From what I've read of reactions to Xbox One, there seems to be plenty of disappointment to go around and Microsoft seems to be going down more of the "casual" route, which I find ironic. I think the PS4 will be the bigger rival against Nintendo. We all know Nintendo has some very big games in store. Games are where it should matter, so we'll see.
This Direct was good, not awesome, but that was what I expected. Not every Direct is going to be like a mini E3, so I don't understand how someone could be completely disappointed. It should be obvious Nintendo's gearing up for E3 and doesn't want to reveal all the secrets prematurely. Nintendo also wanted to get some smaller news over with, such as the Mario & Sonic game, so bigger games can be revealed right before the start of the big expo.
I'm actually interested in the new Mario & Sonic. It looks good and hopefully it plays well. The Sega partnership is definitely a big deal, and I hope Nintendo gives them wise advice as they're making Sonic: Lost World and this other unannounced Sonic game.
I'm excited for Game & Wario. It does look like a lot of fun and I believe it will surprise people in that it'll have plenty of content to keep you playing for a good while. New Super Luigi U getting a collectible retail version is also cool, although I'm mixed when it comes to the extra month I'll have to wait to get it, but I'm a patient person.
It's somewhat surprising that people aren't more excited about the playable E3 demos at Best Buy. I think that's cool considering there's been no other time Nintendo or anyone else offered E3 demos to the public outside E3.
This seems to downplay the notion that it'll be like the Sonic Adventure series and Sega's track record of newness is hit-and-miss, but I'll stay cautiously optimistic.
This was a interesting Iwata Asks, especially when they talked about how everyone at Nintendo contirbuted to the game. The top developers of Donkey Kong Country Returns, Metroid Prime, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, and Kirby's Epic Yarn each added their two cents to the game, and even the guys behind Brain Age: Concentration Training helped with the bonus content. It all makes me think that this game is bigger than it seems and will end up surprising people.
A Mario and Sonic All-Stars Kart Racing sounds cool, but I wouldn't like the idea of it directly conflicting with Mario Kart U. I still think it's either going to be Sonic being a playable character in Mario Kart U or Mario being a DLC character for Sonic All-Stars Racing. Right now, we can only speculate.
This Direct was what I expected; nothing too big but still good news. I can't say for sure what was the best news since the new Sonic game, boxed New Super Luigi U, and E3 demos all sounded equally good to me.
This could allude to either Sonic being playable in Mario Kart U or Mario being a DLC character in Sonic All-Stars Racing.
I wouldn't mind Sonic being in Mario Kart U considering Pac-Man was in Mario Kart Arcade GP 1 and 2, so there have been Mario Kart cross-overs before. But Mario was also considered to be in the first Sonic Racing game as well, so I guess we'll just wait and see what happens.
You don't have to love the Wii U, but you don't have to act like a jerk to disagree. Acting like a jerk just makes you look petty and unprofessional, making you lose credibility. It's funny he had to do this during a Nintendo Direct mostly about the Wii U as well.
Good, they're going to try to steal the thunder before the expo even starts! Super Smash Bros. will easily be my biggest interest, but the 3D Mario and Mario Kart will be great to see too. I really hope both Mario games come out this year!
They'll be announcing other new Wii U games as well. Retro's new game?
I'm interested in this, believe it or not. I know there's a love/hate relationship among fans toward the Mario & Sonic series, but I thought the London 2012 games for Wii and 3DS were fine. However, I'm hoping Sochi 2014 will be better. I found it amusing how Iwata had to give us a geography lesson.
I really hope there's a Best Buy near me that can offer this. Trying the new 3D Mario and Mario Kart would be nice, and it would also help those that haven't gotten a Wii U yet. In fact, this would probably affect non-Wii U owners more than actual Wii U owners, since not only will it make them hyped, but will make them want to get a Wii U as well to play it. A smart move by Nintendo here.
I'm getting the boxed version for sure, not just out of the sake of collecting but also because I'm a physical copy person anyway. The price is actually generous considering what you're getting. More than 80 levels sounds like you'll be getting a game about as big as New Super Mario Bros. U, but only for $20 or $30 instead of $60.
Good news; Nintendo helping Sega with this new game ought to increase the potential. Tails flying a plane with Sonic on it reminds me of Sonic Adventure.
I'm keeping expectations low once again, which didn't work out the past three times. However, this time I really think this won't be anything ground-breaking. They would have to save it for right before E3 if it was. Release dates and more gameplay footage is all I would want, although I can't rule out yet another new game of some kind being announced. A Kirby game for 3DS would be nice.
I'm already getting it, but it's nice to know that this does the original justice. The slower framerate won't be too bad if the 3D delivers, and I expect it will. Mainly I'm double-dipping not just for the 3D, but also the portability of the game, which is sure to be nice when out on the road.
I'll see if I can keep my expectations under control once again. Mainly I would be pleased if this covered release dates for New Super Luigi U and Mario Golf: World Tour, but of course new gameplay footage or even yet another new game reveal would be welcome.
Before I had a feeling that they would hold a Direct at some point this May, so now that it's the middle of the month they'll be doing it. Bring on the good news!
