DkFluttershyGuy commented on Consumers Go Crazy For Wii U Following Xbox On...:

LMAO! Thank you for your EA-like stupidity and greed, Microsoft! As a almost life-long Nintendo fan, it is greatly appreciated. ;) Nintendo should hire Microsoft. Microsoft is doing a better job selling Wii U than Nintendo is. :/

I hope this is a sign that gamers are fed up with the shady practices of this Internet-connected era of gaming. I even read a RUMOR at IGN that the Xbox One could have visual DRM, scanning the room to determine if there are too many people there to be watching a movie, and shut it down if there are! Imagine your family members having to hide behind a chair to watch Iron Man 3! :( I found myself outraged by aspects of the reveal. I'm happy to see that others feel the same, and will vote for Nintendo and high quality, honest gaming with their wallets!

In case I didn't make it clear, there are viruses I'd want to get before I'd get a Xbox One. :P

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Super Mario Bros. 2 Hitting The North American...:

So, how often are we going to get Wii U VC games that aren't already available? Once every few months? The "2" Nintendo should release is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. It would build excitement for their newest VC service to have such a huge title available for the first time on VC! Instead, it's all titles already available, in some cases, on Wii AND 3DS. Oh well (shrugs shoulders).

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Disney Interactive Suffers Financial Loss in Q1:

Maybe they could help turn it around by making the awesome Once Upon a Time game that there's the potential for it to be! It could really set itself apart from Kingdom Hearts by being less cartoony, and much darker! I can't believe there's no OUaT game, here at almost the end of Season 2.

Yeah. I'll just repeat what has already been said here by many: If that happens, I will either find a new hobby, or take up retro-only gaming. Those of you who like touch-gaming, great for you! But, I don't, and I get so sick of the media trying to shove smartphones & tablet gaming down our throats!!!

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Japanese Wii U Virtual Console Launches With 1...:

Following this batch, Japan is getting only 3 Wii U VC games that are already on Wii VC? What does everyone else get? One? :p If it's as slow building up Wii U VC library as I fear, I wonder what percentage of the already-available Wii VC library will be available when Wii U's successor is announced? 30-40%? Remember, when Wii came out, there was a FLOOD of VC games, for months.

DkFluttershyGuy commented on First Impressions: The Legend of Zelda 3DS:

Yesterday was one of the greatest days of my gaming life! ALttP is my favorite Zelda. I hoped for a true sequel one day, but didn't imagine it ever happening. So, this brought happy tears yesterday! I love the merging of old and new here. It's what I imagined a ALttP sequel to be!

One thing: When you already have the map and dungeons from ALttP set in stone, how do you extend it enough to make it feel like a new experience? Unless they extend the world map, I'm not sure how it could feel like anything but a "second quest" remix to ALttP. And I'm assuming this may be the Tower of Hera in the trailer. How do you explain changes to the environment.

Believe me, these aren't necessarily complaints. Just mysteries and concerns. I think the original ALttP world will have to be expanded somehow, though. This is now number 1 on my most wanted list! :)

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Feature: The GamePad - From Waggling Remotes T...:

I love the GamePad, and the possibilities it presents!

Here's the problem, and it's the same problem Nintendo's had with past innovations: Third-parties really don't want to deal with it. I think it's one reason third-parties constantly skip Nintendo systems. When Nintendo has something special like the GamePad, the Wiimote, etc., third-parties feel forced to somehow utilize it in their game. They actually have to use their brains to figure out something new to add, which wouldn't be present on other systems. So, they'd rather just program a regular old game requiring nothing extra, for Sony and Microsoft.

It becomes a situation where about the only games utilizing special Nintendo technology are first-party games. Then, people feel like it was a needless "gimmick", because it's rarely used. So, sadly, it could be said that Nintendo shoots itself in the foot by innovating! That doesn't, however, mean I want them to stop innovating.

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Talking Point: The Downside to Delayed Release...:

The aggravating thing about it is this: When sales for the Wii U version of Rayman Legends are in the crapper, Ubisoft won't place the blame where it should be, on themselves for the lousy treatment of Wii U owners. They'll place the blame on Nintendo, for not moving enough Wii U systems; and gamers because, after all, Nintendo fans only buy first-party titles. Then, they'll say "we told you so", and there'll be another third-party giving token support to Nintendo, if any.

