living rooms? More ads and selling points for third party will get more development, expect their version of next gen to be loaded with commercials much like television. I think Nintendo will remain the king for this reason.

Dogpigfish commented on EA: Excited About New Generation Which Is "Yet...:

I'm not a customer of EA, so I can't really respond or care about their goals. As far as the generation, it's clear that Wii U brings something new and innovative to the world, which consumers are happy about. Seeing as Nintendo generally sells 10 fold in NA compared to Europe, we'll see a shift with higher taxes in the states and media upheaval of game violence. In my opinion, this will impact the other big 2 more than Nindy, which continues to sell games with a longer replay value.

Dogpigfish commented on So, How Is The Wii U Doing In The UK?:

Taxes have gone up substantially in the states and Americans will be cutting back. Not sure how you predict these downturns when releasing a console. Other issues are 'new normal' finances. Companies are not reaping high profits like they did in 2007. The industry is not the same.

This guy is a great developer, don't get me wrong. The big 3 sees the problem with independent talent, so they misconstrue what indie really is, because it's a threat to their bottom line. Don't let them redefine what indie is. Indie stands for independent developers, not independent studios.

Dogpigfish commented on Developer Interview: Bertil Hörberg On Being ...:

This article gets too many people excited about development, reality is it's very expensive and rigorous. $100 a year for IOS, upwards of $5000 for eshop and no guarantee your app will ever be published. Additionally, you must have a non subleased office, website, trademarks, business telephone and email. None of which is required on other platforms. This isn't indie.

Dogpigfish commented on Review: The Cave (Wii U eShop):

Let me clarify, what does the Wii U version have to offer that the other systems don't? I know Nintendo wants third party adoption and that's all fine and dandy, but I'm not sure as a consumer I want to support development that doesn't leverage what this system has to offer. Is this a straight port?

Can someone re-review this game with an idea about how it looks and plays on the wii u? Maybe tell us about what features it supports and so forth, after all this site is nintendolife. I don't go to this site for the ps3 review. I'm frankly confused.

Dogpigfish commented on Nintendo Launches Wii U Virtual Console Trial ...:

It will be launching in the spring, but we will allow you to access it today, but not an official launch, a pretend launch. We will continue to allow you to download a new game each month until the "official" launch when we say "it's the official launch", but until then make believe launch is now, not a real official launch, just a pretend, pretend its a launch, not really a launch, because it hasn't been officialized yet.

Dogpigfish commented on Resident Evil Revelations Set to Infest Wii U:

This is an excellent game. Have beaten it multiple times on 3ds using circle pad pro. Would be nice on a bigger screen. I'll double dip if the price is right. Note: I've never played a resident evil game, but it feels like Gears of War and you can't go wrong with this gameplay. Additionally, the characters are too tough to ever make you feel vulnerable; so this is more action than horror.

If used companies pay royalties, then developers can keep their people working. Much like music, it needs to have some sort of digital reference so the author can get paid for their creativity. Places like gamestop are stealing from these authors. You're always going to have these big corporate money making developers like Activision, but how do Indies survive on a brick & mortar shelf? The simple answer is they don't, they have to rely on digital because they can't survive in retail. At some point retail games will enter a collectors period where they simply aren't earning money and can be sold used, like a second hand shop. But this is much different than an enterprise based on used sales. Even so, if all games switch to digital you'll see more creative games and new ip's rather than rehashes. Don't confuse indie with corporate, I'm not talking some 30+ person band that builds mutant mudds, I'm talking any creative person or persons who has taken it upon themselves to build a new game like mechcraft on IOS or cave story on PC.

I'm not saying consumers buying used games are stealing. I'm saying companies that sell used games are stealing from developers because they don't pay them royalties and this further drives the price of retail. It's a matter of perspective, but not intended to offend anyone, just my opinion that companies like THQ are directly impacted.
