@BLPs You could, but as I said, you will be spending more with the PS4 in the long run than with a budget gaming PC..
I used to be Nintendo + Sony, switched to Nintendo + PC because I could see the PS Plus thingy becoming mandatory from a mile off. And I don't want to pay to rent games and access online features, thank you very much
But yeah, your laptop can double up as a gaming PC if you want. Don't let a bunch of arrogant fools put you off from giving it a go, that's my suggestion

@CreativeWelshman I think the PC audience is too vast to be categorized like that (ex. plenty of people played Goat Simulator out of curiosity and for the lulz, not just to scream at a webcam), but I do see your point.
It just gets a bit unfair if we ignore the considerable number of niches PC gaming can fill

darkgamer001 commented on Splatoon Grabs Second Place in UK Chart Début:

@BLPs To be fair, unless you're obsessed with playing in 4K on multiple monitors or something of the sort, you don't need to spend crazy amounts of money on a gaming PC or even update it regularly.

There's a number of budget gaming PC builds that aren't a whole lot more expensive than the PS4 and X1. And the money you'll save from online fees and getting games from Humble Bundles/Steam Sales/etc. more than makes up for spending more.
I could then go on about the freedom it gives you (with things like mods and multiple control schemes) and the fact that a good PC can be used for much more than gaming...

Regardless, if the people you know are getting expensive PCs just to feel superior or something, I can see why you'd have that impression. Just wanted to point out that there are valid reasons why people go for them that don't involve the whole master race arrogance thingy...

As for your other point about people needing to grow up (mentally) and just admit to liking a product. Spot on mate, but don't think this kind of sheep mentality is limited to the UK.... :/

@mjc0961 I agree with you on the pre-order culture being bad, but I feel you are kinda going against the wrong publisher. I have yet to be let down by any Nintendo game I've pre-ordered.
Until that changes, I don't feel the need to change my pre-order habits when it comes to Nintendo games. I can't say the same thing for other publishers. Ultimately it has to come down to reputation as well. There's a difference between...for example, pre-ordering a Zelda game and pre-ordering something from EA or Ubisoft

@bitleman asking quorthon to stop with his anti-nintendo tirade is a bit like asking some of the third parties he seems to adore to cut down on rip-off DLC. It's going to have exactly the same effect...or should I say non-effect.

That said, Monster Hunter is a very good example. It's a shame others will ignore it, or attempt to downplay it to push through their agendas

@ColdingLight
Come on...the videogame industry isn't some lala land...in many cases, you have to choose between a game getting delayed or it being rushed. And guess what? People would be up in arms regardless of the outcome
At least with the former, when the game comes out....it will have been polished

@Darknyht I wouldn't call a generation in which you make more money than most mortal minds can possibly comprehend a 'pariah victory' or whatever. Again, this is a BUSINESS and that is what counts.
Besides, one could argue that after the N64, there was no turning back when it comes to third party support.

darkgamer001 commented on Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target,...:

What I'm trying to say is....no one cared about defining "winning a generation" in any other terms other than 'who sold the most'
Then the Wii came along and people like you suddenly cropped up to tell us that it's about developer support, or selling the most in particular regions, etc.
At the end of the day, this is a business....and it is practically a given that Nintendo made waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more money that its rivals that generation. Hence why it's a clear cut win, unless...of course...you try to introduce more elements as usual

darkgamer001 commented on Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target,...:

@Quorthon

Oh please, by your own argument, MS can never win a generation because it gets wrecked in one region - Japan.
What you're doing is the equivalent of someone claiming the opposing team didn't win because they used a gimmicky strategy or because his team had more possession.
100 million sales vs 80ish million sales globally is the figure that counts. And if you want to talk about learning about this industry, bother learning about Wii development costs vs. HD development costs, and you'll continue seeing how big of a winner the Wii was.

darkgamer001 commented on Nintendo Stays in Profit With Wii U on Target,...:

Sure, let's introduce new factors for winning a generation, simply because we're not content with the Wii winning the last one. Same old stuff I've been seeing all along.
It's ok to say the PS1, PS2 and now the PS4 is winning it based on sales, but the Wii? Nope, time to change the goalposts...

Sure, I don't like the fact that he's pushing games like Spikey Walls and that he has to use ALL CAPS in the titles...but you know what? If we're going to crucify devs when they make things we don't like, that makes for a rather toxic environment. i.e. you're not helping!
Other developers aren't going to be like "HA! He deserves the criticism, his games suck!" No, they will likely be wary of an audience that is all to happy to bash games left right and centre.
(I'm not saying to not criticize games that are legitimately bad....but please make the distinction between bad games and games you personally don't like)

I don't see the point of comparing Xenoblade to Legend of Zelda. They are two extremely high quality titles. But one debuted in 2012 and the other is a bastion of Nintendo and older than 25 years. Gee, I wonder which series is gonna win?