You don't even need a crystal ball to see how this all plays out. Just knowledge of the dynamic between Nintendo and third-parties.

Oh, I may've gotten Legends before the delay, but now I'm saving my limited gaming dollars for Zelda Oracles, and Wind Waker HD. Guess Nintendo gamers do only get first-party titles (eye roll).

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Wii U Sales Double in Japanese Charts Followin...:

Does this mean we can cease with the "Wii U & Nintendo are doomed" talk? I hope this momentum continues in Japan, and some builds here. Until Wii U attach rate picks up, all we're going to read about is "(fill in X game here) NOT coming to Wii U."

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Talking Point: An Open Letter To Nintendo:

There are points I agree with, and points I disagree with. One thing: I don't think Nintendo intentionally lied, as they have no control over fair-weathered 3rd party support, but that promised support has turned out to be untrue. I feel they need to do what it takes to make it true, and get 3rd parties back on board. Something does need to change. It's looking like Wii U could be the least-supported Nintendo console yet.

It REALLY makes Wii U look bad when you look at a list of consoles some games like Battlefield 4 will support. Anyone has to admit that showing a list consisting of half decade-old consoles and unreleased consoles, but not Nintendo's brand-new console, just... looks... bad. With that noteworthy absence, possible Wii U purchasers have to be ask themselves: "Is there something wrong with this system that I don't know about, but game makers do?"

From where I sit, reading news at Nintendo Life everyday, just about the only ones supporting Wii U are Indies, and Nintendo itself. There's the whole, "well, Nintendo gamers just buy its consoles for 1st party titles" thing. But, you can't tell me that it would win many consumers "on the fence" to know that they can get Metal Gear Solid 5 along with their Mario and Zelda! And to me, it's not out of the realm of possibility imagining Nintendo deciding they should just stop making consoles when they have little support from anybody else, and it would be cheaper for them to just put their games on PS4/X720.

So, I believe this 3rd party abandonment of Wii U could have everlasting effects, if not changed.

In the near future, everyone will have an ever-growing knot on top of their head. DkFluttershyGuy commented on Best Buy Employee On A Mission To Save R.O.B.:

This set was the one I originally got my NES with! I have my R.O.B. to the right of my TV, behind my NES. ;)

Sad thing to me about this is the people who took it in for recycling. Some people don't know what they have. Nor do they have emotional attachments to anything. I don't believe in hording, but you can also apply some value to things like this that deserve it.

As for Best Buy, these big corporations are a load of laughs. They have these various "help the community" programs for no reason except helping their public image and attracting customers. If we knew the crooked crap BB and other corporations have pulled behind closed doors, people would riot in the streets and call for heads to roll.

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Capcom Having "Ongoing Discussions About Mega ...:

What is there to discuss? Does Capcom think people would be so upset about all these cancellations and shabby treatment of the Blue Bomber if nobody cared about Mega Man anymore? I'd think that fact alone would prove to them that Mega Man is still a money maker for them. Does Capcom no longer like money?

DkFluttershyGuy commented on All New DuckTales is Coming to Wii U:

This news just blew me away, in a good way! All the feels! My childhood is jumping up and down on the bed, singing the Duck Tales song. ^_^ Duck Tales is one of my prized NES games, and it looks like this has many of the same mechanics!

I didn't know Capcom still had the rights to Disney games! Have to wonder if other Disney Afternoon games will come soon.

We need this (also doubling as my reaction to DT news)... ;)

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara Comi...:

Whoa. This, and Duck Tales, just came out of nowhere! I'm getting this Day One! I love the medieval, "Final Fight-style" Capcom games of the early 90s: King of Dragons, Knights of the Round, and Magic Sword (well, MS isn't FF-style, but still great)! I remember playing one of these in a bowling alley one time, and enjoyed it.

Finally, some HAPPY news from one of my old favorite third parties. Is CAPCOM back? Well, with them TALKING about a new Mega Man game to tease us wounded Blue Bomber fans, maybe not. But, today is a Helluva start down the road to redemption, if you ask me!

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Rumour: Capcom Developing New Strider Title Fo...:

I was hoping for this, as I remember seeing Strider mentioned on that Capcom survey from not long ago.

