If i worked for Nintendo in any capacity that give me any say in VC pricing stratagy, the first thing I'd want to do is look at the sales figures for that first batch of Wii U VC games that were available for $0.30 each. Some of those games, like say Balloon Fight, HAD to have made more money at 30cents than they have since at full price. I understand not wanting to devalue a product, but theres definitely a point where volume of sales is going to trump higher profit margins per unit. I'm not saying NES titles need to go that low, but they should definitely be lower. Move them down into impulse buy territory, sell more games, make more money... it's Win-Win.

I have Super Mario Kart on Wii VC, so I'll get the upgrade... other than that, another slow week. need some new 3DS games!

(and I still wish Nintendo would give us an achievement/ Trophy system for 3DS/ Wii U. I feel so dirty spending all my time on my Vita and PS3/4, but i have a horribly unhealthy trophy addiction. )

@DefHalan In one post you've used the argument that it is, in fact a finished game, and therefore worthy on inclusion on the eShop, and then turned around and argued that the fact that its an unfinished work in progress buys it some leeway. You can't have it both ways.

@DefHalan

I would have zero problem with buying into a game early and playing early test versions while receiving regular updates. In fact, I've done it before. Some started out rough and got better, some were pretty bad and never got much better than 'playable'. that totally cool, because I knew what I was getting into. Thats to the problem with The Letter. There is no indication in the eShop that this is an early version and that the intent is to finish it with updates. It is presented as a full game. It should be a full game. I honestly blame Nintendo more than the Dev on this one... It should not have gotten through their cert process as a complete game in its current state.

i cant find the other post, but he was a bit more agitated... it was more like "i told you dave, it is a finished complete game. "

Hyperbole is the internet's best friend, and there's an unwritten rule that anything that vaguely disappoints must be colorfully compared to the experience of watching Hitler's ghost sodomizing a beloved childhood pet, but The Letter really is that bad.

@DefHalan when I messaged the developer and suggested that, perhaps, he should have finished the game before releasing it as opposed to relying on patches after the fact, he was very clear that he considers The Letter to be a finished, complete game in It's current form. The updates are only "bonus, added value" additions. That whole "but there's gonna be an update!" Argument we've seen on miiverse doesn't hold any weight.

I wish everyone would totally avoid the use of the word tablet when talking about the Gamepad. It's not a tablet, and no one with half a brain ever thought it was. Its a game controller. period. thats it. a very cool game controller, but just a video game controller.

I want system wide achievements. So bad. Nintendo will always be my first love, but I find myself playing my PS3/4 and Vita more and more just because I'm addicted to trophies... If we can get achievements/ trophies in Mario Golf and Mario Kart, world peace cannot be far behind...

last gen i started out with a Wii & 360. i got sick of getting 360's replaced/ repaired after the 3rd RROD in a year and went with the PS3. upgraded my Wii to the U and PS3 to the 4.... done with MS. If i had to choose one, Nintendo always comes first. In fact, if Nintendo ceased to exist, i'd give up video games completely. Sony consoles are just to keep me occupied between big Nintendo releases...

daveh30 commented on Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's E3?:

personally, I thought it was all kind of a let down... anything I cared about at all we either already knew about (Zelda, Yoshi, Smash, Amiibo) or is too far off to get excited about now (Mario Maker, MP10, Splatoon, Star Fox) I was really hoping they'd have some big surprise for over the summer to maintain the MK8 momentum. I think Captain Toad (which I was really hoping to see again, either as a stand alone game or DLC for SM3DW) and Smash 3DS (which we knew about) were literally the only things they had I was interested in for this year.

Hopefully we get some release dates coming up at E3, something to maintain and build off this momentum... looking at the release schedule right now, there isn't much there... hopefully they're aren't taking this straight into another drought...

I would love to see it on Wii U, seems like a perfect match for the gamepad. I've gone through cycles with Minecraft since its original release. I played the PC version non stop for months, then stopped playing completely. I started up again when the pocket version was released, but that version sucks, so it didn;t last long. I played the PS3 version long enough to get the Platinum trophy, but haven't touched it in a few months. When the Vita version comes out in august, I'll be back at it. I'll take a pass on the PS4 version, but a wii U port next year would have be back in its addictive clutches..

I really enjoyed my VB, and regret ever selling it.. (like i regret selling all my other old Nintendo games...) Every time I fill out a Club Nintendo survey for a VC game,i request VB games on the 3DS VC. Seems like a perfect fit. People complained about the VB hardware a lot, but some of the games were actually quite good for the time... 3DS would be a perfect way to let people experience these games, as they were intended, without having to deal with the unwieldy console.

