Re: EU VC Update - International Karate +

I'm glad Neo Turf Masters has been released. I've been looking for a good golf game on the Virtual Console and have been reluctant to buy NES Open and Power Golf due to some unfavorable reviews from multiple sources. I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.

As for the other two games...I'm not familiar with them at all, but IK+ sounds good.

Re: Gradius Rebirth

This is the only WiiWare game that I will buy immediately after it comes out, with the exception of (possibly) Mega Man 9. I love the Gradius series.

Here's the list, as of June 15:

4. FFCC: My Life as a King (same)
5. TV Show King (same)

Re: Wii Gift feature out now in EU and US

If you go to the newly-added Gifts section of the Wii Shop Channel Operations Guide (available by clicking the ? button), it says:

"You can give Wii friends who are registered to the same country as your Wii a gift of downloadable Wii software.

You can't give gifts to Wii friends with Wiis registered in other countries."

So looks like US Wii owners won't be getting an early version of Mega Man...

Re: Sin and Punishment

Is it still worth buying if I have a GC controller and not a classic controller? I don't want to waste $12 on something that barely works because of the controller...

Re: Donkey Kong Jr. Math

In my opinion, you should only buy this game for the multiplayer, for two reasons:

1. Calculate mode can be played with just one player, but, of course, Player 2 doesn't move, so guess what? You always win! Sure, maybe if you die enough times, P2 will win (I haven't checked), but even if you think it's brain training to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers until they reach a certain number, it's dreadfully boring in this game and you'd prefer doing it in your head.

2. Practice mode can be played without having to boot up the game. Just take out a sheet of paper, write down a math equation, answer it, and check it on a calculator. If you get it right, scream "I WIN 50 POINTS!!!!" at the top of your lungs. That's Practice mode for you. The last step is optional.

The two-player mode is the only thing that gives this game any depth, and even then there are much, much better two-player competitive games you can buy with 500 points.

Do I even need to say it? One star.

Re: Ice Hockey

I like this game. Sometimes, when I'm ahead, I like to pass the puck to a skinny player, and then run him around the field for about a minute. I love the fact that this game is so simple, and it's meatier than some of the VC sports games out there. I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a sports game or just an alternative to a huge, in-depth adventure game.

Re: Super Metroid

I've been playing with the GameCube controller, and as long as you make the A button Jump and the B button Fire, it isn't that bad.

I bought this game exactly 1 minute after it was released, basing my opinion only on Drake's review (I've never played the game before). Now it's probably the most-played VC game I have (second to Kirby's Adventure).

There are a few problems, like the fact that wall-jumping can be a pain with the GC controller, and that some rooms are just plain annoying (like rooms with spikes that bounce you all around), but these are nothing in comparison to the general length and fun factor of the game. I've been playing for about 8 hours so far and I've barely been bored once.

If you're interested in the platformer-shooter genre and have never played it before, buy it. It's one of the best VC games out there. If you're not into exploring, though, you might want to give it a pass, or at least print out a map.

Re: Super Mario Bros.

This game sure brings back memories. It's probably the first thing most people think of when they think of NES games. Unfortunately, it hasn't aged as well as some of Mario's more advanced 2D adventures.

If you really want to try this out and don't own Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for the Game Boy Color or Super Mario All-Stars for the SNES, go ahead and download it, it's only 500 Wii points. Otherwise, go for Super Mario World or wait for Super Mario Bros. 3. They're more advanced and a lot more fun.

Four stars, mainly because it's still a fun platformer game but there are still better games out there.

Re: ActRaiser

The action scenes were fun and a little Castlevania-esque, but the simulation part of it was a little boring, in my opinion. It's too bad I didn't get as much of a kick out of it as others did.

Re: Streets of Rage 2

Biohazard_4 - The A button is used for special attack. 1 and 2 are attack and jump, respectively.

This was the first beat-em-up game I ever tried (except for that old Simpsons arcade game), and now I'm really interested in the genre. It's amazingly fun and very easy to pick up and play. Well worth the 800 points.