You really have to wonder what the numbers are for people with an 8GB console who would:

darkgamer001 commented on Koei Tecmo Europe All But Confirms Fatal Frame...:

@Quorthon So what? A lot of games are conceptual ideas that have been around for a long time. The fact is that they were shown now, not during the N64 era.
If I want to use bare scraps to believe something....well you seem to be doing the same to prove the opposite. For example, the link you provided doesn't really back up it's claim that those games will be part of the Starfox game, it's only a hypothesis. The fact that Nintendo went to lengths to display them separate from Starfox would indicate that they are more than mere tech demos or a mini game from Starfox. What seems likely is that they are separate games all linked to the Starfox universe...possibly releasing before Starfox itself to build up hype for the main game. Now that last part is of course, pure speculation...but let's just say I'm not the only one going into unbacked speculation here

@Quorthon Never said they were games. Erm...wut?
Miyamoto said that they were related to the same Starfox universe but never said they're not games in their own right. It's in the interview itself

It is scheduled for 2015. Now if we want to doubt everything with a release date based on past experiences, we could do the same for a crapton of other IPs on other consoles. Until a delay is confirmed it's scheduled for 2015
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-commits-to-2015-release-date-for-star-fox/1100-6422055/

As for the other games, one is already scheduled for early 2015

@Quorthon So you can arbitrarily remove games based on your almighty power to decide what is a game and what is a tech demo, and your inside knowledge on what is and isn't coming out in 2015 despite the E3 confirmation. Nice....nah, I think those 3 games will stay on that list, thanks.

Let's get some things straight here. There is no massive shortage of games in 2015. We already know about:
Captain Toad (Europe)
Splatoon
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Zelda U
Star Fox U
Miyamoto's two projects
Mario Maker
Devil's Third

That said, yes it's a moronic decision, and we should keep contacting these companies to let them know we want this game

@Yorumi "deflecting from the problem doesn't really change the truth of the statement"

So in order to not 'deflect' from the problem, it's ok to single out a system? Cause from the rest of your comment, I'm sure you understand that this is a global problem. That is pretty much what I was trying to say. Talk about game droughts, but don't single out a single system unless it is only that system suffering from droughts, which is, as I'm sure we can all agree...not the case.

Actually it is Capcom's doing. This is a port, not a new game. Are you telling me that a port of a game that was loved on both the GC and the Wii would do badly on the Wii U, yet would do well on the other platforms?
Are you telling me that they wouldn't recoup the peanuts it would cost them to put this on Wii U? Come on now...
There is a perception problem that's running rampant and distorting reality, end of.

If you don't like the idea of an off-tv screen, fine. You're entitled to your opinion. But plenty of people like the idea...even if you don't personally. New stuff and innovation doesn't have to be liked by everyone, and rarely is.

@JohnRedcorn
Because EVERY game on Wii U needs to utilize the Gamepad in creative ways, right?
This is a trap that many people fall into. Should there be more games that utilize these features? Yes. But do ALL games need to utilize them? NO.

Back in the Wii era, 3 of my top games were SSBB, Xenoblade and MH Tri. None of these games utilized the controller features. But then games like Wii Sports Resort, Skyward Sword and MK Wii justified them.

Is this that hard to understand?

The PS4 being "infinitely more desirable" is extremely subjective. Personally, I'd take a dozen Wii Us and even PS3s over a system that now requires you to pay for online and has zero must have games at this point in time.

Also, if you want confirmation that he's trolling, look at the above comment, with yet more generic 'underpowered', 'no 3rd party support', etc. references.

And for the record, it does have a friend system. Shows how much you really owned the console, let alone two...

I wouldn't trust vgchartz completely, but multiple sources state that the sales were between 1.5 to 2 million, so I guess in this case, it's quite accurate.
So yes, it sold considerably less than the PS2 version, but we all know what install base the PS2 had. However, despite a far smaller install base on the GC, the title did rack up a good amount of sales. I'm sure Capcom profited quite well from the GC version

It's sad how some people seem to think that we should buy hacked and gimped ports so as not to be "part of the problem".
The problem has, primarily, been the attitude of 3rd parties towards Nintendo consumers. Why should said consumers buy these games when they're being treated like second-class citizens. It makes no logical sense
