daveh30 commented on Minecraft: Story Mode is Heading to Wii U:

I've been looking forward to this since it was announced. As much as I would prefer to play it on Nintendo hardware, I'll end up buying it for PS4 just for the trophies... sigh I really wish Nintendo would implement an achievement system.

The article states that Amiibo data cannot be copied back to the original figure once it's used on the Amiiqo, but couldn't this be done through the game itself? Load the data from the Amiiqo into the game, the save it back to the Amiibo?

soo... bad = framerate, textures, models, overall design, controls.... pretty much everything important. good = dude lights a smoke if you idle for a few seconds, and Sod is apparently hilarious if you happen to be British.

yeah, i'll still be passing on this pile...

lol... Those are the dumbest excuses I've ever read. I like the Pro Controller and all, but none of these are part of the reason. If you find the Gamepad too heavy, you need to put down the video games and get a little exercise...

The Wii U is taylor made for Minecraft, buts it time was about 2 and a half years ago. Minecraft should have been an eShop launch title (or been there as soon as the Xbox exclusivity was up). at this point, you can play it on pretty much everything... i think my toaster runs a port of it. Anyone who wanted to play this has access to it somehwere else. It's just too late to matter.

Not sure how I feel about this.... I wasn't planning on getting this, and it does look truly awful, so in a way its nice that NoA is doin' a little quality control (too late for those who suffered through The Letter, but I digress...). But it is a disappointing that a game that actually had people excited, and an exclusive at that, will end up being swept under the rug, or possibly be released by another publisher to terrible reviews and just up being an embarassment. Nintendo needs get something right soon...

Toss up between Mario Maker and Fatal Frame for me. They're obviously such different sorts of titles that it's hard for me to pick one, but they're both Day 1 purchases. Yoshi is also a Day 1 buy, along with that adorable plush Amiibo. Little on the fence with Star Fox, given some of the mixed reactions out of E3, so that's a maybe. I will also be buying Lego Dimensions (and the Back To The Future pack), but that's a PS4 purchase, Trophies being the deciding factor there for me,

I'd buy this if we hadn't already been shown it last year. I understand games get delayed and schedules change, but if they had something to show last year, they should have more to show this year. The game is coming, people want to know about it, show it.

There's just so much that I want to know about that hasn't been mentioned at all. The Club Nintendo successor... We know its coming, but that's it. What the heck is it? We knew we weren't going to hear about Zelda U or NX, doesn't make it less disappointing. Nothing on Devil's 3rd or Fatal Frame... but we get an Animal Crossing amiibo spinoff! (yawn). There's lots of stuff coming, and much of it worth being excited about, but I really think the focused on the wrong things.

Overall, I'm disappointed. everything shown that I have any interest in (Star Fox, Mario Maker, Yoshi) we already knew about. There was literally not one new game shown that I have any interest in buying. As much as I love Metroid and Zelda, i'm not interested in co-op multi-player titles, online or otherwise. I want a solid single-player experience from those franchises.

Sony wasn't any better for me, only Uncharted 4 looked any good, and we knew about that already.

Bethesda has had the best showing so far with Doom (!!) and Fallout. By a country mile... it's not even a close race.

I already own 2 of the 3, and I can't say Sportsball interests me much, but this was already a great deal so no complaints here. Really hope this wasn't a one-off and they do it again in the future.

remakes are fine, as long as the original is from at least 2 generations ago. (ie. we don't need The Last Us Remastered less than a year after the original...). From the Cube, I'd like to see Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion.

daveh30 commented on Talking Point: Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Br...:

@Larry433 thats not really the point at all. the point is what we have gotten for Smash Bros is not the kind of DLC that extends the life of a game. What we have gotten for MK8 is. If Nintendo is gonna start offering more DLC to pad its release schedule, DLC like what we have gotten for MK8 suits that purpose. DLC like what we have seen for Smash does not. Thats it.

daveh30 commented on Talking Point: Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Br...:

@Larry433 the time frame stuff absolutely does apply to both games, never said it didn't. The difference is with MK8 they're bridging that gap with meaningful DLC that adds gameplay. In the case of smash, they've added nothing of substance. MK8 is DLC done properly. With Smash, I'd say flesh it out into a meaningful pack with either a new mode or new stages, or don't bother. Yes, some people buy costumes that do nothing, and that's fine, but it does nothing to extend this game into a "platform within a platform" or an evergreen release as described in this article.
Realistically, so far, Smash does not deserve to even be mentioned with this topic. The article should be about MK8 and Hyrule Warriors. Those have been the only two games with an evergreen release approach taken.

The MK8 DLC has been great. I'd certainly rather see a decent DLC pack every 6 months than yearly releases, and 1 game per generation can be a long wait, so this is a great solution. MK8 is DLC done right.
The Smash Bros DLC has been pointless nickel and dime. either beef it up to make it worthwhile, or don't bother. Smash Bros is the type of DLC we don't need.

daveh30 commented on Nintendo Submits Trademark for NES Controller:

Probably so they claim royalties on 3rd party accessories. You can get NES controller pattern skins for all most anything. I had one on my last cell phone, and I have one on my Wii U gamepad. Be sweet if they released a wireless version for WiiU though, even if it was only compatible with NES VC titles...

daveh30 commented on Poll: Would You Like Mario Kart 8 and Super Sm...:

The Mario Kart 8 DLC is DLC done right. Certainly the best value DLC in any Nintendo game, and probably the best value DLC in the industry. If they wanna put out more packs like the 2 we've seen so far, I'll keep buying 'em. And if they could give us a pack or 2 for MK7, I'd be all over that as well. (or maybe give us something similar to the challenges from MK DS... i'd pay $10 for that as an add on mode...)

The Smash Bros DLC, i'm not so keen on. I have no problems with Mewtoo as Club Nintendo bonus, but i wouldn't buy him. Lucas, i'd like to have him, but i won't pay what they're asking for a single character (yes I realize his pricing is in line with other games on other systems, still not paying it.) The costumes are silly, and i really hope they don't sell well. That kind of nickle and dime DLC has always bugged me. If they did a pack similar the MK packs with, say, 2 new characters, and some new stages, or 1 new character, some of the costumes, and some new stages, I'd pay $8- $10 for that...

I suppose, generally, I'd just much rather pay more for a package of meaningful DLC than the cheap cosmetic nickel and dime crap. The Luigi DLC for NSMBU was great too. Thats what I like, expansion packs, not a dumb hat for my character.
