Dark_Jinjo commented on Prepare To Gnash Those Teeth: Perfect Dark May...:

I feel that it is a little short-sighted to call Banjo Kazooie on XBLA a travesty. We all love the game and it is great to play it with a dual-analog setup and in high definition. While I wish it was available for all the nintendo loyalists out there who just own a Wii, it is fantastic that you can play what is essentially a perfect version of it on the 360.

Dark_Jinjo commented on USA WiiWare Update: LIT:

I have been playing through this all afternoon and it is definitely a unique approach to the puzzle genre. I wouldn't call it a great game, but it is certainly much better than most of what is on offer for WiiWare games. I had the hardest time at the beginning of this game though because there is absolutely no semblance of a tutorial. But since I figured out the controls it has been enjoyable. It doesn't offer much in the way of horror, but it has a really nice atmosphere and there has been some tension during the puzzle solving process. From what I have played though tit doesn't seem like there would be much reason to play through it again. Most of the levels seem like they only have one solution. I really do admire the effort that went into this game though, like I said the presentation is really good for a WiiWare game. That's just my impressions so far.

Dark_Jinjo commented on Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (29th Oct):

That's probably true, but I personally would have a problem if I owned all three episodes and could not have them all on my dash at the same time, or if I did, then I would not have much room left for any of my other WiiWare games. Then again, I am one of those crazy people who never throws away anything that comes with a game I purchase, and I still own dozens of Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and N64 games with their boxes and manuals. So I am a little nutty that way :)

It seems to me that the reason for the Strong Bad games falling off the charts may have more to do with storage space than anything else. I bought and loved the first one, but with new releases like World of Goo, the Art Style series, and Tetris Party I find it hard to get rid of them to make room for a Strong Bad game that is most likely identical to the one that I have already played. Maybe that's just me, but I plan on waiting until they fix up my storage issues before owning all of them. And by then, there might be so many other good games that I never go back and get them. I hope Telltale Games is listening, and I hope that they are as disappointed with Nintendo as we all are when it comes to storage. If other customers are anything like me, then there are A LOT of WiiWare games that are not being downloaded due to this issue.

Endless mode sounds awesome. This game is kicking my trash though, here's hoping I can beat it before the DLC arrives. Can we all encourage our friends to buy this game and send a message to Capcom, and hopefully Nintendo, that this kind of re-make is fantastic and appreciated. If this thing sells really well then maybe Nintendo will get around to making a classic Mario or Zelda; and then I could die happy.

Dark_Jinjo commented on Will Sega CD Support Ever Come To The Virtual ...:

I think that the best bet we have for any Sega CD games are those that were published within the first year or so of the console's life-span because those ones were not programmed to take advantage of the multiple processors and would not be as difficult to emulate.

Dark_Jinjo commented on Will Sega CD Support Ever Come To The Virtual ...:

It seems to me that the Sega CD would be difficult to emulate. It was a mess of hardware trying to be the pinnacle of 2D gaming and loads of 3D support thrown in at the last minute to compete with the original Playstation. There were multiple processors on the board similar to what the Playstation 3 has today. Many of the best games for the system were meticulously coded to take advantage of the different processors, and both 2D and 3D elements. From a hardware standpoint I don't know of any other system that would be as difficult to emulate. I have also heard that Sega was in such dissary at the time that many of the original codes for these great games have been completely lost. I just don't see anyone at these companies taking the time to backwards engineer these titles in order to sell them on the VC when not many of them had enough popularity in their own day to make that investment seem worthwhile. From what I have seen of Nintendo's policy for VC so far (minimal effort for maximum profit) I would bet that we won't see Sega CD games for a long time, if we ever see them at all.

Dark_Jinjo commented on WiiWare vs Xbox Live Arcade – Fight!:

I agree that WiiWare seems more financially agreeable to developers, but I think that within a year of starting up we will all look at WiiWare and say the same thing, "the service is full of ..." Of course we know there will be great games as well, just like there are on Live Arcade; but overall it seems obvious that WiiWare will be flooded with crap. That's not to say that I am not tremendously excited about the possibilities of WiiWare though.

Dark_Jinjo commented on Konami to bring us WiiWare goodness?:

Can you say Zack and Wiki 2: WiiWare Adventures? I think that regular updates for ZW would be awesome over WiiWare. New puzzle levels every so often and they could use them to promote the retail game. And of course, I'm a Castlevania whore so throw in my Symphony of the Night please. Also let's hear it for shameless self promotion, here's a link to my blog: http://olimars-journal.blogspot.com/

Dark_Jinjo commented on WiiWare interview - Plättchen Twist 'n' Paint...:

Finally another reason to dust off my bongos; and it should allow my little girls to get in on the gaming. I have no problem with 1500 points for a large, detailed game, but the biggest problem Nintendo is going to have getting people to spend that much is that they don't seem like they will be offering any free demos. I understand having no demos for cheap games, but for ten dollars and over we really need a demo to see if it justifies our purchase. I hope they come up with a demo solution. But the game looks great.

Dark_Jinjo commented on Defend Your Castle Dated - Screens Also Released:

Allright, I was one who expressed concern when they announced this title for WiiWare, but I have to say that I really appreciate that they chose a unique art direction and it looks like they are putting a lot of work into it. I personally might not purchase it just because I have played the flash game to death but I would reccommend it to others who haven't experienced it yet; especially with the 4 player co-op in there.