The 3DS is awesome, no doubt, but as of right now it still has some improvement yet to go. Thankfully, that will be reached by this end of this year with Animal Crossing, Mario & Luigi, Mario Golf, Pokemon, Zelda, and Mario Party, and that's when I'll say it's pure awesome awesomeness. Even games the following year will just add on to that.
And to think that in the summer of 2011 that the 3DS was going through a blistering drought in which doubt and gloom was leveled at the system. Makes me think of a certain Nintendo home console with a tablet controller.
If it's anything like the Pac-Man World games, then it may have a shot. I actually liked playing the two games on Playstation and Gamecube respectively.
This game is gradually looking better, which shouldn't be much of a concern considering 3DS games rarely look that good when first revealed. I'm still thinking about getting X; Xerneas looks very cool. The box art reinforces that.
What he said was nothing new to what I've been saying the past few months. The Wii U, just like with the 3DS, will have to rely on the holiday season to really get a boost. The new 3D Mario and Mario Kart U will likely come this holiday season, and they will help the Wii U just as Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 helped the 3DS.
I like all four of them, especially the goat and panda, and the boxart looks nice too. The customization sounds like a good idea, although it's hard telling how far they're willing to take it.
I've saved Donkey Kong Island and the Mushroom Kingdom more times than I can recall. Why, in Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, I saved the universe a few times!
Honestly, the battery life is not that big of an issue for me, and I still use my original 3DS. Whenever I see it gets too low, I simply charge it, and if there's ever a time I really want to keep playing when it's low, I would just play with the charging cord on. That's not inconvenient for me.
This was likely because of the disappointing sales of Epic Mickey 2, but Disney Infinity does have the potential to turn things around for them if they can reach it.
This guy sounds like he's belittling Nintendo as a cranky, old man in that he calls Nintendo's planning "brashness", "warped", and "stubborn thinking." Curiously, he wrote that Nintendo's first-party games "aren't coming anytime soon" despite the fact that Mario Kart U and likely the 3D Mario will both come out for the Wii U this year. Some people don't want a game console to be like a big living room computer, Nintendo actually cares about games and doesn't have to slavishly fall in-line with whatever the competition does.
Nintendo's not skipping E3 at all; they just won't have a traditional press conference.
Pachter's right as far as this being a good decision for Nintendo business-wise and that they gave it a lot of thought, but he's completely wrong about no good new games being revealed and playable. Hasn't he heard of Mario Kart U and the next 3D Mario not only being revealed, but also being playable during E3? It doesn't sound like it, and that would be shockingly ignorant of him if that was the case.
They should be holding Nintendo Directs during E3. This is a media event, and as part of their new effort to cater to each demographic of the video game industry, Nintendo's going to focus on their fans through Directs and investors at business meetings.
As far as I'm concerned, the Wii U VC doesn't appeal to me much right now. I already own most of the games it offers or will offer later this week on either the Wii VC, 3DS VC, or the original carts. Earthbound is the only one I'm truly interested in, and that won't come until later this year.
It seems like Nintendo's only focusing on bringing over the Wii VC to the Wii U VC right now, and at the rate it's going right now, it'll be a very long process. But Nintendo could seriously give it a boost if they adapt Gamecube games to the Wii U as they appeared to be interested in before. Playing Luigi's Mansion or Super Mario Sunshine on the GamePad would be appealing, right?

I believe the 3D Mario will release this year, but I don't know about it releasing that early. Wouldn't Nintendo want it to have a Christmas season boost?
I love looking over my Miiverse art gallery of drawings I "yeahed." It's amazing how far people can push the Miiverse limitations. Some of them I have a very hard time figuring out how they can make it with just a little stylus.
The Miiverse integration for the Sketch minigame sounds like fun. I ultimately think most people will realize Game & Wario has more depth than originally perceived, just like Nintendo Land.
If they wanted to stay faithful to the original at any rate, a Light and Dark World would be an obvious feature. But I'm not worried that they will think of some other unique features to set this game apart from its inspiration.
All it is is onomatopoeia, which is used somewhat commonly in Japan. Especially if they're using two different forms of Japanese writing, I don't see a problem.
Is it just me, or has there been a lot of negative Nintendo news lately?
Why didn't they consider Microsoft's and Sony's games? They are getting new consoles.
No, I don't think iphone and tablet games are going to take over the game industry. How could they replace a fully fleshed-out game? These iphone tablet games are for the most part very light and meant to be played in short bursts, not a full experience like a handheld console's games.
This is laughable! How does even Animal Crossing use the kind of violence that incites massacres and bullying? They must think kids really are stupid. This reminds me of when I read that Super Mario Bros. was considered violent back when it released because it featured jumping on turtles. Plus, there's been British tabloids that speculated about the Sandy Hook killer's alleged obsession of Call of Duty and Dynasty Warriors, despite no evidence whatsoever for the latter game.
It's a wonder they didn't look at Super Smash Bros. Brawl. That has a lot of weapons and violence, but it's cartoon violence, not realistic violence.
Once again, they pay so much attention to video games without caring to take a look at cartoons, TV, movies, and books. This is being biased. Plus, there are studies that show that the overwhelming majority of kids are not affected by violent games. I don't care for truly violent games, but there is a bias going on