I've waited for a new Strider since the Strider 1 & 2 pack came out in 2000! Strider has gotten such little respect, they even had the games on the wrong discs (Strider 2 on 1, and vice versa). This was one of the best arcade games of the late 80s (I spent more than a few quarters on it), and I'd love to see the series revived!

Oh, and LOL at bad Genesis boxart "beefcake Strider Hiryu!" LOLWUT?

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Castlevania II: Simon's Quest And Donkey Kong ...:

I personally enjoyed the exploration aspects of CV II, and it's one of my favorite CVs, despite the bad rap it gets. DK 3 brings up memories. I got it on my very first Christmas having the NES!

Those things said, wake me up when there are NEW games available on 3DS VC that haven't already been available for YEARS on Wii VC. :/ I'm STILL effing waiting on Castlevania: Bloodlines!

@DarkBlueEdge
Yeah, that's where I am. You consider the countless games that have never seen the light of day except for their original release, and we're getting previously available NES games (some of which have probably been on Wii VC since the very beginning).

I will be thrilled to celebrate by getting it on Wii U VC, and playing through it for the umpteenth time. :) They just don't make games like they used to. Oh, what I'd do to get my hands on a new 2D 3DS or Wii U Metroid of Super Metroid's caliber!!!

Economy/jobs are in a permanent state of suckage. Not much Nintendo can do about that, except possibly lower the price of Wii U (or give more incentive to purchase the Regular SKU... it's not worth it as is, may as well pay the extra for Deluxe).

I never heard of it. Glad, since it didn't make it. Looks pretty darn sweet for a GBC game. I'd have seriously considered getting it. Said at the site that it would've been a 20-40 HOUR campaign? Whoa.

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Saints Row 4 is Skipping Wii U:

In 2014, Saint's Row 5 is announced. Announced for Xbox 720, PlayStation 4, and PC. Not announced for Wii U. Reason cited: "It's a last-gen console." :P

Third parties will always have some "politically correct" PR reason (so as not to offend Nintendo fanboys/fangirls in case they do make a future release) for not having it on Wii U, just as they did Wii. And, just like with Wii (and before), it's because they dislike Nintendo and/or the console for whatever reason (lack of power compared to other consoles, small user install base, "uncool" perception of "kiddie console", requirement to use special console technology, etc.).

Companies really take people for morons these days. Maybe corporate distrust wouldn't be at the peak it is, if they ever actually told the truth instead of using namby pamby PR-speak.

Let's just tell it like it is, shall we? Nintendo lost third parties forever, whatever they do, as of Nintendo 64 (because they didn't go disc format).

One more thing: DAT PURPLE TOP!!! :O :D

@JogurtTheYogurt

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Mega Man 3 Hitting 3DS Virtual Console Next Week:

I'm happy for anybody who wants this. But, it annoys the Hell out of me on a number of levels.

First, as @3DSLuigi pointed out, what about the other Mega Man Game Boy games that HAVEN'T been released anywhere else yet? There are so many places and ways you can get the NES Mega Mans, but those Game Boy games (I think) only have their original releases on GB. They are not widely available at all. Second, as a couple of you mentioned, Mega Man VI never even made it to Wii VC! There is no consistency at all on Capcom's part (which is no surprise to me, since they've been in "Crapcom" mode). They are just all over the place! Finally, yet another NES game that is already available on Wii VC, when we could be getting a new Game Boy/GBA game! As I mentioned in a prior post, Game Boy/GBC games are better sellers, according to the 3DS VC top 20. So, why the NES obsession? Since, as we know, Nintendo is incapable of releasing more than one VC game a week on a particular system, Mega Man III will be all we get this Thursday. And the weeks the next 3 are released, it'll be the only 3DS VC game for those weeks as well.

Don't get me wrong. I'm always happy for VC support, and Mega Man III is one of the greats! The aforementioned matters still tick me off, however. I'd so much rather see Mega Man II GB, or one of the Zelda Oracles.