Having played the original release of Moon on DS, and now put about an hour into Chronicles, my only complaint with the new version would be the cut scenes. The cut scenes are not 3D and do not look to have been improved upon from the original. That being said, the graphics during actual gameplay are a huge boost and look fantastic. The trailers do not do it justice. I always liked the Metroid Prime Hunters style touch screen FPS controls, but the cpp works great in this game as well, so theres options there. really looking forward to playing through this one again!

I'm not totally sold on the idea of digital only, but the only part i really feel the need to clarify is "keeping the SD card slot would also be a fine idea"... its not a fine idea, its an absolute requirement. non upgradable memory is an total deal breaker. I won't buy a phone without upgradeable memory, i sure as heck wouldn't but a game system without it.

I don't think E3 would be the right venue for the QoL thing... that seems more like a CES thing, maybe? It does seem early to outright replace either the Wii U or 3DS, but maybe something along the lines of those Fusion rumors we heard last year, launched as a '3rd pillar' alongside the current line up? I would love to see that...
(someone else had mentioned earlier that GBA was younger than the 3DS currently is when DS was announced, but it was also stated to not be a replacement, and was originally supposed to be a 3rd pillar alongside the GameBoy line...)

daveh30 commented on Nintendo Confirms Mario Golf: World Tour DLC, ...:

I`m totally okay with this type of DLC. It`s the nickel and dime BS that gets me. An add-on shirt for 99 cents, a golf club for $1.50 ... there should be some sort of code of practices against that crap.

As far as Day 1 DLC, I'm not against it, but it just seems like a wasted opportunity. The people who are gonna buy a game, play through it as fast as they can, and trade it in the next day are gonna do that regardless of how mush day one content there is. Just seems like you'd want to hold back the DLC for a bit, give those people a reason to hang on to the game and keep used copies off the shelf longer... I suppose that applies more to a story driven type game than a sports game, but still.

daveh30 commented on Nintendo Confirms Mario Golf: World Tour DLC, ...:

only thing i would have liked to have seen is the DLC spread out a little more. Maybe the Gold Mario available day 1 with purchaseof the season pass, then the 3 course packs released June, July, August. or even 2 months apart. I feel like that should be the whole point of DLC, to extend interest in the game over a longer period. Day 1 DLC always felt like a cash grab to me. Other than that, it looks like they're offering a good value, hopefully the game is as good as the GC ario Golf was! wasted A LOT of hours on that one

I really hope this comes to NA... I'd be all over it. Nintendo really should do more Collectors Editions for their games. They have the perfect franchises for it.
(as an aside, the Grand Wizard Cartman Statue that came with the South Park Stick of Truth Collectors Edition is super sweet....)

Part of me wants to be sad about this, but truthfully, if you hadn't told me I never would have noticed. Haven't played the Wii online in years... probably 2009 was the last time. Couch MP is still the way to go with Nintendo franchises.

And this is exactly why calls to drop the gamepad are misguided. If they would actually use the thing, it has the potential to offer a superior gameplay experience. Without the gamepad, the Wii U is just the underpowered console option.

That Dr. Mario promotion is nice, but it would be even better if owning Dr. Luigi on your Wii U got you a free copy of Dr. Mario for the 3DS VC. hopefully this promotion makes it to NA this week as well.
I'll be picking up the Lego Movie game (saw the movie this past weekend... its hilarious.) but i'll probably end up getting it on PS4 instead of Wii U, just for the trophies. Lego games are always an easy (if time consuming) Platinum...

@WYLD-WOO "Good to hear some people in Canada got the game way before anyone else in NoA, tho."

I have a buddy who owns Eu and Jap 3DSs and imports a lot of games. He's had the European version since before Christmas. When I didn't like the NA demo, he insisted the full version was better and that I should try it.

@WYLD-WOO I have, in fact, played the game. It's dumb. But i also don't like JRPG's... never understood the whole Japanese pre-pubescent melodrama thing. or menu based combat. seriously, WTF?

And the very first review of this game that pops in a google search, trashes it.
"If Bravely Default trying to be a modernized old-school JRPG represents anything in this modern age of gaming, it’s that the old-school JRPG is a genre that has had its time in the sun. We shouldn’t grasp at and try to recreate the shock of Aeris dying, the complex narrative of Xenogears, or the lauded mechanics of Chrono Trigger. We should try to create a fresh experience, but instead we have Bravely Default, trying to pass off its outdated systems, cookie-cutter character stereotypes, and slow, mostly boring story as nostalgia. The game lives up to its name — it takes courage to release such a bland, regular game and aggressively pretend it’s anything more than that."

Guess maybe the internet isn't as unanimous on it as you thought?