Dark_Jinjo commented on Defend Your Castle Coming to WiiWare:

@TBoneTony: You need to pony up the cash for a Wii development kit in order to put anything on Wii or WiiWare. The dev kit will provide you with the information you need to get your game started and the specs necessary. In order to do that you need to contact NOA directly and fill out some forms that prove you are a legitimate developer. They need you to have a valid business address and references from others in the industry to get approved. It's not as difficult as it sounds though. Just call Nintendo and someone should be able to help you get started. On any major Wii forums you should be able to get advice on how to get references from people in the industry. I bet the guys here at vc-reviews have some contacts if you showed them some of your work and they liked it. Here's hoping it works out for you.

I used to play this at work every day; totally loved it. As you progress you get magic attacks and archers which let you tear the crap out of the invaders. You can check it out now at http://www.addictinggames.com if you are interested. They certainly have a lot of work to make the graphics up to par though. And again, if a developer can plan on selling Eternity's Child for 500 Wii points then who can possibly believe this game is worth that much. I would reccommend checking out the free flash version first and only if you have a ton of extra Wii points and nowhere to spend them should you pay for this. That being said, if they overhaul the graphics and add a little more depth I might consider giving it a try.

Dark_Jinjo commented on US VC Releases - 25th February - Kirby 64:

Just curious why the sudden change in posting them on the weekend before release as opossed to posting them on Monday mornings? Have you guys always known a few days ahead but waited until Monday or is Nintendo just getting better at letting media outlets know sooner? I think I speak for everybody in saying that it definately helps Nintendo to sell more if they let us know ahead of time so we can get excited about the games and go buy some wii points.

Dark_Jinjo commented on WiiWare dated for US, three titles officially ...:

They already announced a boxed retail version of Sam and Max: Season 1 earlier this year. Sorry I can't remember where I read that but it was probably Kotaku or IGN. From what I've read the WiiWare game will be something new, but in the same format as Sam and Max.

Dark_Jinjo commented on WiiWare Focus: Interview with Nnooo (Pop):

Certainly there will be a lot more junk on WiiWare than on XBLA or PSN, but at the same time I think we will see the best downloadable games of this generation there as well due to the more open development atmosphere.

Dark_Jinjo commented on WiiWare Focus: Interview with Nnooo (Pop):

I just hope they don't expect to charge more than 500 points for this title. Having seen some of the games coming to WiiWare featured on this website it seems all or most of them plan on hitting the 500 point spot. This game seems great but without the depth of some of the other titles (like Eternity's Child) it seems like they can't be charging more for a simple bubble popping game. I haven't always been impressed with the pricing model on Live Arcade but at least it is mostly consistent. I am a little worried that Nintendo will let the developers kind of go crazy with their pricing and I would at least like to know that they will have some basic pricing tiers based on things like amount of content or game length. That being said I have a feeling that some of the best games of this generation will soon be found on WiiWare for precisely the reason that Nintendo is being very hands-off with developers and letting them create the content they want and put it out for the price they want. Let's just hope that some of the great Live Arcade and PSN titles like Everyday Shooter and Castlevania SOTN will make their way to WiiWare soon. I can't wait for this service to be up and running. Happy Valentines Day!

Dark_Jinjo commented on Global Inequality on the Virtual Console:

Loving the recent interviews and features you guys are doing. All of these issues are easily explainable I'm sure if only Nintendo would pull their head out of that huge pile of money for a second and answer a few questions for their fans. But seeing as that will never happen please keep bringing these issues up in posts like this and maybe someone from Nintendo will take notice and show us they care.

Dark_Jinjo commented on WiiWare and Retro Gaming:

I loved Castlevania SOTN on XBLA and would love them to bring it over to WiiWare since my 360 is currently broken (for the fifth time, damn you microsoft!) I hope that developers are going to use WiiWare as a platform to update older games with new wii-specific features that they can't do currently with just the virtual console.

Dark_Jinjo commented on Final Fantasy CC: The Little King - Media Blowout:

There are two games under development, the main retail copy of FF:CC and the WiiWare title FF:CC:TLK. Word is that the main retail sequal to the gamecube game is having development problems and might be delayed for a long time or canceled, but the dev teams are focusing on the WiiWare title to launch when WiiWare launches (hopefully) after the upcoming Game Developers Conference.

Dark_Jinjo commented on Final Fantasy CC: The Little King - Media Blowout:

The whole storage mess is a real big problem for Nintendo. How in the world are they going to make money if nobody can download more than one or two WiiWare titles? The majority of people who own a Wii are casual gamers, and no casual gamer or their mom is going to understand how to move games to an SD card and move them back in order to manage memory on their console. Sure they could release some kind of hard drive for those of us who dowload a new game every week, but why not let us use our SD cards to play games from? It doesn't make any sense. All they need to do is have a Wii system update when WiiWare launches that will enable us to dowload from the shop channell directly to the SD card and play them from there, problem solved. I hope somebody at Nintendo wakes up and realizes how much money they stand to lose if they don't fix this problem fast.