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Nintendo Download: 7th March 2013 (North America):

The 3DS VC needs some Game Boy/GBC games again soon (like Zelda Oracles). I don't get this preoccupation lately with only NES titles! Titles which you can already get on Wii VC. Thinking it through, you might think that it's because old GB/GBC games aren't selling as well. Well, you look at the top 20 3DS VC games and 6 of the top 7 games are GB/GBC games (including #1, Link's Awakening DX), and only 7 out of the top 20 are NES games (to 11 for GB, 1 for GBC). That leads me to suspect that many feel as I do, that they'd like to see old handheld games on another handheld, and old console games on a console! I'm happy for 3DS VC support (especially as dry as it's been for Wii VC in the past). I'd just like to see some variety, like GB/GBC games and games that aren't already available somewhere else.

Also... at this rate, Neo-Geo games are at least going to surpass the number of Wii VC SNES games, LOL.

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Feature: Series Reboots That Have Divided Gamers:

Of the games listed, my favorite compared to the original is Kid Icarus: Uprising. I far prefer it to the two other entries in the series (though I guess Myths & Monsters is not canon). Furthermore, it is one of my favorite games of the last ten years (at least), and my game of the year for 2012. The controls take getting used to, but it took little adjustment period for me (not sure if it's having smaller hands, or what). Then, it's a wonderful game from top to bottom. Addictive game play, beautiful graphics, superb music, and truly memorable voice acting/dialogue! It is truly one of the most quote-worthy games out there, and for good reason! And, yet, it only recently broke 1 million sales worldwide, which is a travesty (something far lesser games have accomplish, simply by being better-known franchises).

On the other end of the spectrum, and this may be blasphemy, but Skyward Sword is one of my least favorite Zelda games. I realize the motion controls were a must for this kind of game, but it took away from the enjoyment of it, in comparison to other games in the series. Even that aside, I found a lot wrong with it that kept it from feeling like the masterpieces the last few console Zeldas have been. The dungeons felt like just a handful of VERY BIG rooms, with interconnecting puzzles. I don't guess this is inherently bad. I simply like the room-by-room challenges of past entries. Next, the ground & sky exploration left a lot to be desired, somehow. It felt a lot more constrained and linear, especially considering that exploration is such a trademark of the series. I even prefer Wind Waker's long journeys from point a to point b more enjoyable than the flying segments. I even the music was vastly subpar and strangely un-Zelda-like, a HUGE disappointment (especially from a game that's in a series containing some of the most memorable songs in video game history). The music while flying is the only song I really remember, and even it trails well behind "overworld" themes (if you will) from just the other 3D console Zeldas. It's hard to believe, timeline wise, that one of gaming's greatest franchises began with this game! I'm expecting FAR MORE from Wii U Zelda.

Skyward Sword's lesser sales figures are justified, from where I stand. Still, they're better numbers than Kid Icarus: Uprising, and I wish the numbers were flipped.

Now, while you all gather your torches and pitchforks, excuse me while I make like a tree and get out. ;)

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Review: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror ...:

Was already on the fence about it, and am more so after mixed reviews. So, I'm going to try the demo, and judge for myself.

One question I have (and I don't think it's much of a spoiler, but you can mark it as such if you feel like it): Is there any familiar Castlevania music from the early entries? I was sure hoping, especially, for "Simon's Theme", being that SB is in this (though a Simon Belmont from a different universe than the one we long-time gamers know).

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's Revised Approach to E3:

I think the biggest disadvantage of revealing so much before E3 is what was mentioned in the article: And that is media attention. Unless it's the revelation of a console or handheld, it's not likely that a Nintendo Direct is going to get media attention.

Nintendo definitely gets coverage during E3, however! I remember seeing a story about Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and other Nintendo games on a CNN tech program several years ago. And, before the Internet caught fire, I would follow programs like that around E3, hoping to see Nintendo's reveals (as back then, it was that, wait for a magazine, or call their 900 number to find out...).

So, I think lessened media coverage for big name surprises hurts the Big N in terms of word-of-mouth.

DkFluttershyGuy commented on Talking Point: Nintendo's Revised Approach to E3:

I'm not sure there aren't too many Nintendo Directs pre-E3. There were a few Wii U surprises last year. But, we already had knowledge about most every 3DS game that was mentioned at the Nintendo E3 conference. It was more like a review of upcoming titles. Took a lot of fun & suspense out of E3.

Four console generations later, despite all the advances in technology, the SNES is still my all-time favorite console (and probably will be four generations from now, when we're playing holographic games, or something).
