'Man killed as plumber jumps on his head, eats a mushroom and escapes through nearby sewer pipe.' Videogames blamed.
Alcohol is cheap, legal, addictive and kills many people a day in the UK in various different ways, anybody for a sensational study of it in the tabloids?

British media in 'made up headline based almost entirely what they think' shocker. Money grabbing from a dying trade, manned mostly by corrupt, lawbreaking a##holes.
Keep gaming brothers and sisters! I wonder if they'd dare study the effects of miserable soap operas on the lazy drunken masses that populate this self-centered dog pit.

HARRUMPH! I need to chill out, perhaps I played too much Pikmin 3 today.

@8BitSamurai
Err, yes. I don't like running around the same map shooting at folks anymore so I simply don't play FPS's at the moment, I don't cheat or hack in an attempt to enhance the experience. Whether or not the IV/EV training on X and Y is boring is a different debate (and I'd agree entirely with you on that subject) but it is how the game was built for all players. My pokemon experiences are fairly low compared to some of the masters I know and love to learn from, I just want to enjoy gaming as intended alongside everyone else, for example enjoy MK8 now before the must wins destroy another masterpiece and the scores of players move on. Sorry to generalise about generations (I did brace for impact :), I simply get overwhelmed with online contact being about finances/hacks/CEO's and 'winning' E3 instead of communicating about gameplay.

It takes a lot less training/time to become a winning sprinter if you fire the right drugs into your arm, should we just let everybody do it because all it does is reduces the time and effort required? Any indication of hacking , inherited or otherwise should be punished. Experienced players like this know exactly what they have in their hands and should make a good example. The 'win or go home' generation of gamers/cheaters have killed my enthusiasm for multiplayer. Even friends back on the C64 who immediately entered cheats to finish a new game made me laugh. I play games to experience them, not just win or speed play as many as possible, but, I'd expect nothing less of the Me generation (brace).

Cav44 commented on GAME's One Day Mario Kart 8 Deal, for £29.99,...:

I've been buying everything 3ds and Wii u related here in the UK with little problem. I use Amazon nearly all the time and ignore the high street. Prices are always better(especially if youre not in a day one rush) and you don't have to deal with Sony/MS fanboys looking down their soon-to-be-broken noses at you. Lots of Brits are just sheep when it comes to Movies, Games and music. Petrified to form and express their own opinion based on actual experiences. We have a young friend of the family who is desperate for a Wii u for Mario, Lego City etc but dad wants him to have an Xbox because of ' the graphics on Forza 5...'. He's only 8 and I guess it'll all be my fault when he ends up playing 18 certificate games in a couple of years time!

I've been having so much fun on MK8 that I plain forgot to study the sales figures and consider the implementation of the primary controller. I seem to remember, about 30 years ago sitting around playgrounds or parks, just discussing how good the latest game was with friends who had similar interests. I must be getting too old. :-)

Cav44 commented on Philips Secures Wii Patent Victory Over Ninten...:

Also, if the vagueness of Philips' patent is enough for them to win the case, surely Nintendo can do the same to Sony over the Move? I know the camera/sender system is the other way round but surely its a better example of blatant copying than the Philips idea police? I honestly would rather this didn't happen though, Nintendo keep the moral high ground, win the appeal and go about their business of bringing us great games.

Dammit, now I have to hate on my kettle every time I boil it for a brew...
My thoughts are that Nintendo's appeal will work. If it doesn't, Philips will go after Sony and MS with one of the two patents each, in whichever country they have success. Nobody will see the sales of Wii/Wii u banned. Its an option for Philips IF they succeed but highly unlikely as, surprise surprise, they don't have a competing product, its just idea patents again which is why it winds everybody up so much.

I'm certainly looking forward to it. This is the sort of title I'd like to have installed so I can drop in whenever, as with NES remix etc. Has it been confirmed as retail disc and E-shop? Or have my lazy eyes missed the info somewhere?

Ferrari's are darned expensive too, so I don't own one....
The price of an item being out of reach doesn't make stealing it OK. I worked in the industry for many years and finding ways to justify software theft makes me puke. Most folks that bleat about games being too expensive haven't considered the stability of the cost of a game vs say, a pair of branded trainers. Save up and cherish each game you buy, you'll get more satisfaction from it in the end.

Cav44 commented on Russian Phenomenon Tetris Celebrates Its 30th ...:

Still got my original GB on the shelf with one copy of tetris as well as a GB pocket with another copy that I bought when I 'lost' my first GB (long story). Seem to remember playing a DOS version somewhere shortly before I bought the gameboy. Tetris and SML took up a lot of time that year, along with Super RC pro am over a link cable with a buddy. I feel truly old in that I remember playing a paddle driven pong/sports game with my sister back around '78 but I can't remember what it was called.... Still gaming full time too.

Cav44 commented on Poll: Should Nintendo Patch The Controversial ...:

My simplest view of anything like this, on any multiplayer part of any game is that if it looks dumb and detracts from the fun, get rid of it.
Memories of people jump/duck/leaning as they ran around early fps maps (MOH Spearhead I think) just turned off the feeling of being 'in the game'.
In this instance I've just not been online enough yet to comment, notwithstanding the fact that I'm just not that good at MK however much I love it. Slow down and take in the sights people!

Cav44 commented on Mario Kart Month: A History of the Mario Kart ...:

I'm going to leave my vote with MK7 so far. Love 8 to bits but I've not played it enough yet to give it the top spot. 64 split screen at a friends and Super Circuit on GBA Sp are fond early memories. DD (and resi 4 to be fair) was the reason I bought a Cube which is still fully operational under my TV next to my Wii U. Not an MK Wii hater by any means but I didn't get on with it to well although it also has the lowest hours. I only recently bought DS to fill in the gap I had in the series (after buying the original on VC earlier) so I've yet to complete a solo 'snake free' playthrough to experience the tracks.

I don't normally let improved visuals affect me so much, but MK8 makes me want to drive slowly and just take in the sights! Its beautifully detailed with bags of Nintendo charm. Some fantastic new tracks and inspired choices on the retro remakes. Well done Nintendo and thank you.

Still got my silver Double Dash special cube under the TV, and still play Luigi's Mansion, Sunshine, DD and all the Resi's to name a few. Hoping for more N64 gaps to be filled first on the Wii U as well as 3ds Majoras Mask an Mario 64 Conversions!
